I have no snark today for these two. I just read the article. I didn't realize her mother was a heroin addict when she was growing up. Her father was an alcoholic. She was dealing drugs in high school. She has C-PTSD and has struggled her whole life with the fallout of neglect and abuse. No amount of money, fame, success, things, or even the unconditional love of one's children can heal the kinds of deep developmental trauma she and Will both have.

Look, I think the Red Table Talk is as cheesy and ridiculous as the next guy. But these are two deeply wounded, suffering people. They both carry immense pain and seem to have been trying for many years to figure it out separately and together. And to sincerely want to heal.

I also have a totally dysregulated nervous system from the abuse and neglect I dealt with in childhood. It is something you have to reckon with and put a TON of time into dealing with. It's pretty much a life sentence unless by the grace of God you find some miracle pill or treatment that fixes the part of your brain that got wired wrong in early childhood.

A relationship in which both partners have insecure attachment and PTSD is a recipe for chaos. I admire them for having each others' backs and trying to stay supportive of one another while recognizing that the romantic relationship was hugely triggering and unworkable, and feeling exhausted and ashamed and defeated by it all.

I do not, however, have patience for people pretending to the public that they are still together for SEVEN YEARS, saying "Bad marriage for LIFE!" In an interview with Today on Wednesday, Jada revealed to Hoda Kotb that she and Will have been separated for seven years. Jada confirmed that it wasn't "a divorce on paper," as Kotb worded it, but "by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying."

"I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” she told the television journalist.

The Set It Off actress also said she "made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce," explaining, "We will work through ... whatever."

Will, 55, has since apologized for the Oscars incident and resigned from the Academy, which banned him from attending its events for 10 years.

Reflecting on that night, Jada says she “thought it was a skit” at first, and it took her a second to register what had happened.
