I’m not going to be IGNORED OP.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 9, 2023 6:54 PM |
Emma Thompson is fairly diverse in what she can play. She has magnificent bone structure and a voice I could listen to all day. Her politics are a bit loony but overall, I dig Emma Thompson. Winslet was my second runner up.
Baranksi? In this list? Why not throw in Penny Marshall or Doris Day?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 9, 2023 6:55 PM |
OP, you're a terrible person!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 9, 2023 6:57 PM |
Kate Winslet…no contest.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 9, 2023 6:57 PM |
Julianne Moore, seriously.
I love her.

Julianne Moore, seriously.
I love her.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 9, 2023 7:03 PM |
But do you love her, r5/r7/r8?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 9, 2023 7:05 PM |
Sorry -- that's my computer burping.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 9, 2023 7:07 PM |
Why isn't Pamelyn Ferdin on the list?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 9, 2023 7:19 PM |
Why?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 9, 2023 7:19 PM |
Christine Baranski - everyone knows the other women's merits, but Christine is hilarious and not given as much publicity as she deserves.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 9, 2023 7:28 PM |
Why not?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 9, 2023 7:28 PM |
Laura Linney for no reason other than she did the intro for Downton Abbey on PBS.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 9, 2023 7:47 PM |
Laura Linney...a great actress, and because I'm sick of Meryl dominating every category!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 9, 2023 7:47 PM |
R11 and Pam Anderson??
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 9, 2023 8:00 PM |
Tilda Swinton. I just like her but I like others on the list, too.
I do not like Emma Thompson because when she was 36 she made the vainly foolish decision to play 19 year old Elinor Dashwood in the 1995 version of Sense and Sensibility. Completely unbelievable and ridiculous in that role. Kate Winslet was superb as Marianne. The movie overall was great but Emma T was miscast.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 9, 2023 8:06 PM |
Laura Linney, because I like her best.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 9, 2023 8:07 PM |
And yet you chose not to include not one woman of color. Your exclusion is offensive. It is a problem.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 9, 2023 8:09 PM |
Laura Linney because I love her more than R19 does
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 9, 2023 8:12 PM |
My favorite Black actress is Queen Latifah. I adore Awkafina and Michelle Yeoh.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 9, 2023 8:20 PM |
Lisa Gerritsen
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 9, 2023 8:23 PM |
Lisa Gerritsen is in another category altogether, r23. She belongs with Julia Marlowe, Ellen Terry and Yvonne Craig.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 9, 2023 8:29 PM |
R20 I actually lost count. In fact, I was thinking which Black, Latina, or Asian actress to add and then the slots just got full.
But, I would add have put Alfre Woodward, Penelope Cruz, and/or Michelle Yeoh.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 9, 2023 8:57 PM |
R25, Penelope Cruz is not a woman of color you stupid cunt.

Pick an actress - what is this an audition? You know I’m gonna get it.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 9, 2023 9:07 PM |
Christine Baranski, because she's a second rate Maggie Smith in a second rate Downton Abbey
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 9, 2023 9:09 PM |
Annette Bening, she seems like a nice person; someone you'd probably enjoy being around.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 9, 2023 9:30 PM |
Patricia Clarkson should be on this list. She’s my choice.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 9, 2023 9:59 PM |
Brooke Shields
Why?
None of your damn business!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 9, 2023 10:05 PM |
I hope this thread is redline for its offensive exclusion of any persons of color. Get real. It’s 2023.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 9, 2023 10:10 PM |
R32 Nice to see you again, Viola
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 9, 2023 10:24 PM |
R16, I agree with you about Meryl Streep.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 9, 2023 10:31 PM |
I know it’s already been said but OP’s list is lily white. And then R22 chimes in with Queen Latifah? Of all the talented Black actresses out there you’re choosing Queen Latifah?
Is Domino’s your favorite pizza?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 9, 2023 10:35 PM |
Christine Baranski? What a bunch of fags.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 9, 2023 10:35 PM |
R35 😂 😂. Right.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 9, 2023 10:43 PM |
Gong Li.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 9, 2023 10:46 PM |
Juliette Binoche
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 9, 2023 10:48 PM |
Glenn Close, her performance in "Dangerous Liaisons" is mesmerizing, the fact that she hasn't won an Oscar is a crime against humanity.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 9, 2023 11:42 PM |
R40 I agree!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 9, 2023 11:47 PM |
Glenn. I love the fact that she has played unsympathetic characters without trying to give a sense that they are redeemable. She is a great actress, and her lack of Oscar recognition should be more embarrassing to the Academy than to her. Her loss to Olivia Colman was a travesty. Colman is wonderful, but she had probably the third-largest female role in The Favourite.
I do hope the Academy offer Glenn an honorary award, and I hope she tell them to stick it up their ass.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 9, 2023 11:54 PM |
Rosamund Pike because she's a good fucking actress.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 10, 2023 12:12 AM |
And Glenn never sucked Wenstein’s dick either literally it figuratively.

Pick an actress:
***
Jo Van Fleet
Colleen Moore
Mary Woronov
Elke Sommer
Mercedes McCambridge
Una Merkel
Pamela Austin
Maria Ouspenskaya
Mimi Kennedy
Doro Merande
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 10, 2023 1:12 AM |
Amy Ryan. She's an excellent actress and, even though you didn't offer her on your list, I choose her.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 10, 2023 2:45 AM |
Annette Bening. I like her versatility and lack of vanity. Judging from her performances, she seems to have a high intelligence and a great sense of humor.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 10, 2023 3:00 AM |
I picked Tilda, because she works with the most interesting list of filmmakers.
(Derek Jarman, Luca Guadagnino, Lynne Ramsay, Spike Jonze, Jim Jarmusch, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, George Miller, Bong Joon-ho, Joanna Hogg, Wes Anderson, the Coen brothers, Tony Gilroy)
The only person in the poll who comes even close to matching her in this regard is Blanchett.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 10, 2023 3:18 AM |
Cate Blanchett - to me always looks like someone with bad breath
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 10, 2023 3:27 AM |
Althought you didnt put her on the lost. She is a fine actress. I select Reneee Zellweger because Bridget Jones Diary, the first movie in the sequel, is my favorite movie. RZ was just gold in that film
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 10, 2023 3:38 AM |
Nobody Black
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 10, 2023 3:38 AM |
Julianne Moore.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 10, 2023 4:53 AM |
R45. Jo Van Fleet. Allegedly, she was a very unhappy person but a brilliant actress. She brought out the best in Helen Lawson in I'll Cry Tomorrow and they both deserved Oscars.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 10, 2023 5:21 AM |
Polly Bergen.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 11, 2023 10:17 AM |
Happy to see Jo Van Fleet being recognized here. I thought her performance in East of Eden was heartbreaking.
