Beautiful actors who never became big stars
by Anonymous | reply 164 | February 6, 2024 8:52 PM |
R2 a name might be helpful. He’s gorgeous but who is he?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 4, 2023 3:13 PM |
R3, that's all around creep Armie Hammer.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 4, 2023 3:19 PM |
Define "big". Garrel is a big French star.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 4, 2023 3:32 PM |
French being the operative word, r6.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 4, 2023 3:56 PM |
Wow, R5! That is one incredibly hot man!
Let me contribute again - the gorgeous Michael Trucco still looks like this at 53.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 4, 2023 3:57 PM |
The Letscher brothers were beautiful - Matt was more traditionally handsome while Brian was a tall slab of beef/muscle.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 4, 2023 4:28 PM |
Umm, Matt Battaglia barely made it to "third guy from the left." Not sure he qualifies here.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 4, 2023 4:33 PM |
Jon-Erik Hexum
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 4, 2023 4:33 PM |
R12 I'm not the poster who suggested him but he is beautiful. The post is focusing on the beautiful part, not the big star part.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 4, 2023 4:35 PM |
Yes, but the emphasis on "big star" infers that they had been poised for major stardom in some way and it never happened.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 4, 2023 4:37 PM |
Matt Battaglia played the closeted football player who was fucking Emmett on “Queer as Folk”.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 4, 2023 4:40 PM |
FUCK ME. I never saw THAT before. Nice, R16!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 4, 2023 4:42 PM |
R15 And Battaglia was one of those "showed up in everything" for a few years because someone was trying to Make Him Happen. So he fits perfectly.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 4, 2023 4:43 PM |
Christopher Casenove had some tragedy in his life. His son by Angharad Rees (Demelza on 1970s version of Poldark) graduated from Cambridge university, then drove back to the school to return textbooks. He was killed in a car accident in the way.
Casenove collapsed and died of septicemia at age 66. His ex-wife Angharad died at 68 of pancreatic cancer. They had a surviving son who must be awfully lonely.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 4, 2023 4:43 PM |
Maxwell Caulfield kinda doesn't fit this description because he did have a few big films and a TV career....he's not the kind of actor OP probably had in mind.
Nevertheless, I'm surprised he never became a "big star" in the Clooney vein. He was ridiculously handsome in his younger days.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 4, 2023 4:47 PM |
R21, Perhaps because he married a woman twenty years his senior?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 4, 2023 5:10 PM |
I would think Caulfield fits this to a T.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 4, 2023 5:45 PM |
Peter Barton
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 4, 2023 5:54 PM |
Curly blond Steven Lyon from Campus Man.
You see his butt at around 0:37 in the video below.
His acting was better that M. J Fox & looked better than Nic "I was born to play Superman" Cage (lol).
Plus he was supportive of his gay brother who died of AIDS in the 80s but I guess he didn't want to do the casting couch games?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 4, 2023 6:34 PM |
Ralf played Conan on tv & hit it big in 2000 Gladiator with Crowe but nothing else at that level.
He was 6'5" 275-290 lbs., blond & blue eyes with a body to die for.
His German accent was less annoying than Arnold's & he was even his close gym pal which you would've thought worked in his favor in getting better roles.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 4, 2023 6:40 PM |
Ralf in the early 90s Best Of The Best 2 film =
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 4, 2023 6:41 PM |
This bb stage video shows just how tall, muscular & charismatic he was back in the day =
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 4, 2023 6:43 PM |
Johnathon Scheach
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 4, 2023 6:45 PM |
I can't get the RM bb short with Herman H. to post so I'll go with his funny 80s film scene here -
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 4, 2023 6:57 PM |
Climbing a couple of levels in the celebrity hierarchy, the delectable Eric Bana.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 4, 2023 9:49 PM |
Lee Canalito who was pretty much only famous for one film, "Paradise Alley" in 1978. God, he was beautiful in that. His face, but he also had giant, rounded muscles.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 5, 2023 2:16 AM |
Brad Davis was a star, but his addiction kept him from becoming a really big star. Dying of AIDS didn't help, either.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 5, 2023 2:21 AM |
Hart Bochner = One of the handsomest men who ever lived.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 5, 2023 2:58 AM |
Billy Zane peaked young, then lost his beauty.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 5, 2023 3:01 AM |
Costas Mandylor
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 5, 2023 3:06 AM |
Wayne Maunder. I guess playing Custer as an admirable person was frowned upon even then, but he didn't write the script. His last appearance as an abusive father in 'Porky's' was frighteningly good.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 5, 2023 3:16 AM |
Jeffrey Hunter did have a fairly successful career, but you would think he would have been a bigger star given his good looks.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 5, 2023 3:41 AM |
R29 Gesundheit!
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 5, 2023 3:46 AM |
OP- His looks were at their peak ca. 1976 when he appeared as Charles Hazelmere in The Duchess Of Duke Street.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 5, 2023 4:18 AM |
I think because Brad Davis is in Midnight Express and Querelle he sort of made it - both are movies that will be remembered and rewatched.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 5, 2023 5:06 AM |
Duncan Regehr was beautiful enough to play Errol Flynn in a TV movie back in '85. He's 71 today (Oct. 5).
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 5, 2023 5:16 AM |
I can't imagine crying out in passion, "Oh, Duncan! Oh, Duncan!"
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 5, 2023 5:25 AM |
R50 Querelle is remembered for being the bad kind of camp. It's practically unwatchable the first time you attempt it and nobody is going back for second viewings.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 5, 2023 5:29 AM |
OP- Can I start a sequel thread called "Big actors who never became beautiful stars"?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 5, 2023 5:59 AM |
Edgar Ramirez. I still have hope he'll make it big. I thought his Gianni Versace in American Crime Story would help him into the big time. He's gorgeous, talented, and UNMARRIED.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 5, 2023 9:13 AM |
Loving this thread. A few of these actors are the ones where you kinda felt that someone was really trying to "make" them happen but they just didn't reach that higher level of stardom.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 5, 2023 2:49 PM |
^^^^^^ remember, that picture of George was WAY before digital filters, and he MAY have not been wearing any makeup (or only a little bit to prevent shininess)
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 5, 2023 3:11 PM |
Many would consider George Peppard a major star.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 5, 2023 3:16 PM |
R60, Something has been done to that photograph.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 5, 2023 3:17 PM |
r62 there was still touch-up before Photoshop it was more manual using colored pencils and clay.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 5, 2023 3:48 PM |
The photo at R59 is very touched up. Here is the original and he is still very handsome without the changes just not so ethereal looking.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 5, 2023 3:55 PM |
R63, I recall reading an interview with a touch up artist and he said the most time and effort he ever spent on a job was touching up a photograph of Kate Smith for an album cover.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 5, 2023 4:13 PM |
Casper Van Dien. A male friend of mine swears that he hooked up with him, but then he mistook Samara Weaving for Margot Robbie at an AA meeting.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 5, 2023 4:28 PM |
I loved Alessandro Nivola in Laurel Canyon - I thought he'd have a much bigger career. Still works, and a good actor.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 5, 2023 5:22 PM |
Loren Dean
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 5, 2023 6:27 PM |
Willem Dafoe.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 5, 2023 9:21 PM |
Christopher Cazenove playing John Forsyth's brother on Dynasty was ridiculous. He had to be 30 years younger.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 5, 2023 9:55 PM |
John Gavin and George Peppard starred in two of the most iconic movies ever. Plus, the latter went on to star in one of the most iconic TV shows ever.
Who ARE some of you??
by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 5, 2023 10:01 PM |
Again, who ARE some of you? Willem Dafoe is MAJOR.
Four Academy Award nominations!
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 5, 2023 10:05 PM |
Jim Sturgess. Fizzled out after "21". Working in nothing you've heard of for about the last decade, and he's only 45 now (I mean, when a co-star is Cara Delavigne...).
He should have stayed with "James."
by Anonymous | reply 80 | October 5, 2023 10:12 PM |
Michael Vartan. Though he's best known for "Alias" he never made it big on film. The only films I recall from him are "Never Been Kissed", that stupid J.Lo vs Jane Fonda film and some Aussie horror flick about a crocodile.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | October 5, 2023 10:16 PM |
Not beautiful, but hot...Seann William Scott.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | October 5, 2023 10:22 PM |
R78, Psycho wasn't a hit because of Gavin. He usually played 2nd banana to bigger female stars, he was never a draw on his own
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 5, 2023 10:48 PM |
R83, I think you're conveniently forgetting about Thorougly Modern Millie!
by Anonymous | reply 84 | October 5, 2023 10:57 PM |
Didn't John Gavin become an U. S. ambassador to somewhere?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | October 5, 2023 11:49 PM |
R85, Gavin was Ambassador to Mexico from 81 to 86, not a shabby gig. He was in a lot of movies including that homoerotic scene in the baths in Spartacus with Olivier.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | October 6, 2023 1:13 AM |
Lee Montgomery from the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" film -
by Anonymous | reply 89 | October 6, 2023 8:13 AM |
Matt Lattanzi, better known as Mr. Newton-John.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | October 6, 2023 9:01 AM |
R86 - didn't Meryl shade Morgan at one time saying she was the star that Meryl was not?
by Anonymous | reply 91 | October 6, 2023 11:18 AM |
My baby Random Bouth owns this thread!
by Anonymous | reply 92 | October 6, 2023 11:19 AM |
*Randon*. Stupid autocorrect.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | October 6, 2023 11:19 AM |
R94, On his first “ILL” appearance, the voice over credits listed him as “Johnny Hart”.
Here he is in later years.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | October 6, 2023 1:44 PM |
I thought Jen Lien with the long hair they gave her in season 3 would've set her up for a great Hollywood future
by Anonymous | reply 97 | October 6, 2023 11:20 PM |
Heather L. should've been known for more than just the Freddy films -
by Anonymous | reply 98 | October 6, 2023 11:25 PM |
AMC fans will forever wonder how it spawned so many ingenues yet perhaps their best remains an unknown: Taylor Miller who played Nina Cortland.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | October 6, 2023 11:36 PM |
AMC did prove to be a relatively good springboard for its ingenues in the 1980s, Kim Delaney, Lauren Holly, Kelly Ripa and Paige Turco all went on to have decent primetime/celebrity outside of the show itself.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | October 7, 2023 12:44 AM |
Grant Goodeve. I think he ended his acting career by choice.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | October 7, 2023 1:16 AM |
I'm surprised Playgirl didn't come calling for Goodeve. I would have died to see what was below that expanding treasure trail.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | October 7, 2023 1:18 AM |
His eight was enough to fill our lives with love.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | October 7, 2023 1:20 AM |
Glenn Morrissey was an actor on Emerald Point, N.A.S. It was a nighttime soap opera that lasted one season. He went full on naked for a stage show called "Women Behind Bars", but this is what we saw in Playgirl. You can see the head of his cock in this photo. I'm surprised he didn't go all out. Maybe he thought it would lead to the end of his career.
Sam Jones and Steven Bond might dispute that hypothesis.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | October 7, 2023 1:32 AM |
Kevin Brophy
Dennis Olivieri
by Anonymous | reply 105 | October 8, 2023 6:33 PM |
Susan Strasberg. Had some success but much more was expected given who her parents were.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | October 8, 2023 10:34 PM |
The thread headline says "actors", not "actresses".
by Anonymous | reply 108 | October 8, 2023 10:51 PM |
Uh...R108, welcome to 2023, actor is a gender neutral term...but I will get off your darn lawn.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | October 8, 2023 11:08 PM |
The OP couldn't said "actors only (no actresses)" but didn't so I guess any sex will do.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | October 9, 2023 1:06 AM |
I thought Ken Olandt was one of the most beautiful actors I’d ever seen in the ‘80s.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | October 9, 2023 1:39 AM |
Passions' Christopher Douglas was the spitting image of Star Trek's Capt. Pike & should've been cast in the revival -
by Anonymous | reply 115 | October 9, 2023 3:29 AM |
R104, He is what Jacob Elordi wishes to look like.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | October 9, 2023 8:43 AM |
Sam Page and James Wolk.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | October 9, 2023 7:51 PM |
Gabriel Macht. I was very surprised he never became a big star.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | October 9, 2023 9:18 PM |
R118, Because he quit to move to NE PA and make furniture.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | October 11, 2023 2:10 AM |
True
by Anonymous | reply 128 | October 12, 2023 1:58 AM |
Doesn't Jeff Yagher work in special effects with his brother these days?
by Anonymous | reply 130 | October 12, 2023 8:04 AM |
Yes, he does, R130.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | October 12, 2023 11:25 AM |
Of all the photos, they choose that one of Alex? He sabotaged himself.
I'll say Olivia Wilde. She's more successful as a director though.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | October 14, 2023 3:04 PM |
[R43]: John Russell was hot. Used to see him on TV in the 50’s in “Soldiers of Fortune.” Never seemed to progress from playing intense heavies, mostly in westerns. Also had his own series, “Lawman,” which you pictured. He’s even been cast as as a Native American heavy in “Yellowstone Kelly,” opposite hunky Clint Walker.
The mustache made him even hotter, though his body was always all and lean.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | October 14, 2023 4:27 PM |
^tall and lean
by Anonymous | reply 135 | October 14, 2023 4:36 PM |
I have a cousin who could be John Russell's twin - not a common look.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | October 14, 2023 5:01 PM |
I'd say Morgan Fairchild is a household name. I wish Hart Bochner, Lee Montgomery, etc. were because in the 80's they were so beautiful and talented, and had opportunities to make it big. Especially Hart. Winds of War, The Sun Also Rises etc.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | October 14, 2023 5:34 PM |
Matt Bomer. Sean Farris.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | October 14, 2023 6:12 PM |
Bradford Jackson. Just saw his debut in It Came From Outer Space.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | October 14, 2023 6:21 PM |
Cal Bolder - what a handsome hunk. I made a ton of caps of him in "Jesse James vs. Frankenstein", but I seem to have somehow erased them (damn).
by Anonymous | reply 140 | October 14, 2023 7:39 PM |
Hart Bochner was gorgeous but he was also somewhat bland, sort of like a male Jaclyn Smith. Like his dad, charisma was not a strong suit. He had a ton of chances but the public never went for him. Despite his dreadful appearance in Supergirl, he might have done well in an early version of Smallville.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | October 14, 2023 7:40 PM |
R138, Matt Bomer’s career is far from over.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | October 14, 2023 8:01 PM |
Gigi Perreau was a prolific child star who returned in 2007 after a 30-year hiatus to do mostly voice work. In addition to Lana Turner, she worked with Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Claudette Colbert, Ann Sothern and DL fave Chuck Connors. She even was in a first season episode of 'The Brady Bunch' at age 29.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | October 15, 2023 12:45 AM |
Fun Fact: Gigi Perrreau apparently was Meghan Markle's acting coach early on. I've never seen 'Suits,' so I have no comment on that.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | October 15, 2023 12:49 AM |
Has William McNamara been mentioned?
by Anonymous | reply 146 | October 15, 2023 1:43 AM |
I used to beat off to Johnathon Schaech from The Doom Generation...a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | February 5, 2024 4:02 AM |
Luke Evans.
Stephen Caffrey and Terence Knox ("Tour of Duty").
by Anonymous | reply 149 | February 5, 2024 6:18 AM |
Johnathon Schaech was gorgeous
Remember when he "dated" Ellen?
by Anonymous | reply 150 | February 5, 2024 6:25 AM |
R121 Drew Fuller looks like a FAG.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | February 5, 2024 7:25 AM |
Anthony Hamilton - Not the best actor but jeez he was gorgeous. I realize dying young put a crimp in his career.
Steve Reeves - He did a lot of those sword and sandals films, but his good looks should've taken him further, despite his limited acting skills.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | February 5, 2024 8:21 AM |
Eric Bana refused to do comedy. He only has himself to blame.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | February 5, 2024 9:28 AM |
[quote] Anthony Hamilton - Not the best actor but jeez he was gorgeous. I realize dying young put a crimp in his career.
I don’t know the actor. Otherwise there’s the R&B singer. And Lewis Hamilton’s dad.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | February 5, 2024 9:29 AM |
He meant Antony.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | February 5, 2024 2:28 PM |
r154, Cary Elwes did comedy, and I think that ruined his career. But he's had a resurgence of sorts in the past 5 years.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | February 5, 2024 2:42 PM |
Goldenboy James Franciscus had leading man good looks and was popular for a time on television, but he never really broke out the way a Steve McQueen or Robert Redford did.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | February 5, 2024 4:01 PM |
R157 but Eric Bana is a good comic, something that sets him apart from most dramatic actors. As a dramatic actor, he’s one of many. He has avoided comedy for the most part in his American career for fear of being pigeon holed thanks for to his early career mincing around with a mullet on Australian TV.
Cary Elwes was never that guy and is not the right comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | February 5, 2024 4:26 PM |
R157, what ruined Elwes career is that he hit the wall harder than any actor in recent memory.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | February 5, 2024 4:27 PM |
R150, no I don't at all. But I would imagine it was a beard situation. Is he gay?
by Anonymous | reply 163 | February 5, 2024 10:44 PM |
Jonathon Schaech's wife (or girlfriend) seems like a raging assshole. Bestselling author of "Get What You Want".
by Anonymous | reply 164 | February 6, 2024 8:52 PM |
