Mary Kay Letourneau meets All About Eve
Sounds like a sweeps month Lifetime Movie Network flick.

I love Todd Haynes' films. This looks really bizarre and intriguing. I can't wait.

This looks very interesting. Is the young man supposed to be mentally challenged?

No, why?

Seems meh. And the sad thing is, I love love love Julianne Moore.

So a riff on the story of Mary Kay Letourneau and her boy lover Vili Fualaau?

Julianne sounds funny imitating Natalie's voice.

I thought I recognized the music - they have lifted Michel Legrand's music from The Go-Between.

Why does Julianne want to go blonde when she has such beautiful red hair?

OH FUCK YES.

Well, I watched it, and it made me so uncomfortable I couldn't get through the whole thing. I had to look up the ending on Wikipedia. Is that what Haynes was trying to do?
Between the music and the odd interactions with people, it really did -- it made my skin crawl.
Did anyone else have that reaction?

Very good movie, darkly funny and uncomfortable. One of the only times I’ve been able to stand Natalie Portman - like his hero Douglas Sirk was able to perfectly use Lana Turner’s limitations, Haynes does the same for Portman here.

I like Portman. She is really good with the right director.

I saw it about a month ago at a festival and posted a thread. Liked it then, watched it again today, liked it better the second time. I think I could relax and appreciate more things.

The charcoal smell crying scene and next up the false flattery of her daughter which was an open insult about the daughters chubby arms, which everyone registered, were heavy handed narration to the audience that this character is a controlling cunt evil bitch and yes it did indeed make my skin crawl from then on.

R17 you needed that to let you know? Not the fact she started raping her now husband at 13 and every time he tries to speak about it she shuts it down and blames him?
