How much are you willing to pay for the new Covid shots?

People looking to get their new COVID-19 vaccine are feeling sore over hefty unexpected charges for the federally-recommended shot.

Customers nationwide at pharmacies including Walgreens and CVS who landed appointments for the jab this week were shocked to learn they would feel the additional pinch of three-figure fees for their boosters.

“Nightmare is the first word that comes to mind,” Acton, Massachusetts, resident Glen Cote told WBZ-TV after he learned his new booster would run him $190.99.

It’s a complaint echoed by dozens of social media users after pharmacies dinged patients anywhere from between $125 to $200 for the latest boosters.

Some pharmacists even reached out to customers to warn them about the eye-popping fees and recommend they reschedule their appointments.

The unexpected out-of-pocket costs are in part the result of pharmacies fighting over market share for the new vaccine, The Albany Times Union reported.

Chains like CVS and Walgreens hurriedly placed orders for the latest jabs, which were approved by the Food and Drug Administration last week, before some insurance plans updated their systems for the new shots’ billing codes.

“Some payers are still updating their systems and may not yet be set up to cover the updated COVID-19 vaccines,” a CVS spokesperson told WBZ.

COVID vaccines were free for everyone through the federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency declaration, which ended earlier this year. Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid insurance plans must cover the vaccination costs with no co-pays for the patients, according to KFF.

The CDC last week recommended for anyone ages six months or older to receive a booster this fall.

Covid cases have been rising across the country as cooler weather sets in.

The state Health Department shows a slow-but-steady increase in the number of COVID cases in the five boroughs in the past few months, with about 650 hospitalized patients as of Friday, including 63 in intensive care. That’s up from a low of 150 people hospitalized at the end of June.

Okay, settle down, and set down your NY Post. That was a poorly written article which made it sound like most people will have to pay big bucks for the jab…The pharmacies haven’t caught up yet, and in a few weeks I’m betting that there will be a way for most people to get the vaccine covered by insurance or Medicare…

I got my booster for free yesterday.

Went to CVS. No one asked for money or mentioned money.

by Anonymousreply 2September 23, 2023 11:50 PM

Zero.

by Anonymousreply 3September 23, 2023 11:51 PM

I am scheduled for the new one tomorrow, no cost. It is Pfizer, not Moderna, and I do not really too happy about that. All of my boosters have been Moderna. I trust it. Oh, well. Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 4September 24, 2023 12:15 AM

It was free at Walgreens on Monday.

by Anonymousreply 5September 24, 2023 12:15 AM

Paid $0 at Walgreens in CA on Friday.

by Anonymousreply 6September 24, 2023 12:19 AM

I'd pay 50

by Anonymousreply 7September 24, 2023 12:20 AM

I paid nothing at CVS in TX yesterday. They didn't even ask for my insurance card.

by Anonymousreply 8September 24, 2023 12:21 AM

Keep trolling, OP.

by Anonymousreply 9September 24, 2023 12:31 AM

Same as R8 yesterday at Walgreens.

by Anonymousreply 10September 24, 2023 12:34 AM

Well obviously, the answer is not to get a vaccine, right OP?

Idiot.

by Anonymousreply 11September 24, 2023 12:38 AM

Actually I had been wondering why the covid vaccine wasn't even mentioned to me when I got my flu shot two days ago and thought this might be related. But don't let that stop you from sputtering on your keyboard r9.

Carry on,

by Anonymousreply 12September 24, 2023 12:47 AM

Zero charge. The updated Moderna covid vaccine was completely free at Walgreens in Arizona earlier this week. The NY Post is an unreliable, highly biased news outlet.

by Anonymousreply 13September 24, 2023 1:17 AM

[quote]The NY Post is an unreliable, highly biased news outlet.

OP is very aware of that, r13.

by Anonymousreply 14September 24, 2023 1:29 AM

r14 I'm sure he is. But I think it's worthwhile to mention it for our under-informed DL members.

by Anonymousreply 15September 24, 2023 1:42 AM

$0 at Walgreens in NJ today. Got the Covid and flu shots at 10:30AM. Around 6PM I started with chills and feeling feverish too. It's bearable but hoping that's the only cost.

by Anonymousreply 16September 24, 2023 1:51 AM

My brother and I got our new Moderna Covid boosters and flu shots this afternoon for free.

by Anonymousreply 17October 4, 2023 10:48 PM

I got my booster free at Publix and did my grocery shopping, as well.

by Anonymousreply 18October 4, 2023 10:56 PM

I took the shot and booster...had an awful reaction to the booster. Im done with vaccines in my older age. I take valtrex daily for yrs and never get any kind of virus anymore.

I have to take an autoimmune suppressor and was getting cold sores on my lip weekly...No more since the valtrex, no colds, no flue, nothing for decades now

by Anonymousreply 19October 4, 2023 11:03 PM

Getting mine tomorrow

by Anonymousreply 20October 4, 2023 11:05 PM

I contacted Rite Aid and CVS in L.A. they said $200 and $180. Ralph’s didn’t have it in yet and didn’t know the price. I wouldn’t trust a Ralph’s pharmacist to give me a needle.

I just called Walgreens in L.A. on highland. And it’s $155. That’s the cost without insurance. That’s bullshit. After paying creeps to get the vax.....

It should be free. Nobody should be making a profit from this. People won’t get the booster if they have to pay for it.

by Anonymousreply 21October 4, 2023 11:14 PM

I got my booster and flu shoots at CVS yesterday. I handed them my DL and insurance card, but was told that the insurance card wasn't needed. No charge that I'm aware of.

by Anonymousreply 22October 4, 2023 11:15 PM

Pipe down, Toots.

Our insurance paid in full. In addition, people in the waiting are without insurance were covered by the Bridge Access program.

You pipe down- the pharmacies charge.

by Anonymousreply 24October 4, 2023 11:24 PM

I stand corrected, r23. You are right I am wrong! I just made my appt for vax and flu shot. I almost paid $200 at Tite Aid. I did call Walgreens this afternoon, but not one that is included in the Bridge program for free vax. Thank you, r23!

by Anonymousreply 25October 4, 2023 11:40 PM

Go to vaccines dot gov to enter your ZIP code and find a pharmacy near you that participates in Bridge Access and will bill the government, not you for the cost of the shot. Mine was $155. I paid nothing.

by Anonymousreply 26October 5, 2023 12:21 AM

Thank you R23. I have an appointment a week from Friday at a Walgreens store and they are in the Bridge program.

by Anonymousreply 27October 5, 2023 12:41 AM

I just got flu and covid shots yesterday, feel like SHIT. but I didn't pay a cent. who are these dumb clucks who are paying money?

by Anonymousreply 28October 6, 2023 12:51 PM

I was planning on getting the Pfizer booster but I'm not willing to pay $200 for it.

by Anonymousreply 29October 6, 2023 1:33 PM

i got moderna for free

by Anonymousreply 30October 6, 2023 2:42 PM

Just got it and insurance paid for it.

by Anonymousreply 31October 6, 2023 2:58 PM

Shit, my cigs and beer cost that, I aint getting no vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 32October 6, 2023 3:08 PM

I didn’t even have my insurance asked. What kind of community do you live in?

by Anonymousreply 33October 7, 2023 11:12 AM

I’ll pay anything, anything at all! All I want is my COVID shot!

by Anonymousreply 34October 7, 2023 11:22 AM

My insurance covered it.

by Anonymousreply 35October 7, 2023 1:51 PM

I just got mine at my HMO (got the flu shot at the same time.) They had a questionnaire about how many previous COVID vaccinations you'd had. Fortunately they gave me a printout of my vaccination record--I cannot believe this was the SEVENTH COVID vaccine I've received.

by Anonymousreply 36October 21, 2023 11:52 PM

I have a basic HMO. Got the booster and flu shot for free 🤷🏻‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 37October 22, 2023 12:22 AM

Seven? I’m on five

by Anonymousreply 38October 22, 2023 1:13 AM

Can I have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 39October 22, 2023 1:19 AM
