Gen. Mark Milley recounts an event at the beginning of his term as chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff. It must have made for a terrible eye opening experience for the general. Trump’s heartless take down and comments about a wounded veteran. A man served his country and paid a heavy price. Trump the draft dodger can only complain.
When you thought the heartless guy we called President couldn’t go any lower, this story comes out.

[quote] Soon after, Trump said to Milley, within earshot of several witnesses, “Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded.” The then-president reportedly told the general that he didn’t want Avila to appear in public again.
Trump was not an outlier in the GOP--we were prevented from seeing flag draped coffins coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan for years by the Bush crowd. Barbara Bush even said of the war in Iraq: 'Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? It's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?'
That's mainstream Republican opinion, they're warmongers but don't want to deal with the fallout.

R7- Death by a thousand cuts? All I know is the past eight years has felt like emotional and mental torture, with no end in sight. I desperately need to never see his face, hear his voice, or have to read anything about him ever again. I need it to stop.

He's been badmouthing soldiers for decades.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 23, 2023 2:49 AM |
I don’t want Trump to die. I want him to live to be 110. But I want him to have a massive stroke. Like, yesterday. I want him to know what it’s like when you’re not sure if you’ll be alive tomorrow, or if you can get yourself toileted in time. I want him to be dressed by home health aides and fed by Don Jr.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 23, 2023 3:51 AM |
R10 I'd prefer him to have his stroke in a federal penitentiary.
If he were to die tomorrow that would really put this country into a spiral. State funeral for the worst President of the US. His cult would go ape shit. It would be like the Ayatollah Khomeini funeral. I think the cult would riot, Q would tell them it was Biden and the CIA who poisoned him or some shit. January 6th would look like a day at Disneyland compared to what might happen if and when he croaks it.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 23, 2023 4:19 AM |
You're wrong R11. Nobody likes Trump, even his modest ardent fans know he's a fraud. The cult would be as hollow and empty as a cult of Ceaucescu.

I'm sorry but the cult is strong whether we like it or not. He has his rallies in Bumfuck, Idaho and they flock to him like sheep. Trump Merch is a multimillion dollar cottage industry and the gaudier the product the more they love it.

Because Trump is fat, crude, rude, shallow, racist, vindictive, thin-skinned, tacky and immoral- he has the the uncanny ability to convince the Deplorables that he's one of them.

Never let them forget.

If we are “finished” r29, then why did Milley share the story? Good leadership starts from the top down, and clearly Milley is a great leader — so as fucked up as the military can be, I also think they are doing their best to teach our people what’s right and wrong.
If we were really finished, no one would give a fuck about this story.

Yes r25, he said it to his chief of staff at the time, John Kelly, former Marine general and whose son had been killed in combat. IIRC, he said it at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 23, 2023 5:20 PM |
Yeah, suggesting Milley's execution when he's likely on the witness list for both the J6 DC and Florida cases is not the smartest move after Trump signed an affidavit swearing not to try to intimidate or tamper with witnesses. Conceivably, Jack Smith could file a motion to jail him for violation.

One of Trump’s comments from the Forbes story posted by R28:
“Trump blasted Stern in an early morning post on his social media platform Truth Social, calling Stern a “broken weirdo, unattractive both inside and out, trying like hell to be relevant!”
Never ceases to amaze me that Trump sees himself as an arbiter of anyone’s attractiveness.

He wouldn't go to Arlington because of the rain/hairdon't and what r34 said.
Also, his whole fucking life. But no, build the wall, build the wall, build the wall, and have Mexico pay for it!

All the Deplorables care about is gasoline, because they live in their cars and trucks (sometimes literally). Gas represents FREEDOM! Which in their tiny minds gets mixed up with anarchy. Trump represents chaos, which can lead to a New World Order (and having their criminal records expunged?).
So many U.S. Americans have muddied-up their lives with crimes and misdemeanors, bad employment records, child support evasion, evictions, bad credit, #metoo situations which may come back to haunt them. They want to shed their pasts but can't. They need a leader like themselves who will expunge their records. Sounds ridiculous, but they're desperate.

I’m not sticking up for Trump for saying what he said at the event. Voicing those thoughts was incredibly inappropriate and disrespectful to the injured soldier and his colleagues there supporting him.
But when I first heard this story I thought, “Oh, I hope the guy was at least a pretty good singer” and out of curiosity I watched a video and now I can understand someone finding it objectionable. The poor guy is not in good shape and in his intro his singing is cited as an example of what he is doing in music therapy. This isn’t a guy who had a great voice and used to song in a band and now still enjoys it.
I don’t know what the intent was or the thoughts behind it or the feelings of the soldier or his family. And I don’t know what military traditions or practices this might be reflective of. But, to me, it seemed exploitative and maudlin and even disrespectful. The guy is a soldier who had his body and life torn apart, not a kid with Down Syndrome who learned how to play the flute or something. Of course, I would never SAY that because I don’t understand the circumstances and I’m not the fucking president at a formal event. Also, knowing how badly injured he guy is and how he sings confirms that there is absolutely no way Trump didn’t say it. It’s so completely on brand.
But before you all pile on me for being a Trump supporter or a Russian troll, I suggest you watch one of the YouTube videos.

This guy all but died in service of this country and we feel uncomfortable for the three minutes he tries to sing, just imagine how uncomfortable his family is every single day to see him struggle.
The purpose of this performance is to offer respect to a serviceman, not be entertained by a rollicking beat and groovy tune.
