Richard E. Grant memoir
Just read his memoir - partially his career and then also covered his wife's cancer and death.
Interesting, though he seems like a bit of a manchild and was dropping names left, right, and center.
I always thought he was gay or bi, or that he'd made it on the casting couch, so it was a surprise to learn he was straight AND monogamous!

Do you think he was being honest?

R1 I do, I think he's a bit flighty but I don't think he's particularly deceitful. He really loved his wife, perhaps in a somewhat motherly/codependent way.

Does he talk about his love of Barbra?

Yes, he describes meeting her on a few occasions in the book.

Oh The NYT didn't like his take on her
The woman in the book whom I could easily do without is … Barbra Streisand. Barbra Streisand comes off well: shy, thoughtful, wildly gifted and a genuine mensch. To be clear, I make no complaints about her, and neither Grant nor I criticize anything she does in this book. It is not her fault that Richard E. Grant has adored her since he wrote her a fan letter when he was 14. Not her fault that he commissioned a “two-foot-tall sculpture of Streisand’s face” for his garden. Not her fault that there are far too many pages about his adoration, his ruses to meet her and those meetings, in which — let me say again — she was the soul of grace.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

The best performance he ever gave was in his breakout role as Withnail. All of his other performances will always be secondary to that.

He is one of those people who is sometimes a bit irritating but because he generally comes across as an all round nice, kind person it is hard to dislike him.

He's aged well and was very sexy when younger. I had no idea he was straight, though. Huh!

I have a friend who made a movie with him - his verdict? Very camp in a very English way, very very charming and great company on an isolated set and not the slightest bit gay.

He was born and reared in southern African countries, but does seem very traditionally British. Maybe that's the reason. (Child of colonial administrator, grew up away from the evolving motherland. ) I follow him on Instagram. He is always, always grinning, which seems a little suspect to me, but I have no doubt he's a very nice man.
