$1MM Chelsea Condo: “It’s like IKEA decorated a jail cell.”

I think it's very attractive, functional and reflects the desirability of the location. I wouldn't pay that money if I had it but I could be happy living there.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 21, 2023 9:07 PM |
I like it a lot. I hate vast bedrooms, I'm just there to sleep, and the living and kitchen spaces are attractive. It's also a decent block.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 22, 2023 3:28 AM |
I really like it. NYCers, what's wrong with it? What am I missing? Why is it so cheap?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 22, 2023 3:32 AM |
You get windows on three THREE sides. Plus, there’s a small window in the shitter. A naturally ventilated bathroom is almost priceless but we’ll settle. Add $238,000.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 22, 2023 3:46 AM |
I don’t hate it.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 22, 2023 8:08 AM |
Where’s the rest of it?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 22, 2023 8:19 AM |
I actually love it.
Makes me miss NYC.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 22, 2023 8:32 AM |
Seems fine to me.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 22, 2023 8:49 AM |
Maintenance charges are high for the size.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 22, 2023 10:12 AM |
Looks like an overpriced shithole. I'm sorry, but when real estate turns into this, for that amount of money— you know your country is going down the tubes.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 22, 2023 10:48 AM |
Where will Rosario sleep?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 22, 2023 12:37 PM |
I like it but am more entertained by all the extra words used to distract from the reality that it is a tiny space.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 22, 2023 1:59 PM |
You can certainly tell the New Yorkers. $1,000,000 for a closet, plus hefty monthly maintenance, and they're wondering why it's so cheap?!?
I've been to NYC and liked it, but am baffled as to why anybody chooses to live there when it's so obscenely expensive. The rest of the world isn't just slums and vast expanses of farmland - you can live in a city if that's your jam without needing roommates or Murphy beds.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 22, 2023 3:17 PM |
R9, I was wondering what the catch was.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 22, 2023 3:17 PM |
There's also a convenient Burglar's Entrance Fire Escape outside the bathroom window.
Nice view.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 22, 2023 3:37 PM |
In Chelsea at least—where I live—the current rough guide for a coop is ~$2 of maintenance per square foot. We pay $2100 /month on a 1, O90 sq ft. 2 bd+1b with full city views on three sides. 50% of that is tax deductible (the portion attributable to property taxes and the building mortgage). The apt. mortgage was paid off long ago. That’s how people are able to stay in the big city.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 22, 2023 3:54 PM |
It's 717 sf. For those of you saying it's tiny, how much freaking space do you need? That is more than enough for one person and fine for a couple.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 22, 2023 4:19 PM |
If listed as 717, you can be sure it is closer to 550-600.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 22, 2023 4:24 PM |
Let’s just say that’s on the small side for a 2 bedroom.😏
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 22, 2023 4:25 PM |
The main bedroom can accommodate a king size bed as long as your feet don’t need to touch the floor.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 22, 2023 5:31 PM |
Good, I don't have feet.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 22, 2023 5:39 PM |
Is it on the first floor? That’s a deal breaker for me.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 22, 2023 5:44 PM |
Look out the window
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 22, 2023 5:46 PM |
Real estate agents are so full of shit.

To think you could live a metro a fraction of the size and become a part of the local jet set with a house that much. You too can be the king of Effingham.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 22, 2023 10:59 PM |
No one is saying the apartment is too small for one person.
They are saying it is too small for ONE MILLION DOLLARS plus monthly fees
God New Yorkers are dense.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 22, 2023 11:40 PM |
$1 million will get you a grande belle époque or art deco apartment with sea views in Oran or Casablanca. But then.... You're in Oran or Casablanca.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 22, 2023 11:47 PM |
Honestly it is under market rate for a renovated two bedroom in Chelsea r26.
Cheaper because it is on the first floor, no view, and the small second bedroom.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 22, 2023 11:53 PM |
New York(and the greater metro) isn't just Chelsea r13. Most people who live around here could never afford to buy property in Chelsea which is a particularly expensive neighborhood.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 22, 2023 11:55 PM |
It's truly hideous.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 23, 2023 12:06 AM |
[quote] Why is it so cheap?
That it's on the ground floor factored into the price, I'm sure.
The Murphy bed seemed unnecessary. It's a bedroom, just have a regular bed.
[quote] It's 717 sf.
I lived in a 1-BR (large bedroom) that was 625 sf. Galley kitchen, OK-sized living / dining. That's 100 sf larger than what I had. So, sounds OK.

First floor negative isn’t just for safety/burglary reasons. 1st floor is where your mice, rats and roaches enter the building. It’s where the noise is…anyone walking by talking, you hear their phone conversation. You hear the police/ambulance full blast. People look in your windows.

Things can hide under a bed. You don’t want that on first floor, trust me. The fewer hiding places you have, the better

True that!

What do you think you're getting in NYC for a measly million dollars?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 23, 2023 2:11 AM |
If it’s the lowest floor unit, you’re allowed to tap or clog dance during business hours.
Red mushroom wig with green sweater included. Bring your own beads.

Looks great!

One million…and no in unit washer and dryer?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 24, 2023 6:18 PM |
Hey there are $4mm apts. w/out washer & dryer in unit. Older builders have issues. Some apt. lines just don’t work for “wet over wet”. Some owners don’t care.
I’ve been going to the basement laundry room in my “fancy” building once a week for 30 years…no bother at all. Honest.

55 years and things don’t changed that much in Manhattan—
