I’m shaking and crying. I can’t wait to watch this movie starring one of the greatest actors of his time, our dear Paul. Beauty and talent. He has it all.
That does look good!

The trailer made me teary eyed lol
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 21, 2023 1:19 PM |
Now that is a quality trailer. Still wishing Bailey got Mescal's role and I'm not the biggest Jamie Bell fan either, but I'm gonna watch this one for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 21, 2023 1:20 PM |
Bailey was never up for the part. You’re wishing for something that was never the case. Move on.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 21, 2023 1:22 PM |
R4 mic drop.
Paul Mescal didn’t have to audition for the part. It was offered to him because of his beautiful work in Normal People. Haigh wanted to work with him. That poster is wishing for something that was never even in consideration
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 21, 2023 1:24 PM |
He’s not my dear Paul.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 21, 2023 1:28 PM |
Not to mention, Bailey isn’t a better actor than Paul Mescal.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 21, 2023 1:35 PM |
This looks like it will be a good movie, especially to bring a date to. I plan on watching it this December.

PaulMescallover uses chloroform on people that PaulMescallover doesn’t like and stealth to sneak into my house while I’m asleep to experiment on me. PaulMescallover also planted cameras to watch my every move and hire people to follow and keep a close watch on me wherever I go. PaulMescallover also plants devices in my ear and under the skin and some may even be directly on my brain. PaulMescallover shot it into my skull from a distance to keep it covert. They are small enough to where you only hear a pop and feel a small sting while you’re asleep. PaulMescallover communicates to me through the devices PaulMescallover planted in me and because no one really understands it or are afraid of it, PaulMescallover diagnosed this targeted individual with schizophrenia and gives false checkups and xrays to hide it

I'm not necessarily a good judge of who's the better actor, but I do know who I'd rather look at and listen to for two hours, and it ain't OP's Paul Mescal.

R10 well, directors like Haigh are a good judge and cast Mescal without an audition. Bailey is cast in roles for streaming movies and streaming series. Mescal is cast in indie films that go to theaters. One is about talent and playing interesting roles. The other is about chasing fame.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 21, 2023 1:59 PM |
Scott really is one of the greatest actors out there. But I don't think this film will make him a household name as it should be. I don't give a shit about Paul Whatshisname.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 21, 2023 2:20 PM |
Paul Mescal has been building quite the resume for himself. His acting career has been very impressive so far.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 21, 2023 2:21 PM |
Paul is rather unfortunate looking.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 21, 2023 2:23 PM |
R14 it’s a small indie flick. They aren’t meant to make household names. As most critics have said, it’s a film for film lovers but not the average film watcher. This isn’t a mainstream film and your average movie watcher won’t appreciate a film like this, and won’t watch it to begin with.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 21, 2023 2:24 PM |
R16 disagree. I think he’s handsome.

I have to admit, the Paul Mescal troll notwithstanding, that trailer looks really good.
I really like Andrew Scott, as well. They're both superb actors.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 24, 2023 1:54 AM |
Also, I like the version of Always on My Mind that's playing in the background. It's different from the standard Pet Shop Boys version.

R28 buddy, it’s Pet Shop Boys. They just updated the sound quality but it’s literally their version. Why are you always so embarrassing?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 24, 2023 2:31 AM |
[quote][R28] it’s literally the Pet Shop Boys
Obviously, it's the Pet Shop Boys -which is why I said, it's the Pet Shop Boys,
[quote][R28] buddy, it’s Pet Shop Boys. They just updated the sound quality but it’s literally their version. Why are you always so embarrassing
And no, it's not the standard version or the remastered version. It's been remixed with the background behind "Maybe I didn't treat you / Quite as good as I should" simplified. The tempo has also been slowed to give it a more more lyrical quality. It doesn't revert to the standard version until "Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died."
Of course, I know it's not a "new" version, simply a remix of the original.
I love that song and have listened to it uncountable numbers of times, so slight changes stand out.

I’m going to see this at the nyff early november. I’m a plus one - had no clue about the content. I thought it was some arty crap about pygmies or something. I wonder if there’s frontal?

Looking forward to seeing it.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 24, 2023 3:36 AM |
R34 I’m almost certain no one going to NYFF is going for possible nudity. It’s a place for critics, actors, filmmakers and movie fanatics.
Also how are you going in November when it’s the last week of September into the first week of October? And NYFF doesn’t do plus ones.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 24, 2023 3:46 AM |
R34 I think you should have at least looked up the NYFF dates before lying. And they don’t do plus ones. You have to buy the tickets and depending on how many tickets you buy (there are different tiers) you have to then try to get in to whatever movie you wanna see. It’s hard for movies a lot of people wanna see. Many people end up not getting to see it because it “sells out” fast.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 24, 2023 3:50 AM |
Just saw it at the nyff. What do you want to know? I liked it but wasn’t moved. . Paul dude is cute - you see his ass. The lead isn’t cute. There’s a sex scene.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 2, 2023 12:41 AM |
It was screened tonight at NYFF61.
Here's a tweet by Mark Harris (husband of Tony Kushner):
[quote] Just saw Andrew Haigh's All of Us Strangers and I think it's his best film. I did not cry because I am a monster but boy, #NYFF61 was awash. I admired and was very moved by this meditation on gay loneliness and connection, and how processing early loss is a lifetime's work.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 2, 2023 12:54 AM |
It was screened at 6pm tonight. Yes. But that poster surely wasn’t there.
What was the Q&A about?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 2, 2023 1:04 AM |
Tell you about the q&a? They talked about the difference of book to film. Why wouldn’t i’ve gone to the film? Followed it up with poor things - emma stone & mark ruffalo were great. I’ll ruin the strangers film for you: parents & boyfriend are dead. Parents fade away , ghost boyfriend stays.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 2, 2023 3:22 AM |
Poor things is frankeinstein with emma. For awhile she’s a whore - i thought of the b film frankenhooker. Emma shows loads of tit. Some bush. Penis or two. It was too long & often funny
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 2, 2023 3:32 AM |
I thought his frankie goes to hollywood /power of love was a atrange choice… since he had erasure mother ghost has an issue with her son’s sexuality but all is made ok by singing pet shop boys. The dead boyfriend drinks himself to death. There’s a lot of time on a train between his place & his parents. Dead boyfriend comes for a trip. They go clubbing. Ghost dad jokes about his sports ability.

R45 because you’re not posting from NY. You’re lying. You also claimed you were someone’s plus one in November and after I personally linked the actual NYFF dates to you it’s suddenly you saw it on a night it was based on standby. People who spent the $150+ for NYFF had to stand on line and wait to get a seat. There were people on line for 12+ hours.

OMG! I'm shaking and crying!!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | October 9, 2023 2:03 AM |
Some Letterboxd.com commentators were at London Film Festival 2023 and saw AOUS. Here are some of their comments. (I didn't include any negative comments, which were fairly few anyway.)
[quote] Andrew Scott ruining my life, one scene at a time.
[quote] Picking a favourite seems cruel when all four actors are so great, but I think Andrew Scott and Claire Foy are really special. Seeing compassion rendered so plainly but so strongly will always make me cry.
[quote] Maybe one of the most startling and honest depictions of queer loneliness I have ever seen? I cried throughout the entire film. Paul mescal stars in the best film of the year two years in a row.
[quote] Rips your heart out, deep fries it and then feeds it back to you, and somehow expects you to continue your day as a normal human. Every film should feature Paul and Andrew as a couple, we need more of that in this life.
[quote] I was crying so hard the guy next to me asked if I was ok. Then I kept crying outside the screen and all the film bros saw me. Then I stood outside and had a cigarette and cried. Kill me.
[quote] In a perfect world Andrew Scott sweeps awards season. A crowning performance.
[quote] Paul Mescal’s big ass thighs 🥵
[quote] Haunting. Beautiful. Emotionally shattering. Masterpiece. Masterpiece. Masterpiece.
[quote] We should talk about (the scene featuring) the absolutely psychopath behaviour of putting the milk in before the tea. What the fuck was that seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | October 9, 2023 2:07 AM |
R74 aren’t you the poster who shits on Mescal?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 9, 2023 9:17 AM |
Why is the person who likes to attack our dear Paul’s looks and talent all over this thread? You say Aftersun sucked and his performance was overrated (most would disagree) so why do you care about this one? This is another tiny, quiet indie flick. Almost everyone says if you liked Aftersun you will like this and if you didn’t like that one you won’t appreciate this.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | October 9, 2023 1:29 PM |
[quote]Why is the person who likes to attack our dear Paul’s looks and talent all over this thread?
Probably because he hates the way you refer to him as "our dear Paul."
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 9, 2023 9:01 PM |
Andrew Scott is 19 years older than Paul but still looks much hotter. Hopefully he gave dear Paul advice on using some moisturiser.

by Anonymous | reply 91 | October 27, 2023 5:48 AM |
I saw it yesterday (my friend is a critic and has all the screeners). Absolutely incredible. One of the comments upthread it’s almost cruel to try and pick who is the best in show because the four main actors are all so good, BUT, for me, Andrew Scott and Claire Foy deliver career/defining performances that I am still gutted and haunted by a day later. Andrew Scott should win for this.
