The new Covid Shot

Do you plan on getting it? Why or why not?

If you're a senior, have you been able to find someplace that has the vaccine in-house?

If you've had the new vaccine, did you have any side effects? Did you get the flu shot at the same time?

by Anonymousreply 279October 30, 2023 3:21 AM

Yes. Why not? Better safe than sorry. I get the flu vaccine every year, tetanus every decade, have had both shingles, the RSV, and pneumonia and booster. Doesn’t mean I won’t get sick, but may have better chance of not and if I do, case may not be as bad without. Don’t see a downside

by Anonymousreply 1September 20, 2023 8:01 PM

Of course I'll get it, I'm neither a MAGAt nor a moron.

By the way, the Biden administration, anticipating a winter Covid surge, announced today it will resume offering Americans free testing kits through the mail.

by Anonymousreply 2September 20, 2023 8:05 PM

Covid tests link.

And I'll be getting the shot as soon as the pharmacy I go to gets it in stock.

Yes!!!

by Anonymousreply 4September 20, 2023 8:20 PM

Tomorrow at CVS

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2023 8:25 PM

Yes. I asked my doctor about it and he said he would be getting it once it was available. He's about my age, and I trust him with my life.

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2023 8:36 PM

It’s available r6

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2023 8:38 PM

Just got back from Walgreens and I got all three, COVID, flu and RSV.

by Anonymousreply 8September 20, 2023 8:41 PM

Thanks, R7. When I saw him last, it wasn't available yet. I'll ask him for it the next time I see him.

by Anonymousreply 9September 20, 2023 8:42 PM

I just got the updated Moderna yesterday at Walgreens in Arizona. It's very, very foolish to not get it.

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2023 8:47 PM

I just got the real thing from a Rosh Hashanah dinner (I’m gentile) so no need for a booster.

by Anonymousreply 11September 20, 2023 8:50 PM

I last year I didn't get the Bivalent shot and I got desperately sick with COVID. So this year I got the Bivalent shot, and the flu shot, and I will get RSV in the next couple of Days. Got my shots at Costco. Now what I intend to do is wait until early March to get the new Covid booster. So I will be all caught up. Next year in the Fall before the next surge I will get any new booster they offer. I had it really bad. They gave me Paxlovid. Then I got a secondary infection so I had Prednisone and antibiotics and I took prescription strength cough medicine. I was sick for a fucking month. Then it took two more months to get over the fatigue. I hope my strategy works.

by Anonymousreply 12September 20, 2023 8:58 PM

Not getting it ever.

by Anonymousreply 13September 20, 2023 9:37 PM

Tomnorrow at CVS also. It's easily available in MA.

by Anonymousreply 14September 20, 2023 11:02 PM

I will get it. I’m 58. I have gotten all of the previous ones. I consider it like a flu shot which I also get every winter. The vaccines have never caused any side effects. I had Covid once.

by Anonymousreply 15September 20, 2023 11:06 PM

Yes, of course.

by Anonymousreply 16September 20, 2023 11:10 PM

The other thing to remember is wear masks in public and avoid crowds. Wash your hands. Frequently. Airports have become very fertile ground for the virus to spread.

by Anonymousreply 17September 20, 2023 11:14 PM

Well, that didn’t take long.

I did a triple vac today. Got thy updated COVID, Flu, and pneumonia vaccines. COVID & Flu in the left arm and pneumonia in the right. So by tomorrow I fully expect to wake up unable to use either arm for much for the rest of the week. I'm already feeling pain in both arms. I hope I don't feel the need to pleasure myself over the next few days. But then, at 70 it's not like I'll be missing much.

by Anonymousreply 20September 21, 2023 1:00 AM

Just got back from getting both Covid and flu vaccines. That’s as prepared as I can get. I’m not quite old enough for the RSV vaccine to be covered by my insurance.

by Anonymousreply 21September 21, 2023 1:07 AM

Getting both flu and COVID shot next week.

by Anonymousreply 22September 21, 2023 1:17 AM

Oh, fuck all this, and yes I will get the shot anyway. I am just so unspeakably sick and tired of all the goddam soapboxing in my social media from two people who regard themselves as experts on the virus and will never, ever, ever shut up about it.

by Anonymousreply 23September 21, 2023 1:25 AM

I’m going on vacation out of the country in December. I’m not sure if I should get the shot now or a few weeks before I leave. How much less effective is it after 3 months?

by Anonymousreply 24September 21, 2023 1:30 AM

I’ve been trying to make an appointment at my CVS but it’s not listed as a place that’s giving the vaccine. The closest CVS is an hour and a half round trip. No thanks, I’ll wait.

I had my flu and RSV vaccines a couple of week ago.

by Anonymousreply 25September 21, 2023 1:43 AM

No who cares anymore. I understand old people but it’s not that serious anymore.

I think it killed off the people who were going to die from it.

by Anonymousreply 26September 21, 2023 1:43 AM

What’s this about pneumococcal vaccines? I’ve had 2 pneumovax shots but I saw a blurb on cvs.com about 4 pneumococcal vaccines

by Anonymousreply 27September 21, 2023 1:50 AM

Yes! I got the new Covid shot on Monday at Walgreens, Pfizer. I felt awful about 24 hours later for 4 hours (101 fever, aches, chills, etc) and then was fine. My husband and teenager got it at the same time and had no reaction. I’ve yet to test positive for Covid and taken any and every available shot so hopefully this will continue!

by Anonymousreply 28September 21, 2023 1:59 AM

[quote]I think it killed off the people who were going to die from it.

It’s still killing 100 or so Americans a day.

by Anonymousreply 29September 21, 2023 2:40 AM

Hell yes. I found out today one of my former co-workers died this month from Covid. She was in her early 60s, overweight-ish and had diabetes - she was definitely at higher risk. Still, she was a vibrant, energetic person. She started showing symptoms and was dead two days later. It took her that quickly. Yes, I am definitely getting the shot.

by Anonymousreply 30September 21, 2023 2:48 AM

You better believe it, OP.

by Anonymousreply 31September 21, 2023 2:49 AM

Tell me about RSV. I's had pneumonia and flu jabs. and am getting Covud shot on Monday to prep for Europe trip. Do I need RSV?

by Anonymousreply 32September 21, 2023 3:08 AM

I get my RSV shot on Monday and I already got my Covid and flu shots. I had the Pneumonia shot a few years ago. If I need another my Doc will let me know.

by Anonymousreply 33September 21, 2023 3:54 AM

Got my Pfizer booster last night at Walgreens after work.

My arm has been sore all day, which I haven't felt since my initial vaccine injection a few years ago. My last booster was November 2022 so I chalked it up to that.

Got my flu shot on Sunday.

by Anonymousreply 34September 21, 2023 4:23 AM

Get the Covid shot in your non-dominant arm. You probably will be sore for about 36 hrs.

by Anonymousreply 35September 21, 2023 5:04 AM

I do see more and more people. even young, wearing masks on the Boston subways Not a lot, but I think noticeably more just in recent weeks.

As predicted, I woke up this morning at 3am and both my arms hurt like hell, Feel like someone's hit me on both sides with a sledgehammer. But interestingly enough, in all my previous COVID vaccines by the following day I developed a pronounced hard knot at the puncture site that took a week to recede. No knot this time. Just the pain.

by Anonymousreply 39September 21, 2023 10:41 AM

Got the flu shot and RSV vaccine on the same day last week. The COVID booster wasn't available last week, but I went back to CVS and got it today.

Everything went well. No reaction from any of the shots other than a slight soreness in my arm after the COVID booster, and that's fading.

by Anonymousreply 40September 21, 2023 11:33 AM

[quote]I’m going on vacation out of the country in December. I’m not sure if I should get the shot now or a few weeks before I leave. How much less effective is it after 3 months?

R24. The flu shot is good for about nine months. Get it now.

by Anonymousreply 41September 21, 2023 11:36 AM

Definitely. I'll get it as soon as it's available where I get immunizations.

by Anonymousreply 42September 21, 2023 11:36 AM

I had the vaccine on Saturday. Covid in the left arm, flu in the right arm.

I'm still alive

by Anonymousreply 43September 21, 2023 11:39 AM

I have never gotten an RSV shot. Is this a shot more for the elderly? I’m in my 30s.

by Anonymousreply 44September 21, 2023 11:44 AM

R44, the RSV shot is for those 60 or older - or those whose medical condition warrants it, the immuno-compromised, etc.. I'm 59 and severely diabetic, but it would still take a prescription from my doctor to get the RSV.

by Anonymousreply 45September 21, 2023 11:58 AM

With every Covid shot so far, I've been feverish and feel lousy the following day. So I either have to schedule a sick day from work (too busy for that right now) or mess up my weekend to get this shot because I'm expecting the same. I'll get it, just have to schedule an appropriate down day.

I don't react to flu shots (so far), so I'll get that soon.

I don't know about RSV. I've never heard about anybody getting seriously ill with RSV besides infants and elderly (heck, my parents both were hospitalized with it at same time), so I may hold off on that one.

by Anonymousreply 46September 21, 2023 12:03 PM

Got the Covid booster on Tuesday at Walgreens. Has a slightly sore arm on Wednesday.. Wednesday evening, my body felt weak and achy, so I went to bed earl. I woke up this morning feeling great. Last week I got the flu and RSV vaccine. No reaction at all. Next up is my first pneumonia vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 47September 21, 2023 12:15 PM

My partner and I got ours yesterday at Walgreens. Signed up online for both the COVID booster and this year's seasonal flu shot.

by Anonymousreply 48September 21, 2023 12:23 PM

Got the flu/RSV shots last week and Moderna-Spikevax Covid shot last night. No side effects or reactions from flu/RSV at all. My arm is a bit sore today but other than that I feel fine. I only had a strong reaction to the initial Pfizer shot back in 2021….I had RSV last December and if this vaccine prevents another round, it is worth it as RSV was almost worse than two rounds of Covid.

I had my booster and my flu shot on Monday at CVS.

The injection site was reddish and swollen, but that was to be expected. Other than that, I didn’t feel any different. It was close to 7pm by the time the CVS pharmacist came back from lunch (an hour after I arrived for my appointment!), so I pretty much just had dinner and went to bed afterward. R45 I needed a prescription to get my RSV shot too. I' have COPD, and I'm 63 and they still told me to call my doctor for a prescription. Said it was a state law. In Georgia. The pharmacist was sympathetic. He said hopefully they will change the law soon. I have my Covid and Flu already.

by Anonymousreply 55September 21, 2023 3:29 PM

Maybe I'm living in a bubble of vaccine enthusiasts, but I find Rhonda's strategy bizarre. Digging in against vaccines may win him points with the MAGAts in the primary, but once he gets to the general will he just jettison that idea? Or are there many "moderate" suburban moms and dads out there who will vote for someone with an "everyone vulnerable" policy on Covid?

by Anonymousreply 56September 21, 2023 5:50 PM

I took a look at the receipts for my 3 punctures this morning and was surprised by the price of the pneumonia vaccine. If I had paid out of pocket it would have cost me $308.00. The COVID would have been $108.00 & the Flu would have been $106.00.

by Anonymousreply 59September 22, 2023 2:15 AM

Say thank you to Biden for vaccine coverage assuming you are older.

by Anonymousreply 60September 22, 2023 3:17 AM

Yes, I’m getting it. I felt like shit for 24 hours after every booster. Every muscle hurt. One of them my arm got hot.

by Anonymousreply 61September 22, 2023 3:20 AM

I plan on getting it myself. I honestly want to get both my Flu and COVID shots together, but the people I live with don't want to get the shots at the same time. We're also continued maskwearers, the last in my far-right South Louisiana town. It's a sad thing to realize that nobody cares about their fellow neighbor. Politics over protection is the worst outcome of the COVID pandemic and it will follow us well into the future.

by Anonymousreply 62September 22, 2023 4:17 AM

I got the new covid shot this past Monday, and the new flu jab a week before. Several days of arm pain with the covid shot, but no other effects. Both shots free at Walgreens.

by Anonymousreply 63September 22, 2023 4:34 AM

Still no drug stores in my area offering it

by Anonymousreply 64September 22, 2023 11:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 65September 22, 2023 11:33 PM

Got the Covid and flu jabs today at Walgreens. $0.

by Anonymousreply 66September 22, 2023 11:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 67September 22, 2023 11:54 PM

I'm scheduled to get that, RSV, AND flu shots this coming Tuesday. Good lord help me if I have a reaction to any of them. But m best friend did the "triple shot" last week and only had a bit of fatigue afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 68September 23, 2023 9:16 AM

Covid-19 hospitalizations have been on the rise in the United States for months, with weekly admissions now more than triple what they were two months ago. Seniors have the highest rates of Covid hospitalizations by far, but hospitalizations among children — especially among those younger than 5 — are rising fast.

More than 20,500 people in the US were admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 during the week ending September 9.

“We haven’t really seen this for many months, but we’re starting to see people come into the hospital critically ill,” said CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a cardiologist and professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University. “There needs to be a greater sense of urgency because deaths are rising, hospitalizations are rising.”

Anybody have issues switching from Pfizer to Moderna? Different side effects? All of my shots so far (primary series and booster) have been Pfizer, but seems only the Moderna booster is available near me.

by Anonymousreply 73September 23, 2023 1:13 PM

R72 I'm not surprised there was an undercount. A lot of people never made it to the hospitals, so they weren't counted, or the cause of death was given as something else like pneumonia. And so many never got tested to confirm their illness. If you recall testing was not readily available for sometime here in the U.S.A. From February, 2020 until about February or March, 2021 when the vaccines started coming online, it was a very scary time. And of course the Orange Shitgibbon said to stop tracking and testing so we could keep the statistics lower. I will never forget that glimpse of how his twisted little mind worked.

by Anonymousreply 74September 23, 2023 1:45 PM

R73, I have had both Pfizer and Moderna, each twice, and the Moderna KICKED MY ASS both times. Although I am okay with that because they say it represents a more robust immune response.

The Pfizer was completely uneventful.

by Anonymousreply 75September 23, 2023 2:30 PM

Flu, Covid and RSV done. Now Shingles and Pneumonia to go. Thanks, Biden, for making all of these free.

Vaccine is still not abundant in my city. Showed up at CVS and was told they were all out. Walgreens told me last night that I had their last dose and they cancelled appointments for the next few days.

Call first.

by Anonymousreply 76September 23, 2023 3:10 PM

No, I'm not getting it. I got the vaccine and booster, but I see no need this time.

by Anonymousreply 77September 23, 2023 3:33 PM

I was supposed to get mine this morning. I booked it a week ago. Then I started getting sick on Wednesday, sore throat and achy. It got worse on Thursday and I went to bed at 8. My cat woke me up at some point and I went to scratch her head and she bit the crap out of my wrist. I washed out the wound and went back to bed. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got up for work. So I went to the ER and they put me on penicillin. They did a COVID test and I just checked the results and I'm fucking poz. I've had all the vaxxes and I finally fucking caught it. I'm so PISSED. So I cancelled the booster appointment.

by Anonymousreply 78September 23, 2023 4:00 PM

R77 that's what I did last year. Caught COVID over Thanksgiving and it kicked my ass. I thought it was a sinus tickle at first. Then the headache, joint pain, chills and fever kicked in. I started with Paxlovid, went on to antibiotics and steroids, took prescription cough medicine that sort of worked, but I couldn't stop coughing. And the f atigue, loss of taste, etc. were crippling. I was truly sick for a month. You do you. I hope you can get through until next May without catching it.

by Anonymousreply 79September 23, 2023 4:11 PM

So sorry, R78. Feel better.

by Anonymousreply 80September 23, 2023 4:15 PM

Too many people still think getting the shot is supposed to prevent you from getting COVID. But that's not the way it goes. It stops you from getting really sick and being hospitalized. And dying.

by Anonymousreply 81September 23, 2023 4:17 PM

R81 here. Want to add that if you get your shots and you still get it, as bad as you may feel, remember, it definitely could have been worse. I have heard that if you have a vitamin D deficiency you are more likely to get it. So remember to take your vitamin D, stay hydrated, and when you do get the shot, rub and massage the muscle of your arm so that it won't get sore.

by Anonymousreply 82September 23, 2023 4:19 PM

Who’s flown recently, are passengers masking up?

by Anonymousreply 83September 23, 2023 5:15 PM

^ I flew back from Paris to NYC a week and a half ago. I wore a mask in the airport and on both that flight and my flight to Paris 3 weeks prior. I was one of perhaps 10 passengers on the plane wearing a mask.

I'm getting the new Moderna vaccine this afternoon. I have 6 friends who are currently down with Covid or have recently been infected. I'm not thrilled about getting a vaccine ever but at 70, I think it's important to protect myself from serious complications. Besides preventing a more serious or deadly Covid infection, I read that the AMA's current thinking is that the vaccine may prevent long term Covid.

by Anonymousreply 84September 23, 2023 6:05 PM

I flew domestic a few days ago. Only a handful wore masks including me on the planes.

by Anonymousreply 85September 23, 2023 7:13 PM

Getting Covid booster (Pfizer), flu and RSV at Walgreens in a week or so. (Plenty of appointment openings in early October.) I got the pneumonia shot last year, so am skipping that. I remain a Covid virgin (to my knowledge) and have never had the least reaction to any Covid injection other than a very slightly sore arm (Shingrix was a whole other matter, though; still, better than shingles).

by Anonymousreply 86September 23, 2023 7:24 PM

I did a Tel-Med appointment with an urgent care clinic so I could get Paxlovid. I didn't know you take three pills, in the morning and in the evening for five days. I have to wait about three more hours so I can start them around 6 pm.

by Anonymousreply 87September 23, 2023 9:04 PM

No, because I'm not eligible. Here in the UK you need to be over age 65 and you can't pay to have it like you can the flu vaccine.

That's why I never understand people who say the covid vaccine is just being developed for the benefit of "big pharma" when it's only being administered to a small section of the population.

by Anonymousreply 88September 23, 2023 10:19 PM

Friend of mine caught Covid without having the omicron booster last year. He was seriously sick and now has Lupus that they believe was triggered by having Covid. I had the omicron booster and caught covid about a month later. I had one day of being a little tired and some sneezing, but that was it.

But you go on and take those chances with your bad self, r77

by Anonymousreply 89September 23, 2023 10:26 PM

I have had 2-3 weeks of major arthritis-like symptoms after the original vaccine and each booster. Followed by months of occasional relapses. I didn’t get the Omicron booster. I’ve only ever had Covid once. Dreading having to get another shot.

by Anonymousreply 90September 23, 2023 10:56 PM

CVS just notified me via text that the CDC wants me to get the booster. So I went to the website and….no vaccines available locally.

by Anonymousreply 91September 23, 2023 11:50 PM

Same with CVS in my area, r91. I got the last available shot yesterday, according to the pharmacist. However, I checked Walgreens for my boyfriend and they had tons of appointments. You might try another pharmacy.

by Anonymousreply 92September 23, 2023 11:55 PM

R90, I have read, from credible sources, that if you hydrate well, and most people don't, you won't have too much reaction to the shot. I also read that vitamin D deficiency contributes to adverse reactions. So maybe drink more water especially a couple days before and after the shot. And take a Vitamin D supplement.

by Anonymousreply 93September 23, 2023 11:56 PM

I’d scheduled my COVID for this past Friday, but the pharmacy rescheduled me to Monday because of “stock issues”. I’ll get the flu separately. I’m also trying to fit in the shingles vaccine. Not sure about RSV, I don’t know much about it. I developed 4 DVT and an extensive pulmonary embolism last October after surgery, so my risk profile is significantly different this year.

by Anonymousreply 94September 24, 2023 12:00 AM

And any anti-vaxxers on here kiss my ass if you think I give a rats ass about what you have it say about the vaccine and blood clots.

You have been warned.

by Anonymousreply 95September 24, 2023 12:03 AM

Thanks, R92. Just checked. Nobody has it.

My area is considered a summer resort so now that summer is over I guess we fell off the radar.

by Anonymousreply 96September 24, 2023 12:06 AM

Got the RSV shot 2 weeks, my arm was sore for days. The Covid booster is scheduled for this Tuesday and flu shot the week after. This will be the 6th Covid shot. I have scarred lungs from pnemonia, I'm not taking any chances.

by Anonymousreply 97September 24, 2023 12:23 AM

I just took my first dose of Paxlovid. I'll probably be going to bed in about 4 hours. I hope it starts to work by then because I need to fucking sleep. I've been having fever dreams and I'm fucking exhausted.

by Anonymousreply 98September 24, 2023 12:51 AM

This is the first day since I got my COVID/Flu/Pneumonia vaccines. The next day I hurt from the soles of my feet to the top of my head. Every muscle in my body felt like I had been beaten half to death. Yesterday was slightly better. Today I'm feeling somewhat human again.

R73 My first five jabs were all Pfizer but for this sixth one, Moderna was the only available. 24 hours of slight arm soreness plus mild flu-like symptoms were the only side effects. And I got the flu shot also (same arm).

by Anonymousreply 104September 24, 2023 2:41 AM

I take Advil Plus (acetaminophen and ibuprofen) 4 pills after the shot, before bed and the next morning. I also put a lidocaine patch on my arm before bed. I don’t have a problem.

by Anonymousreply 105September 24, 2023 3:38 AM

A few years ago I read that it's best to get the flu vaccine in late October because its effectiveness wanes after 3 or 4 months and flu season usually peaks in late January through February. Is everyone being advised to get the flu shot early this year?

by Anonymousreply 106September 24, 2023 3:51 AM

Holy fuck. Im getting ready to shower and had a coughing fit that turned into dry heaving for about five minutes. I know nausea's a Paxlovid side effect but goddamn that was bad.

R106, I've always heard that it's effective for about 6 months, so September or October would be the ideal time to get you to April

Just got my flu shot yesterday. Arm is a little sore, but no other issues.

by Anonymousreply 108September 24, 2023 12:18 PM

Thank you, R108!

Wow, R107, that sounds uncomfortable. Hopefully things will shift and you'll start feeling better soon.

I got the current Moderna shot on Thursday morning. All my previous Covid vaccines have been Moderna so far, and I’ve had a reaction to every one of them, usually starting about six hours afterwards. But this time, by Thursday night, there was nothing. Hmm. Was it just water in that vial? Nope. I woke up on Friday morning with all the familiar aches, pains, slight fever, and generally lousy feeling. That was over in 24 hours, but the injection site still hurts today, three days later.

I’ll wait a week or so to get the RSV shot. Over the past several years I participated in a vaccine trial for an RSV vaccine, but I have no idea whether it is the one that has been approved for use or that I even got the vaccine as opposed to a placebo — though I had the same side effects after each of the three doses I was given (which isn’t surprising because the trial was also using an mRNA-based vaccine).

I’ll get my flu shot in the middle of October, though I’ve never had much if any reaction to those, and I’ve gotten them every year for the past 40 years.

by Anonymousreply 111September 24, 2023 12:42 PM

Received the Covid and flu vax yesterday at Walgreens. Had to drive a bit out of the way to find a store with the new version. So far, the only symptoms are mild arm and neck pain as the vax travels through my lymph nodes. Nothing too bad.

by Anonymousreply 112September 24, 2023 12:54 PM

So, is this "new version" called something else? I want to make sure I'm getting the right shot when I schedule.

by Anonymousreply 113September 24, 2023 7:35 PM

New Covid and flu shot last Thursday. Mildly sore upper arm for a couple of hours. That’s it.

by Anonymousreply 114September 24, 2023 8:12 PM

R105 I thought you’re not supposed to take Advil for a certain time after the shot. Or is that no longer true? Or maybe I’m confusing it with having Covid.

I’ve had all kinds of vaccines in my life and none ever were known to have side effects other than a sore arm. I’m just suspicious of any vaccine where many people have such a strong reaction. By the way, I still have tinnitus, ever since the first shot I got.

by Anonymousreply 115September 24, 2023 8:13 PM

All vaccines are known to have side effects for some people.

by Anonymousreply 116September 24, 2023 9:19 PM

Started round 2 of Paxlovid and doing everything I can not to cause nausea. Fucking sore throat, it's like I'm swallowing ground glass. I have cepacol throat spray. Tastes like death but it helps.

I learned I'll have immunity for some 3-6 months after so I'm gonna wait as long as I can to get the booster to keep my immunity going as long as possible.

by Anonymousreply 117September 25, 2023 4:19 AM

^ Gargle with hot salt water, it really works.

by Anonymousreply 118September 25, 2023 5:24 AM

Yeah, warm salt water really helps. I used to think it was a bullshit thing…. like in tv shows when they told someone to “boil a pot of water” when a woman was in labor … but it really does help throat pain and after dental work.

by Anonymousreply 119September 25, 2023 4:46 PM

I got my shot last week and I had a sore arm and dry mussy. No other symptoms.

by Anonymousreply 120September 25, 2023 4:49 PM

Getting it tomorrow, along with Flu and RSV. I am headed to Hawaii for a month starting Thanksgiving weekend, and am doing all I can to avoid getting sick.

by Anonymousreply 121September 25, 2023 6:32 PM

Public service announcement: never trust a cough if you have Covid.

by Anonymousreply 122September 26, 2023 5:01 AM

What's Covid? Did I miss something?

by Anonymousreply 123September 26, 2023 5:25 AM

Got the Moderna late Saturday afternoon. Had slight fever and a bit of chills that night. Slightly sore arm when I turned on my side in bed but not that bad. When I woke yesterday (Sunday) it was as if I had a flu and I was tired and lethargic. All day. Slight headache. Not much of an appetite. Maybe it's my imagination but food tasted a bit metallic.

Felt much better this morning. Not 100% myself. Pushed through the fatigue and had a very productive day. Still have a slight metallic taste in my mouth. Hoping tomorrow I'm back to normal. Wondering if anyone else had a change in their sense of taste?

by Anonymousreply 124September 26, 2023 5:46 AM

How come nobody talks about how prices that were jacked up during pandemic will never come down.

by Anonymousreply 125September 26, 2023 9:41 AM

Yes, R125, that is worth looking into. Every fucking time the Networks start the conversation with Joe Biden's problems with inflation, I wish they would also look in to the profits being gouged by the business community. Wages are stagnant. Housing costs are through the roof, and the networks keep the focus on the government which can't do too much especially with the fucking Sedition Caucus blocking everything. Big business loves corrupt greedy bastards like Trump. No regulations, no taxes, no problem. I have also linked to a book worth reading. It's about the Pandemic. The other thing ancillary to this book, is the number of members of Congress and state elected officials who got PPE loans from the government and had their loans forgiven. The same fuckers who oppose student loan help.

Got the new Moderna yesterday, little sore and scratchy thirst today, but was also exposed to COVID on Sunday so who knows what I’m dealing with now.

Anyhoots, the pharmacist who gave me the jab said only the new version is able to legally be administered, the old versions are marked for incineration.

Just got the Pfizer shot today, so far so good, no side effects.

by Anonymousreply 131September 26, 2023 11:59 PM

Of course I’m getting it.

by Anonymousreply 132September 27, 2023 12:01 AM

Numerous staff at my school have colds right now. We’ve all seem to have caught it at the same time. A grade 1 student was out sick with Covid last week.

by Anonymousreply 133September 27, 2023 12:27 AM

Got it yesterday! No side effects for me at all, and I only had mild side effects from the last booster.

by Anonymousreply 134September 27, 2023 6:38 PM

I got it yesterday, too--Pfizer--and the flu shot. No side effects, but I usually don't get them anyway. Obviously, the injection sites were a little sore, but not much. It was a little odd that I felt like the Covid vaccine made me feel itchy (very mildly) for a while; not on my skin, but in the muscle where it was injected. The itchiness spread and then disappeared over the course of a few hours. It really wasn't enough to bother me at all, but I wonder what that was or if it counts as a reaction that I need to report next time.

by Anonymousreply 135September 27, 2023 7:15 PM

r135, I spoke to a friend who got itchy at the injection site.

I had my Pfizer this morning. Fine for a couple of hours, then I took to bed for the rest of the afternoon having a "squirm nap" (the kind you have with a cold, where you toss and turn). Got up at dinnertime feeling better but the arm is pretty damn swollen.

BTW, Americans who don't have insurance are eligible to get the shot for free at many locations. You can check for yours at vaccine dot gov.

by Anonymousreply 136October 1, 2023 2:10 AM

Tried to get both the flu and Covid shots today at Walmart but they were out of Rona vaccine and out of needles.

Nothing else to do but laugh.

by Anonymousreply 137October 1, 2023 2:16 AM

Got all three shots this morning (COVID, flu, RSV). Typically, I start feeling bad the day after the COVID shot. Then again, it’s been almost 12 hours so I would have expected the achy feeling to start by now. I did pop an Advil a few hours ago. So far so good.

by Anonymousreply 138October 1, 2023 2:22 AM

My partner and I got both COVID booster and flu shot week before last. At Walgreens. Made appointment online easily. No side affects whatsoever, one shot in each arm. No cost.

by Anonymousreply 139October 1, 2023 2:24 AM

Got the moderna yesterday. Arm is very sore and I’m achey and a bit tired today but otherwise fine.

by Anonymousreply 140October 1, 2023 2:41 AM

Got my 2nd shingles shot yesterday. going to schedule the covid on for next week. There were a lot of people getting it which is good.

by Anonymousreply 141October 1, 2023 2:52 AM

Got the Pfizer Covid shot Friday. Sore arm relieved by 1 Naproxen tablet that afternoon, no pain for the 48 hours since.

by Anonymousreply 142October 1, 2023 12:31 PM

Got it on Friday. Yesterday afternoon I got chills, sweats, aches. Took 4 Advil Plus slapped a lidocaine patch on my swollen arm. Feel better today.

by Anonymousreply 143October 1, 2023 12:41 PM

My pharmacist recomnended drinking two extra bottles of water after the shot to relieve my moderate reaction. It did help.

by Anonymousreply 144October 1, 2023 1:25 PM

Got my Covid and flu shots on Friday. Two very sore arms on Saturday, but right as rain this morning. The flu shot must’ve hit a capillary because it bled quite a bit and I have a small bruise there, but that seems to be the extent of the damage.

I’ll report back though if I start going into uncontrollable restless leg convulsions like Dee and Jim-Bob Plorable were all posting to YouTube when the vax first rolled out.

by Anonymousreply 145October 1, 2023 1:31 PM

Made my appointment for this Friday. I planned for a day when I wouldn't be doing anything the next day or two, remembering the headache and/or chills I suffered with my previous Covid shots (also my shingles shots).

by Anonymousreply 146October 1, 2023 1:51 PM

R137 here…I was able to get an appointment next Saturday at a Rite Aid in a small town just south of me.

I was told by a wise nurse to immediately take two Advils and chug a Gatorade after the shot…and go for a walk. It seems to work. I’ve never had any side effects other than tiredness.

by Anonymousreply 147October 1, 2023 8:41 PM

I don’t know yet. Kind of doubt it. If I die, I die. And no, you can’t have my stuff.

by Anonymousreply 148October 1, 2023 8:46 PM

When I had the previous shots they specifically told me not to take any pain relievers until the day after. Is it ok to take them after the shot?

by Anonymousreply 149October 1, 2023 9:53 PM

Got it last week wth a flu shot - not much reaction, a little tired the next day

by Anonymousreply 150October 1, 2023 9:55 PM

[quote]You should not take over-the-counter pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen to help prevent side effects before you get the vaccine. by Anonymousreply 151October 1, 2023 9:59 PM

NYT today:

Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman, who together identified a chemical tweak to messenger RNA. Their work enabled potent Covid vaccines to be made in less than a year, averting tens of millions of deaths and helping the world recover from the worst pandemic in a century. The approach to mRNA the two researchers developed has been used in Covid shots that have since been administered billions of times globally and has transformed vaccine technology, laying the foundation for inoculations that may one day protect against a number of deadly diseases like cancer.

The breakthroughs behind the shots unfolded little by little over decades, including at the University of Pennsylvania, where Dr. Weissman runs a lab. Dr. Karikó, the 13th woman to win the prize, languished for many long years without funding or a permanent academic position, keeping her research afloat only by latching on to more senior scientists at the University of Pennsylvania who let her work with them. Unable to get a grant, she said she was told she was “not faculty quality” and was forced to retire from the university a decade ago. She remains only an adjunct professor there while she pursues plans to start a company with her daughter, Susan Francia, who has an M.B.A. and was a two-time Olympic gold medalist in rowing. The mRNA work was especially frustrating, she said, because it was met with indifference and a lack of funds. She said she was motivated by more than not being called a quitter; as the work progressed, she saw small signs that her project could lead to better vaccines. “You don’t persevere and repeat and repeat just to say, ‘I am not giving up,’” she said.

She and Dr. Weissman had their first chance meeting over a copy machine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. Dr. Karikó, the daughter of a butcher who had come to the United States from Hungary two decades earlier when her research program there ran out of money, was preoccupied by mRNA, which provides instructions to cells to make proteins. Defying the decades-old orthodoxy that mRNA was clinically unusable, she believed that it would spur medical innovations.

At the time, Dr. Weissman was desperate for new approaches to a vaccine against H.I.V., which had long proved impossible to defend against. A physician and virologist who had tried and failed for years to develop a treatment for AIDS, he wondered if he and Dr. Karikó could team up to make an H.I.V. vaccine. It was a fringe idea that, when they began their research, seemed unlikely to work. The mRNA was delicate, so much so that when it was introduced to cells, the cells instantly destroyed it. Grant reviewers were not impressed. Dr. Weissman’s lab instead relied on seed money that the university gives new faculty members to get started.“We saw the potential and we weren’t willing to give up,” Dr. Weissman said.

“What is now recognized as a transformative technology required dedicated scientists to carry out fundamental research over many years to reach the position it was in 2020 when its rapid deployment as a vaccine technology was made possible by global collaboration,” Brian Ferguson, an immunologist at the University of Cambridge, said. “The work of Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman in the years prior to 2020 made this possible, and they richly deserve this recognition.”

by Anonymousreply 156October 3, 2023 7:05 AM

I had the Moderna Covid booster a week ago Wednesday. I woke up Wednesday night in real pain and misery. Very sore arm, feverish, achy. I took a tylenol. Thursday I worked but I was foggy and uncomfortable all day - continued to be achy and rather feverish. Took some more tylenol at bedtime. By Friday I was more or less myself again. I have several friends who took the Pfizer and had no reaction at all. We'll see if there's any difference in the protection from infection or seriousness of COVID if I get it vs what they might experience.

by Anonymousreply 157October 3, 2023 8:45 AM

I got the Covid, RSV and flu shots yesterday late afternoon. Today, my Covid shot arm hurts but manageable, I have chills and a killer headache. I’m a bit nauseated but hungry and irritable and my hands are like icicles. I got the Spike shot aka Moderna.

by Anonymousreply 158October 3, 2023 6:52 PM

I also got the Covid (Pfizer), RSV and flu shots yesterday. I'm feeling just a little achy and stupid today, which I'm attributing to the RSV shot as I've never had any reaction to Covid or flu shots (could be the combo platter, of course). The pharmacist told me take Tylenol, which I've done. Pretty sure I can go out and run a couple of errands and then have a nice lie down.

by Anonymousreply 159October 3, 2023 7:00 PM

Just got the COVID booster. Local Rite-Aid was out of Moderna, so I took the Pfizer.

by Anonymousreply 160October 3, 2023 7:04 PM

Just scheduled my COVID shot for this Friday afternoon. Hoping to get the worse of the fever/shakes out of the way before I go to bed that evening, then I can veg out on Saturday. (With Pfizer shot, they usually start about 5 hrs after shot). I'm the one who was asking about switching from Pfizer to Moderna. Looks like I'll be one of them as the CVS around me only seem to have Moderna this time. (I want to keep my vaccination records under the same roof). I have a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks, so hoping my immunities are strong then.

by Anonymousreply 161October 4, 2023 12:41 PM

Yes, I’m getting both for all the reasons listed above and also because I’m married to an epidemiologist.

by Anonymousreply 162October 4, 2023 12:52 PM

I'm getting a Pfizer shot this Friday at 3:30, then I'm supposed to join friends for drinks at 5:30. Will alcohol cause a bad reaction with the vaccine? Hold me, David ...

by Anonymousreply 163October 4, 2023 12:58 PM

I have had all the Pfizer covid shots and boosters, all along. No issues, except temporary pain at the vaccination site. Gone in a couple days and NOT debilitating. Three weeks ago, the new booster was out, so I got it. It was Moderna. No big deal. EXCEPT my arm was so sore the next day that I had to use the other arm to lift it in order to chop some ingredients for something I was cooking. The good news? The pain and near-inability to use the arm that got the shot was much better the next day. No other side effects felt. And yes, my recent booster was received at a local CVS. FYI: They asked for my CDC cards, which I have had stored in an easy-to-see/easy-to-grab place in the kitchen since the whole covid shit-show began. Not sure if they would have declined vaccinating me if I had not brought it with me, but you might want to bring YOURS with you when you go.

by Anonymousreply 164October 4, 2023 12:59 PM

I remember when I got the very first Pfizer vaccine in March 2021 that the nurse who administered it, as well as all the personnel manning the hospital-based vaccination site, told us all to pump and work our arms for a while after receiving the shot, to mitigate soreness. Since then, no one has advised this, and I wonder if doing so might help dull the pain afterwards. Maybe they figured out that it really didn't do anything at all . . .

by Anonymousreply 165October 4, 2023 1:03 PM

Got the latest booster over the weekend. No weird side effects. Pretty much the same affects as the other times I've received it. A sore arm for a few hours and a slight fever which lasted about five minutes. I drank a lot of water and was just fine. I've had worse results with flu shots.

by Anonymousreply 166October 4, 2023 1:17 PM

R166 again:

Just wanted to add that my shots are Moderna.

by Anonymousreply 169October 4, 2023 3:01 PM

Last evening, I got the RSV shot, Flu Shot and Covid Shot (Pfizer) at area Grocery Store Pharmacy.

I was not able to use their online appointment website for the Covid shot, so called to inquire. I was told that they were doing walk ins only. So, I drove over around 6pm, waited for about 30 minutes and received all 3.

So far, only some mild soreness in my upper arms, but no other problems. Similar to previous reactions.

Interested to read about Vitamin D. I've been taking it regularly for a number of years. If Vitamin D can reduce bad vaccine reactions, perhaps that's why I've been lucky in that regard.

by Anonymousreply 170October 4, 2023 3:05 PM

I did get it already. As with other COVID shots and boosters nothing except a little sleepy the next morning.

My poor BF gets very sick after every shot - his body's immune system works overtime and he usually runs a bit of a temperature for a few hours, as if he has the flu.

by Anonymousreply 171October 4, 2023 3:23 PM

[quote] A friend of mine got her shot at Walgreens last week and brought along her vaccine card. They said they're not using them anymore

They used it for me at CVS.

It's actually made me more aware of the fact that we should have info for any vaccine. Now when I get the flu shot I asky doctor's office to write down the info (lot number etc) they used on the information sheet, in case I have a bad reaction.

by Anonymousreply 172October 4, 2023 3:24 PM

R170 I'm surprised they gave you all 3 at the same time, I understood that the RSV shot had to be separate.

by Anonymousreply 173October 4, 2023 3:25 PM

Yes, my pharmacy wouldn't allow me to get all three shots at once. "One per arm."

by Anonymousreply 174October 4, 2023 3:31 PM

[quote] A friend of mine got her shot at Walgreens last week and brought along her vaccine card. They said they're not using them anymore

That's odd. I got mine at Walgreens and asked if they still needed the card (which I'd brought along) and they gave me a very emphatic yes.

by Anonymousreply 175October 4, 2023 3:36 PM

The Walgreens in our area all but collapsed during COVID - they were constantly closing with no notice, so I haven't been to one for years.

by Anonymousreply 176October 4, 2023 3:41 PM

I scheduled my covid and flu shot last week at Walgreens, but got there and was told it would be a 45-60 minute wait, so I said never mind. I'll try again this week.

by Anonymousreply 177October 4, 2023 3:43 PM

For anyone who got the RSV shot, did your insurance cover it?

by Anonymousreply 178October 4, 2023 3:44 PM

R170 here.

I did bring my Covid vaccination card, but the pharmacist said it was no longer needed.

In any case, I keep a record of all vaccinations I've had, giving when and where.

I'm more organized with my record keeping these days.

by Anonymousreply 179October 4, 2023 4:02 PM

My CVS Caremark insurance through my employer covered the RSV shot cost R178.

by Anonymousreply 180October 4, 2023 4:09 PM

I had to travel early in September and got the last booster which I hadn’t taken, before this new one came out. At the airport and in the plane, very few people were masking up. I still have N95 mask left.

by Anonymousreply 181October 4, 2023 4:32 PM

I got Covid and flu in one arm and RSV in the other earlier this week at a SF Walgreens. Yes, they wanted my Covid card (which I'd brought). I've never had any reaction to a vaccination, other than wicked fatigue with the Shingrix vax, but I felt a bit achy and stupid the day after these three. The pharmacist said I may have a reaction to the RSV so I'm putting it down to that. She said to drink lots of water and take Tylenol, which I did. I also took a couple of naps. Perfectly fine today.

Nasty when not life-threatening. I’ve got a very mild case and I’m still hacking up junk two weeks later.

by Anonymousreply 185October 4, 2023 5:33 PM

Get a box of lidocaine patches before getting vaccines. Slap one on that night afte4 getting your shot. Works. Your arm will swell as usual but it’s not nearly as painful.

Don’t get stinky ones with menthol

I had a RVS shot yesterday morning. Six hours after the shot, I took two Tylenols as I was feeling a headache coming on. That helped, and I slept like a baby. Nothing but a slightly sore arm this morning.

by Anonymousreply 193October 5, 2023 3:02 PM

I had the Pfizer covid vaccine earlier. The leaflet they gave me says it's Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.4-5 and the date at the end of the leaflet says it was last revised in December 2022 - which makes it seem like it's nearly a year old.

What's the point in giving it me, then? Won't it only protect against older variants?

The flu vaccine is updated every year and you know you're always gonna get the latest one at this time of year, when when it comes to covid vaccines it seems like they just give you whatever they've got left, even if it's old. Does it matter?

by Anonymousreply 194October 5, 2023 3:20 PM

I should add I'm in my early 40s, so maybe I get a different one to those over 60. I'm in an 'at risk' group, hence being eligible - whereas normally people of my age wouldn't be.

Got my shot yesterday around 3:30. Moderna this time. Every time with Pfizer the fever effects would start after 5 hours, but this one waited for 12 hours. Meaning that it woke me up at 3:30 am.

Arm hurts, but to be expected. Fever is spiking in the 101s. Trying to ride it out to give my immune system time to do its job. It it goes to 102, I'll take some Tylenol.

Looks like a lazy day on the couch today.

by Anonymousreply 196October 7, 2023 10:17 AM

I, too, got mine at 3:30 yesterday, but got Pfizer (like my first two; my boosters since 2021 have been Moderna). Normally by now some side effects have kicked in—headache or chills/fever—but so far, nothing except soreness at the injection site. Should I become paranoid and believe that this means my immune system has gotten lazy and isn't reacting? Am I doomed?

In other words, who wants my stuff?

by Anonymousreply 197October 7, 2023 2:45 PM

R197 I only ever had any side effects to my very first covid vaccine in early 2021. I've had plenty of boosters since then and felt fine, other than a sore arm.

So I'd say you can keep your stuff for a while longer.

by Anonymousreply 198October 7, 2023 10:43 PM

I realize I got my Covid vaccine in a CVS pharmacy in Target but I they didn’t ask for my vax card so I didn’t get it stamped.

by Anonymousreply 199October 8, 2023 1:11 AM

I got the COVID booster and the flu shot together.

Woke up SICK AS A FUCKIN’ DOG!

by Anonymousreply 200October 8, 2023 1:13 AM

I heard an expert say you should expect to react to the latest booster like you did for others. 2 older women I know had no side effects as before.

I got a 1-2 degree elevated temp the day after and a bit of a headache. This time I felt a bit dizzy a few times in the following days, but water helped. It could have been a separate sinus issue. All is well now.

by Anonymousreply 201October 8, 2023 1:40 AM

R177 If you didn’t before you can book your Walgreens shot online.

by Anonymousreply 202October 8, 2023 1:43 AM

Got Pfizer and the flu shot today. I took a walk afterward and had lunch. I’m tired as hell. Bit of a headache. I was also probably fighting a little fever earlier.

My arm doesn’t hurt at all, so that’s good!

I went to Rite Aid and got a new vax card.

by Anonymousreply 203October 8, 2023 1:46 AM

I have never had side effects other than a sore arm from any vaccine EXCEPT for Shringrex. After the first shot I felt a little icky but it only lasted a day and then I was fine. Having my flu and Covid booster on Monday. I don't anticipate any side effects because I did the same thing (getting both at the same time) last year and was fine. I'm 54 years old and have been getting my yearly flu shot since I had the flu twice in the span of 3 months about 5 years ago. Never again. I felt like I had been hit by a damn truck and was dying.

Once you've had the flu, you don't mess around with skipping a flu shot. And anyone who says the flu shot gave them the flu is full of shit. It might make you feel icky for a day but trust me, that shit is NOTHING like the flu.

by Anonymousreply 204October 8, 2023 1:57 AM

R204…yep, the one year I skipped the shot I caught the flu. I looked and felt like death for almost a month.

by Anonymousreply 205October 8, 2023 2:02 AM

With every Covid shot, side effects kicked in about 6-8 hours later and I felt fluish through the next day. I’m scheduled to get the shot on Friday so I can stay in bed if necessary on Saturday.

Flu and RSV shots down for the season. Only this one to go.

by Anonymousreply 206October 8, 2023 11:43 AM

Feel much better today. After getting only 4 hours of sleep the night before, I slept over 8 hours last night (which is rare for me), in addition to a couple of naps throughout the day. Took Tylenol before going to bed last night, so that probably helped.

Fever is gone, so I'm going to go for my regular weekend walk with some friends. I told them it'd be more of a 'mosey', but I need to get out of the house.

I agree with R204. Never used to get the flu shot, until I got the flu and was incredibly sick. Now I don't skip it.

Still considering RSV, and I'll probably get the Shingles shots someday.

by Anonymousreply 207October 8, 2023 12:12 PM

I got mine Saturday night, and Sunday brought the most intense side effects I've had yet (I've had every other booster recommended).

Fatigue, full-body aches, kept waking up with chills. My skin felt hot although I didn't register a fever. I spent all of Sunday in bed.

I barely had any side effects with the last booster. Not complaining; I'm grateful we have this technology. But I was expecting to breeze through like the last couple times and certainly did not!

by Anonymousreply 208October 9, 2023 8:18 AM

After one flulike day, I woke up fresh as a daisy on Monday.

I have no complaints. If this is what I need to do every year, I am willing to do it.

I know too many people who died, almost died, or developed long COVID to skip any preventative measures.

by Anonymousreply 209October 10, 2023 5:14 AM

Got the covid booster and flu shot together in the same arm yesterday. I put a lidocaine patch on my arm after like someone suggested.

No side effects at all. And my arm is only a tiny bit sore.

by Anonymousreply 210October 10, 2023 7:03 PM

R194 The date the LEAFLET was last revised does NOT mean your dose of the ACTUAL VACCINE is also from that date. A lot of that legalese has to be approved and that was likely when it was officially approved.

It was on you to confirm with your pharmacy that they were administering the new 2023-2024 vaccine to you. Did you do that?

by Anonymousreply 211October 10, 2023 7:09 PM

[quote]Got the covid booster and flu shot together in the same arm yesterday.

Me too. I had them at 10am, the only side effects kicked in about 8pm and consisted of sudden intense tiredness and slight joint pains. I woke up this morning and felt fine. My arm is less sore than it has been for previous covid and flu shots.

by Anonymousreply 212October 10, 2023 7:13 PM

R211 I'm from the UK and got it for free on the NHS. So I wasn't about to start quibbling.

by Anonymousreply 213October 14, 2023 8:52 PM

Friday morning we got the Covid vaccine in our left arm and flu shot in the right.

I'm happy to report there were almost no side effects. I took ibuprofen when I got home, and acetaminophen before bed, plus I drank a huge amount of water.

I had weird aches in my femurs in the middle of the night that lasted almost no time at all. I got up and walked four miles, helped host our condo coffee klatsch, and ran errands.

I am very pleased.

by Anonymousreply 214October 14, 2023 8:58 PM

^^My partner had a little more pain than me at the Covid vaccination site, but has similarly been up and around all day.

by Anonymousreply 215October 14, 2023 8:59 PM

I got the Fluzone and Moderna in the left arm, as usual, and the RSV in my right arm. I have a small heated flat headed vibrator, neck and headaches, and I ironed out the vaccination lumps the next day.

Other than the temporary site hardness, no side effects and Moderna usually knocks me out for a day.

Oh, and for the RSV shot , I said preexisting conditions were obesity (fat whore ) hypertension and former smoker.

by Anonymousreply 216October 14, 2023 9:15 PM

Got the Moderna on Tuesday at Walgreens. Like many others have written here.....next day feverish and some mild nausea. Took a nap and by four p.m. I was fine.

Flu shot at my doctor's office on Friday. No side effects.

At Walgreens they gave me my papers. My Humana Insurance paid for it.....but the charge was $184.99.

The Walgreen's Pharmacy closes for lunch at 12:45 p.m. So I booked the 12:30 p.m. slot so they would get me over with and get me out of there so they could close down. It worked......in there about 10 minutes.....and they didn't even make me wait around afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 217October 14, 2023 9:41 PM

I got the Moderna and flu shots yesterday morning and felt perfectly fine for about 10 hours. Then, I had such an attack of the chills that my whole body was shaking uncontrollably, my chest hurt like hell and it was hard to even take a deep breath.

Although I had had bad reactions to previous COVID shots/boosters, they were nothing like this. Honestly had me worried. I took a couple Tylenol, put on sweats, and bundled up under the covers until the trembling stopped.

This morning, I woke up feeling pretty good -- until the chills came back a couple hours later. Not quite as bad as last night, but still pretty intense. As a result, I've spent most of the day in bed, sleeping off & on. Although I'm now feeling slightly achy all over, the worst of it seems to have passed. I hope.

by Anonymousreply 218October 14, 2023 10:16 PM

It seems like they've transitioned to the covid shot being like an annual flu shot.

I've seen recommendations to do both at the same time and the big places like CVS actively push doing both. There's no reason not to get the covid shot if you believe in vaccines and are getting a flu shot anyway.

by Anonymousreply 219October 14, 2023 10:19 PM

R219, I did both at Walgreens at the same time, and got the 1st shot of the shingles vax along with MPOX no. 2 a week later on the same day.

by Anonymousreply 220October 15, 2023 3:21 PM

Got the Covid vax on Friday at CVS. My card is full so they filled out another one. I didn’t even check to see if it was Moderna like all my other shots! That’s how blasé I’m getting. Sore arm but I only notice it if I sleep on that side. I did drink a lot of water beforehand and waved my arm about afterwards if that helps. Probably just made me look unhinged.

Will get the flu shot next month, don’t want to overload my immune system. RSV isn’t covered by my insurance, maybe that will change. Paid for Shingrex a couple years ago, that was enough.

by Anonymousreply 221October 15, 2023 8:22 PM

Who do I have to blow to get the RSV shot? I'm "only" 56 but have asthma and some other long-term post-COVID breathing issues.

by Anonymousreply 222October 16, 2023 9:32 PM

I got the RSV shot today. No charge, no problems

by Anonymousreply 223October 16, 2023 9:35 PM

Severe body aches 24 hours after for about 4-5 hours.

by Anonymousreply 224October 16, 2023 9:37 PM

In the mass vaccination clinic at 10 am this morning, had the flu shot, out the door at 10:10 am.

No response good or bad since then. And now totally vaxxed.

by Anonymousreply 225October 16, 2023 11:07 PM

I got my shots, and then got a stinky pinky in the parking lot from some random trade.

Dammit, I guess I need another shot now.

As the number of Covid cases rises and people get their heads out of their asses everyone with a functioning brain will get the shot.

Anti-vaxxers are over in Dump's Delusionalworld so it's no great loss if they die.

Of course I will get the shot, OP. Yes it's available locally. I don't know of any side effects that have gotten attention and I don't expect to have any. I had my flu shot a few weeks ago.

by Anonymousreply 228October 25, 2023 2:55 AM

I just got my Covid booster, today.

by Anonymousreply 231October 25, 2023 4:18 AM

I got very ill from the COVID shot and yesterday I got the flu and RSV vaccinations, which also made me very ill. It's usually only 24-48 hours of misery, but when you get a number of vaccinations in one year, those bad days add up. However, they are not the same as getting a serious illness and being out of commission for weeks.

by Anonymousreply 232October 25, 2023 5:17 AM

Not sure what it is about this new shot that is turning people off. My siblings are not anti-vaxers as they've had all the other shots, but don't seem to be concerned enough to get this one. I think I'm the only one who has had it so far. Just apathy.

by Anonymousreply 233October 25, 2023 11:55 AM

Covid isn't in the news every day. Enough people aren't dying, yet.

by Anonymousreply 234October 25, 2023 12:13 PM

I got it, the RSV, and the flu shot in the same day. I made my appointment on a Sunday am so I could take it easy that day in case I needed to rest. I felt fine, and hit several breweries and did a hike that afternoon.

I am 62yo. No side effects from any of them other than some slight soreness in the arm that got 2 injections on the next morning.

by Anonymousreply 235October 25, 2023 12:19 PM

My flu shot yesterday and my covid shot a few weeks ago both resulted in no side effects and very minor soreness. They must be using some new improved injection technique.

by Anonymousreply 236October 25, 2023 1:49 PM

I got it just over a week ago. Nurse said appointments have been steady, starting as soon as the FDC recommended it.. Vaccine delivery was erratic, they’d get less than they requested so no one could make appointments but now the supplies are good. They thaw out 30 days worth at a time. (Remember when vaccine could only be thawed and used that day?)

Sore arm for one day.

by Anonymousreply 237October 25, 2023 1:51 PM

R233 I think a lot of people feel like covid is fairly minor for most people now. There's also a feeling that we've truly gone back to pre-pandemic life; certainly here in the UK.

When I think back to 2020/2021 most people were distancing and wearing masks and I'd look back on the days of 2019 with almost jealousy. Now it's the other way around; things feel like they were in 2019 and the days of face coverings and distancing seem alien.

So, while everyone knows covid hasn't gone away, it's now seen by most as the type of virus that's no different to all the other viruses you could have got pre-covid, hence why there's no major desire to get vaccinated.

No, I'm done. My last booster was in 2022. haven't gotten COVID ever (knock knock knock, knock on wood) - I did a blood test to see if I had any non spike antibodies for the virus and nope.

I'll keep up with taking my daily regimen of 5,000 IU of vitamin D, elderberry, and assorted anti virals and immune system enhancers like astragalus.

Basically, I'm increasingly spooked by the various revelations about the mRNA vaccines. However, a good friend who is my age, 54, and his husband both got COVID two weeks ago on the very day they were to get boosted, and the severity of it, from their reports, did give me some pause. But I still think I'm done with them.

by Anonymousreply 240October 25, 2023 11:04 PM

"Basically, I'm increasingly spooked by the various revelations about the mRNA vaccines."

How to inform us that you're a troll without identifying yourself as such. What would these revelations be, perchance?

by Anonymousreply 241October 25, 2023 11:15 PM

R241 Oh, but the fool pops 5,000 units per day of vitamin D, elderberry, and assorted other hot bullshit. Never mind the fact that the body can't really absorb much more than 4,000 IU of vitamin D per day, and doctors advise patients against ingesting even that much in a single day.

Clearly they do all their own research, and know more about immunology than actual doctors.

by Anonymousreply 242October 25, 2023 11:31 PM

I have to say how impressed I am with almost all of us getting our vaccinations. And happy..

Elderberry? I guess it was just a matter of time before the trolls appeared.

by Anonymousreply 243October 25, 2023 11:33 PM

So there are people ingesting vast quantities of "assorted" snake-oil cures every single day, but "think they're done" with a biennial or annual shot—because of "various revelations."

Okay.

by Anonymousreply 245October 26, 2023 12:29 AM

Weekly deaths from Covid in September, per the CDC:

Sep 30, 2023 1,254

Sep 23, 2023 1,311

Sep 16, 2023 1,324

Sep 9, 2023 1,259

Sep 2, 2023 1,146

by Anonymousreply 246October 26, 2023 12:42 AM

Those numbers look fairly steady for September. People dropping dead of Covid while everyone's pretending that it doesn't exist or it's just a flu.

When this strain of Covid kills more people, and it will, the apathetic people will start clamoring for the newer shot. Then they'll bitterly complain when they can't get one fast enough or in a location that suits them.

Vaccines for Covid-19 and influenza may slightly increase the risk of strokes caused by blood clots in the brains of seniors, particularly when the two vaccines are given at the same time and when they are given to adults who are age 85 and older, according to a new study.

That said, the risk identified in the FDA’s study appears to be very small — roughly 3 strokes or transient ischemic attacks for every 100,000 doses given — and the study found it may be primarily driven by the high-dose or adjuvanted flu vaccines, which are specially designed to rev up the immune system so it mounts a stronger response to the shot.

I am one of the 2% that develop an incredibly itchy, red rash about two weeks after receiving the vaccine. It happened to me after my first booster and again with this shot.

It lasts about a month. Antihistamines help but do not totally relieve it.

by Anonymousreply 250October 28, 2023 12:39 PM

That happened to me after the first booster, also, R250, but not with this shot.

by Anonymousreply 251October 28, 2023 12:56 PM

I've had 3 already. That should be enough.

by Anonymousreply 252October 28, 2023 2:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 253October 28, 2023 2:25 PM

Well it's not, r252, stop whining like a little bitch.

Many vaccines require boosters. That's life. With the Covid vaccine, it's a new virus and still mutating. We'll need to adjust our shots to meet the virus where it is as we learn more about the way it will attack us.

by Anonymousreply 254October 28, 2023 4:54 PM

Israeli scientists have already stated that there is no benefit to getting 5 or 6 of these shots.

by Anonymousreply 255October 28, 2023 10:41 PM

I took the new shot but the number of "vaccinated" people repeatedly getting reinfected gives me little to no confidence it accomplishes any more than making my arm sore.

by Anonymousreply 256October 28, 2023 10:55 PM

I took the vaccine a few days ago and have been feeling fatigued. I slept around 11 hours, last night. Hopefully, I've turned the corner. It's depressing to feel so tired.

by Anonymousreply 257October 28, 2023 11:02 PM

[quote] How many of these shots do they expect us to get? I've had 3 already. That should be enough.

R252, do you get the seasonal flu shot? Or are you done with those too?

by Anonymousreply 258October 29, 2023 12:09 AM

I got my flu and Covid shots two Fridays ago. I had a fever and felt bad that night and the following day. The pharmacist who shot me up, Dan, was rather cute. I wanted him to keep injecting me, this time with his own special serum.

by Anonymousreply 259October 29, 2023 12:25 AM

People keep saying the vaccine doesn't do anything, but the actual statistics are that it does prevent infection in approximately 30% of people, and of course, it prevents severe disease in the vast majority of the rest. Don't forget that.

by Anonymousreply 260October 29, 2023 1:18 AM

I got it and grew a second penis

by Anonymousreply 261October 29, 2023 1:21 AM

I don't understand how I'm a "troll" if I just said honestly why I am not getting another booster, and my reasoning behind this decision. I could care less what everyone else does, it's none of my business. If everyone else feels that another booster would be to their benefit, that's totally fine by me, it doesn't matter to me in the least. I certainly didn't post to persuade anyone otherwise

by Anonymousreply 262October 29, 2023 1:45 AM

You do know, R261, that when the vaccines first came out, "allegedly" the Moderna formulation did something the Pfizer version didn't and that was to increase penile size. You didn't get a duplicate dick, just a couple of extra centimeters. Underground marketing at its best!

Every year I get the flu shot and this is my sixth COVID-19 vaccination – all Pfizer except #4. The second dose back in March 2021 knocked me out for a couple days: chills, headache, general myalgia. But I kept getting updates. My work requires in-person interaction with hundreds of people each week and my teenager is in middle school, a reservoir of pestilence.
