The Endlessly Fascinating Queen Camilla and King Charles the III visit France....

Camilla looks splendid in Barbie Pink! Can she be any more current and fashion forward than this! Just SPLENDID. Her buttery hair color is tres chic as well. We'd be remiss if DL did not cover this momentous visit. And Charles speaks French! How absolutely...Splendid!

Camilla's thought bubble: "Champagne for Cam-Cam"!

Spot Major Johnny is one of my favourite new games of the last year.

by Anonymousreply 2September 20, 2023 1:55 PM

Camilla's dress doesn't work. I think she is attempting to emulate Queen Elizabeth, i.e., wearing bright colors. But the result is that she looks like she is dressing younger for her age, especially with the flyaway hair.

by Anonymousreply 3September 20, 2023 1:56 PM

See even a house wrecking tramp adulterer can be become queen.

by Anonymousreply 4September 20, 2023 1:56 PM

Brigitte Macron looks fabulous. She may be a cradle-robber, but she knows how to dress for her body type. Very chic.

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2023 1:59 PM

I think Camilla looks great, and that Brigitte's skirt is a few inches too short relative to the length of her jacket. (It might work better if her heels were not so high.)

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2023 2:22 PM

r6 she looks a hot mess. The bitch can't dress.

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2023 2:27 PM

I’m not sure why the royal family is such a big thing here on Datalounge because I don’t know a single person who cares anything about one of them.

R8 I have some Trumpy trailer trash cousins, morbidly obese, angry, etc. and they LOVE everything Royal Family and they HATE Meghan. They repeat so many tabloid rumors and gossip you'd think they were relatives. I ran into them at a family gathering for our Matriarch and I could not get over how invested they are. They even argue among themselves about Katherine and William's three kids' personalities. It is very scary.

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2023 2:34 PM

You can scoff but that shade of pink coordinates beautifully with the blue of Charles’ suit. It’s also very flattering for her complexion.

by Anonymousreply 11September 20, 2023 3:05 PM

I feel like she’s trying to become Elizabeth.

by Anonymousreply 12September 20, 2023 3:07 PM

They both look like homages to dry rot.

by Anonymousreply 13September 20, 2023 3:07 PM

R10 is correct. DL has been overrun in the past 5-6 years by an influx of conservative, foreign and/or not-gay posters. These types love the BRF, despise MM, and display a lot of racism and homophobia in their constant posts. There are also American conservatives here who push the same viewpoint. It's crazy. I've been on DL 20+ years and there was never anything near this level of interest in the BRF before.

by Anonymousreply 14September 20, 2023 3:10 PM

I don’t think it requires far-fetched theories. Harry and Meghan are just fun gossip material and the death of the Queen and the new king have created increased comment.

Usually the least weird explanation is the correct one.

I love Charles speaking French. And he does it well, not all awkward and stumbling. I think Camilla tries too hard sometimes and the result is a bit too much. There are times when she looks stunning and other times when it's gauche. It doesn't work. One of my forever favorites of Camilla is the outfit she wore to get married. It was perfect; appropriate and elegant.

In the link below I have to say June 11, 2023 and November 22, 2022, were the absolute worst IMO. And she should never wear stripes.

Camilla is hoping to see the tunnel, and leave a tribute to Diana. She plans to squat when doing so.

by Anonymousreply 18September 20, 2023 3:51 PM

Same here, R17. Camilla looked perfect at her wedding and I wish she would follow suit with her other outfits. I get the reasoning behind wearing bright colors, i.e., easily seen by the crowd, etc., but it just doesn't work for her in most instances.

by Anonymousreply 19September 20, 2023 3:58 PM

It would suck to be required to be so focused on clothes if you had no interest.

by Anonymousreply 20September 20, 2023 4:00 PM

The French PM in black and pink suit was walking at a pretty fast pace. She couldn't slow it down a bit? Charles and Camilla are in their seventies.

by Anonymousreply 21September 20, 2023 4:06 PM

Meghan and Harry poll terribly with all stripes, not just conservatives. Conversely, William and Kate poll well with all stripes. Meghan and Harry do not manage their brand well, irrespective of Harry's position in the royal family. They are a laughingstock of their own making.

R14, I have been on the DL for at least 15 years and there has always been interest in the royal family. For the longest time there was an ongoing royal thread that discussed the British royals, royals from other countries, royal history and the like. Those threads got shut down when Meghan came along because her fans could not accept even the slightest criticism of her. Similarly, the 'Dangling Tendrils' threads got shut down for the same reason. Now we have 14 million BRF threads as a consequence. If you're looking for someone to blame for the multitude of threads, look no further than those who got the standing threads shut down. Those lunatics could have just scrolled by. And what did it solve? Meghan and Harry descend further and further into ignominy regardless of the lot of you screaming into the wind.

by Anonymousreply 22September 20, 2023 4:10 PM

Camilla is world class homely…

by Anonymousreply 23September 20, 2023 4:10 PM

Is "all stripes" a Britishism? So strange.

by Anonymousreply 24September 20, 2023 4:13 PM

Camilla's 76, R23. She looks fine.

by Anonymousreply 25September 20, 2023 4:15 PM

Hopefully Charles will spare William a lot of aggravation and have it documented in his end of life wishes and instructions that Tungsten is not welcome at his funeral.

No there hasn't, troll. Big events like weddings and scandals, yes, but not multiple threads daily about Kate Middleton like she's someone we care about here. GTFOOH.

by Anonymousreply 27September 20, 2023 4:15 PM

No r25, she’s always been that way. Homely. That’s why the pussy is so good. A face and body like that, you should have some redeeming qualities. And she can’t outshine Charles like Diana did because Charles is so ugly. They deserve one another after all.

As I recall, when Queen Elizabeth was 76, she looked good. I think Camilla should take a lesson from the ER II. Elizabeth II had a basic policy when it came to dressing. She rarely altered her style, and even in formal attire she never startled or surprised. She was elegant. Not a fashion icon, but she had her own style as monarch and it worked. It was consistent but not boring.

by Anonymousreply 30September 20, 2023 4:26 PM

Will also add that Camilla cannot compete with Katherine or even Sophie so she shouldn't try.

by Anonymousreply 31September 20, 2023 4:27 PM

Liz was way easier to look at than Camilla, who is so fug that she makes milk spoil.

by Anonymousreply 32September 20, 2023 4:27 PM

Did you even read my post, R27? I specifically said we had a rolling thread and not the multitude of threads we have today. We have those threads because weirdos such as yourself got the rolling threads shut down. We could go back to those threads if posters such as yourself would fuck off. If you don't care about the BRF, why are you even here? Take your Meghan fan club and create your own thread. Shutting us down is not going to save her plummeting reputation.

That’s a terrible color on Camilla! QE2 knew how to wear color and still be “age appropriate.”

by Anonymousreply 35September 20, 2023 4:32 PM

There are three YouTube channels I watch that are critical of H&M but otherwise feel The Royal Family can do no wrong. (Lady C, The Royal Grift and River). Each of these are VERY conservative (perhaps River a bit less so). TRG gets her digs in at Biden every chance she gets. And Lady C is no friend of ours though I watch her for the camp value she must know she radiates.

by Anonymousreply 36September 20, 2023 4:32 PM

r31 Sophie is a terrible dresser. Just terrible. Arguable the worst in the senior family. Camilla has better looks than Sophie. Sophie looked a fool attending one of the former queen's 100 funeral engagements, wearing a Downton Abbey costume. Telegram, for Miss Hughs!

Leave it too Sophie to some how fuck up something as simple as a black funeral outfit.

The Queen could pull off the hat and coat look outside of England, but Camilla looks fucking ridiculous. She’s sporty and has the lumbering gait of a rugby fullback…she should wear tailored pantsuits with scarves and broaches. Visiting the fashion capital of the world looking like a 1930’s governess is just plain TRASHY.

Camilla looks good in that ice pink color.

Beatrice has made great strides since her marriage compared with her previous looks. She’s changed her makeup too. She’ll never be a classic beauty but she’s making the best of it. I put it all down to her husband’s advice. Fergie has terrible taste.

by Anonymousreply 47September 20, 2023 5:18 PM

Re Camilla’s pink outfit:

The color is off. The purple undertones make it look like a cheap mother of the bride getup.

The shiny lapel— no.

The overall quality of the fabric— looks thin and cheap. Doesn’t drape well.

Camilla could have done pink well, but this ain’t it.

by Anonymousreply 48September 20, 2023 5:24 PM

Camilla looks far better dressed than either Brigitte or the prime minister.

by Anonymousreply 49September 20, 2023 5:34 PM

agree with r48, pink can work well on her, but not in this particular ensemble

by Anonymousreply 50September 20, 2023 5:40 PM

R38. The dress code is not as rigid as it was when Queen Elizabeth was alive but you are not going to see them wearing trouser suits on a state visit. Not is there any need to. Camilla doesn’t looking cutting edge but she looks much better dressed than the prime minister and Brigitte Macron who are trying to look more modern.

by Anonymousreply 51September 20, 2023 5:40 PM

Camilla needs a decent tailor. Her hem and wrist lengths are fine. Her midsection is terrible. I get that they're attempting to provide more room to accommodate her spread, but it only ends up accentuating the area and calling attention to her fallen chest. They need to cinch it up right below her breasts to lift them up and make the waist appear smaller. Either that, or just go full muumuu.

by Anonymousreply 52September 20, 2023 5:46 PM

[quote]Either that, or just go full muumuu.

Camilla got the hairdo in 1975 and has stuck with it ever since.

by Anonymousreply 55September 20, 2023 6:03 PM

It’s a cool pink that goes with her coloring. That’s the important part.

by Anonymousreply 56September 20, 2023 6:07 PM

[quote]Camilla needs a decent tailor. Her hem and wrist lengths are fine. Her midsection is terrible. I get that they're attempting to provide more room to accommodate her spread...

I'm pretty sure that extra cloth in the midsecton is designed to hide her flasks and ciggy cartons...

R24 it’s been an Americanism for many moons…going back to the 1850s

by Anonymousreply 61September 20, 2023 7:11 PM

I think she looks good in the photo at OP. The dress, with the V on top, gives the illusion of a waist. The color looks good pn her, IMO.

by Anonymousreply 62September 20, 2023 7:35 PM

Not a good color on her-that shade of pink doesn't suit her hair color or sallow complexion. Perhaps a "Nancy Reagan" red would suit her better. Don't care for the dress either, does nothing to flatter her less than perfect figure. She might look better in a more tailored looking dress or suit

Charles looks like he'd rather be anywhere else. Let's face it, he's too old and waited too long to become King. He doesn't seem to have the temperament for the job. QEII adored every freakin' minute of it-why do you think she refused to abdicate, especially in the last year or two of her reign when her health began to fail? She adored being queen; it was her whole life. I'm certain she adored Prince Philip in her own way, and by all accounts was very fond of Prince Andrew, who it would seem was her favorite child. But being Queen was most certainly the most important thing in her life.

Don't be surprised if Charles abdicates to William on his 80th birthday (if he makes it that long).

R34-Is that a real picture of Macron or photoshop? If it's real, he looks damn sexy in that picture. Justin has that photo hanging in his bedroom.

by Anonymousreply 63September 20, 2023 8:27 PM

Agree with other comments about Camilla's pink outfit...perhaps she could have done without the hat. She's done without a hay on other occasions, and looks fine when she's simply dressed.

Mrs. Harry Mountbatten-Windsor of Montecito, CA, USA looked good at The Queen's funeral. She also looked good in that green dress at the Invictus Games and when pictured with her husband at the German restaurant. I did not think she looked good in shorts. She has twigs for legs and the shorts looked too big on her frame.

The Princess of Wales always looks smashing. And I find the Prince of Wales to be sexy as hell. He has a hairy chest...Woof!

Sophie dresses appropriately for a woman in her late 50s.

Letizia is the most glamorous royal woman.

Mathilde is lovely.

If you want to have fun with how royal women dress, have a field day with the Dutch on a current, state outing:

by Anonymousreply 65September 20, 2023 9:05 PM

I think Meghan and Harry are perfect DL fodder. Two nobodies that got plopped into a pot of jam. They exist to be mocked and made fun of. And that's part of why we're here. Like making fun of the antics of Patti Lupone. But what makes Megs and Harry so special is that they have no talent of any kind and can do nothing but stumble through life thinking the world of themselves.

by Anonymousreply 66September 20, 2023 9:11 PM

[quote] QEII adored every freakin' minute of it-why do you think she refused to abdicate, especially in the last year or two of her reign when her health began to fail?

There was never even the tiniest chance that QEII would abdicate and join a club whose only other member was her disgraced uncle, who had landed her father with a job which he didn’t want and which almost everyone expected him to be terrible at.

by Anonymousreply 67September 20, 2023 9:13 PM

She looks like she’s going to church. Wearing a bathrobe.

by Anonymousreply 68September 20, 2023 9:15 PM

Even if Edward did not abdicate Elizabeth would have been Queen no matter what. You think he and Simpson were going to have a kid? Even if he had married a younger woman he was impotent.

by Anonymousreply 69September 20, 2023 9:28 PM

She's inveterately frumpy. Just can't help it.

Macron wears a wig now, right?

by Anonymousreply 70September 20, 2023 9:28 PM

I think Camilla looks a bit too much for a day event, there is a wedding vibe to the outfit (some say isthe hat, but i think is the necklace). What i really can’t believe is that some of you are saying that the Queen EII was more attractive than her. From her 40s onwards. Elizabeth looked (and dress) like a middle class woman on her grandson’s wedding day. And she was short and sturdy, bodiwise.

Mme. Macron has one of strangest bodies i remember seeing. And she always look neckless, dont know if it is the hairdo or if she really has no neck. No clothing can disguise this . It would perhaps help if she didn’t alwys look so sullen.

by Anonymousreply 71September 20, 2023 9:32 PM

[quote]It would perhaps help if she didn’t alwys look so sullen.

[quote] Even if Edward did not abdicate Elizabeth would have been Queen no matter what. You think he and Simpson were going to have a kid? Even if he had married a younger woman he was impotent.

Elizabeth’s objection to abdication was not that it made her Queen, but that it made her father king - much against his will - and contributed to his early death. She was never going to let her father down by taking the same action as Edward VIII. For her, as for her father, the line of succession was non-negotiable.

And, with the benefit of hindsight, we can look back now and see that the crown was always going to end up on Elizabeth’s head, but I suspect that was much less of a certainty to people in 1936.

by Anonymousreply 73September 20, 2023 9:51 PM

A tailor could also stitch some paper bags into the collars of her outfits.

It’d do wonders…for us…

Enough with these horse jokes.

by Anonymousreply 77September 20, 2023 10:53 PM

People did not know that Edward was impotent so even if people did not know it was Elizabeth who would rule eventually no matter what. It didn't help that her father smoked like a chimney. He could have lived at least another 20 years and she could have raised a halfway decent family and Philip could have had the career he wanted.

by Anonymousreply 78September 20, 2023 11:04 PM

Both women look awful. Brigitte Macron looks like an aging tramp with a wig and spray tan and ridiculous shoes. She’s like someone’s desperate old aunt who thinks she looks great, but everyone else is thinking is, “Fuck, I hope I don’t have to help deal with it if that glass-boned old broad falls off those shoes and breaks a hip.”

Camilla is wearing way, WAY too much pink. It’s not a bad color on her and might work if she had the figure to pull off an outfit with less material. But the huge amount of poorly tailored cheap/looking pink material is awful. It looks like something someone’s great grandmother would wear to a wedding in Ohio. In 1983. The comments about her needing her boobs hitched up and her waist cinched in are spot on.

If she wants to be comfortable she should wear a darker neutral suit or dress and a bright blouse or scarf. Or buck up and wear a girdle and industrial strength bra and a tailored pink dress. But not that.

R6 I suspect that whoever fitted Brigitte for that skirt when a tad higher to accommodate her stride. She takes a fairly large step for a person her size. A longer skirt would have made that awkward. In this case, form follows function.

by Anonymousreply 118September 21, 2023 1:11 PM

r63 there has never been a statement made by the queen that indicated she enjoyed or even came close to adoring her job as queen. When asked by like children or something if she liked her job she always dodged the answer. She had some fun with the job but anyone that's followed her can tell it's not a position she would have chosen.

She just accepted her fait and got on with the whole thing. Same way many many women from her era and before just accept the fait of marriages that might have been less than ideal. When there are no other options you either fight it, mentally/emotionally shut down, or make the best of your lot in life. Elizabeth was a very good leader because she made a decision to accept her lot in life and publicly leaned into the job.

But, I've always gotten the sense that if given a choice of queen or freedom, she would do it all over again and just be a free normal (wealthy) aristocrat with horses in the country.

Slightly off topic-I'm sure it's been discussed on DL several times before, but what is the real reason Charles and Camilla didn't marry in the first place? Was it something to do with the fact that she wasn't a "virgin"? Was there really something in their "Constitution" or whatever their equivalent that stated the heir to the throne must marry a virgin? In 1981 (sorry forgot the exact year they married), was there a virginity test?

I may be totally off base, but I could swear I read somewhere that the BRF disapproved of Camilla because she had a bit of a "reputation".

No matter what we think of either of them, by all accounts they do seem to "love"(that word can mean so many different things to different people), or at care for each other a great deal

Look, we now know that Diana was a very disturbed woman with severe emotional problems, but I don't think it's a huge stretch that many of her mental issues came from Charles and Camilla's relationship during their marriage. What was she 19 when they were married? Perhaps they're a little more sophisticated and mature in England, but still I think 19 is/was way too young to take on that very public royal life, especially being married to a man who never loved you and openly carries on with his former lover.

Just out of morbid curiosity, what would have happened if Diana hadn't tragically died in that horrible (and yes, totally avoidable) accident? Would Charles and Camilla havebeen allowed to marry in the COE? Is there such a thing as an annulment like in the Catholic Church? Would they have married in Scotland like Princess Anne did when she remarried? Would Charles and Camilla not have gotten married? Is it conceivable that they could have lived together without marrying? Would the British public ever have accepted that?

Please forgive my ignorance, but way off topic, is gay marriage legal in England? If so, is it recognized by the COE? Can it be performed by an Episcopal Priest? I know Elton John is married, did he marry in England?

Charles has the ugliest sausage fingers. And they are always red.

by Anonymousreply 127September 21, 2023 2:54 PM

As I recall, R126, Charles wanted to marry her but she was in an on again off again with Tom Parker Bowles. And she wasn't quite ready. v The set Charles socialized with were the upper class nobility but they were a partying and polo crowd. His family was concerned that his social set would not reflect well on the future monarch. Meanwhile Uncle Dickie Mountbatten and his Grandmother, both of whom he was close to encouraged him to wait. He had to go into military service, and while he was gone, Camilla and Tom finally agreed to marry. Charles was devastated and eventually resigned himself to making the best of the situation and finding a suitable girl for the good of the RF.

R128, I’ve read that Charles was the one who was dithering—totally in character—because she wasn’t as pure as driven snow and he didn’t want to force the issue with his parents. Then he went off on a long navy tour and she married Parker Bowles. Although even back then, women were fine with dating him but had no interest in becoming queen. Also Mountbatten was pushing one of his daughters as a suitable match (she wasn’t interested either).

William could be fluent in several languages if the family had hired native speakers, such as nannies, to speak with him when he was a child. It’s not as if there was any doubt that his future involved international relations. Being trained from an early age in foreign languages would seem to be one of the advantages of a hereditary head of state.

by Anonymousreply 149September 21, 2023 5:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 150September 21, 2023 6:20 PM

Charles and Diana both made an effort to learn Welsh, and William and Harry used the surname Wales while serving in the military. It is pretty shocking William is only now making an effort to learn the language.

Truth be told, the title Prince of Wales was always intended to remind the Welsh they were firmly under the boot of the English. Maybe it’s time to retire the title once and for all.

by Anonymousreply 159September 21, 2023 9:36 PM

From what I've read, William has developed an interest in learning languages and he speaks French, and is learning Welsh. Harry has said publicly, he has tried and found it difficult to master foreign languages, but he tries to show respect by fumbling through. He joked about it when he was in Germany. He said a few sentences of German, and admitted he was very poor at it.

Honestly, would any reasonably handsome, extremely successful and self-confident straight man marry that elderly, unattractive bag of bones? Was she very wealthy? Did he marry her for her money? We're not exactly talking Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky here.

I mean there are several gorgeous, well-preserved older women whom straight men might find sexually attractive, but I can't bring myself to believe that she's one of them.

And unlike actual Welsh people, William is the only person on those isles, not names Charles or George, that would have a chance to become the prince of the Wales.

It shows a lack of dedication to their job and role. William is as lazy.

If Anne and her brood had been the heirs, trust me she and her son would be fluent in Welsh.

by Anonymousreply 192September 22, 2023 12:22 AM

If the evils of colonialism were the cause if the demise of the Welsh language, then it would have died out much earlier than it did. Welsh survived as the majority language in Wales for 600 years after the conquest by Edward I, until the beginning of the 20th century, and it can be argued that modern mass media was to blame for its decline.

As radio, cinema and television became widespread, Wales happily consumed the media which came from England (which has a population 16 times that of Wales) the influence of English just drowned out Welsh.

21 posts since R172 and no one has challenged his statement about William and Harry's "far more beautiful and interesting spouses"? Specifically regarding the Duchess of Montecito. In what solar system would she be considered beautiful, or even interesting for that matter? She's average looking at best, due to a ton of plastic surgery, professionally done make up and hair, and wildly expensive designer clothes she could never have afforded on her totally mediocre career as a D-minus list actress.

Interesting? The only and I stress only reason she is of any interest to anyone on the planet, is because of whom she is married to.

I must confess I really don't find Kate "beautiful". Yes, she is stunningly attractive, and does give off a somewhat "regal bearing", but I don't really find her to be "beautiful". Again, the hair make up and elegantly tailored designer clothes complete the package. As for interesting, I can honestly say I've never heard her utter a complete sentence, so I have no idea of the level of her intelligence and/or sophistication.

Now the dresses Camilla is wearing for her daytime appearances have been just fine. I was watching a video of her walking down a long walkway, under an arch and then crossing over to shake hands with tourists, and her gait is odd. It looks like she has to make an effort to put one foot in front of the other. Now I haven't noticed her shakes during this visit, but her gait is definitely indicative of some kind of problem. I have to wonder again about Parkinson's or maybe a very light stroke. I think these outings are tiring for her. She will disappear from view after the get back home and take several days off to rest.

R197, it has been reported that she has a bad back. Both her mother and grandmother suffered from osteoporosis. Either of these things would make it very difficult to cope with state visits, with constant travel, photo opps, walking. This visit to France apparently involves 22 different events over 3 days, which would be a lot even for the healthiest 76 year-old.

I’ve thought that she looks far more confident on this trip than she did at the Coronation, where she looked simply terrified throughout. I wonder whether her walking/shaking issues are simply nerves. Charles has had a lifetime at the centre of attention, but Camilla, even when a member of the Royal Family, seemed content to recede into the background. She can’t do that anymore: on a State occasion all eyes are on her, waiting for the slightest faux pas. I’d be terrified too!

Why did you expect this? This isn't a frivolous question. Why would elderly British royals who haven't used any French regularly outside of secondary or finishing school nearly six decades ago be expected to perform like elocution parrots? Do other Heads of State do the same while visiting Britain? Or the U.S., for that matter.

William probably knows better Welsh than Catherine Zeta Jones.

by Anonymousreply 208September 22, 2023 6:32 AM

William speaks French. Probably not fluently but he can get by for sure.

As for the King speaking bad French? Non. The French was impeccable. But he speaks French with an English accent - duh!

People get SO pissed when I say that Diana was actually the side chick. Despite being married to him, Camilia was there before, during, and after. That ain't no side chick.

by Anonymousreply 210September 22, 2023 10:24 AM

R204. Was Charles’ French pronunciation actually wrong.? It didn’t seem so to me, but I’m not native. He does have a very heavy English accent.

How many elected heads of state speak any French these days?

How many languages is Charles required to know?

by Anonymousreply 211September 22, 2023 10:32 AM

It’s hard to truly judge how well Charles speaks French, because his speeches are well written and practiced so that his grammar and vocabulary seem to be excellent. However, his pronunciation is typical of an Englishman of his age and background: he uses the correct words, but he never really attempts to hide his own accent by mimicking a native French accent. Fortunately, many French people are charmed by this.

It’s clear that Charles speaks French at least as well as Macron speaks English. Like Charles speaking French, Macron when speaking English has excellent vocabulary and grammar, but his French accent comes through very strongly.

I do wonder whether men of their status feel that it is beneath their dignity to sound as if they are trying too hard. Former UK PM Ted Heath took the same approach: his knowledge of French was extensive, but he spoke every word in an upper-class English accent (even though he was middle-class).

When she died, Diana was 40 years younger than Camilla is now. There's no point comparing Camilla at 76 with Diana.

[quote] People get SO pissed when I say that Diana was actually the side chick. Despite being married to him, Camilia was there before, during, and after. That ain't no side chick.

And this is why I think Charles’ behavior was unforgivable, even if Diana was a nut. She was a teenager and he and the BRF took away her opportunity to have a life and family with a man who was a partner to her. If Diana had been 30, fine.

I don’t think Diana is a great example of wearing leopard well at r216. She looks good, but those colors don’t suit a pink complexion that well.

R222. Where is his security?!!!

by Anonymousreply 224September 22, 2023 2:10 PM

Technically, Camilla was a side piece, too, as Charles had another woman he saw with apparent equal frequency for quite some time. The Charles-Camilla love story is a PR fairy tale. Camilla wanted Parker-Bowles (as did everyone at that time) and used Charles to bait P-B. It worked. Eventually they amicably led separate romantic lives. P-B supposedly only filed for divorce when Camilla's relationship with Charles became public. He was said to otherwise not care before the affair was outed as he had several dalliances of his own. Charles and Camilla eventually married, but for varied reasons that had less to do with love, "whatever love means".

by Anonymousreply 225September 22, 2023 2:18 PM

Interesting post, R225. And it accords with what I've read, too. Do you mean Kanga Tryon? There was also the German Eva O'Neill (now mother-in-law of Princess Madeleine of Sweden). Perhaps Charles brushed up on his German with Eva.

by Anonymousreply 226September 22, 2023 2:28 PM

Charles dated several women, and the media hype to present one or another as "serious" was in overdrive, but they weren't even close to being serious. Camilla was ever present in his life, and while it may be true that when she was a young woman, she first used Charles to get PB to make his move, that changed over time. She was very much attracted to Charles, but Camilla never expected to marry Charles because it went against Royal tradition and history. She thought she'd forever be his mistress, but it clearly was more than that because he made her the fucking Queen. So IMO I kind of agree with the poster who said Camilla was always his main lady.

by Anonymousreply 227September 22, 2023 2:39 PM

r55, if people (especially women) are stuck with a specific hairstyle/makeup/clothing, it usually denotes that they subconsciously think those were their glory years.

by Anonymousreply 228September 22, 2023 3:24 PM

You know, there's something to be said for Queen Elizabeth's image. She was never a fashionista. Never worried about what was the newest look. She was the Queen. She had her own distinctive style and it was unchanging. And she always looked very nice. I think now that she is queen Camilla needs to find a stylist to work with who can give her her own distinctive look and not concern herself with fashion. That Pepto Bismo Barbie Pink coat dress would be consigned to the trash heap.

by Anonymousreply 246September 22, 2023 4:31 PM

r241 side chicks can last decades. Hell, Charles and Diana were married for a decade so fuck off with your attempts to come for me. Diana is the wife. The wife is no side chick, no matter how Charles saw his women.

by Anonymousreply 247September 22, 2023 4:31 PM

r245 actually, Charles and Liz were able to choose their own partners, unlike most of their ancestors. Liz knew the assignment and let Phillip fill her naive little head with thoughts of love. Phillip was a gold digger if we are being honest. A broke gold digger. Liz accepted and married him quick.

Charles took the more modern approach by waiting but he ended up wasting his 20s. He should have had this held down or a stand by girl ready to go, like William with Kate. Charles was only "forced" because he was taking way too long to make up his mind. But, he brought Diana into the family fold for review at Balmoral. He pushed Diana forward as a viable option, not his family. The family like and accepted her; the rest was history.

If Charles wasn't interested in using Diana as an option, she wouldn't have ever been invited to Balmoral for review. She's the only woman Charles ever invited back then so this is 90% on Charles.

by Anonymousreply 248September 22, 2023 4:37 PM

R248 Phillip was not the first Royal with fantastic bloodlines and great ancestors, but not a dime to his name. And as I think about it, Wasn't Prince Albert a "lesser" broke noble when he married Queen Victoria? Phillip had a hard time at first. THe Queen Mother and most of the Royals of her circle called him "The Greek" . But who wouldn't fall for him. He was gloriously handsome to young Elizabeth. Elizabeth was not a "shopper." She found what she adored and that was it.

by Anonymousreply 249September 22, 2023 4:43 PM

When your wife is Queen, of course you're "marrying up."

by Anonymousreply 250September 22, 2023 4:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 251September 22, 2023 4:47 PM

Grrr. I meant *now* going.

by Anonymousreply 252September 22, 2023 4:48 PM

This state visit was originally scheduled for the spring, which is why I expect the Barbie pink was selected.

I think Charles and Camilla had a genuine connection when they dated as twenty-somethings, but when you’re young and it’s your first serious relationship, you don’t always realize that someone is truly “the one.” It easier to move on and think you’ll find something similar with a new person down the road. It’s only when you’re older, you realize those feelings truly are special. That’s what I think happened with Charles and Camilla.

by Anonymousreply 253September 22, 2023 5:30 PM

Charles' hand was not forced. Philip merely told him to make a choice - yay or nay - because the media interest in Diana was building to a frenzy.

Charles ensured Camilla was made Queen because Camilla is an extension of him and any perceived slight against Camilla is viewed as one against him. I am not saying that they do not have love or companionship or friendship between them. Merely, the 'one true love' story is a PR concoction for the unwashed masses. Marrying Charles was the best decision for Camilla, all things considered (financial straits after divorce, age, media interest). Purely from the perspective of his role, Charles would have done better to find someone else. Camilla is forever a reminder of Diana and all that baggage. Question is, who in his circles would want to be his wife with all the responsibilities it entails? Camilla is said to comfort him and smooth over his more persnickety traits, so perhaps she ended up being the best choice?

by Anonymousreply 254September 22, 2023 5:45 PM

R254, Charles hand was indeed forced. He was pressured by everyone to drop Camilla, who, back then never dreamed she'd ever be anything more than a mistress, and find someone suitable. He didn't stand up to them because Camilla was married by then. Once he decided on Diana, the pressure was off. he thought he could pull it off, to have the traditional wife, and the mistress, but Diana was not compliant. She wanted to be the fairytale princess who married the prince, lived in a castle and happily ever after.Emotionally unstable, and immature, and entirely too young to handle a 30 yr old husband who would be king, and who was clearly not in love with her, not even friends.

by Anonymousreply 255September 22, 2023 6:21 PM

*"gives herself a few WWs", obviously!

by Anonymousreply 262September 22, 2023 8:32 PM

r249 yes, Phillip and Albert were in similar boats. Both men saw the dollar signs, easy living, and prestige of being married to the world's most powerful queens. Prince Albert's family was at least a part of a reigning house. They weren't the wealthiest and as the second oldest son, he was on a tighter budget, but at least they retained their principality.

Phillip's family was tossed out of Greece. Sure, he retained his princely titles from the Danish royal house, but unlike Albert, he was a nomad.

Put another way, Albert had a German roof over his head and lands he could always call home (he was close with his older brother). Philip, didn't have such luxuries. Hence, his uncle worked extra hard to pimp him out to simple minded Liz. He was hot, blond, tall, and looked good in a uniform, so it wasn't l all that hard to sell him to a sheltered horny teenager.

Albert did the same, but was in a lot better position in life then Phillip.

by Anonymousreply 263September 22, 2023 9:39 PM

r255 you're not making sense. He wasn't forced to drop Camilla, the bitch dropped him for Andrew. She decided to put the PoW on mute and marry her fugly country buddy. She chose to have her cake and eat it too. So, if the object of your desire is married, 90% of folks move the hell on to the millions of single women who would kill to marry a prince. But since Charles is a man-baby, he decides to just give in while talking to a legitimate teenager.

Then this 30 year old man is shocked that this girl who didn't get to enjoy her 20s or develop a sense of identity before their brief marriage and courtship, suddenly shows her personality and it clashes. Yeah, a 20 something doesn't care to be around old intellectuals, horses, or whatever boring things Charles gets up to. They would have already known this if the man had properly vetted her.

If anyone was forced into that marriage it was Diana. Her family were not going to let that opportunity pass. She was only a teenager with loads of powerful adults pushing her to move forward even after some red flags started to show before the wedding.

by Anonymousreply 264September 22, 2023 9:47 PM

Someone at Dior thought dressing the Queen was more consistent with their moth eaten image. Not saying they should have gone with MM, but I am saying if there was a trade off for Camilla, they got the short end.

by Anonymousreply 276September 23, 2023 2:08 PM

Yeah, r276, it's really the short end to dress the Queen of one of France's major allies at a state dinner hosted by the President and attended by dozens of dignitaries and luminaries. Dior should have held out for MM, who makes pretty much everything she wears look trashy and who is utterly clueless about appropriate deportment and demeanour. What's the value of a major diplomatic event such as a state visit when you could have MM grinning and waving wildly and crumpling whatever she's wearing.

by Anonymousreply 277September 23, 2023 2:46 PM

It should also be mentioned that a major French couture fashion house dressing the Queen of the United Kingdom at a state banquet also has the symbolic meaning of underlining the importance and value of close relations between Britain and France.

But yes, she seems easy to get along with and her issues of literacy, books libraries, etc. are worthy neutral causes. She also seems to connect well with children and members of the public. I can see her winning people over but it will take time. I bet in two or three years Charles wil be complaining about the attention Camilla gets. He wants people to like him best.

r305 Charles only "won" against the grey suits because unlike everyone else he was about to be their boss. Prince Charles was in a different league than everyone else in the family. Same with William right now. They knew Charles was going to marry Camilla so they decided to just work on a long-term PR campaign to make her palatable by the time she took the crown. Charles didn't do anything more interesting then Andrew would have done. He threw fits like a toddler until Mommy gave in.

[quote] They are repugnant individuals whose selfishness led directly to Diana’s implosion.

Diana’s marriage was a catastrophe which should ever have happened, but Diana’s implosion began in childhood with her own parents’ disastrous marriage.

She grew up seeing her father hit her mother, and then felt deserted when her mother left the family home for another man. After her own mother’s mother testified against her, Earl Spencer was granted custody of his children. This left Diana without her mother and in the care of a man who at best could be described as volatile. She grew up feeling a sense of detachment from her mother and with a strong urge to be compliant to appease her father. She carried this on into her relationships with other men (and even with the public) throughout her life, developing a chameleon-like talent for fitting in to please those around her. This meant that she appeared like the ideal wife for Charles: she seemed to share his interests, tastes and opinions. In reality, they were incredibly different people and neither of them had a clue who they were really marrying. Charles thought he was marrying the ideal bride who knew what she was marrying into, and Diana thought she was marrying a besotted Prince Charming.

The Royal Family was a disastrous environment for Diana to marry into, but her own issues were a big part of the problem too. Her own family relationships were fractured throughout her life. Right up to her death, she was continually feuding with her mother, grandmother and siblings.

I would have thought that the webmaster had access to data that would show unusual posting patterns and maybe even unusual WW patterns (FFs are limited which means that there is some monitoring there, so why not WWs?) The Royal GIF and Meme Troll should obviously be caught in the net of such systems.

It's just a bit irritating as the paltry FF allowance means the site can't be user-moderated, and blocking doesn't really work as other users will continue to see and engage with it. That's how it colonises the thread, like a pathogen.

'It's cling wrap dear.' Maybe apocryphal as his mother loved Tupperware. I wonder if she bought it at one of the parties women used to have.

After hunting for the day when he came back to the lodge he wanted poached eggs. They had to be ready the moment he came back. Before cell phones who knew when that would be except for a general time. So they would have to keep making them and throwing them out until he arrived. He has a strange idea of conservation.

I've gotta give it to William, Prince of Wales.

I respect that, apparently, he's decided, "Fuck it. I'm the Prince of Wales, and, one day, King. I'm going bald. So be it. I'm not bothering with hair plugs."

Good for him.

Of course, his position, status, money, being 6 '2' and in superb physical condition help him not to have to bother. Having a real or fake head of hair isn't a required part of the job as it is for, say, a leading actor/movie star (unless you're Denzel Washington) or celebrity earning a living being a celebrity.

I also surmise that William knows the ridicule he'd come in for if he tried to fight his baldness with plugs, toupees, the latest whatever.

He just doesn't have to bother with it.

by Anonymousreply 369September 26, 2023 3:38 PM

The late Queen was admired even by those who had little interest in the monarchy. Much of this was down to her absolute public silence. She understood her role and played it perfectly. Charles has been whinging and complaining all his life, and his messy private life means we know a little too much about him to respect him.

by Anonymousreply 370September 26, 2023 5:03 PM

r369 you could have said the same thing for all of the Windsors. William, Harry, Charles, Liz, Andrew, the York Sisters, Zarah, and Peter, have never said anything remotely thought provoking.

Anne’s kids get a pass since they’ve always been something more “private” citizens. But all of the senior royals sound like dumb hillbillies capable of reading from scripts, and have posh British accents.

What they say off the cuff makes me question this superior bloodline. Hell, if my job was to smile, waive, read speeches, go on vacation, and shop, I’d turn my brain off as well.

by Anonymousreply 371September 26, 2023 5:07 PM

I’m forgot to add Anne and Edward. Sorry for forgetting Some of the fringe members.

by Anonymousreply 372September 26, 2023 5:09 PM

There is some truth to what r370 said here. Charles has taken a lot of the mystery out of the BRF and being royal in general.

Thankfully William and Kate have made QEII their role model, and have based their outlook on their roles on her standards.

by Anonymousreply 373September 26, 2023 5:57 PM

R371. Are you American? The idea of the British monarchy is precisely not to be thought-provoking. And the family rules by act of parliament. Only a handful of people (Harry and Meghan among them), believe in the superiority of royal blood these days. There is no expectation that the family members display innate superiority in intellect, etc.

One of the reasons the monarchy endures is that it provides a non-partisan head of state when it functions at its best. The last thing the family members should be doing is to make thought-provoking statements. It is doubtful that any of the current members of the royal family are geniuses, but their genius would be wasted in the role anyway. What the role requires is steadfastness and a minimum level of intelligence.

Anne's children are not evaluated at all because they have no official role at all in the institution.

by Anonymousreply 374September 26, 2023 6:41 PM

R374 And they seem the healthiest in the bunch.

What about the cousins, and the distant royals destined to live at the Aunt Heap? Princess Michael? Princess Alexandra? Freddie Windsor?

by Anonymousreply 375September 26, 2023 6:58 PM

r375 Prince and Princess Michael are some of the last cousins allowed to live at the "Aunt Heap" courtesy of the King. The practice of providing palace housing for all kinds of distant relatives ended decades ago, and came to a firm end with QEII's passing. And even Prince Michael, I believe, has to pay some kind of market rate rent to continue to live at KP - perhaps King Charles "subsidizes" this out of his own funds, but they are not living there on the taxpayer's dime.

Their children will have their own homes. It's questionable whether Beatrice and Eugenie will even be allowed to live at any royal palace or at Windsor, at market rate or not. They are probably going to be expected to purchase or rent their own homes like everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 376September 26, 2023 7:21 PM

'What the role requires is steadfastness and a minimum level of intelligence.'

Which is not even met.

by Anonymousreply 377September 26, 2023 7:41 PM

r374 please stop pretending the monarch is why the UK continues to exist. That’s just the lie the government pushes so that you all can be distracted.

If that’s true, then you’ll have to explain why so many republics continue to exist. You’ll have to explain why the English continued to have a functional government between the reign of Charles I and Charles II.

Having a monarchy is a nice cultural point but I don’t think Liz Windsor or Charlie Windsor, or William Windsor are the glue holding your nation together. Especially with so many youthful people becoming increasingly indifferent to the monarchy while retaining a strong ties to Britain.

A lot of the BS you guys spew about royals is just bedtime storybook type of PR. Nothing more, noting less. Your PMs would still be good, bad, or great with out without a monarch.

by Anonymousreply 378September 26, 2023 8:56 PM

[quote]please stop pretending the monarch is why the UK continues to exist.

^ Where did R374 say this?

by Anonymousreply 379September 26, 2023 9:08 PM

R374. I think your reply referenced my post by accident. I struggle to find where I talk about the monarch being responsible for the UK's existence or it being the glue that holds the country together. You either imagined this argument or read someone else's post. Or perhaps you don't know much about the British constitution you just assumed this was an argument I would make and wanted to attack it.

Although you are responding to someone else's post, I will point out.

1. There are some deeply ignorant people in the UK, as in any country, but it is generally known that many, in fact, most countries do not have monarchs. The retention of the monarchy has never rested on a policy of keeping people in the dark about the existence of republics. Again, I think you need to familiarize yourself a bit more about the British monarchy and the British view of it in at least a rudimentary sense since ignorance of republics is not a prominent pillar of support for the monarchy.

2. The 17th century interregnum is not a period when things were going really great. There are probably better examples of king-less societies you could cite than that one.

3. Again, because you are perhaps American, you are not very aware of any system but your own. A combined head of state and head of government is not really a part of the debate about the monarchy in the UK. It is generally assumed that the replacement for the king would be an elected head of state, not the prime minister. Parliamentary systems rarely if I ever have the prime minister also function as head of state. The proposal would seem bizarre to most residents of parliamentary democracy. Nor is there much indication that most British prime ministers would relish taking over the ceremonial duties of the monarch in addition to their governmental responsibilities. No one thinks the king improves the prime minister. People do think the king performs functions the prime minister doesn't perform in the UK or in any other parliamentary democracy I know of.

Your arguments are typical of Americans, a certain significant percentage of whom do have a fairy tale view of the monarchy and then criticize British people for having a fairy tale view. I can assure you the kinds of deep misunderstandings you have about the monarchy and parliamentary democracies are not widespread in the UK. They are much more prevalent among Americans. 3.

by Anonymousreply 380September 26, 2023 9:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 381September 26, 2023 10:11 PM

If the monarch were removed, the "United Kingdom..." might become the "United Republic..." or more likely just revert to "Great Britain", thereby removing the official reference to Northern Ireland, like they've done to Wales for centuries. I can't see Northern Ireland thinking it's worth the EU trouble to stay attached and that would also likely accelerate Scotland's independence movement, leaving merry old "England" (and Wales) once more.

Why are you here R410? Does that not apply to all the "celebrities" posted about on a gay gossip site. What part of that did you miss? Or are you just a sanctimonious dolt stating the obvious?

by Anonymousreply 411September 30, 2023 2:06 PM

Any thread on Datalounge has the potential to be hijacked by the Harry/Meghan haters. They’re so obsessed with them they can’t help themselves.

by Anonymousreply 412September 30, 2023 3:14 PM

Don't forget the Meghistans. Both groups van be annoying.

by Anonymousreply 413September 30, 2023 3:54 PM

The 'stans are dumb as hell. They seem shocked that people are interested in the BRF.

by Anonymousreply 414September 30, 2023 4:00 PM

M and H’s kids? They have an Aunt Kate and an Aunt Samantha. On paper any way.

by Anonymousreply 416September 30, 2023 5:27 PM

R410 (yes, this fucking thread has hundreds of responses) has restored my faith in humanity.

I enjoy gossip as much as the next person, but some of you are so emotionally invested in the Windsors, you have no idea how insane you come across. Jesus Christ, go outside…touch grass.

by Anonymousreply 417September 30, 2023 6:54 PM

ROTA is shilling the Palace line that Katy is not going with her beloved "hubby" to Singapore because she must spend time with her children. Of course saying Willy can't stand the site of old vomit breath would be a bit too spot on.

The royal family exists to be made fun of for DLers in fact for everyone. I think some of you have found yourselves on the wrong site. If you take the monarchy so seriously you might want to write them fan letters.

by Anonymousreply 420October 1, 2023 1:48 AM

R420 you’re obviously slightly unhinged but on what planet do you live where it’s possible to travel from London to Singapore, stay for a couple of days then travel back in two days?

Why do you hate her so much?

by Anonymousreply 421October 1, 2023 1:52 AM

One thing is for sure, Sir Elton John is NOT going to be writing a special song when this endlessly fascinating horse goes to the big glue factory in the sky.

by Anonymousreply 422October 1, 2023 1:57 AM

Special song? He just repurposed Candle in the Wind and got an assload. of money on the back of it.

by Anonymousreply 423October 1, 2023 2:18 AM

I was responding to R410 and R417. I had no idea Kate went to Singapore. I hadn't read that post. I certainly don't hate Kate. But I find people like King Charles and Harry and Meghan sources of endless mockery merriment as one used to say. And one today can mock the whole idea of a monarchy much as one can mock organized religion.

by Anonymousreply 424October 1, 2023 2:35 AM

Monarchy is nothing like organised religion. It’s just one approach to choosing a ceremonial head of state.

Fascinating how one histrionic Sussex stan can be so schizophrenic over William and Kates parenting style in the space of just 2 hours. That's menopause in the overweight for you I guess . Sorry they're not willing to demonstrate their parental love by dumping the kids on a random passing maid to fly uninvited to Germany like certain caring mothers.

by Anonymousreply 430October 1, 2023 1:49 PM

Insiders? HA! Royal speculators and tin hat conspiracy theorists. If Meghan or Kate wears her hair a certain way, they know what they’re thinking or what message they’re sending. It’s all so much bullshit…fringe dwellers the lot of them.

by Anonymousreply 431October 1, 2023 2:17 PM

R528. I don’t live in a country in which King Charles is a head of state. I don’t know how you would think that I am.

by Anonymousreply 436October 2, 2023 3:28 PM

Gordonstoun is 450 miles from London. George will be in Eton, with his parents a ten-minute drive away.

by Anonymousreply 437October 2, 2023 3:34 PM

That’s assuming that Prince George is accepted into Eton. He could well be accepted into Marlborough, which his mother attended, and which is co-educational.

by Anonymousreply 438October 2, 2023 3:44 PM

I can definitely see sending kids off to boarding school when they become teenagers. Say 13-14. They're all insufferable then. But 10-12 seems a bit too young.

R434. What god-ordained monarchy are referring to? This thread is about the British monarchy. You are very wrong

by Anonymousreply 441October 2, 2023 5:37 PM

Nope, R441, It's historically referred to as the Divine Right of kings. All very archaic in this day. The British Monarch has their coronation in church. It is a religious ceremony. They are ordained by God. That is the belief. And the monarch is the head of the Church of England.

by Anonymousreply 442October 2, 2023 5:47 PM

Nope. You’re American, right? I assume if you were British you would not have such a deeply outdated and inaccurate understanding of the monarchy. British monarchs have not ruled by divine right since the 17th century. The right to the throne is established by act of parliament. We all know the king is crowned, head of Church of England etc You don’t need to tell us. You need us to inform you.

Many of the things you think are silly about the British monarchy exist only in your uninformed kind.

by Anonymousreply 443October 2, 2023 6:00 PM

R442, the idea of the Divine Right of Kings has not existed in any political sense in Great Britain at least since the government asserted its right to pass the Act of Succession. If it wanted to, parliament could sack every member of the House of Windsor tomorrow, and make the winner of Britain’s Got Talent our monarch.

The last British person to believe in the Divine Right was Charles I, and God did not elect to save him.

by Anonymousreply 444October 2, 2023 6:08 PM

I see the R434’s totally ubresearched, grotesquely incorrect statement (made after he was already informed he was totally wrong) has gotten five wws. Proof yet again that many of the people on the royal threads are Americans who profess to be bored and annoyed by the monarchy but also consider themselves world-leading experts on the topic.

by Anonymousreply 445October 2, 2023 7:28 PM

I saw it on The Crown. Queen Mary the Dowager explained it. It's old and yes not since the 1600s maybe, but nevertheless.

by Anonymousreply 446October 2, 2023 7:28 PM

R442, this is quite funny. - You make a statement (that monarchs rule by Divine Right) which no-one has believed since circa 1650, and then you criticise it as archaic! Comedy gold! Is it intentional?

Such immaturity and ignorance in this thread.

I find monarchy to be inherently ridiculous, too, but the people of the UK haven't abolished it because, apparently, for them, the BRF serve a public purpose.

And really? That tampax thing? I never gave that a thought and never listened to it. The only reason I know of it is because it was a headline.

I'm just damn glad my conversations haven't been recorded.

And no, you juvenile sophomores, posting those last posts. I don't argue that they shouldn't be ridiculed. They're public figures. That comes with the territory.

It's just that when I see the BRF in pix and on duty I see it for what it is : plain old hard work. Anybody who doesn't think that it's mental, emotional and physical labor to be ON for whatever it is they have to be on for, is just flat wrong.

And you better look and sound damn good, too, while you're at a public event, because there are cellphones, taping devices , cameras and photoshop recording every facial tic and syllable that comes out of your mouth.

I wouldn't trade my anonymous life among the poor and obscure for theirs, no way, no how. I'd take the money, though.

One thing I discovered. Charles is an informed monarch. And so are those who are serving now. The Wales, and Sophie and Edward have made it their business to get informed about the charities or localities they visit. Not just a one or two page briefing. But a real understanding of the work the charities are doing. I think Camilla does too. That's a good thing. The last generation didn't do that.

by Anonymousreply 462October 3, 2023 10:21 PM

You don’t think prince Philip knew anything about his charities?

R463 I think the Royals, including Phillip, Margaret, etc. The Queen knew broad strokes and of course they were there for decades. Can't help but absorb stuff too. But What I mean is that it seems like Charles and William and Katherine, Sophie and Edward really drill down and try to grasp and understand details that the previous generation weren't that interested in.
