I like the theme music too.

by Anonymousreply 1September 20, 2023 10:09 AM

Jon-Erik Hexum!

by Anonymousreply 2September 20, 2023 10:12 AM

Kay Lenz looks like shit.

by Anonymousreply 3September 20, 2023 10:14 AM

OMG Tori Spelling as a child.

by Anonymousreply 4September 20, 2023 10:16 AM

Shelley Winters doesn't look happy.

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2023 10:18 AM

Shelley was the very personification of resting bitch face.

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2023 10:20 AM

Scott Baio before he became a raging Trumptard.

All the women have the same nosejob.

Tori Spelling is hideous.

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2023 10:33 AM

Why were the women made to look so ugly on that show?

by Anonymousreply 8September 20, 2023 11:19 AM

Henry Mancini's theme reminds me of the music in Mommie Dearest.

by Anonymousreply 9September 20, 2023 12:54 PM

Who is the biggest star - Eleanor Parker?

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2023 12:56 PM

Anne Jeffreys still looking good.

by Anonymousreply 11September 20, 2023 1:02 PM

Barbara Parkins looks like Cher - when Cher looked human.

by Anonymousreply 12September 20, 2023 1:04 PM

A veritable plethora of :

DL Faves

Has-Beens

"Stop Trying to Make ___ Happen"s

by Anonymousreply 13September 20, 2023 2:46 PM

I'd forgotten about this show. The Love Boat on land. WHET to Connie Selleca?

by Anonymousreply 14September 20, 2023 3:21 PM

Fun to see all the soap stars who guested. Jim Houghton from Y&R was so cute, and never got a decent role. Barbara Parkins was a huge ABC star from the 60's and Peyton Place, another who never got a 2nd good long running role.

by Anonymousreply 15September 20, 2023 3:37 PM

James Houghton was a regular on Knots Landing for several years.

by Anonymousreply 16September 20, 2023 3:38 PM

Good lord, Donna Pescow looks like her hair was done at a dog grooming salon.

by Anonymousreply 17September 20, 2023 3:43 PM

Richard Hatch and Larry Wilcox looked a lot hotter than I remember.

by Anonymousreply 18September 20, 2023 4:00 PM

Hello, Phillip Ciocclietti (or however that was spelled).

Nanette Fabray will always remind me of the thread I started about Monkeys that Look Like Nanette Fabray! LOL

Boyd Gaines looking good.

And Uncle Greg! I can handle the socks.

Gary Frank looks hot without that scruffy hair he had on Family.

Denise Alexander looks great there, versus the weird bird's next hair she had in later years.

Martin Hewitt - cute, but bland.

LAINIE KAZAN, BITCHES!

Constance McCashin, dipping Bugles into a jar of Nutella.

A fair number of actors in other shows (Ken Kercheval, Steve Kanaly, Shackleford, etc.) - guess I'm surprised to see them in a guest spot on another show, especially on another network.

And SHELLEY WINTERS. The end.

by Anonymousreply 19September 20, 2023 4:16 PM

Eleanor Parker looks like Holland Taylor in that clip.

by Anonymousreply 23September 20, 2023 5:03 PM

But then Eleanor started earlier in the biz.

by Anonymousreply 24September 20, 2023 5:05 PM

Dina Merrill always looked classy.

by Anonymousreply 25September 20, 2023 5:06 PM

Peter Marshall looks like he's about to fly right outta there.

by Anonymousreply 26September 20, 2023 5:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 31September 20, 2023 11:21 PM

I couldn't stomach watching the whole thing, but seeing young Tori made me wonder how Candy could:

1. Let Aaron inflict someone so hideous looking on viewers

2. Not realise indulging ugly young Tori's desire to be a star could only end in disaster.

by Anonymousreply 32September 20, 2023 11:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 84September 24, 2023 5:27 AM

Damn, Pam Dawber can pull some hot dick. Mark Harmon AND Phil Coccioletti.

by Anonymousreply 85September 24, 2023 11:30 AM

God I wish Jane Badler had a bigger career. Fuck you John Forsythe for nixing her as the new Fallon because she was too butch.

by Anonymousreply 86September 24, 2023 11:45 AM

She could have been Demi Moore's double.

by Anonymousreply 87September 24, 2023 11:48 AM

Names, names, names! Melinda Culea! Lydia Cornel! Ellen Bry! I always wonder what actresses like them wound up doing after the tv roles stopped coming.

Shari Belafonte-Harper is on the Morning Show but she’s basically been an extra until the latest episode where they finally gave her a few lines.

by Anonymousreply 88September 24, 2023 11:54 AM

by Anonymousreply 94September 24, 2023 12:08 PM

Ken Olandt and Ken Olin.

by Anonymousreply 95September 24, 2023 12:13 PM

Unless I missed someone that’s a very white bunch of guest stars. I saw Scatman Carothers and Maidie Norman - two old people. That may reflect that there weren’t many black or Asian actors at the time to take these kind of parts. I don’t think I ever watched an episode of Hotel.

About 20 years ago a cousin of mine worked as a PA for Connie and John Tesch. He said John was nice but that Connie was “the c word”. They must have found my cousin through the born-again Christian circles which John and Connie are part of. I’d bet you Connie is faking it the marriage. She seems a little too Bronx for that stuff.

by Anonymousreply 96September 24, 2023 1:01 PM

I thought it was Cristina Raines, too.

Aaron Spelling was loyal to a regular group of Hollywood actors. Class B-C, who he would use a lot. He had Michelle Phillips as a mermaid on Fantasy Island, then used her on TJ Hooker, Love Boat etc., and cast her as Efrem Zimbalist's daughter who was trying to help the Cabot family keep the "St. Gregory'" away from James Brolin. That led to Knots Landing after Hotel.

by Anonymousreply 97September 24, 2023 1:28 PM

You could retire on 10% of the perm & hairspray profits.

by Anonymousreply 98September 24, 2023 1:41 PM

I looked up a couple of the actors and they're all 70 or so now. So 32 or so then.

by Anonymousreply 99September 24, 2023 2:18 PM

Tori! Tori! Tori!

by Anonymousreply 100September 24, 2023 2:46 PM

Cristina Raines can always be identified from her massive overbite.

by Anonymousreply 101September 24, 2023 2:47 PM

R97 - I think Michelle Phillips was the person with the most guest star appearances on the series but then she was made a semi-regular in season 4.

by Anonymousreply 102September 24, 2023 5:08 PM

R96 -the series has two black actors as regulars - Nathan Cook and Shari Belafonte.

by Anonymousreply 103September 24, 2023 5:15 PM

Do shows still have a guest star play different roles over the run of the series? Tom Bosley plays a hotel worker in season two and a guest in season three.

It seems to have been more common in the earlier days of television, and was still being done in the 80s, on The Golden Girls for example.

I can’t think of any shows that do it now, though I don’t watch much series television these days.

by Anonymousreply 104September 24, 2023 5:28 PM

[quote] I remember when everyone was trying to make Christopher Norris happen.

Not everyone, but for sure whatever old studio head or producer that was fucking her at the time.

by Anonymousreply 105September 24, 2023 5:32 PM

Well, she sure didn't get much return on that pussy because her career was basically Trapper John and game shows. These days, I wouldn't even give a handjob for that.

by Anonymousreply 106September 24, 2023 5:34 PM

Everyone is posed so stiffly and weird in the Season 4 openings. The relaxed looks and smiles from Season 1 have been replaced by Constipated Maximum Drama poses.

by Anonymousreply 107September 24, 2023 5:38 PM

I need Shea Farrell and Michael Spound to take me up to an empty room and take turns filling up my hole.

by Anonymousreply 108September 24, 2023 5:39 PM

Also they keep tinkering with the theme's arrangement. Mancini must have been pissed. I assumed they didn't bring him in every year for an update. The first season's theme is so lovely.

by Anonymousreply 109September 25, 2023 1:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 112September 25, 2023 2:00 AM

Efrem Zimbalist Jr. was a "special guest star," but Joan Fontaine, in a previous season, was a mere guest star?

by Anonymousreply 113September 25, 2023 2:30 AM

I'm surprised it lasted five seasons. I don't remember ever watching it even once.

by Anonymousreply 114September 25, 2023 2:33 AM

They gave Efrem that credit because he became a semi-regular like Michelle Phillips.

by Anonymousreply 115September 25, 2023 2:40 AM

Thanks, R115. Was the fifth season the only one without Anne Baxter, who had inconveniently died on a Manhattan street?

by Anonymousreply 116September 25, 2023 3:47 AM

[quote] I'm surprised it lasted five seasons. I don't remember ever watching it even once.

Me neither.

I vaguely remember that it was maybe on Wednesdays - after Dynasty? - but I was never allowed to stay up that late on a school night to watch it.

by Anonymousreply 117September 25, 2023 3:58 AM

Baxter was only in the seasons 1 to 3.

by Anonymousreply 118September 25, 2023 4:15 AM

A lot if the guest stars appear over and over again (Mary Crosby is shown for Seasons 1, 2 3). We're the actors playing the same character every time they showed up?

It seems like an awful lot of repeats for them to be playing different roles.

by Anonymousreply 119September 25, 2023 4:46 AM

Mary played 3 different ladies.

by Anonymousreply 120September 25, 2023 4:48 AM

Shari Belafonte is a great beauty.

by Anonymousreply 121September 25, 2023 6:18 AM

R121 = Harry Belafonte

by Anonymousreply 122September 25, 2023 6:21 AM

Does anyone know how much these guest stars banked for appearing on these silly shows (also The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, etc.)?

by Anonymousreply 123September 25, 2023 6:46 AM

No Charo?

by Anonymousreply 124September 25, 2023 7:06 AM

Charo was busy on "The Love Boat."

by Anonymousreply 125September 25, 2023 7:43 AM

Gordon Lightfoot? If only it had stayed on the air into the late 90's so we could have seen Marilyn Manson as a gs.

by Anonymousreply 126September 25, 2023 8:07 AM

Not much, r123. Aaron was notoriously cheap so they would have appeared for the exposure.

For someone who produced a lot of crappy shows, he sure made heaps of money. If Tori had followed in his footsteps, she could have made heaps for at least a decade, instead of embarrassing herself on her "reality" shows and instagrift.

by Anonymousreply 127September 25, 2023 11:40 AM

Hotel is weird because although the format was essentially "Love Boat," it has this dark, sleazy undercurrent that makes viewers sometimes feel in need of a Silkwood shower.

The pilot features the brutal rape of hooker Morgan Fairchild, and Robert Reed plays a man who's molesting his very young stepdaughter! No, thanks. I mean I'm just trying to enjoy some '80s cheese, here. No need for the lurid histrionics.

by Anonymousreply 128September 25, 2023 11:52 AM

But r128, all Aaron's shows helped to "shine a light" on hidden issues and "increase awareness" of them!

by Anonymousreply 129September 25, 2023 12:14 PM

Ha, r129! Yeah, Spelling was a regular Albert Schweitzer.

by Anonymousreply 130September 25, 2023 12:36 PM

[quote]Robert Reed plays a man who's molesting his very young stepdaughter!

Triggered!

by Anonymousreply 131September 25, 2023 1:23 PM

I skimmed through the pilot only to see Bette Davis. I noted that Morgan played a hooker who gets raped but she seemed not too traumatized in a later scene where her character is flirting with James Brolin.

by Anonymousreply 132September 25, 2023 4:37 PM

An actor of James Brolin's talent deserved better

by Anonymousreply 133September 25, 2023 8:01 PM

he's a tiny teeny child

by Anonymousreply 134September 25, 2023 8:07 PM

Yes. With Brolin's talent he should have at least been Doc or Gopher on The Love Boat.

by Anonymousreply 135September 25, 2023 8:55 PM

Or Avigdor flashing his ass.

by Anonymousreply 136September 25, 2023 9:07 PM

James Brolin was nothing less than brilliant battling an evil Lincoln Continental in "The Car." He was robbed of the Oscar that year. Some schlub named Dreyfuss got it instead.
