I think I was about 10 years old (thereabouts) when EMERGENCY! debuted. Mantooth was who I wanted to be, later he was who I wanted to eat.

He was outed as anti-gay during his ATWT stints so I can't stand him.

Anti-gay? Deets, anyone who might know the story?

I was too young to remember him on Emergency but loved him as hot daddy Clay Alden/Alex Masters on Loving in my early teens in the late '80s. It makes sense that he had a background in theater and primetime tv, I remember him being a cut above most of the other actors on daytime.

R6. Was he mean to Benjamin?

Emergency, just a gayling at the time, but even then I though all the men were hot even the Doctor.

R9 One story came from a rather detailed reader blind item hosted by CDAN back in 2021:
The guesses in parentheses have been inserted into the blind by someone else who monitored the posts about it when it was first published:
[quote] Reader Blind: Many years ago, there were two successful TV shows made by the same company ("Mark VII Limited"). The first one ("Adam-12") featured two male leads. The older one (Martin Milner) is now deceased. The younger one is gay (Kent McCord) but has been in a very long lavender marriage. He is not actually the father of his children. The second show ("Emergency!") was kind of an ensemble with the cast split between two different locations (paramedics and firefighters in the Los Angeles metropolitan area). Behind the scenes, this show was a huge party. There was a crossover between the two shows and the two male actors (Randolph Mantooth) (Kevin Tighe) who were arguably the most well known of the second show's cast discovered the first show actor was gay and so bullied and taunted and mocked him during the shoot. Finally both show's A list producer/creator (Jack Webb) who was also an actor ("Dragnet") had to step in. He was a very authoritative guy and the two second show cast members quickly stopped this behavior. "Mark VII Limited"/"Adam-12"/Martin Milner/Kent McCord/"Emergency!"/paramedics and firefighters in the Los Angeles metropolitan area/Randolph Mantooth/Kevin Tighe/Jack Webb/"Dragnet"

I remember the anticipation of waiting for Emergency! to come on. I didn't understand at first why my pants got tight when Randy showed up.
