Has anyone here ever written a book?

Were you published? How did you break into the industry? Any writing tips? Spill any details, I want to pick all the writer’s brains.

I created a fake book for which I wrote a book report in 7th grade. My teacher gave me an A+.

R1 sounds so much like me. In my 8th grade English class we had to provide our teacher with a list of s certain number of books we had read from which she would pick for us to give a book report in front of the class. Since I had not read the requisite number of books, I had to include some fictitious titles. And sure enough, my teacher picked one of the faux titles for my book report. She was most impressed with my account, saying the book sounded “very interesting.” I was impressed with my creative talents.

R1 here

My fake book was “The History of the Academy Awards” —chock full of facts and figures from the World Almanac and the encyclopedia—and a few anecdotes from the LA Times (it was around Oscar season). Mrs. Warner had no clue.
