I've been noticing people walking in public holding the phone in a supine position pointing forward (like someone aiming a TV remote control) and looking down at the phone while they talking into it instead of paying attention to where they are walking. Is this a thing now?
Proper use of a speaker phone

A thing like a fashion trend that someone like you wants or should follow??
NO, fool!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 18, 2023 1:16 AM |
It's been a thing for a decade at least OP.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 18, 2023 1:16 AM |
It's been a douche thing to do for a while. They don't want to put the phone up to their head. It's fucking asinine.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 18, 2023 1:17 AM |
Yes. It is only going to get worse
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 18, 2023 1:22 AM |
I have seen more and more older people with the speaker phone on but holding the phone to their ear like it is not on. It is so bizarre.

What’s the frequency, Kenneth

I blame the Real Housewives franchise.

There is no reason it should be illegal to kill these pieces of shit.

9G R6. From the lamp posts and phone towers.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 18, 2023 1:33 AM |
It’s really obnoxious. Speaker phone should only be used behind closed doors
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 18, 2023 1:35 AM |
People who use speakerphone anywhere outside their home or a closed office are complete trash. I travel a lot for work and I constantly see disgusting Don Jr's on their speakerphone as if there is no one else in the airport besides them.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 18, 2023 1:35 AM |
I mainly see chicks doing this. Never seen a guy do it.

I wear AirPods Pro

r13 In the airports, I actually ONLY see men doing it
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 18, 2023 1:41 AM |
R5 Some old people have hearing issues.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 18, 2023 1:52 AM |
They are trying to look cool, only it's so out of date like taking a selfie with duck lips pose.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 18, 2023 3:31 AM |
They’re on a video call.
I honestly can’t recall the last time I heard someone talking with the speaker on. Everyone wears ear buds.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 18, 2023 3:38 AM |
It's not a video call. They hold the phone horizontally with the screen facing up a few inches away from their mouths.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 18, 2023 3:40 AM |
They're not looking at the screen. Their eyes are usually darting all over the place while they talk as well.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 18, 2023 3:41 AM |
They’re all assholes and should be shot.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 18, 2023 3:44 AM |
I blame Apple engineers for this. When the iPhone used to have a shitty single speaker at the bottom, hardly anybody did this. But a few generations ago, they drastically improved the sound by having it come from both the earpiece and a separate speaker at the bottom, creating a louder, richer, stereo sound. And we’re all being victimized by it.

R21 is Mrs. Garrett after a few cocktails

Well I think we found one of the people who engages in this behavior. R9 Exhibit A.

Not where I live. I see (and hear) people in stores on speaker phone, out in parking lots. It's usually Hispanics doing this.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 18, 2023 7:36 AM |
I've heard it in restaurants with table service. People will put someone on speaker with that loud tinny sound.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 18, 2023 7:38 AM |
I believe for women it’s to stop getting your face-full of drag queen/kardashian-esque makeup all over the screen which it would if you held it to your ear… why men do it, I have no idea. They then have to shout as all the ambient noise around them is picked by the microphone when it’s held like this.

How many times have you heard full blown conversations people have in ther cars in a parking lot with the phones connected up through the car. I heard a guy talking to his I assume wife or gf telling her how perfect her tits were. This was in the target parking lot lol.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 18, 2023 2:01 PM |
R28 I was in a local parking lot and two young adults were smoking a joint in their car and when they finally got out they had a toddler in a stroller with them. Nothing surprises me these days.

These trash need to BUY SOME FUCKING HEADPHONES. I've been tempted to walk up to some of these freaks and just give them my own gd headphones.

People who use speakerphone in public should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 18, 2023 2:07 PM |
The proximity sensor on my phone is messed up so that when I put the phone next to my ear, the screen stays on and I end up accidentally turning on the flashlight/opening Google Wallet/activating Do Not Disturb mode/you name it with my face. So I started using speaker phone for all calls, but only inside my house. Because R31 is correct.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 18, 2023 2:08 PM |
I was sitting at a counter having breakfast a couple of days ago and a guy at the other end was having a conversation with his speakerphone on. The guy next to him ask him to take it outside.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 18, 2023 2:09 PM |
R30 that would require them to exhibit some common sense and consideration of those around them. They have neither.
