It also happens to be their first top 10 hit and breakout song, peaking at #4. But it’s phenomenal and they had many great songs (especially in the 80s, where they fused their sounds a lot), but this one is just brilliant.
“Sara Smile” (1976) is Hall & Oates best song!

I prefer She’s Gone, but this is great too.

I've always loved this song. But I really have no shame in the fact that I love Hall & Oates.
I celebrate their entire catalog.

It's now Oates and Hall.

R2 what is there to be ashamed of? They had classics.

“She’s Gone” was originally released in 1973 and peaked at #60 on the charts. It was their first and only song to break into the Hot 100 until “Sara Smile” came out in 1976 and was a hit. After that “She’s Gone” was rereleased and peaked at #7.

I love the original but I also love Joan Osborne's cover.

I did not hear of them until 1976, when the Abandoned Luncheonette album came out. It, Silk Degrees, and Hasten down the Wind were my favorite albums that year. Oh, and Warren Zevon’s s/t album.

R7, agreed, Joan's cover is fantastic. Here's another goodie

I don’t “get” it. For me it flops on every level. It’s too slow and mopey and formless. I’m obviously in the minority since it was top three gold. I love Dorothy Moore’s ‘Misty Blue’ which was a hit at approximately the same time.

"where they fused their sounds a lot"
What does that mean, OP?

I agree, I can listen to that song over, and over everyday. I love the very opening of it, too. It's a thoughtful soulful song.

The version of "She's Gone" by Tavares reached #1 on Billboard's R&B chart. (Went to #50 on the Hot 100.)

"Go Solo" is a great break up song.

R12 Nothing, Daryl Hall is the whole talent

I wish Daryl would stop with the annoying hair styles. He’s a handsome guy with an incredible singing talent
