The UK prepares for multi media celebrity expose

Tomorrow (Saturday) night on Channel 4 a Dispatches Special airs, on a yet to be revealed subject. It's rumoured to be in conjunction with a Sunday newspaper who have been working with C4 on the story.

Much speculation is around high profile comedians, and some people are talking about Russell Brand.

OMG WHO IS IT LOL

by Anonymousreply 80September 17, 2023 12:19 PM

This girl says David Williams.

Dammit I typed Walliams but my phone changed it.

by Anonymousreply 2September 15, 2023 8:43 PM

Walliams is creepy and seems insane.

by Anonymousreply 3September 15, 2023 8:50 PM

WHO?

by Anonymousreply 4September 15, 2023 9:00 PM

Never heard of

by Anonymousreply 5September 15, 2023 9:09 PM

What's to prepare for?

by Anonymousreply 6September 15, 2023 9:11 PM

More dirt on Prince Andrew, maybe?

by Anonymousreply 7September 15, 2023 9:50 PM

Russell Brand has denied the accusations of sexual misconduct - and the Tories should be worried

Russell Brand isn’t exactly high profile anymore.

by Anonymousreply 10September 15, 2023 11:55 PM

I don't doubt that Brand is sketchy AF, but would Dispatches really dedicate a 90-minute special just to him?

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2023 12:07 AM

r10 He's probably high profile enough for these purposes. Most people in the UK over about 25 would at least know who he is. even if they've not thought of him in years.

by Anonymousreply 12September 16, 2023 12:07 AM

[quote]I don't doubt that Brand is sketchy AF, but would Dispatches really dedicate a 90-minute special just to him?

Some are saying the special will cover other comedians too.

by Anonymousreply 13September 16, 2023 12:22 AM

[quote] the special will cover other comedians too.

Well there goes Peter Kay. Was thinking about booking tickets for around Christmas as well

by Anonymousreply 14September 16, 2023 12:25 AM

After looking on that "Twitter" thread of Rape allegations ( horrible), against Brand, his number could be coming up too.

by Anonymousreply 15September 16, 2023 1:26 AM

Brand has a huge messiah complex.. His main grift is portraying himself as a man being targeted by the deep state because he’s “too close to the truth,” so he’ll milk this scandal as much as he can, even if the accused predator turns out to be someone else..

by Anonymousreply 16September 16, 2023 5:16 AM

Open your heart to me

by Anonymousreply 17September 16, 2023 5:41 AM

Good one.

If it's true that David Jason is one of the celebs, all hell will break loose. He is, as much as I hate this phrase, considered a national treasure.

by Anonymousreply 19September 16, 2023 6:49 AM

There are many arrogant British comedians who give me predator vibes: Ricky Gervais, Stephen Fry, and John Cleese, for example. Not Russell Brand. though. He’s been quite open about his drinking, drugging, and promiscuity, but (being a compulsive attention whore) he is obviously praying that someone will accuse him of something — anything — to prove that a globalist cabal is coming for him. Being a free-speech martyr is highly profitable!

by Anonymousreply 20September 16, 2023 7:08 AM

British funnymen who I’m hoping are not among the creeps:

Hugh Laurie

Michael Palin

Eric Idle

John Oliver

by Anonymousreply 21September 16, 2023 7:48 AM

Just saying, Frankie Boyle gives off MAJOR paedo vibes.

by Anonymousreply 22September 16, 2023 8:06 AM

I've never liked Ricky Gervaise much, but I began to actively dislike him after I saw some behind-the-scenes stuff, where he made a joke out of repeatedly ordering this guy on the crew to do embarrassing things and humiliate himself on camera, where Gervaise laughed like a psycho. It was a deeply unpleasant combination of cruel humor, and real cruelty.

Which doesn't mean that Gervaise has ever done anything criminal, it just means that I myself dislike him.

by Anonymousreply 23September 16, 2023 8:27 AM

A lot of comedians have a sadistic streak.

Katherine Ryan has long talked about ‘someone’ who is a known predator. She is a terrible bully who targets people as part of her act.

by Anonymousreply 24September 16, 2023 8:54 AM

Can you spot the creeper?

by Anonymousreply 25September 16, 2023 9:01 AM

R25, is like that film on the train where they all did it?

by Anonymousreply 26September 16, 2023 9:52 AM

If it is Brand then good. His 'Booky Wook' showed us what a horrible cunt he is and was.

by Anonymousreply 27September 16, 2023 10:07 AM

Supposedly it’s about multiple people, I’ve seen people claim as many as five. The top names being bandied about are Russell Brand, David Jason, David Walliams, Noel Fielding, and Richard Wilson.

I doubt it’s Fielding since he’s on Channel 4 and Bake Off is just getting ready to start again and I can’t imagine they’d ruin their biggest show’s host right before the new series.

by Anonymousreply 28September 16, 2023 10:25 AM

Yes, the rumour I've heard is that it's about multiple comedians, past and present.

by Anonymousreply 29September 16, 2023 10:32 AM

Hmm, Brand is trying to get ahead of this by releasing videos denying any potential allegations

He is guilty as sin

by Anonymousreply 30September 16, 2023 10:33 AM

Not Victor Meldrew, R28!

by Anonymousreply 31September 16, 2023 10:33 AM

Even before he turned into a right-wing conspiracy theorist, I couldn't stand ugly and unfunny Russell Brand. This will be delicious!

by Anonymousreply 32September 16, 2023 10:33 AM

R31 I don’t believe it!!!

by Anonymousreply 33September 16, 2023 10:42 AM

Nicholas Lyndhurst is appearing in the Frasier revival. Which means that if it's true about David Jason, Rodney has broken America and is still about to be overshadowed by Del Boy.

by Anonymousreply 34September 16, 2023 11:37 AM

[quote]Frankie Boyle gives off MAJOR paedo vibes.

Oh PLEASE let Boyle be one of them. It'd be like Christmas and New Year's Eve all at once.

by Anonymousreply 35September 16, 2023 11:38 AM

If only these people were famous.

by Anonymousreply 36September 16, 2023 11:40 AM

why is something like this even announced ahead of time? Is something seemingly so serious entertainment?

by Anonymousreply 37September 16, 2023 11:44 AM

r32 Right wing??

by Anonymousreply 38September 16, 2023 11:47 AM

[quote]why is something like this even announced ahead of time?

Apparently the UK has to "prepare" for it.

by Anonymousreply 39September 16, 2023 11:49 AM

It's announced so people will watch it who wouldn't normally watch a Channel 4 documentary on Saturday nights (i.e. everyone), obviously.

by Anonymousreply 40September 16, 2023 11:51 AM

r37 Because its made Dispatches audience go from the 3,000 people who want hard hitting reporting on a Saturday night to at least a few million who want to see if their guess the nonce answer was right. They allowed us to bet on it it'd theyd probably get more viewers that the queens funeral

by Anonymousreply 41September 16, 2023 11:53 AM

R41.

by Anonymousreply 42September 16, 2023 11:59 AM

[quote]why is something like this even announced ahead of time? Is something seemingly so serious entertainment?

There are these things called TV schedules and generally broadcasters announce in advance what is being aired.

by Anonymousreply 43September 16, 2023 12:02 PM

Piers Morgan I hope. Can't stand him.

by Anonymousreply 44September 16, 2023 12:29 PM

r37 The timing of Dispatches was announced because that's how TV schedules work. But the actual topic wasn't announced ahead of time at all. What are you even trying to moan about here?

by Anonymousreply 45September 16, 2023 12:48 PM

This was from popbitch a few days ago

Fleet Street has been abuzz this afternoon with chat that one of the weekend papers is braced to drop an explosive story we hear will open up a whole new front on #MeToo.

by Anonymousreply 46September 16, 2023 1:03 PM

r46 Maybe it is Del Boy then. I honestly can't really think of anyone that fits the bill or is liked enough for the hype they're building up other than him. Career ending might be stretching it though since he's 83.

by Anonymousreply 47September 16, 2023 1:16 PM

r47

by Anonymousreply 48September 16, 2023 1:18 PM

It is hard to imagine it being DJ as there don’t seem to have been any major rumours about him in the past and he seems a decent sort unlike some of his intensely creepy possible predecessors. If it is then that I would be surprised and a bit sad about it as I I have grown up enjoying his work over the years and it will all be tainted.

by Anonymousreply 49September 16, 2023 1:35 PM

As far as I'm aware, the David Jason rumours stem from an incident in the 90s in which young boys were abused in his holiday home. Jason wasn't even in the country at the time. There's nothing to indicate he had any knowledge of what was going on. (That being said, nothing any celebrity does could surprise me nowadays.)

Russell Brand is a seducer, not an attacker.

by Anonymousreply 51September 16, 2023 1:57 PM

barf

by Anonymousreply 52September 16, 2023 1:59 PM

I hope it’s Brand so he can go away already. Smug asshole.

by Anonymousreply 53September 16, 2023 2:00 PM

News and documentary programmes like Dispatches and Panorama regularly trail the subjects of their upcoming episodes - this isn't at all unusual, apart from the celeb angle.

by Anonymousreply 54September 16, 2023 2:30 PM

[QUOTE]Russell Brand is a seducer, not an attacker.

That's always how he's tried to portray himself but I've been a bit suspicious of it. Like he's trying too hard. Is it attractive for women to feel like they're just another notch on Russell Brand's bedpost?

So let's see what evidence Dispatches has - they would not do this without some evidence.

We don't even know for sure who or what this is about - just rumours.

by Anonymousreply 55September 16, 2023 2:33 PM

People who have come to Russell Brand's support already, without seeing the show: Tucker Carlson, Andrew Tate, GB News, Laurence Fox, Elon Musk.

As someone who's never liked him and so ignored him as much as possible Brands political journey really has been weird to get reintroduced to every few years. About the time of the student strikes I had so many left wing friends who used to jizz themselves over his podcast while i thought he was a weird purple prosed twat with a beard. Didn't hear about him for years. Then about covid he turned anti vax became a hero to the right, now in 2023 he has the likes of Andrew Tate coming out to bat for him.

What sayeth Katy Perry?

by Anonymousreply 61September 16, 2023 3:13 PM

R55, One only has to take 5 seconds to see some of the women Russell Brand has had---and has, as in marriage--- relationships with. Kate Moss. Jemima Khan. Katy Perry. And of course innumerable unknowns.

He is brilliant, witty, and, sorry to inform you fellas, very attractive. I saw him in concert a few years ago. His concluding "bit" was to emphatically advise the men to please their women, IYKWIM, and it's not by doing the dishes!

Tangential but earlier this year, the BBC exposed the abuse by Japanese boy band impresario Johnny Kitagawa and forced his company to accept responsibility for it. It'd been known for decades that Johnny abused boys going back to the 1950s, but he was so powerful and Japan is so corrupt that no one would take him down. The BBC forced their hand. This is MASSIVE for Japan because boy bands are bigger even than K-pop bands, which are modeled on the bands founded by Johnny.

[quote]Alice, who later worked at Channel 4, recalled a meeting in late 2013 or early 2014 during which Brand was pitched as a host of a show but concerns about his behaviour were flagged. “The solution that was offered was that we would take the female staff off the crew — women that have worked hard to get into this industry — now can’t work on particular shows because of fear that they might be assaulted or harassed. I was in disbelief.”

Name the producers

by Anonymousreply 64September 16, 2023 3:28 PM

The Dispatches is only about Brand

by Anonymousreply 65September 16, 2023 3:35 PM

Jack Whitehall?

by Anonymousreply 66September 16, 2023 3:43 PM

r65 Oh yeah. Was it confirmed they were naming other comedians or was that just a rumour?

by Anonymousreply 67September 16, 2023 3:45 PM

WTF's your point R62? "He's been with countless *Noteworthy* or Well-Recognized Women, so obviously he can't be guilty of heinous or abusive behavior"? What kind of logic is that?

Based on the list of supporters alone at R56's list- Tate, Carlson, Musk- all equally putrid, he would have done well to support himself by either responding to the Investigation's opportunity for Response, or by taking immediate legal action to protect his good name. Unfortunately the latter, would require him showing Proof to the contrary in Court. Hmm....

by Anonymousreply 68September 16, 2023 3:47 PM

R64, there was a story about Scottish comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli who was a notorious sex pest and has been recently charged with sex offences.

When a woman complained about his behaviour on a BBC show the woman was offered a chaperone so she wasn't alone with him.

by Anonymousreply 69September 16, 2023 3:47 PM

Yup, looks like a sex addict whose desperation for sex crossed the line into harassment, abuse and, at worst, rape. I don't find it surprising. Any addiction means unhealthy behaviour and loss of control.

by Anonymousreply 70September 16, 2023 3:48 PM

Must admit finding out its just Brand kind of killed my interest a bit since no one in the world other than anti vax loons (and r 62 apparently). Care in the slightest about Russel Brand anymore. Its hardly going to rock the entertainment world in even half the same way say Rolf Harris going down did.

by Anonymousreply 71September 16, 2023 3:59 PM

That Brand is an abuser is not news, what IS newsworthy is how many people knew and tolerated it, enabled it, or covered it up.

How many people kept giving him work DESPITE knowing.

That's the news story.

by Anonymousreply 72September 16, 2023 4:18 PM

[quote]Right wing??

See R56, Surviving Angel.

by Anonymousreply 73September 16, 2023 4:30 PM

r67 Just a rumour.

by Anonymousreply 74September 16, 2023 4:33 PM

Stand up comedians, by and large, are broken people. Comedic actors not so much, but acting is just weird in itself.

by Anonymousreply 75September 16, 2023 4:44 PM

Sexual harassment was ubiquitous in the comedy world of the 60s and 70s, both in America and the UK. Women were not welcome, although a few tough ones like Lucille ball, Carol Burnett, and Joan Rivers broke through, but even they had their share of predatory male behavior. Comedy has always been much worse than music or theater because the ratio of straight men to women is so lopsided.

by Anonymousreply 76September 16, 2023 4:59 PM

A few interesting comments on the UK reddit:

"I realise this is just anecdotal, but he was very inappropriate with my friend at one of his gigs many years ago. We were 16."

"He kissed me and my friends on the lips when we were 15/16 at a book signing"

"A colleague worked with him 20 years ago when he was in his pomp. NOT SURPRISED PEOPLE, NOT SURPRISED !! Everything in The Times piece about assistants and being very handsy to the point of assault. Widely known and I’m sure most people who read the article today probably wondered why it took so long."

"Again this is anecdotal but I know someone who works as a masseuse in a spa that Brand was a regular at. She told me that none of the female masseuses would be alone in a room with him. This was a few years ago."

"My friend told me back in the early noughties that her 15 yr old friend was asked to sign a waiver saying she was 16 when she went to an aftershow at Russell's hotel room."

"Russell Brand apparently lost his virginity, aged 17, to a prostitute in Hong Kong, paid for by his dad. While his dad also had sex with a prostitute in the same room."

by Anonymousreply 77September 16, 2023 6:32 PM

I am sure many people knew and experienced what a scumbag he is but unless someone steps up and runs with it nothing ever happens to these types of people. The police can’t work with rumour and gossip.

by Anonymousreply 78September 16, 2023 7:13 PM

R78 Brand had expensive lawyers which he would sic on people on every opportunity. Don't forget that libel laws in the UK are a lot stricter than in the U.S. - you really have to have proof to make claims about people. And bringing rape convictions is very hard and quite rare because often it comes down to a 'he said, she said' thing which most juries are reluctant to convict on. They want visible and audible proof of the rape or assault which obviously most people don't have.

by Anonymousreply 79September 16, 2023 7:28 PM

Didn't at least some of the alleged assaults take place in America, so UK law wouldn't be relevant?
