The Boy Scouts of America [is] the largest pedophile organization in human history

Eagle Scout Steve Schmidt says “ It must be investigated top to bottom, and held to account.”

So, who's investigating? The tops or bottoms?

by Anonymousreply 1September 15, 2023 5:06 PM

I throughly enjoyed Scouting from age 11-15 when I was bullied out of Explorers (older scouts)by the jocks. I never saw or heard of sexual activity in my troop, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 3September 15, 2023 5:25 PM

I'm not believing a lot of this pedomania. There's no way there could be that much molesting in the Scouts- or anywhere else- and it only comes to light decades later. Kids talk, kids tattle.

I have firsthand knowledge that it was a homophobic organization. I was a gay boy in it briefly and ostracized, uncomfortable. Is this sabotage for their pro-LGBT policy change a few years ago? A money grab? Both?

by Anonymousreply 4September 15, 2023 5:30 PM

To be fair r3, you have a couple millennia head start.

by Anonymousreply 5September 15, 2023 5:30 PM

Um, r4– 82,000 adult men came forward. You think they are lying about being molested?

by Anonymousreply 6September 15, 2023 5:46 PM

I was in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years. I never experienced, saw or heard of any sexual abuse. It was a really excellent experience for me. We had dedicated leaders and many fathers were involved. I'm sorry to hear all this and wonder how accurate it is. I was also pissed when girls were allowed to join.

by Anonymousreply 7September 15, 2023 5:48 PM

I refuse to accept this! There ain't no drag queens in the boy scouts so there ain't no pedos in there. Y'all are LIARS!

So is the Catholic Church. This extreme homophobia in organizations that have a hidden strain of male-male pedophilia is obviously the usual cases of overreaction, projection, deflection, intentional scapegoating and "protesting too much."

by Anonymousreply 10September 15, 2023 6:13 PM

The Boy Scouts of America were proven to allow scoutmasters who got in trouble (were PEDOs) to leave one state and go to another, picking up where they left off as predatory scoutmasters. There was an episode of 20/20 which exposed this. I quit giving to United Way until you could choose what organizations your donations would go to.

by Anonymousreply 11September 15, 2023 6:14 PM

All of you expressing doubt about the accusations or how far reaching it all goes just seem extremely stupid given the amount of evidence supporting a pattern of systemic abuse. It's been proven and known for years. Seriously just stop.

by Anonymousreply 12September 15, 2023 6:22 PM

Sex abuse and sexual assault deniers are almost always perverts and freaks themselves. Pay them no mind.

by Anonymousreply 13September 15, 2023 6:26 PM

I attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through 4 years of college. Never once was I molested or put in a situation where I felt I could have been molested. Several friends of mine have the exact same experience.

But just because it didn't happen to us doesn't mean any of us will ever defend the Catholic Church for its actions and its coverup.

by Anonymousreply 14September 15, 2023 6:28 PM

I was in a troop with excellent leadership. Remember, the pedos don't go for the gay boys, who I agree were ostricized, they go for the ones they can manipulate. I remember quite a few dull types that would have done anything the scoutmaster said. The widespread abuse is a fact not an opinion.

by Anonymousreply 15September 15, 2023 6:30 PM

To those of you denying the abuse claims - watch the Netflix documentary Scout's Honor

There has been abuse in the scouts since the days of Lord Baden-Powell (who was probably a chickenhawk himself).

The Boy Scouts of America started keeping lists of pedo scoutmasters going back to 1919.

by Anonymousreply 16September 15, 2023 6:35 PM

Everything SS wrote is true.

And is one big reason my Scoutmaster Dad would NEVER allow a boy to sleep in his tent even if said boy had nightmares or was freaked out at being in the motherfucking wilderness in pitch-black darkness. Dad knew of other Scoutmasters who were questionable themselves, or who allowed their Scouts to bully, abuse, or even play sadistic practical "jokes" on the other boys, and he gave those other troops a wide berth. In fact, I can recall at least 3 boys who transferred from other troops to Dad's.

And we just recently found out 50+ years on Dad's Scouts still meet and reminisce in person, phone, and sm; to a man they marvel at the depth of Dad's decent-ness, integrity, and non-toxic masculinity.

I adore Steve Schmidt and have felt grief that he didn't have my Dad as Scoutmaster.

by Anonymousreply 18September 15, 2023 7:13 PM

I was a Cub scout, a Boy scout, and an Explorer scout. I was an altar boy. I never saw any pedophile action in either organization. That doesn't mean I don't believe those who reported abuse, however.

by Anonymousreply 19September 15, 2023 7:19 PM

[quote]That doesn't mean I don't believe those who reported abuse, however.

Groomers know who to go after, r19. What "pedophile action" do you think you would have been privy to if you weren't the victim? They don't usually want an audience.

by Anonymousreply 20September 15, 2023 7:24 PM

Yes, R18, MARY! And I own it.

And it's true. My Dad would've loved having SS in Troop 391. And SS would've been spared the lifelong agony he suffers.

by Anonymousreply 21September 15, 2023 7:32 PM

My troop was sponsored by the parish. My scoutmaster was a Monsignor. Boy did I have a shitload of great sex. Once an Eagle Scout, now I scout the back room of The Eagle..

by Anonymousreply 22September 15, 2023 7:36 PM

What R20 says. Many male pedophiles assaulting boys don't even identify as gay. They say girls are more inclined to tell someone.

by Anonymousreply 23September 15, 2023 7:43 PM

[quote]Never once was I molested or put in a situation where I felt I could have been molested. Several friends of mine have the exact same experience.

Damn, y'all must've been some ugly sons of bitches if no priest wanted to touch you in your no-no place.

by Anonymousreply 24September 15, 2023 7:48 PM

Pedo's prey on children that are neglected by their parents. The kids are walking victims. They look for recognize them. It's part of the job description.

by Anonymousreply 25September 15, 2023 7:53 PM

Isn’t that a core function of a parish priest? Shepherd his flock—blessed are the children, etc.

Seriously: I’m glad I was raised in the glory days of Vatican II—it was all peace, love & understanding. The worst thing I was forced to do was join the class in serving at a soup kitchen on Skid Row.

by Anonymousreply 26September 15, 2023 8:13 PM

I believe these reports.

I never encountered this in Scouting, but I was in another youth group that was filled with predatory men that interacted with us as teenagers. Nothing happened to me (I was already sexually active by the time something might have happened) but things went down - some willingly participating, some not so willingly.

by Anonymousreply 27September 15, 2023 8:47 PM

If you *see* something, r27...

by Anonymousreply 28September 15, 2023 8:49 PM

Female neuroses know no boundaries. They want to bring it all down, business world, military, politics, law, policing -- the "patriarch". No wonder men are running for the doors to get away from them.

by Anonymousreply 29September 15, 2023 9:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 30September 15, 2023 9:05 PM

R29 running for the doors and into the holes of fresh young Boy Scouts.

by Anonymousreply 31September 15, 2023 9:06 PM

Many former scouts here are saying the opposite, ma'am.

by Anonymousreply 32September 15, 2023 9:07 PM

R24 is an idiot. Pedophile priests weren't interested in looks.

Pedophile priests were looking for situations where the father was absent or extremely weak so they could prey on their children. If the father was out of the way, it would make it that much easier for the priests to molest the children.

by Anonymousreply 33September 15, 2023 9:08 PM

R32 you're deluded. Anywhere large groups of children gather, adults who want to rape them will flock. Boy Scouts is no different.

by Anonymousreply 34September 15, 2023 9:11 PM

Who hurt you, R34?

by Anonymousreply 35September 15, 2023 9:14 PM

I will say though, calling the entire Boy Scouts a pedophile organization is egregious. Did child rape and molestation happen and was it covered up? Absolute. But the intention of the Boy Scouts was never to traffick children to child molesters.

by Anonymousreply 36September 15, 2023 9:14 PM

How dare they! BSA is a fine upstanding organization with no shenanigans of any kind!

by Anonymousreply 37September 15, 2023 9:15 PM

R35 you've lost the argument. Give up.

by Anonymousreply 38September 15, 2023 9:15 PM

R36 That's what I was thinking. Maybe that the upper management of BSA is not responding. But the misconduct is probably in individual troops, etc.

by Anonymousreply 39September 15, 2023 9:16 PM

It's on wrestling coaches and the military to fill the gap(s) when other organizations fall short.

by Anonymousreply 40September 15, 2023 9:17 PM

R28 I didn't "see" something, and I didn't know most of the details until years later, after I'd graduated college.

To clarify....

In one case, there was a 22 year old that was a youth leader who was close friends with a guy in our chapter who was 16 or 17 - it was a very intense thing where they hung out all the time and I found out years later they'd had an affair. But that was a case where the younger guy, although not old enough to legally consent, was willing to participate.

But then we also had several other situations where much older men groomed younger guys and really mind fucked them, etc. before having sex with them. It's a junior Masonic organization and you'd be hard pressed to find a more secretive group than Masons. And the young members even called the adult leaders "Dad." It was all very weird in retrospect. I was too much of a dumb hick as a teenager to understand the entire context.

by Anonymousreply 41September 15, 2023 9:21 PM

There are over a million youth members in BSA currently. Say only a tenth of a percent have ever had anything untoward happen to them (including witnessing something), that would still be 1000 abused kids.

by Anonymousreply 42September 15, 2023 9:23 PM

I loved Cub Scouts, then I moved into Boy Scouts and was molested by the Scoutmaster’s adult son. While it was kinda hot, I was too young to deal with it at the time and I quit scouting. The incident fostered a love of outdoor cruising. But yeah, they’re pedos.

by Anonymousreply 43September 15, 2023 9:26 PM

WHY does BSA continue to oppress females and abuse young males?!

by Anonymousreply 44September 15, 2023 9:26 PM

R29, what do women have to do with this? The victims are males, they're the ones blowing the whistle on abuse in the scouts

It sounds like you're a misogynist who wants to blame women for everything you don't like

And, no, men aren't running away from women. You clearly don't know any straight men

by Anonymousreply 45September 15, 2023 9:28 PM

I would assume most men leaving the economy are straight, R45, but nice try.

by Anonymousreply 49September 15, 2023 9:46 PM

R46, still trying to shoehorn unrelated posts into this thread. Put down the bottle and go to sleep, hon.

by Anonymousreply 50September 15, 2023 9:46 PM

R41 wait, they call leaders "dad" in all the Boy Scouts or just your regional troop?

by Anonymousreply 51September 15, 2023 9:52 PM

[quote]Damn, y'all must've been some ugly sons of bitches if no priest wanted to touch you in your no-no place.

This is an ignorant statement. Pedos target kids who are vulnerable, with absent or preoccupied parents, often of limited means, and/or lacking strong support networks. They victimize kids who usually are already struggling or hurt. I'm sorry for whatever damaged you but your assumptions are moronic.

by Anonymousreply 52September 15, 2023 10:00 PM

R45 Don’t you know about Job’s Daughters? Rainbow Girls?

by Anonymousreply 53September 15, 2023 10:09 PM

R49 is attacking victims. Nice.

by Anonymousreply 55September 15, 2023 10:21 PM

^r49....sorry, r48.

by Anonymousreply 56September 15, 2023 10:22 PM

Read Scout's Honor. I think the author's name is Patrick Boyle. In many cases the scouts actively shielded these guys from law enforcement, allowing them to keep molesting. If they got caught molesting kids in one area, they'd just move somewhere else where people didn't know them

by Anonymousreply 57September 15, 2023 10:27 PM

More so than the Catholic Church? I’m not by any means doubting stats but I feel like seeing as the Church has been around for thousands of years, it’s probably been happening since it’s inception.

by Anonymousreply 58September 15, 2023 10:40 PM

This is just so very disheartening and disgusting if this is in fact true news. My heart goes out to all the boys who will grow to be beautiful men, but will always have the pain of abuse and trust issues to cope with.

I wish them peace and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Imagine the enormous trust issues they would have to face the fact that an organization that is supposed to build up boys to be better men is literally destroying their mind, body, and spirit. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 59September 16, 2023 12:12 AM

R51 It wasn't Boy Scouts. It was the Masonic youth group for boys, DeMolay.

But similar structure to BSA. Just no Cub Scouts version - it's 13 to 21 yr olds.

by Anonymousreply 60September 16, 2023 12:34 AM

Frauiest frau thread that ever frau'd.

by Anonymousreply 61September 16, 2023 12:48 AM

Boy Scouts aren't fraus

by Anonymousreply 62September 16, 2023 12:51 AM

There were a few pedos in our community's scouting group. They know which kids would make good victims and left others alone. They seemed to avoid loud know it alls with misplaced selfconfidence. One of the molesters danced in a Sioux loincloth in front our elementary school. That should have been clue one.

by Anonymousreply 63September 16, 2023 1:22 AM

[quote]The Boy Scouts of America [is] the largest pedophile organization in human history

Worse than the centuries of paedophilia documented in the Catholic church? I find that difficult to believe.

by Anonymousreply 64September 16, 2023 1:26 AM

R21, you sound like an infantile creeper yourself.

by Anonymousreply 65September 16, 2023 1:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 66September 16, 2023 1:37 AM

R55, I am not trolling at ALL. I made a statement, but I am not trolling. So , stfu, and take a look at yourself.

by Anonymousreply 67September 16, 2023 1:40 AM

Over the past 120 years or so, there are probably more Boy Scouts cases than Catholic Church cases

by Anonymousreply 68September 16, 2023 1:46 AM

I was a scoutmaster for a year or so after the original one left. I did it only because the boys were upset that no one would step up and take the reins following his departure. I had a troop full of social misfits and ADHD kids that were tough to keep on task. It was a real commitment. There were a couple of boys that were very good kids, and dedicated to the principle so I stayed mainly for them. As for the rest of the troop, they had parents that only wanted an evening of peace and quiet, or hard partying ... who knows. Those parents were also the most vocal complainers. Figured! One particular kid was a real mess. ADD to the max, and big for his age. He had broken his wrist and had a cast. He would flail his arms around and bang his cast into the other kids heads. I was finally able to place the couple of boys that wanted to stay with scouting in other, much better troops. Thank God! It was an experience. Thinking back, I had doubts about a few of the other scout masters. I do believe the org is ripe for pedos, just like the priesthood. Parents that refuse to realize that organizations like Cub and Boy Scouts is the perfect breeding ground for child sex abuse are ignorant and a danger to their own children. These days it's a smart thing to look at everyone with eagle eyes.

by Anonymousreply 69September 16, 2023 2:17 AM

What R34 describes is a known feature of many pedophiles; they seek out employment opportunities and social connections that will bring them into contact with victims. Jerry Sandusky started a charity for kids so he could find young boys to rape year after year. There are countless other examples. Pedophile priests, school teachers and doctors who had direct access to kids and gained the trust of unsuspecting parents and colleagues are an all too common pattern in pedophile cases.
