Some DLers have not read their daily newspapers lately. They've missed the story of the "Great Realignment." So many conservatives have realized that their old party no longer exists & have become partisan Democrats. But to these DLers, they're apparently unwelcome ... or wished dead. Go figure.

Not sure if Chris Christie is a conservative, but I find him funny and smart. I’d never vote for him, of course, but he’s on of the few GOP these days that seems to have a sense of humor and isn’t completely insane.

Schmitt, Wilson, Miller, Kinzinger, Steele - would have a drink with any of them, any time, if ever the opportunity ever presented itself. Would probably flirt heavily with Miller, swoon over the others, not gonna deny the seriously impure thoughts about Kinzinger just tamp them down..

Bari Weiss and Andrew Sullivan aren't real conservatives, but I don't mind them in the least. Andrew has evolved into a different chap than he was 20 years ago. That's been nice to watch.

R51 Well, I used to be a Republican. Particularly their milieu of politics/conservatism. Most of them have left the party and retired into seclusion. They all have such good manners they would never comment on the current political climate publicly out of respect for their old position. I admire that in a way and find it frustration in another way.

I admire arch conservative Rusty Bower for not going along with Trump & company political agenda. It cost him the latest election. In the unlikely event of our meeting, I think we would agree to disagree on issues, the adults did in times past. Also admire "maverick" McCain who would actually listen to the other person. I used to be conservative. Can't go along with has become now. I have drifted to the left far less than the conservatives, really reactionaries have swerved further right.

That's a pretty broad statement. It's fine that you think that, but I would not find it true or helpful. Everybody (even you r57) is or will be a bit conservative in their lifetime. At some point everybody seems to measure progress by their biased experience from their childhood. Even the most progressive people end up mourning the good old times when liberal ideas were so much stronger than today.

And even young people have at least a shred of conservative ideals. It's all fluent. And that shade of gray changes with life. I notice my husband becoming more conservative, while my 85 year old father turned liberal after retirement. People are odd in the way they develop sometimes.
