‘Nosferatu’ remake set to be released in 2024.

The remake stars Lily-Rose Depp, Nicolas Hoult, Bill Skarsgaard, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Emma Corrin. It’s a reimagining of the original film.

“In the new reimagining, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) in 19th-century Germany, and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Bill Skarsgård) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”

Anya Taylor-Joy was originally cast but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, then being replaced by Lily-Rose Depp. Harry Styles was originally cast but left the project, then being replaced by Nicolas Hoult.

Yikes.

[quote]Harry Styles was originally cast but left the project, then being replaced by Nicolas Hoult.

Nice.

by Anonymousreply 2September 12, 2023 3:28 AM

Ugh. Depp spawn. Hoult is a step up, however.

by Anonymousreply 3September 12, 2023 3:40 AM

I love Robert Eggers so I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but I’m disappointed Anya had to drop out.

by Anonymousreply 4September 12, 2023 3:45 AM

Oh boy, a Gen Z Nosferatu. I’m sure it’ll be called

Nosfera2

At one point an exasperated Dracula will call Van Helsing “bro” and tell him to “go outside and touch some grass.”

Van Helsing will become a strong empowered female character, perhaps a trans sex worker of color.

by Anonymousreply 5September 12, 2023 3:47 AM

A GenZer didn’t make it r5. Robert Eggers is 40. An older Millennial

by Anonymousreply 6September 12, 2023 3:48 AM

Who’s it being made FOR, r6?

by Anonymousreply 7September 12, 2023 3:49 AM

For people who like horror.

by Anonymousreply 8September 12, 2023 3:53 AM

Didn't Willem Defoe already do this in Shadow of the Vampire (2000)?

by Anonymousreply 9September 12, 2023 3:59 AM

That was a movie about the making of Nosferatu. This is a remake of the original.

by Anonymousreply 10September 12, 2023 4:07 AM

Was quite disappointed in The Northman, but I'll give Eggers a chance anytime after The Lighthouse.

by Anonymousreply 11September 12, 2023 4:10 AM

Ugh they even have to ruin movies from 100 years ago

by Anonymousreply 12September 12, 2023 4:12 AM

Is lily Rose Depp playing Nosferatu?

by Anonymousreply 13September 12, 2023 4:13 AM

r12 No one is touching the original, it'll still be there for your enjoyment. That's why I've never been against remakes per se – at their worst, they're just there, being harmless. But at their very best, they can bring a different perspective and even shed new light on the original by helping us think about it in ways we haven't before.

by Anonymousreply 14September 12, 2023 4:55 AM

The original is as exciting as watching paint dry.

by Anonymousreply 15September 12, 2023 4:59 AM

Sure Jan, I’m certain they’re making the movie for 56 year old gay men who make up .5% of the moviegoing audience. Absolutely not the under-25s who make up about 34% of them.

by Anonymousreply 16September 12, 2023 5:04 AM

I just hope Nicholas Hoult finally gets the recognition and fame he deserves.

by Anonymousreply 17September 12, 2023 5:07 AM

R16 FOR HORROR FANS. A lot of horror doesn’t attract only certain ages. Look it up RETARD

by Anonymousreply 18September 12, 2023 1:59 PM

R17 he has more than he deserves. He’s a stiff actor.

by Anonymousreply 19September 12, 2023 2:00 PM

There was a test screening on Tuesday of an early cut of the film.

I predict this will be a huge success!

by Anonymousreply 21September 15, 2023 4:23 PM

r16 So rather than admit you said something stupid, you decided to double down.

Presumably you also think The Witch, The Lighthouse and The Northman were all made for Gen Z too?

by Anonymousreply 22September 15, 2023 4:24 PM

Werner Herzog remade Nosferatu in 1979. His version is beautifully shot and full of dark humor.

One of the problems with the original is that no good copies of it have survived. Bram Stoker’s estate sued for copyright infringement (the story is just Dracula with the characters renamed), and almost all copies of it were destroyed. The few copies that missed the bonfire are pretty scratchy; it makes the movie either duller or more atmospheric, depending on the viewer.

I much prefer my rats to be Methodist meeting-house invested.

by Anonymousreply 24September 15, 2023 4:45 PM

The old style look of Nosferatu is what adds to its atmosphere and horror. HD updates exist and they aren’t nearly as creepy. Add to the fact people love to change the creepy original music to a more light and playful one.

Ok perma-child at r22, so you’re automatically right every time you open your pie hole. Thanks for that. 🙄

Meanwhile, everyone who thinks horror movies aren’t made primarily for your people, raise your hand.

by Anonymousreply 26September 16, 2023 1:37 AM

The original Nosferatu is scary as hell

by Anonymousreply 27September 18, 2023 4:07 AM

R26, I am not the poster you’re arguing with, but as a disinterested third party, I thought you should know that you are DEFINITELY the one who looks like an idiot here.

by Anonymousreply 28September 18, 2023 4:23 AM

More like Nosfera3!

by Anonymousreply 30September 18, 2023 11:56 AM

Imagine getting to rim and suck both Bill and Nicholas off!

by Anonymousreply 31September 18, 2023 3:09 PM

I will see any movie Eggers cares to make. The Witch is in my top five movies. A shame that Anya couldn’t be in it. Perhaps controversially I quite enjoyed Lily-Rose’s performance in The Idol when I hate-watched it recently. The Weeknd, however, ooooooft that was bad.

by Anonymousreply 32September 18, 2023 3:19 PM

Nicholas Hoult? I'd watch him in anything. I loved him in The Favorite, there wasn't enough of him in it, though.

by Anonymousreply 33September 18, 2023 3:44 PM

People criticizing the remake must not be aware of Eggers as an auteur, his love and respect of the horror genre, or the seriousness and exactness with which he makes his films. If we're painting with a broad brush, his films seem designed purposely to isolate Generation Z.

by Anonymousreply 34September 18, 2023 4:13 PM

I hope ATJ and Hoult don't get made up to look ugly in this.

by Anonymousreply 35September 18, 2023 4:20 PM

Eggers is amazing. He is able to create a very distinctive atmosphere in all his movies that completely sucks you in. I love him. I’m glad test audience reactions have been positive. I’m still disappointed about Anya though.

by Anonymousreply 36September 18, 2023 5:25 PM

It's even more disappointing that Eggers was ever willing to even consider Harry Styles. Thank god he's gone.

I don't mind the remake of a movie that was released 100 years ago, now the remake of a 20 year-old movie...

by Anonymousreply 39November 22, 2023 9:50 PM

I like Eggers, but casting an untalented nepo baby isn't a good sign

Ooo I’m already looking forward to it r38.

Eggers can make it work r40.

by Anonymousreply 42November 28, 2023 8:19 PM

What did Nosferatu say about 9/11?

by Anonymousreply 43November 28, 2023 8:29 PM

Why do they keep trying to make her happen? She's a blank onscreen. She looks just like her DNA should have guided her: a waitress at a Tennessee diner.

by Anonymousreply 44November 28, 2023 8:34 PM

Oh, relax r44. At least she wasn’t the first choice. She was second choice after Anya Taylor-Joy had to drop out. Nicholas Hoult is also the second choice, after Harry Styles dropped out.
