‘Nosferatu’ remake set to be released in 2024.
The remake stars Lily-Rose Depp, Nicolas Hoult, Bill Skarsgaard, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Emma Corrin. It’s a reimagining of the original film.
“In the new reimagining, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) in 19th-century Germany, and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Bill Skarsgård) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”
Anya Taylor-Joy was originally cast but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, then being replaced by Lily-Rose Depp. Harry Styles was originally cast but left the project, then being replaced by Nicolas Hoult.

Yikes.

Nice.

Ugh. Depp spawn. Hoult is a step up, however.

I love Robert Eggers so I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but I’m disappointed Anya had to drop out.

Oh boy, a Gen Z Nosferatu. I’m sure it’ll be called
Nosfera2
At one point an exasperated Dracula will call Van Helsing “bro” and tell him to “go outside and touch some grass.”
Van Helsing will become a strong empowered female character, perhaps a trans sex worker of color.

A GenZer didn’t make it r5. Robert Eggers is 40. An older Millennial

Who’s it being made FOR, r6?

Didn't Willem Defoe already do this in Shadow of the Vampire (2000)?

That was a movie about the making of Nosferatu. This is a remake of the original.

Was quite disappointed in The Northman, but I'll give Eggers a chance anytime after The Lighthouse.

Is lily Rose Depp playing Nosferatu?

r12 No one is touching the original, it'll still be there for your enjoyment. That's why I've never been against remakes per se – at their worst, they're just there, being harmless. But at their very best, they can bring a different perspective and even shed new light on the original by helping us think about it in ways we haven't before.

The original is as exciting as watching paint dry.

Sure Jan, I’m certain they’re making the movie for 56 year old gay men who make up .5% of the moviegoing audience. Absolutely not the under-25s who make up about 34% of them.

I just hope Nicholas Hoult finally gets the recognition and fame he deserves.

r16 So rather than admit you said something stupid, you decided to double down.
Presumably you also think The Witch, The Lighthouse and The Northman were all made for Gen Z too?

Werner Herzog remade Nosferatu in 1979. His version is beautifully shot and full of dark humor.
One of the problems with the original is that no good copies of it have survived. Bram Stoker’s estate sued for copyright infringement (the story is just Dracula with the characters renamed), and almost all copies of it were destroyed. The few copies that missed the bonfire are pretty scratchy; it makes the movie either duller or more atmospheric, depending on the viewer.

The old style look of Nosferatu is what adds to its atmosphere and horror. HD updates exist and they aren’t nearly as creepy. Add to the fact people love to change the creepy original music to a more light and playful one.

Ok perma-child at r22, so you’re automatically right every time you open your pie hole. Thanks for that. 🙄
Meanwhile, everyone who thinks horror movies aren’t made primarily for your people, raise your hand.

I will see any movie Eggers cares to make. The Witch is in my top five movies. A shame that Anya couldn’t be in it. Perhaps controversially I quite enjoyed Lily-Rose’s performance in The Idol when I hate-watched it recently. The Weeknd, however, ooooooft that was bad.

Nicholas Hoult? I'd watch him in anything. I loved him in The Favorite, there wasn't enough of him in it, though.

People criticizing the remake must not be aware of Eggers as an auteur, his love and respect of the horror genre, or the seriousness and exactness with which he makes his films. If we're painting with a broad brush, his films seem designed purposely to isolate Generation Z.

Eggers is amazing. He is able to create a very distinctive atmosphere in all his movies that completely sucks you in. I love him. I’m glad test audience reactions have been positive. I’m still disappointed about Anya though.

It's even more disappointing that Eggers was ever willing to even consider Harry Styles. Thank god he's gone.
