Good online house plans

Is anyone else into looking at house plans?

But there are a shit-ton of bad and even not-so-great house plans online.

Know of any online house plan sites that have architect-designed homes with great proportions that look good from all sides?

What kind of house style do you like?

More classic. R1.

Some may trend a bit “McMansiony” and large, but check out Sailer Design.

Build a replica of the Bewitched house! Do it!

by Anonymousreply 7September 12, 2023 12:47 AM

Poorly designed modern floor plans litter the internet.

The site context and how a building responds to it is just so important for architecture that these cannot be described as architecture.

Higher an independent Architect OP, they are real cheap. On the opposite side of the price scale compared to what lawyers or doctors charge.

OP, I love this Instagram account devoted to floor plans of the past.

I love floor plans too, OP.

This is a site where I enjoy searching for different plans - Family Home Plans

These are very traditional, but not awful.

OP, I love looking at floor plans too.

Thanks, everyone, for posting these links.

I will say I feel I should see the entire window of those on on the second floor, from the front. 2nd floor needs to be taller? Or the windows placed higher.

I like the Grove Creek and its hints of gothic. The lighting on the built example is great, especially in the front rooms.

R21 the 2nd story windows should be the same size. The porch could be bigger to be useful.

Wow. I thought I was the only person who loved looking at house plans. I look at them online sometimes but more often prefer to have them in book/magazine form. The modern ones are fun to look at, and as noted above, Southern Living presents some really great ones. But one of my favorite publishers for these plans is Dover books as they republish house plan books from the 20s, 30s, and 40s -- these plans are really fun to look at because 1) they remind me of the houses me and my friends grew up in in the NY Suburbs and 2) you can really see how much tastes have changed, from the size and convenience of bathrooms and closets to open vs. non-open living rooms, etc.

Plans I created for the Bewitched house. I added a separate laundry room from the kitchen and a downstairs bathroom.

Those are some pretty boring houses. Why are you guys wasting so much time on banal Architecture?

by Anonymousreply 25September 12, 2023 9:35 PM

Show us an off-the-shelf, ready made house plant that is non-banal, R25.

by Anonymousreply 26September 12, 2023 10:52 PM

There's your problem OP, I don't bother with online off the shelf anything. As I said before, higher an architect. Or design your own. What you are doing is basically obsessing over the design version of Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee.

by Anonymousreply 27September 13, 2023 3:33 AM

[quote] higher an architect

In the Rocky Mountains?

by Anonymousreply 28September 13, 2023 3:34 AM

^^Hire.

by Anonymousreply 29September 13, 2023 4:07 AM

R27, when did I say I was going to build a house from one of these plans? I said I enjoy looking at them.

Now go away.

by Anonymousreply 30September 13, 2023 12:12 PM

Maybe look at famous well known Architects plans R30. Still a lot better than the 99 cent store schlock you seem to be fascinated by.

by Anonymousreply 31September 13, 2023 11:03 PM

Then post/share some and join the conversation, R31. Or, are you just here to troll?

by Anonymousreply 32September 14, 2023 12:02 AM

"Famous well known Architects [sic]" don't release their plans to the internet, r31. If you knew anything about architects, you'd know that. Everything they do is bespoke and customized for a client and a site. There is nothing wrong with selecting an existing plan and altering it in collaboration with another architect or a builder. And some "off the shelf" plans are quite well designed, so the need for major changes is minimal.
