"The Chase," 1966's All-Star Southern Soap

"The Chase" had top talent from cast, to screenwriters, to director--but the result was a long-winded 1966 southern soap opera that was Tennessee Williams-lite with a dash of Edward Albee. As small town folk shook up when their local ex-con escapes, Robert Redford, Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda, Angie Dickinson, & Robert Duvall do their best. But Janice Rule, Miriam Hopkins, & Henry Hull chew the scenery. And Martha Hyer is hopeless! Horton Foote & Lillian Hellman's script is derivative, hokey, & pokey. Director Arthur Penn regained his footing after "The Chase" with '67's "Bonnie & Clyde." For more, click below...

Redford was so fucking gorgeous in the 60's (and 70's).

Beautiful man and Brando still looked gorgeous in those days too.

Miss Angie Dickinson if you don't mind.

Miriam Hopkins as Redford’s mother.

Cracked me up that Jocelyn Brando, aka Barbara Bennett from Redbook, was cast at 45 as ancient ham Henry Hull's wife!

The trailer is as hokey as the movie, but at least it's shorter, plus you get to see Miriam Hopkins yowl like a banshee!

R7, She always did.

The worst performance is by a hilariously inept Martha Hyer, doing her version of Honey, from "Virginia Woolf."

At least Janice Rule is fun.

Wonder if Janice and Ben ever swapped with Cassavetes & Rowlands?
