What is up with the infantilization of modern society?

I was a part of a group conversation and someone brought up a 17 year old who was cheating on his girlfriend, and someone said that’s messed up, so the person who brought it up defended the 17 year old guy by saying “he’s 17, the brain isn’t developed enough yet to understand right from wrong yet at 17”. WTF.

While I agree that a 17 year old cheating is not far fetched, they’re teens with raging hormones, it’s ridiculous to say 17 year olds don’t understand right from wrong. They aren’t 3 year olds. At 17 I knew what was right and what was wrong. Whether I always chose right is a different topic but I knew I was taking a risk. This idea that modern people have is absurd to me. “The brain doesn’t fully develop until around 24/25!” Doesn’t mean a 17 year old doesn’t know right from wrong. Enough is enough.

I know 8 year olds that will tell you something is wrong or bad yet 17 is still too young to know? Give me a break.

TL;DR

But he's 38! He's just a kid!

It's a dumb argument anyway, given that 1000000s of fully grown and fully developed adults cheat all the time. This isn't anything much to do with knowing right from wrong but not caring about it.

We do have extended adolescence these days. People aren't getting married and popping out kids super young much anymore. They tend to live with their parents longer and they take awhile before they reach the type of "adult metrics" we think of.

Gay men who aren't having kids lecture straight people for not having kids....

by Anonymousreply 5August 30, 2023 11:43 PM

A 17 year old is a fucking child. I fucked random ugly older men at 17.

by Anonymousreply 6August 30, 2023 11:56 PM

I'm not lecturing anyone for not having kids r5, just pointing out how things have changed.

How old are you OP and why were you taking part in a conversation about a 17 year old's sex life? Sounds trashy as fuck.
