Ultimately, it's up to the person who has it whether they want to completely depigment the remainder of their melanated skin. MJ was not the first or last person to do so. Obviously, he was very vain, and I remember when I was a kid, everyone said he bleached his skin "to be more white." Well, yes and no. He had his skin depigmented to match the depigmentation that had already occurred.
