A Royal Wedding Sequel?

Taylor did a great job, but if they had decided not to age up the characters over the book, Xolo Mariduena (who’s currently starring as Blue Beetle) would have been a good choice. He’s 10 years younger than Taylor and is absolutely adorable. He also has a lovely penis. (Still waiting to see his ass, which I’m sure is also lovely.)
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 27, 2023 7:58 PM |
Xolo is cute R3, but he doesn't have .... "gravitas."
There's something dignified and mature about Taylor, which makes it believable that he could be the President's son.
And Alex had to have the maturity to be able to stand up to a Royal Prince, and go toe-to-toe with him.
Xolo is more of an every day kind of guy. More middle class and approachable.
Taylor (with his modeling background) gives off an air of worldliness, that was needed for the character in this movie.
I just couldn't see Xolo wining and dining a British Royal Prince.
Taylor was much more believable in the role.

R1 I want him to put my head between his thighs until I pass out
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 27, 2023 9:28 PM |
I have to agree with R4. Xolo is likable, but he's one of those actors who basically plays himself all the time. (Jaime in "Blue Beetle" is largely similar to Miguel on "Cobra Kai." Strong fighter who goes into Beast Mode whenever someone mentions "family," the Pavlovian tic he picked up watching the entire "Fast & Furious" series on repeat.) Cute, but lacking in gravitas.
That said, Alex in the book seems more like Xolo, but I'm in the camp who thinks the movie's setup is better than the book's. I don't think the plot needed three more primary female characters – Alex's sister, the Second Daughter, and Henry's sis (including the rather ridiculous "White House Trio," considering the VP's kid clearly doesn't live there!) – except for purposes of a cis female trying to make it "relatable" to people like herself. Alex is much more of a dick, much *less* composed and suave, and generally much more unusually immature than onscreen, but Taylor makes the slightly older version work.

Most fans of this movie seem to think that Nicholas Galitzine will have a bigger career than Taylor Perez.
I'm not so sure about that.

Taylor was fantastic in this. I found myself wishing I could actually vote for him when he was doing all the political stuff, especially during his speech about coming out.
And I’ve been mesmerized by the way he grinded his hips into Nicholas during the couch makeout scene. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything sexier.

I think Perez will run into the same problem as Freddie Prinze Jr in terms of career. His best shot at a bigger career is a franchise like Paul Walker had with The Fast and the Furious, not a Marvel or Star Wars. Otherwise, he'll end up like Chris Klein, Seann William Scott, and others who had a couple big teen movies, but faded fast. I can see him doing Hallmark movies if something doesn't click for him.
Galitzine is a better actor and has a shot at a decent career if the upcoming AnnE and Julianne Moore movies do well.

Taylor and Nick are cute together.
They have good chemistry.
I'd love to see them do a sequel to this movie.
Maybe a wedding?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 29, 2023 3:30 AM |
A wedding as a sequel sounds like the most tedious and uninteresting sequel possible.
As several people have pointed out in the now-banned RWRB subreddit, in order for a movie to be interesting, there has to be conflict. Now that they're out and getting married is (still) legal in the US and Britain and multiple royals have married commoners, there isn't anything contentious about their getting married in itself.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 29, 2023 2:31 PM |
R19, I can see a conflict: The heir falls off his polo horse or some other absurdity like getting cracked in the head with a polo mallet and he dies. Henry's Mother decides to dedicate her life to saving the whales and the King has a stroke, he may be on his deathbed. All of this happens shortly after Alex and Henry announce their engagement and are making wedding plans. Suddenly Henry is no longer the Spare, he is the Heir. And the King tries mightily to discourage, sabotage and stop the marriage. He wants Henry to put aside this "phase" and get on with his duties with someone more suitable. Meanwhile, Alex has already committed to running for Congress to replace his father who is retiring as Mother's second term draws to a close. So there is "conflict" a real shit mess actually. WTF are they gonna do??????
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 29, 2023 2:57 PM |
The conflict is that they’re both insatiable bottoms.

I will add that Henry becomes king, and he gets Parliament to change the law (if it isn't already changed) and he abdicates so his sister can become Queen. He runs off to be with Alex who wins his seat, and everyone has their happy ending. (pun intended.)

[quote]I will add that Henry becomes king, and he gets Parliament to change the law (if it isn't already changed) and he abdicates so his sister can become Queen. He runs off to be with Alex who wins his seat, and everyone has their happy ending. (pun intended.)
As Henry's mother is already the heir to the throne, if Henry withdraws, she will become Queen if the older brother is also dead and has no heirs with the wife he married which precipitated cakegate.
Henry is right about one thing, if Alex becomes a congressman or takes any other political office, Henry would be trading one prison for another - to paraphrase Henry, he can "love him (Alex) and want to be with him and still not want that life."
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 29, 2023 10:18 PM |
Tell us more about winning his “seat”.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 29, 2023 10:32 PM |
When I said Henry's mother decides to dedicate her life to saving the whales, I meant that she leaves the RF and has no interest in becoming Queen. This is when the King starts trying to sabotage and pressure Henry to come back. So, tension. Thus, crisis #1 comes when Mummy deserts. Crisis #2 comes when the heir gets whacked in the head and dies. This is more than the King can handle. He becomes ill. Eventually he strokes out. Henry must come home.

First, if I were Alex, my had would have been grabbing Henry's ass, not sliding up and down his sides.
Second, if I were Henry, I wouldn't be supporting my weight on my knees. I'd be pressing my body into Alex and grinding into crotch.

[quote][R28] you're describing something that would happen in real life, ..... or without an "intimacy coach" on a movie set.
I get that.
Since the starting point of "intimacy coaches" is what each of the actors is comfortable doing, it suggests that one or both of them were not comfortable with a more intimate scene which would have been more natural looking.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 30, 2023 5:00 PM |
R28 Yes, I noticed that too, there is a noticeable lack of ass grabbing or tounge kissing that two guys who are actually fucking would engage in, but they still manage to generate some serious heat in their very tasteful sex scenes.
And when they do end up having a full on sex it was so beautiful, sweet and intimate that I was moved to tears, much to my surprise.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 30, 2023 8:30 PM |
In general I thought they were pretty good and convincing on the little signs of affection front, even in less obvious moments. For example, there was a throw-away scene of them holding hands and looking at something and Henry was also gently stroking Alex's hand with his finger, which was presumably the actor's initiative and not scripted.

From the last thread:
[quote]This guy is at the same point Timotee was after CMBYN all the teenage girls and freaky fraus and old pervs are staning him. In a couple of years he'll be discarded and a new "it" twink will come up. That's the way the" business" works.
Have you been in a coma the past 5-6 years? Timothée has been one of THE hottest actors, period, for a long time now, and his career's only gone UP since CMBYN. (In stark contrast to his costar's.) Yes, he HAD teen girls, frauen and old pervs hot for his jock, but now he has pretty much everyone up in his grille. "Dune" is the closest thing it gets nowadays to an all-star cast, but Timmy's at the top of the first and second ones.
[quote]Henry is right about one thing, if Alex becomes a congressman or takes any other political office, Henry would be trading one prison for another - to paraphrase Henry, he can "love him (Alex) and want to be with him and still not want that life."
R24, I think you missed the main point of that scene. Henry was talking about HIMSELF being "imprisoned" by the same British royal family duties that Harry & Meghan escaped from. It's a duty and a requirement of royalty, not something he *wants*. Alex OTOH *badly* wants a career in politics, because he's idealistic and thinks he can use a role in politics to achieve positive change. Unless Henry is somehow far more selfish than anything we saw on the show (or in the book), I'm not seeing why he wouldn't want Alex to do whatever it does that makes him happy. (Aside from fucking Henry, of course.)
It's certainly possible that Henry could end up hating being the spouse of an elected official who's constantly busy, or Alex's idealism could run smack dab into the reality that America doesn't have many openly gay politicians for a reason (and definitely none from Texas), and he could face both bigotry and defeat of his political goals.
I mean, really: if you can't come up with interesting drama involving a literal British prince and the American president's son, you shouldn't be writing, period.

[quote][R24], I think you missed the main point of that scene. Henry was talking about HIMSELF being "imprisoned" by the same British royal family duties that Harry & Meghan escaped from
No, he was making the point that being with Alex would be no different than the goldfish bowl he's already living in.
[quote]Henry: My life is the crown and yours is politics, and I will not trade one prison for another...I can love you and want you and still not want that life.
"That life" is a life in politics with all the constraints and limitations.

I listen to the Big Picture podcast sometimes. They discussed this movie a bit. Overall they didn't like it and called it hallmarky (which I think is a fair opinion to have even though I enjoyed it in spite of that), but they also called out Taylor and Nicholas for not having much chemistry and heat together. Which I thought the guys did fine on that front.

Why do some people insist on investing pretentions of importance into something when they do not exist. Take it for what it was, and not what you think it should be. I can agree with some of what the podcasters said, but so what? I enjoyed it for what it was. All these criticisms, IMO point to one thing: We need more variety, we're hungry for it. We really are. More Gay themed stories, with more frequency so we won't sit here wallowing in the shoulda, woulda, coulda. I 've watched it four times because it's fun and they are hot. And I'd honestly love to see something like this turned into a Gay sit com.

R34: That is a lovely little moment during the confrontation with the King, where Alex reaches over and offers the signet ring on his hand for Henry to play with, knowing the Prince’s nervous habit of fiddling with it in stressful situations.
They really did take great care in bringing these characters and their adorable relationship to life by adding sweet non-verbal interactions like that. It’s such a swoony film!

I think this is actually the wrong takeaway.
All you need to do is review DL threads about Bros to know that there is something more to it and needing more variety or wanting more gay-themed stories.

R46, all I meant was that we get a movie like this and we focus on it so closely , every single frame, and I just think if we had more variety and choices we wouldn't invest this with such high expectations and just enjoy it for what it is. Of course it's flawed and it's fluff, but it stands out because there is so little else out here. I can't even count the number of Rom Coms and dramedies out here for straight people. Not so for Gay centric stuff.

Villars was married with children. He used his "charms" on the old pathetic James I who also was married with children. They both very much identified as heterosexual. Yet in the 50 + yo King James "love letters" to the 24 yo Villars he writes of longing for the site of his beautiful face and body, the tender touch of his hands and refers to himself as Villars "husband" and George Villars as his "wife" Don't know how the "hetero normative" establishment historians can spin that one. Many in Parliament believed Villars and Charles had poisoned King James. They loathed the corrupt "bugger" Villars as they called him. The personal and political relationship between James I and George Villiers was similar to that of Edward II and Piers Gaveston 300 years earlier. Both kings were accused by the aristocracy of promoting their untalented young "lovers" to undeserved positions of power over titled gentry who despised them. Consequently both "favorites" met violent ends. Although James didn't get a hot poker up his arse like Edward, the ill will caused by the incompetent and corrupt Villiers directly led to the revolution that cost Villiers' chum King Charles his throne and his head.

Finding that random video is pretty impressive, but the leap that they're a couple or married isn't so big when you consider that this Garrett Gerson person was all over Perez's social media...then, not. Also, why would he introduce himself as "Taylor Gerson" in that video which would be just weird no matter how you slice it.
You don't just randomly switch out your last name to once of your friend's last names for no reason. This Gerson person looks like he might hit big with the 3D textile company, not billionaire big, but certainly very financially comfortable. [quote]Internet detectives have tracked down a video of Taylor Zachary Perez introducing himself as Tyler Gerson. So him and Garrett Gerson are definitely secretly married and Miss Taylor was the bride who took his last name.
While I know you bitches love nothing more than a possible HOMOSEXUALIST SCANDAL (gasp!), I'm afraid there are a variety of explanations for the admittedly odd name-change thing that have nothing to do with anyone's orientation. One is plain-old racism: that video was from the Trump era, and as we know Latinos weren't exactly being welcomed with open arms then (particularly at resorts catering to rich white people). Or Taylor was in fake-it-till-you-make-it mode and took a side gig with a PR company if only to pay the bills, but used an assumed name thinking it wouldn't get back to him once he hit it big. (If so, he clearly underestimated the skills of online sleuths.) As such, he assumed his best friend's last name (presumably Garrett didn't mind) and a slight variation of his real first name.
Finally, that was also before all the 2020 fuckery with George Floyd and much-improved consideration of racial minorities: before then, Taylor would've had a double-whammy of sorts from having a name that's both Latino and Arabesque.
One other possibility, and you cunts better sit down for this one: what if his real name IS Tyler Gerson; Garrett is his ACTUAL brother; and he made up a dual Hispanic/Arab name to improve his chances of getting cast? (If so, it SURE AS FUCK WORKED.)

I’m reading the novel atm while listening to the movie soundtrack. I really love this playlist, and the book is great fun, with more space for political machinations and the initially prickly relationship between Alex and Henry.

What is right in front of all of our eyes is Taylor – assuming the identity of Tyler Gerson, for reasons unknown – doing a generic PR video nearly five years ago, and given that the IG account ostensibly has accounts from the company's own employees, the only thing one can reasonably assume is that he worked there. Feel free to spin as elaborate a scenario as possible about the fictional love affair between Taylor & Garrett, but do so knowing it's a conspiracy theory that makes you no better than some Trumpist-ass Karen.

It's a pretty common image from the movie promotional material.
I suppose that doesn't mean it's not photoshop, but why they'd do it when they have both actors available and had been taking all sorts of promo pix is weird.

I've decided to leave speculation regarding Nicholas's sexual orientation behind. It's really none of our business.
Whatever dating life he has he obviously keeps very private, and we should respect that.

Nicholas said he was straight and I believe him. Taylor refuses to define himself. I think he will gradually come out over time.

[quote] Nicholas Galitzine Is a Proud 'Bottom' in New Behind-the-Scenes Pic
Nicholas Galitzine and Miles Fowler are teasing us with a cheeky new photo released from behind the scenes of their latest movie!
In the photo, taken from the set of Emma Seligman’s new movie Bottoms, the two actors are leaning against each other, their butts turned towards the camera, with booty shorts labeling the two actors as “bottoms.”
Galiztine and Fowler are co-starring in the queer high school comedy where they play two dumb-as-rocks football players who have it out for the two lead characters, PJ (co-writer Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri). Now, it appears they’ve become the "bottoms" themselves.
In Bottoms, Galitzine plays Jeff, the school’s star quarterback and boyfriend to Isabel, the cheerleader that Josie has a crush on. He’s hilarious in the film, and he and Miles Fowler, who plays football player and popular kid Tim, teams up with him to make a hilarious version of prototypical dumb horny high school jocks.
While Galitzine very convincingly plays a meathead jock in Bottoms, he also recently starred in Prime Video’s Red, White & Royal Blue, where he won hearts and stole scenes as the restrained and refined Prince Henry.
In the movie, Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the US president, are forced to spend time together after they cause an international incident at a royal wedding. Soon, the two fall deeply in love.
With both Red, White & Royal Blue and Bottoms, Galitzine is currently starring in two of the biggest queer movies around. And we love him for it!

While he is older, 31, he's relatively new to the Hollywood and celebrity scene. I sincerely doubt that he has high-powered PR people working for him.
He's probably just listening to people who have as little experience as he does.
The reality is that it doesn't take much to derail a career this early on and, let's face it, homophobia is alive and kicking still in Hollywood.

[quote]Nicholas Galitzine is the only straight male involved with this movie???
The fuck?? The actual orientations of the cast are unknown as far as we know – and many of you cunts are VERY good detectives – and where, specifically, did you see Nicholas claim he's straight? (And in what context?) I know some DLers remain in persistent denial of this reality, but the vast majority of Hollywood actors actually *are* straight, much like the large majority of people in general.
In any event, queer filmmaking seems to be heading down two distinctly different paths. One is the standard one we've seen for eons: straight actors (or, at least, actors without publicly known orientations) playing gay. (Or bi, if we're including the admitted hottie in "The Summer I Turned Pretty.") The other is novel and promising: gay films made by gay filmmakers, and starring largely or entirely queer casts. I know "Bros" didn't do well – mostly because it sucked – but it easily fits these criteria, as does last year's "Fire Island" (or even the "Queer as Folk" reboot on Peacock cancelled after a single season). And, of course, DL fave "Heartstopper" obviously does as well.

Nick has given several interviews over the years including for this movie specifying he is straight r136. He has been upfront about that since his first gay role in Handsome Devil.

Running joke in fiilm is Galitzine's character Prince Henry claims to be 6'2". No way are either of these guys 6'2". Taylor Perez is listed as 6'1 and Galitzine is admitting to 6'0". Have my doubts
by Anonymous | reply 139 | September 18, 2023 5:14 AM |
I don't care if they're Gay or straight if they tell a good story and they do a good job. The fact is, Gay actors have been playing straight characters since the beginning of time, and they have been very convincing

Lol R143 his dad must have known he was a little gayling, because he was so fussy about wanting a particular hairstyle, and the dad said "Fuck it. I have no idea what you want, so pick it out of this magazine."

I made it about 50 pages into the book and about 5 minutes into the film.
What was the budget for this? British Bakeoff seems to use better quality cameras.

by Anonymous | reply 149 | October 1, 2023 12:15 PM |
The best thing that could happen for Taylor is for him to land a TV series with an ensemble cast like Friends, or something. He could do passably well and would be entertaining. Lord knows I'd watch him... But not some silly high school bullshit. Something kind of smart.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | October 1, 2023 1:58 PM |

VOTN, yes he is, which was clear to anyone with a brain when he did the garbage series with Joey King, one of the most unappealing actresses I have ever become acquainted with. Ugh. I think the name of it was "Kissing Booth" Absolute garbage. And Taylor did decent work, he just had nothing to work with.

by Anonymous | reply 154 | October 26, 2023 9:49 PM |
Finally watched this.
It was enjoyable. Fun and cute, laugh-out-loud funny at moments, and of course, all the feels at other moments.
It got me thinking about how completely uncontroversial this movie was upon release, and how amazing it would have been to have something like this come out as I was coming of age, without it being "shocking". As I was starting college, the movie "Making Love" came out. SO MUCH CONTROVERSY. I snuck away my closeted self to see it in a theater where nobody could possibly know me, without telling my parents (whom I still lived with) or friends or anyone. It was kinda gutting, not fun like this movie.
I try to imagine how much better life would have been, how much less fucked up I'd be about things, if movies like this, and shows like Heartstopper and Sex Education were around when I was coming of age. I had no 'mentor', and most media representations of gay men were either sicko perverts, suicidal sad-sacks, disease-ridden tragic stories of dying young, or clowns/comic-relief. That's when you saw it at all. Like, the most normal person I remember from that time growing up closeted in High School was Jody from "Soap".
Anyway. I'm not much into rom-coms but I make an exception for this, and I'm glad this exists.
