It's on Prime. It's eight episodes so it requires a commitment but it's hysterically funny. It takes place in a Tasmanian town colonized a decade ago by lesbians who are despised by the local men. The mutilated bodies of town bullies start piling up and a foul-mouthed lesbian investigator from out-of-town is sent in to aid the local cop, also a lesbian. There's an annual festival featuring a lesbian chorale singing "I touch myself" by the Divinyls. Much hilarity ensues.
Is anyone watching, Deadloch, the Australian comedy-murder mystery?

I’m going to check it out.

Very funny, very good. Typically Australian (blue) comedic notes—what’s not to love?

Loved it, OP!

Thanks OP, will try and report back.

It’s very funny and has high production values for an Australian streamer. Has a bit of a Kath n Kim vibe but with dead people!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 29, 2023 10:49 AM |
That’s not funny.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 29, 2023 1:21 PM |
It's funny and worth watching.

Am now, thanks OP! Needed something just like this.

I loved it! I recommend another Australian series, Frayed. Similar sense of humor.

Funny lesbian is an oxymoron.

This sounds really funny. It better be funny like The Windsors, an A+ DL recommendation, and not a dud like Schitt's Creek.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 30, 2023 12:56 AM |
I love all the cunting.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 30, 2023 12:46 PM |
It was very good. So much cunting.

R9 yeah we watched Frayed, it was great. Set mostly in Newcastle, which is very similar to the town I grew up in

Yes! I loved it!

Really enjoyed it. From that part of the world and funny as well: Fisk.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 30, 2023 3:23 AM |
Wish we could get Fisk's second season.

For those who like Deadloch, it is written by the Kates, who have become quite the Australian comedy institution. The link is to an episode of their first hit, The Katering Show, which is a few years old now. There are many other examples of their work on YouTube if you like them.

Thank you, r18, for posting that link. I've been watching their sketch comedy and it's so FUNNY! This is the first funny thing DL has recommended since The Windsors!

Male nudity?

There is some in the first episode. I don't know about the rest.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 7, 2023 1:18 AM |
Thank you, OP, I am going to check the series out. I need a good laugh.

OP, I am currently watching, The Sixth Commandment on prime about a gay priest. It’s a great unsettling, shocking and tragic four part true story series. He has always longed for a gay relationship. Finally, in his elderly years he finds a twink (to him) and he is thrilled. But is this twink legit…?

R23 Thanks, but I’m trying to keep things light these days.

So glad you liked it, R20. You will never again see risotto as anything but "hot, wet rice".
Their subsequent show was called Get Krackin'. It's a sendup of morning TV, and they also star in it. At least some of that is on YouTube as well. They were much admired before Deadloch, but it has really cemented them as a force in comedy.
Other recent Australian comedies that are on streaming are Fisk (Netflix, I believe) and Colin from Accounts (should be on a Fox-related outlet, as it's on Binge here which is a bit like HBO Max). Not Kate-related, and not as DL-style mordant as Kate McCartney, but both of them light and truly funny.

Thank you, r26/r18. I came back to ask for more suggestions.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 20, 2023 1:24 AM |
Colin from Accounts? He should give me a jingle. We have so much to talk about and share!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 20, 2023 2:16 AM |
I watched the first few episodes, but that second lead, Madeleine Sami, playing Eddie Redcliffe is so fucking annoying I found myself yelling at the TV. I had to turn it off.

Oof, that show was terrible. The chaos didn’t quite work.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 20, 2023 2:34 AM |
Sorry, Ginny, but Colin is the dog in the show.

R19/27, I really enjoyed the new The Artful Dodger, which is Australian. It's on Disney here. Looks like maybe Hulu in the States? One of the writer-producers is Andrew Knight, who was a major force on Rake, and although billed as a drama it has that same lightness of touch and a lot of funny moments. David Thewlis is wonderful as Fagin.
