LOVE the 1995 P&P.
Colin Firth is by far the best Darcy. Love Saffy as Lydia. My only complaint is that Jane is not nearly beautiful enough. I will give Rosamund Pike that she was very attractive and made a great Jane in the Keira Knightley P&P.

You'd best ask that of the sock users who run dozens of accounts here. They're 𝑤𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑦 more concerned about comments on an anonymous board than I am.
As for that thread, I just stick it in a file and forget about it. But were someone to ask about it, I could answer, maybe, if it suited me.

Trash. A total howler that drags the story through the mud.
Full of forehead slappers when it comes to depicting the period. At the end, Darcy and Elizabeth are in a carriage and they kiss. IN PUBLIC. In the early 19th century? She might as well have sucked him off in the carriage — that would have been no more scandalous.
The 1980 version is much more faithful to the book, and the period. And considering that it’s arguably the greatest novel written in the English language, staying faithful is important, isn’t it?

I agree that the 1995 P & P is the best version that I have seen. It was able to incorporate more of the scenes from the novel than the much shorter later film. I didn't see the 1980 version. However, just this past Saturday I saw Pride and Prejudice the Musical at a summer theater near me. VERY ODD! The music was very anachronistic to the period, the play was quite miscast, and Bingley was played as an absolute imbecile. The voices were mostly ok, but large swaths of the story were left out and it ended up feeling a bit "ranty", honing in on Elizabeth Bennet's independent streak and how society of the day frowned upon independent women as the biggest takeaway of the novel, instead of the character growth that both Darcy and Elizabeth undergo over the course of the novel. It also missed most of the humor. There was every sort of accent displayed, none of them sounding the least bit authentic. I applaud the intent, but I'm not sure that this novel in particular lends itself to adaptation as a musical.

I love her dearly, and know she doesn't realize what she's doing/not doing. And because she's such a strong Christian she doesn't see her issues as needing therapy outside prayer/fasting. So psych therapy is great for me, but it's not something she needs, because God.

She knows what she's doing. Why not just drive off? She'll call you when she sees you're not outside the church, sitting in your car, waiting for her.
Why are you making excuses for her? She should be more considerate of you, since you're the one who's now impoverished, taking care of your parents.
What's next? She inherits all of your parents' assets?

I was moaning about my general dissatisfaction with my life and he said "Just do something different. Even if it turns out to be wrong, just do something different". I know that he thinks I over think decisions, even restaurant choices, so I get where he's coming from but still....

R283, going to a different restaurant you may dislike is hardly “creating new problems in your life.” There's a spectrum; make a change on the low-risk end to start, or stop bitching about your “general dissatisfaction.”

I'm polishing my nails with a Revlon emory board, examining my newly-arrived Bissell Little Green Machine, listening to Dawn Upshaw sing Vernon Duke songs and drinking a blood orange sparkling water.
The Little Green Machine was bought to shampoo carpets (much is made of cleaning up "animal accidents") and makes me wonder if it wouldn't be easier to pay someone else to do this. I'm averse to that as long as I can do it myself. But there are parts and instructions and it weighs ten pounds when it's full of fluids. And there's steam involved. So now I wonder, use it or lose it?

Just got back from the post office and Aldi.
If you find yourself in the vicinity of an Aldi this week, I highly recommend the Tiramisu and the Profiteroles in the frozen section. Last year during Italian week I only got one of each and regretted not stocking up. This time I got two of each. Also the frozen toasted ravioli are nice to have on hand for lazy days and only $3.99.

I changed into my "yard work" clothes planning to rake some leaves and tend to some other yard maintenance. But I've been sitting here for over twenty minutes now and it's not going to happen. As soon as I get some motivation, I'm going to change back into my regular clothes.
Does anyone else have designated "yard work" clothes? Old comfy clothes that you don't care if they get stained or whatever. The adult version of "play clothes" I suppose.

R430, A 3rd time?! The story itself fascinated me, but the movie was so....unsuspenseful. Like, the minute she asked, "What is the 'R' for?" in the carpark, the air went out of the balloon. I also didn't care for the device of The Spirit of King Richard.

Just home from the cardiologist's office. EKG is perfect, BP was 110 over 60 which, he said, is perfect, and I've lost 20 pounds, not the 15 I gave myself credit for. Or rather, my scale did. I like theirs better.
The doc, OTOH, has gained a few pounds which surprised me: he's short, so it shows, has always been in noticeably great shape for a guy in his 50's, and has always worn well-tailored suits. He can't button the jacket of the suit he was wearing today. He must be in love and someone's feeding him OR he's out in the kitchen looking for love, not finding it, and feeding his feelings with cheesecake instead.

Pressing an ice pack to my left cheek. I had two dental implant posts placed this morning. I'm too lazy or sedated to drive to the drugstore for the Rx Amoxicillin and the Oxycontin but that's OK because I have some from last time. After this heals, one more implant/crown in December followed by five crowns/veneers over the winter 2024. Then seriously clean the lower eight teeth in the center that will then be a yellower shade than all the new stuff. These eight are the last of my own, real teeth.

I've shopped there a grand total of zero times since last November. I did use the membership to have a flat tire repaired as that is one of the membership benefits regardless of where you bought the tires. Looking at washing machines online. The drain pump on the 22 year-old Whirlpool - according to the error code - died this morning at the end of the cycle. I’ll get a repair estimate, but would rather have a ventless dryer so probably won’t fix it. The units are stacked so you can’t just buy a new washing machine.
But the idea of wringing out wet towels in the bathtub again may have me shopping in Costco before too long. They’ve been in the dryer for an hour and they’re still damp.

I Maire Kondo'd the guest room in preparation for holiday guests. I now have a big box of items that "do not spark joy" to donate. I'll drop off the donations tomorrow because I don't want the clutter of the big box.

Put some fish squares in my counter-top oven. In 35 min, they’re done and crispy on the outside and tender n flaky on the inside. I hope.

Maybe OP is talking about this type of weird particle-board looking Morton’s grilled fish pieces I bought accidentally?

He's talking about the breaded pieces of fish you usually get in a fish sandwich / burger for a chain restaurant.

Tried to watch an old episode of One Day At AcTine on Pluto. Had to turn it off because it was so ridiculous. I’ve seen it before but I was a kid then. This was the one where Alex ran away from his mom’s home in Chicago to move in with Ann and Barbara in Indianapolis.

Cleaning up after the appliance repair guy (big, cute 20's bear, btw) fixed the washing machine in the laundry room upstairs. It didn't need a new drain pump, just to have the old one cleared up. Detergent residue and threads/fluff in the wash water gunked up the outlet, causing it not to drain. Charged me $150, not the $380 he estimated.
