[quote]The DNC, which inundates my junk email account daily, is fundraising off of "Jennifer Rene Psaki", celebrating her move to prime time on Mondays, with an online poll and survey questions about her performance. Seemed a bit surprising as she's no longer in gov't.
She's probably going to be used as a media surrogate for a few campaigns during election season, so the DNC wants to poll how favorably she's viewed.

He actually did the show on Monday -- his "last" Monday before Jen Psaki takes over the slot next week -- so perhaps he took off on this Friday because he'd already done his usual 4 days. He also had Psaki on his Monday show and mentioned that he could still be seen in the slot on Tuesdays through Fridays.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 23, 2023 10:20 PM |
Chris, Alex, and Lawrence were all off this Friday. Maybe their contracts stipulate they get the Autumnal Equinox off.

Anyone else surprised (impressed?) that Cassidy is making her TV interview debut with Rachel as opposed to one of the prime time news shows like Dateline or 20/20 with Diane Sawyer? Of course, 15 years ago Barbara Walters would have been a no-brainer.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 24, 2023 10:25 AM |
On my guide this morning it’s showing Cassidy will be featured on this morning’s CBS Sunday Morning, so maybe Rachel won’t actually be the first interview? Or maybe Rachel’s will be the first LIVE interview. We shall see.

Jen Psaki likes to talk to people with her head on a slant. As she keeps talking, and gets more intense, her head twists just a bit more.

by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 26, 2023 3:41 AM |
Joy Reid spent a considerable amount of time on her show bashing Senator Menendez and talking about what a garbage person he is…which is all true. It seems totally unfair to these other hosts to have to censor their own comments to avoid offending a fellow employee who happens to be his daughter. It’s just too awkward having Alicia working at this network with such a major story involving a family member.

[QUOTE]Steve Schmidt is BONKERS, but in a good way.
The bonkers was realized internally at Lincoln Project by creators and colleagues who no longer retweet or quote tweet him in any way. He's on his own island on his Twitter account, unless I missed something recent.
Yes, I'm familiar with their internal turmoil with Weaver and Schmidt's admission to being a victim of childhood sexual abuse. But there must have been something more for such a cut-off.

Not on Twitter. What did he say?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 26, 2023 1:54 PM |
Not at all, r65, I'd rather heart the story from the author herself, not through the host reading from her book.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 26, 2023 2:02 PM |
I'd always liked what Eddie Glaude had to say until I read about that 'I Can't Vote For Hillary' bullshit.
There are a whole lot of people that should publicly beg for forgiveness. He's one.
Can't find him being dragged on Twitter. Any hints as to where we can see some push-back on Glaude?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 26, 2023 2:24 PM |
^This Twitter link is from actress Yvette Nicole Brown, who read Eddie for filth and had a lot of people backing her up. He even responded at one point.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 26, 2023 3:03 PM |
Thank you, R72.
I'm pondering this tweet in the thread:
[quote]Man Flo @themanflo Aug 10
[quote]My opinion, we have to let it go and keep the focus on the immediate danger that is Trump. We need every soldier we can get, the fallen ones included. I think he's back on track and that's good enough for me. We can't fight each other, too much on the line. Eyes on the prize.
Worth considering?
He may be back on track but it seems he is attempting to erase his past. He blocks people that call him out. And he took his name off his Time Magazine article "My Democratic Problem With Voting for Hillary Clinton."
But there are many insufficiently repentant Republicans. Charlie Sykes is one. The MJ people. At least Tim Miller owns his actions.
I wonder if anyone has ever called out the MSNBC anchors for continuing to elevate him without putting his conversion into context?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 26, 2023 3:49 PM |
^Good questions. People have a problem with Nicolle always featuring him (Eddie) on her show given his problematic voting history. I have seen that he blocks people who call him out, and he has said on Twitter that he regrets not voting for Hillary, but I think he should not appear on these shows without at least addressing what he did and how he's trying to make up for it.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 26, 2023 4:47 PM |
Not trying to defend Eddie as I'm no fan either but how do you really know he hasn't been on an MSNBC show or 2 or 3 over the years and addressed his regrets? Do you watch Eddie 24/7?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 26, 2023 4:49 PM |
He might have, but I've never seen him admit on TV to not voting for Hillary. It's him and people like him who are partially responsible for the mess this country is currently in.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 26, 2023 4:54 PM |
I ADORE Steve Schmidt. He's so erudite and heartfelt, and I really missed him while he was away fixing his brokenness.
I'm loving Joy having him on her show these last few weeks. His podcast is worth the subscription. He reminds me of the old network stalwarts like Newman, David Brinkley, or Ralph Wiley who also did not suffer fools.
Plus my sister and I call him Nomi (my late Maine Coon) because he and SS have the same "Asperger-y" mien. That spectrum gaze. Kinda sweet and almost fragile.

Team Alicia.
Who else gets the feeling Alicia was probably against her father's new relationship from the get-go? That first introduction to the now-Mrs. Menendez had to arouse the suspicions of an adult daughter who knew her father's weaknesses and was trained as a journalist to uncover the truth.
Alicia's first words to her father when the second scandal broke? "I told you so!" (Followed by: "fool me once...")

R187, I was SO pissed off at both Rep. Swalwell and especially Michael Steele in their Reidout segment about McCarthy's ouster yesterday. Steele pushed back on Joy to the point of being rude and combative, and Swalwell for all his fiery interviews during the Trump years is now acting like a craven politician going along to get along.
This is EXACTLY why I don't trust ANY of those Republicans littering MSNBC, CNN, and the editorial sections of the press. And just this morning on MJ, Joe went gangster on Mika when she voiced support for K-Mac's ouster, and she didn't deserve any of that vitriol.
So-colled "Recovering Republicans" Nicolle, David Jolly, Jennifer Rubin, Bill Kristol, David Frum, John McWhorter, I'll forever side-eye you, too.
The only three reformed Republicans I have mad respect for are my beloved Steve Schmidt, Kurt Bardella, and Richard Painter (BTW, whatever happened to him? I never see him anymore), all of whom actually left the Republican Party AND joined the Democratic Party.

One doesn't have to be registered as a Republican to advance Republican talking points in the way you frame and write about current events.
As Josh Marshall says about Washington DC, most news persons are wired for Republicans. (Mostly the males, but that's another discussion.)
For an astounding major example, consider how the NYT covered Hilary Clinton versus how they cover - or didn't/don't cover - DJT's various criminal actions. Consider even what gets printed above the fold vs what gets printed below the fold or somewhere buried in the A section.
Though that seems to be controlled by editors, it doesn't change the argument about the difference between coverage of Democrats vs coverage of Republicans.
Consider, for example, Clinton's emails versus DJT's spilling of nuclear secrets. Or more currently, what the NYT has to say, or doesn't say about DJT's discussing Israeli national security with the Russians. See if you can find an analysis of how those actions may have been a contributing factor in the current conflict.
Peter Baker and the like are in in for the clicks, and we all suffer for that.

And thanks for not mentioning Christiane Amapour and her journalistic efforts you undoubtedly consider either paltry or in lack of good faith.

If Brian Williams were still at MSNBC, the would be in charge of anchoring the network's coverage of the conflict. His role was to be the breaking news anchor and the veteran journalist. Since Brian left (retired?), MSNBC doesn't really have anyone in that role, and it hurts the network. Anchors like Ayman and Yasmin and Lindsey Reiser are good, but they don't have the gravitas of someone like Brian Williams.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | October 15, 2023 1:37 AM |

If Rachel Maddow is still supposed to be the main voice of MSNBC and the network's top anchor, she should be pulling extra shifts and coming in to anchor on weekends during a news event like this one, instead of making the "junior varsity" team of people like Ayman, Yasmin and Jose Diaz Balart do double or triple duty.

MSNBC has an abundance of pundits, commentators, and contributors, and a dearth of news anchors. When breaking news happens that isn't directly related to Trump, Biden, or Congress, their go-to solution is to have Ali Velshi work 18-hour days. Ali is indispensable, but his salary is probably a tiny fraction of what the prime-time commentators make.
by Anonymous | reply 357 | October 15, 2023 6:45 PM |

I'm a full-fledged Democrat but I'm so tired of the Dem Congressmen/women coming on the shows and refusing to answer simple questions like: Would you support Patrick McHenry if he's made Speaker? Simple Yes or No answer and they seem to be afraid of going there. Congresswomen Clark from Mass just did this with Jen Psaki. Instead of answering, she went on for what felt like 15 minutes about all the good things Dems are doing. I was mad at Jen for not forcing a direct answer out of her.
by Anonymous | reply 482 | October 24, 2023 12:20 AM |
r482, your question is simplistic. Politicians and supreme court nominees do not answer hypotheticals for the simple reason that simple answers can show up as latent gotchas. Why would you want to be locked into a vote. Dumb question. You will find out when they vote. But because Jen has an hour to fill, she asks KNOWING that she is going to get a cloaked, I don't know at this time, which would lead to another question.
by Anonymous | reply 483 | October 24, 2023 12:27 AM |
I resent your condescension, r483 and I would have appreciated the Congresswoman simply saying she didn't know enough about McHenry's policies if she didn't want to answer the question. Which would have been a perfectly reasonable and intelligent response. Instead we got a lot of preening blather that didn't even approach the question. Why guest on the show if she doesn't want to answer simple questions, even with a prepared response? Stop wasting time and space.
And, once again, I resented Jen Psaki not saying" "Hey, you didn't answer my question!" She was far more direct and effective in her WH press conferences,
I don't see anything "simplistic" in my expectations.

She answered the question by pointing out how functional the Democrats are.

by Anonymous | reply 489 | October 24, 2023 1:17 AM |
I would have preferred Clark didn't appear on the show if she wasn't willing and prepared to answer simple and direct questions. Why waste viewers' time?
And, if you believe that Jen Psaki knew she wasn't going to get an answer to her question, which r483 seems to imply, I would prefer Psaki not ask those kinds of questions. Pretty simple, I think.

It almost becomes a mask of who they are.
I have a theory that it's a modern day version of foot binding. Everyone can tell it's not natural and when they meet with their other friends they compliment each other on how good it looks, it's more of a sign of wealth. The wealth ladies in the room all have "the mask".

Eh, Ari’s good but I feel he gives people too much leeway a lot of the time, and he plays devil’s advocate more than I would like.

r559, he wants to be the ONE MSNBC presenter that has miserable Republican shit stains actually return to a liberal network.
I would like to see him interview Southern Baptist Theocrat, Mike Johnson.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | October 26, 2023 5:29 AM |
Ari is very smooth at coming across as simple and friendly nonthreatening interviewer and then somehow always manages to pull out some important fact or statement that ends up being very critical to subject at hand. I imagine this is how he schmoozes a woman into bed with him. They wake up and say wait, what, how did we go from a simple coffee date to waking up in his bed?
He was class president in high school, so he knows how to charm people enough to get what he wants. Having a beautiful smile doesn't hurt either.

You have no idea, R556.
P.S. Your incoherence earned you an Oh, Dear.

I turned off MSNBC because they were having Jonathan Capehart take up the live coverage of the shooting from 1am.
He is not a breaking news host. He is barely capable when heavily scripted.

Now it’s Alex Witt…with Sam Brock!
by Anonymous | reply 564 | October 26, 2023 6:21 AM |
Damn, they pulled Capehart off the air fast.
Thankfully.
Did he even last an hour?
by Anonymous | reply 565 | October 26, 2023 6:25 AM |
They woke up that blowsy old whore Alex Witt for this?
Somehow I pictured her in a state of suspended animation, rising only to anchor on the weekends before taking a five-day sedative.

R562, I copied and pasted the name as requested by r552.

Grrrl, you in trubble.

I’ve lately been watching the NBC News Now stream rather than MSNBC. Particularly for breaking news events.
Too many old, retired “expert” talking heads speculating on Zoom for segments at a time over on MSNBC. — Particularly Andrea’s ancient buddies during her hour.
News Now checks in with actual reporters in the field far more frequently.

Alex Wagner is really not very good.
She was struggling last night and is just reading the teleprompter tonight.

Annie Karni is a disgusting mess!
by Anonymous | reply 572 | October 27, 2023 1:48 AM |
I think they told her that the Black Gay guy wasn't coming in AT THE LAST MOMENT.
Everyone was simply letting local reporters and police ramble on, as there is no playbook for this.

[quote] He is not a breaking news host.
Now, tonight, Jonathan Capehart has to handle the breaking news about the U.S. airstrikes in Syria. Since Brian Williams left, MSNBC doesn't have any evening news anchors, just commentators and pundits. I'll bet that when WWIII breaks out, it will happen during Joy Reid's shift.

R571 I don't know, Akex seemed her normal ultra-competent self. Her guest interviews were crisp and clearly not scripted.
I love Annie Karni. To me, she always looks like she just had sex.

New Speaker of the House thinks mass shootings are the result of Woodstock, and teaching kids that they evolved from "primordial slime".

Can you imagine if it were to happen during Andrea Mitchell's shift?
She'd be sputtering so much. the world would come to an end by the time she got the words out.
