A fun video breaking down the music by Alexandre Desplat

I adored that movie. But I know I'm the minority.

by Anonymousreply 3August 18, 2023 4:59 PM

R3 Really? I love this movie. It is so much fun!

by Anonymousreply 4August 18, 2023 5:01 PM

Farce and ridiculousness on steroids. The cast is to die for. I love it.

by Anonymousreply 5August 18, 2023 5:56 PM

R5 who was your favorite cast member?

by Anonymousreply 6August 18, 2023 7:43 PM

In my top three Wes Anderson films. Ralph Fiennes was perfect.

This line had me literally laughing out loud. Not a nice word, but a very funny scene.

Love the movie (if for no other reason that spotting Ralph Fiennes' numerous displays of VPL). The cast is terrific, especially the actor who plays Zero.

Love it. Hilarious.

Anderson’s least irritating film.

by Anonymousreply 10August 18, 2023 8:08 PM

It's an incredibly smart, inventive and unpredictable film. Love it to death.

And that score!

by Anonymousreply 11August 18, 2023 8:48 PM

Visuals are stunning. Every frame is a great photo. Story is forgettable. I enjoyed it a lot.

The three crazy sisters talking over each other unintelligibly, is a scream. Tilda Swinton‘s character is a riot. She’s so fragile! LOL They were all good. Anderson was blessed with this A-list cast.

R13 Would you call it a hoot and a half?

by Anonymousreply 14August 18, 2023 9:48 PM

Love it

In 2007 F. Murray Abraham, who portrayed the older Zero in The Grand Budapest Hotel, played Barabas and Shylock in a double bill of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and Marlowe's The Jew of Malta. Eric Porter did the same in 1965 playing both Barabas and Shylock in a double bill of the two plays.

A wonderful homage and tribute to the fantastic but mostly forgotten Stefan Zweig. Love this film.

A wonderful ode to Old Austria.

by Anonymousreply 18August 20, 2023 10:21 AM

R18, Owen Wilson is racist?

by Anonymousreply 19August 20, 2023 12:09 PM

I may have to give this another try. I was so excited to watch it, but was left feeling a bit ripped off.

Based on the above comments, perhaps I have to give this film another try. Maybe get high this time.

This is a great movie! I watched it with a good friend. Weird story but that's what makes it so great. It's just...weird.

by Anonymousreply 21August 20, 2023 1:05 PM

To think this film is 11 years old today

by Anonymousreply 22January 6, 2025 12:41 AM

This is the last movie I saw in theaters that truly wowed me.

I want Wes Anderson colour palates all over my life.

I worked with alexandre desplat on the fill “Casanova”. He was a total prick

There are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughterhouse that was once known as humanity.

I suspect a good deal of the people involved in Wes Anderson's films are unpleasant people. BIll Murray can be a complete cunt, for example. Owen Wilson. Etc.

by Anonymousreply 29January 6, 2025 12:57 AM

None of them are musicians, so who cares. The music score comes at the end of the production

by Anonymousreply 30January 6, 2025 1:00 AM

The little dancing Cossack going wild in the end credits is so fucking funny!

by Anonymousreply 31January 6, 2025 2:09 AM

I loved the art direction/production design/whatever it’s called. The Cold War version of the hotel lobby was perfection. I feel like I’ve been there.

by Anonymousreply 32January 6, 2025 6:49 AM

R18 I read the word "wantonly" is two words, want only. Makes ya think...

by Anonymousreply 33January 6, 2025 7:16 AM

Either Tony Revolori as Zero Moustafa, the newly hired bellhop mentored by Gustave, or F. Murray Abraham as the elderly Zero, needed to be recast.

by Anonymousreply 34January 6, 2025 7:22 AM

I gas no idea what this was about when it showed up on “watch next” recommendations.

I gave it a watch and thought it was entertaining.

The cast is great.

I may have to watch it again.

by Anonymousreply 35January 6, 2025 7:28 AM

Anderson is very alla mode today. Or was it yesterday?

Very irritating. I lasted 20 minutes.
