I’m sorry, but are we supposed to know which is which? Does it make a difference?

I LOVE fucking Royalty-Eurotrash is so pretty sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 9August 12, 2023 6:02 PM

They're only called princes "of Greece and Denmark" because a Danish prince was elected King of Greece in 1863 and they continue to use the title. (Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was also a prince of Greece and Denmark before renouncing those titles.)

At least they have some link to Denmark, which still has a monarchy. As for Greece, this guy was not born there, has no Greek ancestry and the Greek people voted to abolish the monarchy in the 1970s.

by Anonymousreply 10August 12, 2023 6:03 PM

Is he claiming any of those things to the contrary, r10? You post as if he's out to get you.

by Anonymousreply 11August 12, 2023 6:06 PM

Someone who calls himself a prince of Greece would not appear, to me, to be someone who respects the Greek people's wish not to have a monarchy.

by Anonymousreply 12August 12, 2023 7:06 PM

Achi turns 23 today. Happy Birthday you hot lil' thing.

They’re living the true dream, says Hilary Rose. Maybe others could learn from them.

What with the hate and nastiness? You don't know them, but if you don't like them, move along. He's a young guy celebrating a birthday. He didn't do anything but be born into a family of decent people.

by Anonymousreply 36August 12, 2023 10:09 PM

I don't get it either, R36.

I was looking through the pictures on his Instagram page, and there are nasty comments littered throughout the whole page.

He posts condolences about the death of Prince Philip, and someone responds "Were you forced to post that?"

Then he posts about the death of Queen Elizabeth, and someone responds, "Really trying to legitimize that you’re a real royal aren’t you 😂😂"

I don't understand why people are being so obnoxiously mean to this kid.

by Anonymousreply 37August 12, 2023 10:17 PM

You don't get why people might not like these fuckers pretending they are royals of a country that does not recognize them?

by Anonymousreply 39August 12, 2023 10:50 PM

The haters should go onto YouTube and watch interviews with Achileas-Andreas' grandfather and grandmother, King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie, and his father, Crown Prince Pavlos. They come across as very nice, refined, polite and dignified people about their love and respect for Greece and its people. Achileas-Andreas' uncle, Prince Nikolaos (Pavlos' brother), and his wife live in Greece and are involved in many charities to help the people of Greece. Nikolaos' wife, Princess Tatiana is always involved in The Hellenic Institute which raises money in various cities around the world for the people of Greece. The entire family vacations together in Greece each summer. Yes, they are privileged. They give back as much as they are involved in their charity work even being out of power. The kids are kids. They're not criminals. Yes, they are connected to other European royals. They are not on the throne, but they are not hated by the people the way some on here would have you believe. In fact, in many cases, they are well-liked as was evident at the former king's funeral earlier this years. They have never tried to reclaim the throne. And they are allowed to use their titles. There are former royal families all over Germany, France and Italy that no longer reign but are recognized with their titles.

by Anonymousreply 40August 12, 2023 10:58 PM
What with the hate and nastiness?

It's DL dear, if you can't handle it then there's always Tumblr where you can whine about 'haters' like a tween girl.
a family of decent people

Decent people don't go around using titles like prince and princess

by Anonymousreply 41August 12, 2023 11:12 PM

Is he rich?

by Anonymousreply 42August 12, 2023 11:15 PM

R40 is the same BULL CRAP repeated from the other thread last year.

by Anonymousreply 43August 12, 2023 11:53 PM
There are former royal families all over Germany, France and Italy that no longer reign but are recognized with their titles.

To my knowledge, they are the only ones who have continued to do so after a plebiscite abolishing the monarchy. Keeping titles after a revolution or some other event where a monarch is deposed - that's one thing, but it is quite another to be so disrespectful of the people's democratically-expressed will.

by Anonymousreply 44August 12, 2023 11:58 PM

He is indeed hot as a sumbitch, and kinda short which is perfect. They’re pretty much professional vacationers, but most people expect that. The Danish and Greek royals have some absolutely stunning twinks, either way. I wonder if the British royal family would ever dip into the pool again.

Why? What do we care about these people, never mind their grandparents and parents?

by Anonymousreply 57August 17, 2023 5:32 AM

I know he should be beheaded.

There is no place for kings, queens, prince and princesses in the Modern Age.

by Anonymousreply 58August 17, 2023 5:51 AM

I don’t care if royals exist if they earn their own living (in a real job). Royalty exists because of oppression and they shouldn’t get a cent from their governments that could go to the common people who earn it with their labor.

by Anonymousreply 59August 17, 2023 6:22 AM

"Shouldn't it be"? Why "should" it? People can be named whatever their parents want, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 65August 17, 2023 4:50 PM

^ I didn't say they couldn't name him whatever they want, you tiresome cunt. I just think they should have transliterated it in a way that hews more closely to the original and will also be more familiar to people (via Achilles).

by Anonymousreply 66August 17, 2023 5:01 PM
I just think they [bold]should[/bold] have transliterated it in a way that hews more closely to the original and will also be more familiar to people (via Achilles).

Again, why "should" they?

As for "tiresome cunt": pot, thy name is absolutely kettle.

by Anonymousreply 67August 17, 2023 5:08 PM

Because Achilleas is closer to Achilles, the traditional and widely-known transliteration of the original Ancient Greek version of this name. You do know that other people are entitled to their views about prominent people's actions? It's more or less the point of this website.

by Anonymousreply 68August 17, 2023 5:21 PM

*Achilles isn't so much a transliteration as it is the common English-language version, to clarify.

by Anonymousreply 69August 17, 2023 5:22 PM

I’ve heard he’s a real heel.

by Anonymousreply 70August 18, 2023 12:35 AM

"Achilles" is the Latin version of ancient Greek "Akhilleus," which in modern Greek becomes "Ahileas" (or "Ach-," depending on how you transliterate). Although English most often takes ancient Greek names through their Latin versions (cf. Aeschylus instead of Aiskhulos, Plato instead of Platon), because of the influence of the Roman Empire, there are plenty of reasons why modern Greeks wouldn't want to do so. However, to answer R63's question, yes, it's odd that they don't transliterate with double L. Maybe that's the Danish custom?

by Anonymousreply 71August 18, 2023 12:42 AM

I’ve seen Prince Pavlos’ interviews…he comes across as a bit dim. Why didn’t he become king when his father died? I’m guessing because the monarchy was abolished?

by Anonymousreply 72August 18, 2023 1:06 AM

Do either of them favour jockstraps?

by Anonymousreply 73August 18, 2023 1:19 AM

R72. Actually, Prince Pavlos comes across intelligent and quite well-spoken.

by Anonymousreply 74August 18, 2023 2:07 AM

R74 - you mean "Pretend King Pavlos"?

by Anonymousreply 75August 18, 2023 2:14 AM

R74 = Crown Princess Marie-Chantal

by Anonymousreply 76August 18, 2023 2:15 AM

Keep in mind, Queen Elizabeth and the monarchs before her are directly from George I, who was German.

by Anonymousreply 77August 18, 2023 2:27 AM

But George I was "directly from" James I, who was English—or his great-great-grandparents were, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 78August 18, 2023 2:44 AM

Here's the royal tree from its beginning. Red crowns are for English monarchs, Blue crowns are for Scottish monarchs. Years are their birth-death years, not the years of their reigns.

You'll need to blow up the chart to see it.
