Chandelier by Mark MacKiIIop is the best cover I’ve ever heard, maybe the best song I’ve ever heard. The voice of an angel.
Seriously, OP?

I assume that OP is deaf

Hi Mark

From the note on the venue of this recording, it would appear that one needed to have been drinking quite heavily at The Green Room 42 that night to enjoy this cover.

I wouldn’t be a good DLer if I didn’t point out that a “cover” (like that godawful rendition of Chandelier that started us off) is different from a “standard” (like those snoozy Carly Simon recordings just above).

r15, I forgot Carly recorded "You're the Love of My Life," her own composition, twice. I was familiar with the original version, in which she claimed to love (among other things) Woody Allen. I thought it was kind of lame changing it to Mia Farrow, and yet rather clever. How good of each of them to have names with four syllables. Glad neither of them was married to Dmitri Shostakovich.

Good voice, great look and he definitely has a relaxed and winning charisma. He could make it, actually. But let’s maybe cut down on that vodka, doll.

I never realized how lyrically gorgeous the Prince-penned 'Nothing Compares 2 U' is until I heard Chris Cornell's live/acoustic interpretation.

This is just my opinion, not speaking for anyone else but: Chris Cornell didn't "cover" songs. He stole them in broad daylight and made them his own.

The best covers are those that became hits long after the original versions failed.

The best covers for me are the ones that take a song and its totally reinvented.
Like Devo's cover of "Satisfaction" (The Rolling Stones):

or ...
Siouxsie & The Banshees cover of "This Wheel's On Fire" (Bob Dylan):

Roxy Music's cover of "Hurricane" (Crazy Horse and Neil Young).

This singer named Avie Sheck just put up a cover version of Radiohead's "Creep" that he did with his mom, where she's accompanying him with her classical-trained Indian singing.
It's really something else.
