I wish George and Louis parted their hair on the left side like most males. George has a cowlick on the right side, so it's difficult to part his hair on the left. But Louis appears not to have a cowlick on the right and could easily part his hair on the left. Like this...

His parents told him when he was seven years old so he's had some time to get used to the idea. The death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of King Charles III must have given little George a lot to think about.

I suspect that George actually spends less time in front of a camera than the average middle-class child.

R47 The irony of Harry’s book Spare is that he isn’t even the spare and hasn’t been since George was born. Charlotte and Louis are the spares.
George is a lucky young man. Considering at his age, William was deep into a childhood trapped between warring parents and aggressive paparazzi. William and Kate seem to have done a good job giving him a relatively normal life.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 22, 2023 6:52 PM |
Yes and amazing he hasn't been sent to boarding school yet. This is a REAL break with tradition.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 22, 2023 7:08 PM |
The paparazzi were rarely "aggressive" with William at age ten, R72. I remember it quite well. His parents were at war, however, and I'm sure that was very difficult for him since poor Diana used William as an emotional crutch which she never should have done. It wasn't his job to take care of her problems.
Still, young George is very lucky in his parents. They're good people, they're both grown-ups and they take parenting seriously.
The real break with the traditions of the monarchy is the recent announcement that George may not go into the armed forces if he doesn't want to do so. Now, I think that he actually will serve if he wants to be King one day. If not, he's free to blow it off in which case we will see Charlotte joining up and eventually becoming Queen Regnant.
I'd fully support that - Britain does better with Queens than Kings anyway, in my opinion.

by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 22, 2023 7:46 PM |
Approximately 13 is the American age to start boarding school attendance. Britain starts them off much younger, more like eight to ten years old.
George doesn't have to board at all. Eton is close enough to home that it's an easy school run to make.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 22, 2023 11:34 PM |
I don't think there's any danger of George being sent to boarding school before 13-14, "high school" age. And maybe not then, Will and Kate take parenting seriously enough that they may keep some or all of the kids at home for their secondary schooling.
Of course Charles sent his kids to boarding school, he was the only living parent and didn't have a clue. But Will and Kate seem to be giving parenting their best shot, they may decide day schools are good enough.

[quote] I see, [R81], then I doubt he'll attend Eton at all. We shall see.
He has already visited the school recently with his parents, so I’d expect an announcement soon. It seems likely that William and Kate’s recent move to Windsor was motivated by a desire to be close to Eton. Although William enjoyed his years as a boarder, he also benefited from being close enough to Windsor Castle to be able to spend a lot of time with the late Queen, especially during the time that his parents were at war with one another. It was widely reported that William would have tea with his granny nearly every weekend.
This may seem like the perfect arrangement to William and Kate: they can abide by tradition by sending George to a first-rate school, but still be able to see him often, and they will always be within 20 minutes of the school.

I hope this generation of little royals will get some input on whether or not they want to go to a boarding school. Some kids are fine with it, they think it'll be a chance to spend lots of minimally supervised time with other kids, or they think it's a status thing to do, other kids dread the possibility.
It would be nice if George was given the option of a day school, but as the heir he's probably being trained to do what's expected and not what he wants.

Yes, I know that the Wales' recently visited Eton, R-whatever-upthread. That doesn't mean that George will attend the school. They may be introducing it as one of his schooling options.
Since they've publicly announced that George is under no obligation to join the military, I doubt he's under an obligation to go to boarding school either. We shall see.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | July 24, 2023 9:22 PM |
They've announced that George won't be forced to join the military after college, but don't be surprised if he (and Charlotte and Louis for that matter) ends up doing a stint in one of the military branches anyway. His father and grandfather flew helicopters and greatly enjoyed it, watch for him to perhaps do a stint in the RAF voluntarily.
I mean, perhaps he'll be a studious type and want to obtain a Masters or PhD degree, but the Windsors aren't that brainy or bookish. Military training will help fill in the gap between college/uni graduation and the time as an adult when he'll become a full time working Royal.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | July 24, 2023 9:42 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 24, 2023 9:46 PM |
King Charles isn't stupid, neither is William. Harry is deeply stupid and so is Andrew. The Windsor stupid gene seems to skip the eldest son and go for the second son with a vengeance.
I would not be at all surprised to find that George decides to do military service and it wouldn't surprise me if all of the Wales children chose to do a stint in the service. They'll see everyone else in the family doing it, it seems likely that they will too. I do like the fact that William and Catherine are being careful to keep George's options open, to give him choices not "you must do thus and so."
They're thoughtful, caring parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

There are many genes that contribute to make pattern baldness, some are autosomal and some are located on the X chromosome. The X linked ones would come from a boys mother as males get an X chromosome only from their mothers. The mother has the possibility of passing either of the 2 X chromosomes she has to each child (male or female) that she has. If Prince George gets the X chromosome Kate got from her father, he'll be lucky. The other X chromosome originated from Kate's mother and could be either from Kate's material grandmother or maternal grandfather. Make pattern baldness is less extreme in women because they have lower levels of dihydrotestosterone and because they have 2 X chromosomes (less likely that both would have baldness gene).
by Anonymous | reply 117 | July 25, 2023 10:15 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 118 | July 25, 2023 10:18 AM |
Most male-pattern baldness (most, not all) is passed down via the maternal line. Kate's father certainly has a great head of hair, very thick well into his 70s. It would be great if George and Louis inherited that kind of hairline.
I don't know what Carole Middelton's father looked like, but if had decent hair then the Wales kids are probably going to luck out.

Which royal Dukedom will George get when he marries? If Will has already acceded, it’s of course Cambridge. But if Will hasn’t acceded and Edward and Andy are still both alive, I’d expect Ross first, then Clarence, then maybe Kendal. Cleveland is still kinda tainted haha. Of course, it’s unlikely he gets York either way, because it’s reliably reserved for the second son. Also, reusing Edinburgh so soon might be seen as rude to Edward’s family.
Louis will surely get York when it comes available, possibly as a life peerage to preserve it, so he may get a substantive Earldom at first, just like Edward.
Then there’s always the question of whether Charlotte, as the first ever Princess to be ahead of her brother, will get a substantive title with a non-standard remainder for her descendants, even if she has the non-inheritable Princess Royal title by that point. Of course, she might marry an heir to a title, which would make it simpler.

Serial killers and real estate are far more interesting than this dumb kid and his boring family. If you don't get the humor behind the pasta draining argument then you aren't a real datalounger so maybe you should fuck off?

[quote]Which royal Dukedom will George get when he marries? If Will has already acceded, it’s of course Cambridge.
If "Will" has already acceded, then George would already be Duke of Cornwall (and Rothesay) and Prince of Wales, too, if William acts with the same speed as Charles did when Elizabeth died. As such, George probably wouldn't be getting any new titles for his wedding.

I just heard from one of those "royal reporters" that James, Viscount Severn is no longer Severn, or at least that's one of his lower titles. He's the Earl of Wessex now. It hadn't even occurred to me but of course he would be.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
