Why was the crowd so dead that day?

I know I've posted about Vlado Kalember before but I need to know why the crowd was so dead that day in 1988. And sour/serious-looking.

He is one of Croatia's most famous singers (back then it was still Yugoslavia and he was at the height of his fame) and this is the reaction he got when performing? Only a few people seemed to be enjoying it, mostly kids, everyone else has funeral face.

Disgust at the hideous mole.

by Anonymousreply 2July 15, 2023 7:41 PM

Who is even more unknown than Vlado Kalember? The audience members on that day 35 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 3July 15, 2023 7:44 PM

[quote] And we have a winner of the Most Obscure Subject for a Thread Award.

OP is obsessed. He's started four other threads on this guy in the last six months.

by Anonymousreply 4July 15, 2023 7:45 PM

Is OP the guy who pretends to be Nate Czeydhdhdhebdbdhnovich?

by Anonymousreply 5July 15, 2023 7:46 PM

r3 Unknown? He's one of the most famous men in Croatia and has even been to the Eurovision.

Well, at least a runner up.

They were delighting in the joys of authoritarianism.

by Anonymousreply 8July 15, 2023 8:32 PM

In old country, we no show happy. 😐

by Anonymousreply 9July 15, 2023 8:50 PM

R9 I thought Italy was "Old Country"?

by Anonymousreply 10July 15, 2023 10:19 PM

Traumatized by the Commies and their secret police they were awaiting a signal it was OK to applaud the performance. There were recording devices at the venue. Never can be too careful.

by Anonymousreply 11July 15, 2023 10:26 PM

The audience looked like mostly olds.

by Anonymousreply 12July 15, 2023 10:29 PM

The poor singer looks like he feels so incredibly uncomfortable. His body language is saying, “I just want to finish this damn song and get off this fucking stage.” You know he can feel their lack of enthusiasm.

OP, maybe this could be the last thread on him. You do seem a little obsessed. We are starting to behave in the same manner the crowd was responding to him.

by Anonymousreply 13July 15, 2023 10:31 PM

r13 It will be the last thread on him. I don't think I have anything more to say about him.

by Anonymousreply 14July 15, 2023 10:59 PM

Vlado Kalember sounds like something you'd find in the Produce department of the Piggly Wiggly!

by Anonymousreply 15July 15, 2023 11:03 PM

It looks like it’s from 1983 but it’s really 2007.

by Anonymousreply 16July 15, 2023 11:28 PM

r16 It was filmed in 1988. Here he is now at 70.

Wasn't his country in a war at the time or about to go to war?

by Anonymousreply 18July 16, 2023 12:36 AM

r18 Not at the time. The Yugoslavic war didn't start until 1991.

by Anonymousreply 19July 16, 2023 10:06 AM

r11 Really?

by Anonymousreply 20July 16, 2023 12:16 PM

They acid wash burned their eyes

by Anonymousreply 21July 16, 2023 12:28 PM

They are concerned for the alcoholic in denial. Lyrics:

Wine on the lips

Let the wise men follow us

don't ask if it's a sin

tonight we will gladly

sell our souls for laugh

Your words are cold

but the look in your eyes is warm, long

don't ever be afraid of me

I'll be your good friend

Wine on the lips

let the song be heard all the way to the Adriatic sea

wine on the lips

let all people know you made me drunk

by Anonymousreply 22July 16, 2023 12:29 PM

r22 I don't understand those lyrics at all.

by Anonymousreply 23July 16, 2023 12:37 PM

Why hasn't anyone mentioned how cute he is? forget the mole.

by Anonymousreply 24July 16, 2023 12:44 PM

As a twink, he was identical to Johnny Depp

Who?

by Anonymousreply 26July 21, 2023 1:23 PM

The look and feel of that “live” performance is that of an official local small-town festival (I’ve been going to Croatia for decades, and this sort of thing is fairly common in spring and especially summer). Considering the year, if it is an official local festival, then that audience is full of Party officials and local Party sympathizers, and they probably know they’re on pretty thin ice. The breakup of the Yugoslavian League of Communists and civil war was only two years away, and that bag-of-laughs fun guy Slobodan Milošević had been the undisputed leader of Yugoslavia for a whole year.

The two (obviously) Party bros having a chat in the front row are probably trying to figure out how to get to Trieste before the hammer falls.

Der Komisar's in town oh oh oh!

Next up from OP: Didi Kempot's fashion choices!

by Anonymousreply 29July 21, 2023 2:31 PM

what R27 said...secret police and informants (maybe your neighbor or best friend) were everywhere

by Anonymousreply 30July 21, 2023 3:43 PM

r30 Informants for what? Are the audience not allowed to dislike the song? Is the singer part of a mafia or something? I don't understand why politicians have to get involved with musical performances.

by Anonymousreply 31July 21, 2023 3:52 PM

Is this guy gay? If not that is the relevance here? No name person from 35 years ago to post a thread about?

by Anonymousreply 32July 21, 2023 4:58 PM

r32 because I'm gay and I like him.

by Anonymousreply 33July 21, 2023 5:07 PM

r30, 'ya had to be there to understand

by Anonymousreply 34July 21, 2023 7:22 PM

The sky was so blue that day.

You are the STRANGEST Stan on DL in several years.

by Anonymousreply 37July 24, 2023 4:21 AM

r37 Why? Isn't there anyone you're a fan of?

by Anonymousreply 38July 24, 2023 3:43 PM

Because the point of social media and a discussion forum is to communicate with outer humans. And not to repeatedly regurgitate your passion for something or someone of zero interest to everyone.

You tried one time, and that's ok. And nobody was interested.

Subsequent threads in which NOBODY is going to engage with you positively about your passionate interest = any number of mental illnesses.

by Anonymousreply 39July 24, 2023 4:56 PM

Vlado and Edward Snowden need to get together to compare their hideous moles.

by Anonymousreply 40July 24, 2023 5:07 PM

Miss Duncan, may I have permission to rearrange Kris’ pussy lips? They make me feel so uncomfortable .

No, Donna. Sit down.

by Anonymousreply 41July 24, 2023 5:08 PM

[QUOTE] Why? Isn't there anyone you're a fan of?

Of course Jan. But usually someone has to have some modicum of talent to have fans. That's what's so puzzling about your obsession.

by Anonymousreply 42July 24, 2023 5:13 PM

r42 You don't think Vlado Kalember has talent?

by Anonymousreply 43July 24, 2023 5:21 PM

He had a lush mullet back in the day… but a bland voice and zero stage presence.

Still, I would have done him. Then.

by Anonymousreply 44July 24, 2023 5:29 PM

r44 He's more attractive middle aged.

I do enjoy his singing. My favorite is his song from the 1970's. I am unable to recall the name. It sounds like " daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh..."

by Anonymousreply 46July 24, 2023 6:17 PM

Perhaps had he changed his first name he might have had more crossover success in the U.S. like his sister Patricia did on thirtysomething and then Sisters.

by Anonymousreply 47July 24, 2023 6:38 PM

Did he perform at Live Aid?

by Anonymousreply 48July 24, 2023 6:55 PM

It could be cultural. Not every country's audiences jump to their feet and scream after the singers sing. In some cases, polite applause is the tradition, and the audience actually listens to the performer, rather than singing along at the top of their lungs or screaming throughout. Here is an example: this singer is spectacular, one of the best voices in the world. Notice the audience reaction at the end. But, that's the way they are; it's not that they didn't like what they heard.

OP is officially a troll. We are being tolled.

by Anonymousreply 52July 25, 2023 2:14 AM

r52 No, I'm not. I'm genuinely interested in knowing why I'd troll a topic like this. I just want to know if people like Vlado Kalember. Even if you don't know who he is, you know now because of the video I posted. Why is it so hard for people to give an opinion on Vlado Kalember?

by Anonymousreply 53July 25, 2023 2:21 AM

Trolling or on the Spectrum. No difference for the rest of us.

Get this through your noggin. We like Sally Field. NOT YOU. Nor what's his name.

The song at R36 is terrible. I don't know why Europeans can't write good pop songs. But he seems like a nice guy. I was more interested in the silver fox who hosts the show at the start of the video.

by Anonymousreply 55July 25, 2023 5:24 AM

R55 Yeah, cause there are no good pop songs that came out of the UK. Or good European pop bands like that American band Abba
