OP, you're being hysterical. Tens of thousands of people climb the world's tallest peaks each year, and Rainier really *ain't* that high. Julian idiotically tried climbing ALONE and in January, after the entire West Coast got multiple massive snow dumps. (Why do you think they only just found him last week? It took THAT long for all the fucking snow to melt!)
A healthy college-age kid in good shape & hiking in a group should have no problems.
