"Close" (2022) Have we discussed this movie here?

Nominated for countless awards, including Best International Film at the Academy Awards.

I finally watched it on Showtime, and I wanted to much to like it.

The movie started off strong, but I hated the direction it took.

It was so disappointing.

Couldn't agree more OP. I read so many great reviews about it, but the ending wasn't very good.

I thought it was very powerful, and very heartbreaking. It stuck with me for weeks after viewing it. So many great themes. Peer pressure, rejection, guilt, and many more. You could say that the film took a very dark turn and for some people that probably seemed contrived or emotionally manipulative, but it was compelling.

More than anything else, it was heartbreaking R2.

Remi was a poor, fragile soul. He never understood what he did "wrong."

His heart was completely open.

I just couldn't get back into the movie after the first half, because it was like there was a big hole where a character should have been.

What really impressed me is how kids in Belgium speak so many different languages.

Besides having English interspersed into their regular conversation, they also become fluent in French and Dutch.

At times, they even mix languages!

It's pretty cool.

That's a funny story the director Lukas Dhont tells about how he found Eden, to play the part of Leo.

At the 2:30 mark.

Lukas Dhont talks about his inspiration behind the movie.

It's hard to believe he's only 31.

Lukas Dhont and his younger brother Michiel Dhont are both gay.

Sacre bleu!

Interesting point at R7, because there's a scene in the movie "Close" where Leo and his older brother are in bed together, cuddled up in an embrace.

I thought it was a bit odd between two brothers, but maybe Lukas was drawing on his own experience.

I think my favorite part of Leo and Remi's relationship was how attuned Leo was to Remi.

Remi had insomnia and would often wake up in the middle of the night, and Leo would blow air on him to help him sleep.

That little detail of their relationship was a nice touch by the Director.

I loved this movie. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

I'm watching the movie right now, and I picked up on something I didn't notice the first time.

Remi's mom didn't want him to ever lock the door while he was in the bathroom, and I didn't understand why.

Now I'm thinking that maybe Remi suffered from depression, and was a bit unstable.

His mom was adamant about him not locking the door.

That's probably also why he had a hard time sleeping at night.

Then after the incident happened, Leo went running to Remi's house, and the bathroom door had been broken open with an ax or some other type of similar object.

Just watched this and man, I’m wrecked. Beautiful film.

r12, if you're like most viewers, this film will stick with you for several days or longer - because it is so emotionally intense and raises so many questions about friendship, guilt, responsibility, societal pressure, and on and on.

I couldn't watch it because it seemed too close to home. I had extremely close male friends when I was in middle school.
