Based on donald's pending "Mein MAGA Constitution," I think he will do away with the office of the Vice President: "I alone can do it," so no running mate.
No need for VP presiding over nonexistent Senate, and one of donald's spawn will ascend to the presidential throne should father ever die.
Vote Blue.

First question Trump will ask any potential running mate, will you pardon me if I have to resign?
Second question, as Vice President will you throw out the electoral votes for the crooked Democrats in swing state and replace them with Republican electors.
Third question, will you support my declaration of martial law on day one, I really want to be a dictator.
Fourth question, will you support the repeal of the law preventing a President from serving more than two terms.

R28 you seem obsessed with telling me things I already know, all five of my potential questions of Trump's VP are in some way illegal. It doesn't mean that Trump wouldn't ask a potential VP if he or she would support Trump if he tried to do them. Once a President declares martial law all the norms are out the window. Lincoln declared martial law and then issued this Presidential Proclamation 94 suspending the writ of habeas corpus during the Civil War. The writ of habeas corpus is a tool preventing the government from unlawfully imprisoning individuals outside of the judicial process. Now go find someone else to argue with I am done.

R64
So your point is that despite being a black man the S.C. GOP picked Scott to be their senator? And the voters voted for him as well ?
Scott would have a lot of appeal to a lot of voters. Maybe not all that many DL voters but the rest of the country.
Trump may go belly up and take a shit in the court room in front of tv cameras but he is going to pick a VP mate that can actually help him win.
And going full on maga helps him not even a little.

R66, I’m also R19, where I reaffirmed my belief that Scott would get the nod. But I don’t think Scott - or anyone else - will get Trump over the finish line. Even a pre-1/6 INCUMBENT Trump couldn’t beat Biden, so I don’t think an increasingly addled Trump can beat incumbent Biden. And it’s a much bigger Biden victory if Trump’s a convicted felon.
As to Scott’s electoral chances in South Carolina, I do not believe he would have prevailed as a non-incumbent in an open Republican primary.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 22, 2024 4:54 PM |
If he were as smart as he thinks he is, he'd ask Condi Rice. Short last name that fits well with his on signs. . From a different wing of his party. Doesn't have a big personality that would overshadow him. Woman. Black. Could handle herself in a debate. No baggage from the primaries. Bush baggage, but the independents and Never Trump Republicans he's trying to win back might see that as a good thing or at least a balancing thing.
And no, I'm not the Condoleeza Rice troll.

Not just voting for trump but just deciding not to vote against Scott and staying home. In an election where turn out and enthusiasm may be a significant dem problem.
We have today a lot of people Dems and GOP that say they want a change. Scott in the mix is a change. And people seem to like him a lot.

Trump tried for a Des Moines second (in his victory speech in Iowa) to be "normal", "bringing people together"... and then within minutes he went batshit crazy again. Recently I've been getting less worried that Trump will win the general election... he truly is crazy, and he just can't shut the fuck up and be (relatively) nice. He could totally give red meat to the MAGA crew, and be "Presidential" more in public, and pick Scott or Haley or Stefanik as VP, and win the election (Electoral College, not popular vote).
But he won't stay normal. He just can't. And the more we see of him in less "canned" moments, people will remember how crazy he is.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 22, 2024 9:43 PM |
Excluding friends and relatives of the VP nominee you could probably count on one hand the number of people who have switched who they planned on voting for because of who the candidate picks as VP. People care about the top of the ticket so Trump will pick someone who will lie for him and violate the law for him, not who will get him more votes because of regardless of who he picks it won't get him any more votes. Pence wouldn't violate the law for Trump, he isn't going to make that mistake again..

by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 22, 2024 10:48 PM |
I’m with you, R76, about feeling more comfortable about a Biden victory. When Trump becomes the presumptive nominee, the campaign against him will be more joined and his increasingly demented talk will become more front and center.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 22, 2024 10:49 PM |
Trump HAS to be the GQP nominee to keep their MAGA nutcase base voters. If he dies or if someone else is nominated, they'll just stay home (my QAnon cousin has already said that)--which means they won't be voting for Republicans down ballot as well. Mitch McConnell and the like understand this.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 22, 2024 10:52 PM |
Of course, R81. I keep hearing Dan Abrams on POTUS saying that Haley would “cream” Biden, that she would win in a “landslide.” What this analysis ignores is that Haley would only wrest the nomination from Trump in an ugly, protracted battle. Trump & his base are not going to enthusiastically then get behind nominee Haley.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 22, 2024 10:59 PM |
And if there's anything I know about the MAGA psyche R82, it's that they're mean and vengeful, just like Trump. If Nikki Haley wins the nomination, they will want to punish the Republican party because they didn't get their way. Which ultimately will be good for Biden and the Democrats.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | January 22, 2024 11:04 PM |
JHC Haley has absolutely no chance as long as trump is in the race. None
In NH one of the most liberal or moderate gop states Trump is expanding his lead. Now at double digits. And if she can’t win in NH , not come close, but win then she can’t win anywhere.
And she sure is not going to win her home state of S.C. he is going to crush her.
Her only chance is a MI or stroke.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | January 22, 2024 11:07 PM |
R82 Exactly. We should probably enjoy this (relative) political normalcy. This year is going to be nutso. If Haley were to win the Repub nomination (she has zero chance of doing that, but for purposes of discussion)... Trump and his cult would not accept it... see Jan 6 style "protesters" storming the convention hall in Milwaukee and if that doesn't work Trump running as a third party and if he loses claiming the election was rigged and.... etc.
Beginning in August start hearing from Trump and the Republican gang noise about "irregularities".... a claiming that the election wasn't valid if he loses. Actually, no one will believe in national election results. We might not actually lose the Republic this year, but election doubts are already the sugar in the gastank. Hard to think if there will be any election in 2028.

The argument that Alabama ( and SC for Scott) is not in play for the Dems is a good argument as to why it would be more likely to be a female from a swing state that trump would pick.
You can argue how much a VP helps in an election but they usually help in their own home state. And this election could turn on one or two states

Tim Scott would be a bad situation for Trump. He balked at one or more of Trump’s judicial picks and joined with Democrats to attack the Florida education guideline that pointed out that some slaves were able to use their occupational skills to earn cash by hiring themselves out. Scott would speak out where Pence wouldn’t, so Trump and Scott would be publicly fighting pretty quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | January 25, 2024 8:53 PM |
R129 I have observed nothing about him that indicates Scott would "speak out" in contradicting anything Trump said or did.

And what are trump friends and close confidants suggesting to him , as opposed to the DL, as VP——a black man Scott being suggested as the Trump Go With His Gut Pick or a woman.
Now which black man or white woman is going to help trump with the christian community aka the Pence people, moderate GOP the old business types, POC, or those that just don’t like the dems this year and may waver or vote 3rd party..
Because whoever trump picks they will be picked because trump thinks they will help him win.
And by winning I mean, out of prison, dominating the courts for decades, and going down in history as the most single remarkable politician and unlikely president in the history of presidents.
If they can’t help trump bring in new votes they might have a job in his admin but it will not be as VP
Only 3 things count to trump and the GOP now
Winning Winning Winning.

Apparently Dump is in touch with Mike Johnson on a daily basis trying to control everything. I wouldn't be surprised if it's him as running mate. Later in the game. When is VP usually announced?

POC, woman, moderate woman, gays, moderate men, a swing state or primary state Trump wants to own?
Trump may be crazy but he is not dumb enough to pick a VP that does not bring something trump needs. If only trump was as insanely stupid on this as progressives think he is when it comes to this.
It’s not going to be a right wing wacko.

R132, It is the same for every Presidential candidate: Who brings the most to the VP table for "Winning Winning Winning".
Tim Kaine was a gargantuan blunder, e.g. Kamala Harris met the moment.
Harris will remain, although she hasn't made her mark as Vice-President.
Trump is savvy enough to know that he and the Republicans don't have the Black vote and never will, even if he puts Oprah on the ticket. Any woman who would vote Republican is a moron who is already locked in; a woman on the ticket isn't bringing any more.
But a Latino from California or Texas---not that I can name any---could help, especially if they view the border asylum-seekers as ruining it for the rest of them.

Being seen as nice wholesome and very conservative will help a lot
And above all he wants someone who will help him get elected. Someone who will bring votes with him not MAGA votes but POC and moderate and traditional gop etc those who would not usually vote for trump.

On the other hand, R157, Trump would be giving DeSantis the opportunity to fill a Senate seat should DeSantis be picked and elected. After his ‘16 presidential campaign tanked, Rubio changed his mind about not running for re-election that year, so he may not be so enamored of life as a Senator. Resigning his seat & running with Trump, evening in a losing bid, might help his bona fides with the MAGA base for a ‘28 run.

Another thing to add about Little Marco is that he is too attractive to stand next to Trump. Trump's acutely aware of people's looks and the contrast between him and Rubio would be stark in terms of appearance, energy, vitality. Everything. Trump's ego cannot withstand it. Kasich and Pence were his top choices last time around.

It will Tim Scott. Not too long ago he went right up to Trump on stage in front of the microphones and said "I love You!" Even Trump was a bit awkward with that. But he loves lapdogs. Remember when Senator Warren was running for president and was asked if she wanted someone like Mike Pence to be her VP? Her answer was funny but true. "I already have a dog".
Trump wants an obedient, unqualified, lapdog to stare at him all day like Mike Pence did. Tim Scott fits that bill.

Scott dies not need to steal many votes from the Dems and not one female POC vote to make Trump president. Only a small handful of votes made for a biden win last time and biden was more popular then,
Black men. Black men in general won’t give a shit that Scott has a white woman. He won’t lose votes from black men anyway. Black men and white women is not at all unusual today.
People IMO don’t care if they think you are a queer. They care more if you run around talking and acting like a queer. Act straight don’t embarrass others and they won’t give a fuck.
Scott would steal votes. Maybe enough to make a difference.
And four years later he would end that term as President Scott. Trump does not have another four years in him if he does win.
Trump will own the libs who have claimed he was a racist and would never pick Scott. .

Two very old men neither of them all that popular with the country . Neither of them likely to finish a new 4 year term that won’t even start until next year.
This year the voters will be looking at the.VP just a little more because they know that VP is likely to be the P before the term is out.
50,000 votes changed in a country with over 300,000,000 people is nothing. 30,000 votes changed could do it.
The VP is more important this year for both parties good or bad.

The sad part is, most of that unregistered 50% are also the least informed. They make decisions at the last minute based on there feelings.

R227
As opposed to me who will vote dem time after time without thinking at all. Fuck feelings like most of DL I do not vote GOP.
Informed has nothing to do with it for most of us we always vote Dem or GOP

If Trump was smart, he isn't, he would select Mike Pence and of course Mike Pence would jump at the chance and start praising Trump again. Trump would be seen has being magnanimous which he is never.
by Anonymous | reply 229 | May 5, 2024 9:36 PM |
Yeah, but I think Mother has different ideas for Mike.
by Anonymous | reply 230 | May 5, 2024 9:45 PM |
If he wants to win, he should pick a Latina.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | May 5, 2024 10:21 PM |
R323
Do you have a good one to suggest he might pick that would make sense for him?
And it should not be anyone currently a resident of Florida who wants to remain a resident of Florida. Because I know Trump is not going to be the one moving to a different state.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | May 5, 2024 10:29 PM |
If I were Trump, I'd wait until the convention to select. That way, all the toady sycophants will scramble to enact the most outrageous policies to get his attention. He will make them lick his asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 234 | May 5, 2024 11:25 PM |
Who trump picks will be important. Trump now leads in 5 battle ground states. This could turn into a blow out if trends don’t start to change.
It’s getting worse for Joe. At some point this needs to start to change or this will be an all time gop ass kicking and the queers and libs will be owned big time.

Shocker, but I'm not necessarily buying Trump's assertion that he's not seriously considering Nikki Haley.
by Anonymous | reply 237 | May 13, 2024 12:54 PM |
No way he picks Haley, she made him look bad towards the end before she dropped out and he won't ever forget that. He won't take that shit from a brown woman, of all people.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | May 13, 2024 1:04 PM |
I don't think he'll pick Tim Scott or Marco Rubio. He doesn't need to worry about diversity or balancing the ticket. He just wants someone who'll do his bidding no questions asked and will pick fights with the media when they criticize him.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | May 13, 2024 1:55 PM |
I think he'd pick Rubio in a nanosecond if Rubio wasn't also a Florida resident. Tim Scott is another story. I think Tim Scott is too ugly to be picked by Trump. I'm being serious when I say that will factor into Trump's decision. His eventual pick may not be a looker, but it won't be someone ugly or super fat.

Trump's overriding priority is to win this election. If he's persuaded that a Haley pick is the one that is most likely to achieve this objective, all bets are off.

His true base is Evangelicals and White Christian Nationalists. He needs to peel off some women. So my guess is he will choose a woman. I also think, OTOH, De Santis may be a viable choice to him. OK. My top picks are Desantis and The Huckabeast.

I can see Rubio moving out of Florida, R242, but I don't see DeSantis moving.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | May 13, 2024 3:36 PM |
You see Rubio resigning his seat and moving out of Florida to run with Trump?
R243
by Anonymous | reply 244 | May 13, 2024 3:59 PM |
Unlike Mrs. DeSantis, I don't see Mrs. Rubio having any statewide political ambitions. And I don't think Rubio's all that enamored in remaining a senator. If he moves out of Florida in service of the Trump campaign, he - if the ticket loses - could always return & run for governor in '26, a race he has been rumored to be considering.
by Anonymous | reply 245 | May 13, 2024 4:18 PM |
Rubio in private says terrible things about president trump.

I don't think so. Ego in the present comes before self-preservation in the future for a necrotic narcissist like him. And she hurt his.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | May 13, 2024 5:21 PM |
I want The Huckabeast. If he wins we will need some comic relief.
by Anonymous | reply 248 | May 13, 2024 5:55 PM |
I'm surprised he's not considering Stephen Miller. He's completely loyal, loves to fight with the media, is a hard liner on immigration, and his super pro-Israel stance might peel off some people who are normally more Dem leaning. He'd also give Trump the ability to pretend he's doing something for American Jews while he's cozing up to Christian nationalists.
by Anonymous | reply 249 | May 13, 2024 6:08 PM |
We have no idea whether Trump is considering Stephen Miller but the fact that Miller is still alive and well and firmly allied with Trump, tells me that if Trump gets in the White House Stephen Miller will play a very significant role . He may even be the shadow POTUS. Everyone knows Trump's mind is fucked up. He probably has dementia. So whoever his VP is, they will be running the show. I betcha the positioning and negotiating is very intense right now. But it's also high risk, because Trump really is damaged goods.
by Anonymous | reply 250 | May 13, 2024 6:15 PM |
If Trump picks Scott, there will probably be an accidental fall out a window by February.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | May 14, 2024 3:18 AM |
It won't be Scott. He will give Scott a job, but he isn't giving him the VP. I think he wants someone he can feel safe with. That's why he may go with someone he is familiar with like the Gov. of Arkansas. She knows exactly how to work with him. And she never waivered in defending him and explaining and justifying his rotten filthy shit. She obviously has a stench of her own and is unbothered by the stench of Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 252 | May 14, 2024 3:23 AM |
Or, R251, a fall off the window when Trump has Scott washing the windows?
by Anonymous | reply 253 | May 14, 2024 3:41 AM |
J.D. Vance is turning out to be a politician like Martin Sheen in "The Dead Zone". Any hope that he'd be a champion of The Common Hillbilly has gone out the window. He is raw ambition and greed.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | May 14, 2024 3:51 AM |
I could see JD Vance because he appeals to Dump worship of "strong men". Vance is a dipshit but that does not matter to Dump. Just that raw stir up the crowd anger for Dump to manipulate is what is appealing for him.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | May 14, 2024 6:44 AM |
I don’t think it’s going to be Vance,
by Anonymous | reply 256 | May 14, 2024 9:34 AM |
I'm thinkin Trump is gon na be dealing with Melania pretty soon. I'm thinking she's going to file. Because that discussion Michael Cohen reported on in court, where he says to Michael, "How long do you think I'd be on the market?" Like he's some big time player. He was basically saying he didn't care about Mel. She was disposable. He was worried about his campaign, hearing about Stormy not whether or not Melania heard. What a total pig.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | May 14, 2024 10:41 PM |
What's ironic, is if Melania did file for divorce, no one would care. Would have been scandalous had any other spouse of a president do that. But she's burned her bridges, was all in with the lies and Trump so I dont think she would bet much sympathy at this point.
