I think you need an invite to join right now. Jack Dorsey originally set it up while he still owned Twitter.
Is Anyone Using Twitter Alternative Bluesky?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 17, 2024 2:08 AM |
I am using it and had two invites but gave them away. I will post as more become available.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 4, 2023 4:43 AM |
I am on the waiting list for the invitation code. I can not tolerate Twitter anymore. It is a cesspool of hate and misinformation.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 4, 2023 4:54 AM |
I'm waiting for Zuckerberg's alternative which is to be released shortly, I'm not signing up for Dorsey's anything.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 4, 2023 5:36 AM |
Just came across this article that Threads (Zuckerberg's Twitter clone) apparently launches on Thursday. I haven't been able to warm up to Mastodon despite trying really hard, so I hope one of these takes off and that it's not a total right-wing hellhole.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 4, 2023 5:42 AM |
Does anyone know when they’ll open up Bluesky to everyone? Have they set any date?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 4, 2023 5:43 AM |
No date, it'll take some time, they just added the blocking functionality a week or so ago, so it's all still deep in beta. Meta's alternative will probably take off faster because of the Instagram connection.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 4, 2023 5:48 AM |
Is there a good way to get an invite? Does everyone who becomes a member get invited to give out?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 4, 2023 7:21 AM |
The whole appeal of BlueSky is the invite system, which gives it an air of exclusivity. But to put things into cold hard perspective, it has around 100k members, which is about how many switched from Twitter to Mastodon since Musk instituted the caps last week.
We'll see which platform the celebs and the sports reporters choose, those will most likely determine the winner of this fight. The big unknown remains the porn content, which is what gave Twitter a new dose of life when Tumblr went pure. Doubt that'll be allowed on Threads, I don't know about BlueSky though.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 4, 2023 8:34 AM |
Bluesky has been open to all for about 6 months; when it opened up, its membership increased to 5 million and has been gradually falling ever since.
Most people just use it as a backup for Twitter and Threads. I give it another year at most.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 25, 2024 10:27 PM |
It’s OK but I probably don’t follow enough people to really make it worthwhile.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 25, 2024 10:32 PM |
It's my backup for Xwitter. I seem to have fallen on the dreary left of centre algorithm side with a load of Sheilas!!!!! People seem to be really nice, then I remember it's not the filth that is Xwitter.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 25, 2024 10:41 PM |
People on Bluesky *are* generally nice, unless you admit to supporting Biden. Then you get accused of personally slaughtering Palestinian babies.
I quit after realizing I don’t belong there, since I’m not a poly trans furry from Portland and my username didn’t contain “🇵🇸🔻 ☭ 🍉”.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 25, 2024 10:48 PM |
It’s a far leftist platform full of nothing but tranny prostitutes, aspies, and the most miserable people on the planet.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 25, 2024 10:51 PM |
No. What is Bluesky?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 25, 2024 10:55 PM |
^ Google is yr friend.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 26, 2024 12:04 AM |
there's no point to DL if we just google anything that we'd otherwise talk about, r15.
also, fuck off.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 26, 2024 12:49 AM |
There’s been some increased buzz and movement of more liberal/Dem voices over to BlueSky. Too soon to say if it’s just a post-election reaction or a real migration but something is happening.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 10, 2024 3:38 PM |
I need a long fucking break from politics. I don't want to get sucked back into the doomscrolling. It didn't do anything good for us before and it certainly won't help matters now.
Maybe I'll change my mind in a few months, but right now, I don't see the need.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 10, 2024 4:03 PM |
I saw people from my Twitter feed moving over there so I peeked around but for some reason most of the stuff on there was pets, that must be my algorithm. It seemed boring, I think Threads is a better alternative.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 13, 2024 9:47 PM |
There’s been some buzz about it on DailyKos, this past week.,Hundreds of us regulars are joining and leaving X/Twitter.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 13, 2024 9:51 PM |
I just switched over today. I find there's sufficient of those I used to follow and am very happy to leave Twitter to what it is.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 13, 2024 9:52 PM |
Yep. It’s good and people are finding me and vice versa.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 13, 2024 9:56 PM |
Yes, and it is great
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 13, 2024 10:00 PM |
So far, so good. They’ve been great at keeping out the riff raff. Laura Loomer set up an account over there and it was deleted.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 13, 2024 10:39 PM |
I don't think there is an algorithm r20 - that's part of how they're selling it. You curate your own. I'm not a tech person though so I can't really explain wtf that means. I just know I started using it again this week after joining last year and forgetting about it, and it's a much better experience now that there are more people on there and Twitter has turned into a total clusterfuck. The block option is hardcore so you really can cultivate what you see. So far so good but inevitably it will go wrong -- these social media platforms always do eventually. But for now, I'm riding it!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 13, 2024 10:44 PM |
It is good for now. Bunch of my friends have moved over and are leaving both Facebook and Twitter.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 13, 2024 11:10 PM |
Troons. Troons are using it, I don't think anyone else is.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 13, 2024 11:14 PM |
I just joined it yesterday. Easy peasy, no invite necessary. Haven't looked at it since then.
We'll see if it takes off.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 13, 2024 11:14 PM |
I was on threads for awhile. It’s really not a good replacement for the original Twitter. I ended up deleting it
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 13, 2024 11:37 PM |
Yeah, threads = Zuckerborg and I'm not good with that.
Which billionaire is commoditizing me on bluesky?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 13, 2024 11:57 PM |
I'm finding Bluesky to be pretty pleasant so far. Much better than stupid Threads that won't let you escape its terrible algorithm.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 14, 2024 12:14 AM |
I just joined it. It's nice. No crazy MAGA, no crazy Musk.
It's up to about 15 million. Will need a lot more to really matter.
So join it!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 15, 2024 6:39 PM |
Bluesky has been blocking MAGAts when they sign up and other users have created and shared related blocked lists as well.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 15, 2024 6:52 PM |
Sigh ...
“When Musk first bought Twitter, the first things he did were rolling back moderation on transphobia on the platform and because of that we were the first group to leave Twitter in numbers,” journalist Katelyn Burns told Vox. “Because of that, a large group of funny, talented trans posters were the earliest adopters of Bluesky and were able to forge the platform into what it is today: funny, frequently horny, and with very strong moderation tools. [bold]If you like Bluesky’s vibe right now, thank a trans person.[/bold]”
Marsha P. Johnson posted the first post at Bluesky!
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 15, 2024 7:41 PM |
Katelyn isn't wrong about that, R36. Credit where due.
This new swing really took off the day after the election, when Taylor Swift's fanbase community made the move and told everyone to tell everyone etc. From there it spread fast into other communities and demographics.
When I checked out DailyKos last weekend they were abuzz about it, most of the most valuable writers and community members had set up on BlueSky and said they'd left X. (Exceptions being the ones covering Ukraine, which still relies on X for their best contacts over there)
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 15, 2024 8:12 PM |
I have joined. There is a a rapidly growing science community.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 15, 2024 8:14 PM |
a large group of funny, talented trans posters were the earliest adopters of Bluesky and were able to forge the platform into what it is today: funny, frequently horny
Sounds great.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 15, 2024 8:20 PM |
Yes. It is very boring so far—mostly journalists promoting their work. I miss the open hostility of Twitter. Also the app itself is not well designed.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 15, 2024 8:23 PM |
There’s nothing wrong with the design of the app.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 15, 2024 8:29 PM |
The design is simply the old twitter design. And you like shit stirring? Just stay on the DL
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 15, 2024 8:33 PM |
I miss the open hostility of Twitter.
Not fucked up at all.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 15, 2024 8:43 PM |
You can’t even post gifs. R42.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 15, 2024 8:53 PM |
R43, that’s just the kind of humorless reaction one would expect of a Bluesky user.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 15, 2024 8:54 PM |
And R45 is just kind of sulk you'd expect from a moron. Wanna keep playing, santorum?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 15, 2024 8:56 PM |
Will the pron whores migrate as well?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 15, 2024 9:30 PM |
I LOVE IT! Yes, the pron whores are there as well. It’s also civil and I see no ads at the top and people are not fighting. So far no conspiracy theories and spewing out lies. I see things I like and choose. For me, it’s better than instagram and all the others.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 16, 2024 4:01 PM |
It really, really picked up this week.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 16, 2024 4:17 PM |
Left Twitter long ago rather it left me when Muskie turned it into XXX aka Trumplandia. Vile cesspool of incel fachist haters and those they worship.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 16, 2024 4:30 PM |
Today on Bluesky:
New York Times Pitchbot quoted a Maureen Dowd column that referred to "Elania" Musk and now the poor Pitchbot is being accused of TRANSPHOBIA.
