I disagree, in part, with the actress you mentioned in The Idol. EVERYONE sucked in that. So did she, of course. However, singling out her feels a bit like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But I do agree that Laverne Cox was simply horrendous in an otherwise well acted show. And I totally agree it's trendy to hire a trans actor. For sure. And the best of the trans bunch doesn't seem to be all that great.

My guess is that talented trans actors will surface now that they are more visible and accepted en masse.

Ash Palmisciano who plays Matty Barton on Emmerdale is pretty good.

They all still look like their actual sex though, so aren't even good actors at making believe at that.

Ellen Page was really good in Tales of the City I am not so sure there are going to be similar roles for Elliott.

If the character they play is non trans, and that's important to the character, and the trans actor can't pass? It takes me out of the story.

The Idol character didn't do that for me, however. Because while it was clear she was trans, that fact was not important to her character development.

The bar was lowered to the maximum physics allows for Jen Richards to stink up "The Mayfair Witches". That was fucking ridiculous casting. My burly Uncle Alton could have donned a frock from Dress Barn, and looked better as JoJo.

Jesse James Keitel in "Big Sky" was pleasant to watch, even though the show itself is pretty stupid.

I agree that Murray Hill is good in "Somebody Somewhere". That show is as good as it gets.

I have seen a handful of episodes of Loot the and black Latina trans actress Michaela Rodriguez is actually not bad.

R14 oh yes completely forgot about her. She is dam good on that show. Her character’s story arc has actually made me more sympathetic to them. I know I guess I have been suckered in by Hollywood. Its weird. My friend got me into the show and when we started watching it I was trying to guess who the trans actor was before her cinematic narrative is revealed. She is unclockable and passes.

Chilean actress Daniela Vega is excellent. She was also in the reboot of Tales of the City on Netflix.

MJ Rodriguez is pretty amazing. Here she is playing a cisgender Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors. No one could ever top Ellen Greene in that role but she’s pretty brave for taking on someone else’s unimpeachable version and does more than a respectable job.

OP, you may be too young to remember this, but Caitlyn Jenner was fantastic in “Can’t Stop The Music.”

I think the Euphoria trans storyline is fantastic. It doesn't feel forced or agenda driven. It's powerful without feeling after-school-special-y.

The character is flawed, fucked up, human. Not wise beyond their years or a professional victim like so many trans characters. That's a good sign to me. It means trans characters are becoming more well rounded. Not just 100% sinner or saint.

And the actor (actress?) is damn good.

No idea about her acting, but Janet Mock is one of the most convincing transwomen I’ve ever seen.

Alexandra Billings is an excellent actress - also a phenomenal cabaret singer.
