David Corenswet did not impress me much in Hollywood. Though really to play Superman you don't need to be a great actor so that's fine.

Brosnahan is a good actress but she is so similar to Margot Kidder she will never compare favorably to her as Lois. That’s why Bryan Singer didn’t even bother trying to when he cast Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns which was a sequel to the Donner films.

The real question is will this movie be any good. The cold truth is Superman is a boring character. He has no real personality, he is too powerful for good dramatic tension, and his backstory as an alien refugee but don't worry looks exactly human is pretty dumb.

I agree r15. Like others mentioned in the movies, the only way for Superman to be interesting on Earth is for him to destroy his home, Metropolis. Makes one wonder if he's a benefit or hindrance to the city.

A way to make Superman work is to place him on another planet, make up a reason, where his powers can be drawn down. This would match with some Comic Adventures and allow the character to start off at a disadvantage.

Of course, they will just make another boring storing in Metropolis or saving the Earth.

The first thing I thought of with Corenswet's casting is that he doesn't have black hair. I think of Superman as having really black hair. They'll dye Corenswet's hair, of course, but I think it'll look a little odd. But not as odd as if Superman had brown hair!

I agree with R100 that Emma Mackey would have made a good Lois, but Rachel is great and has real comic timing, which Lois needs. She's the better actress of the two, though they're both talented.

But I agree with the other posters, OJC is too British and way too fucking old to play Clark Kent. I could see him as Oliver Queen or one of the Green Lanterns or even John Constantine, for which he's a popular fan cast, but not Clark Kent. The same applies to Nicholas Hoult. David is really cute in a quiet farmboy kind of way, which Clark is supposed to be. I like this casting a lot!

In some ways, I wish he had chose someone as random, like Pratt was, for Superman. But, given that Gunn probably had his choice of young actors, I'm willing to take a wait-and-see stance on Corenswet, even if he was also my top choice when it became clear that Cavill had been dumped.

Pratt has already showed off a fit body in Zero Dark Thrity and his casting in Guardians was not considered a surprise.

Gunn benefitted from GOTG having never been depicted before. Superman and Lois have been depicted so many times before. People want to see something new.
