Have you read his new memoir, OP?

My car wants to play Songs of Innocence and I hate it.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 20, 2023 3:44 PM |
I hate this guy and to quote one of my favorite DL responses: I'd pay money to slap his face as hard as I could.
Hypocrite, pious, pretentious, short ass, smart ass, the list goes on...
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 20, 2023 3:48 PM |
R20 No...but I've skimmed it in the store and my husband read the digital version. Everything I heard and saw so far makes me not want to. And I'm one of those fans that are highly critical of Bono. I love the band but also highly irritated by them at times, many times. The way they disregard Larry nowadays and the upcoming Vegas residency pisses many of us off. Larry expressed issues with being in the band last year. Making me and thousands of others wonder if there's more involved than just his shoulder surgery in which he won't be involved in the Vegas residency. Its now just the Bono and Edge show. But let's disregard the FOUNDER of the whole damn band!! I miss the old U2, or what we thought, was the better old U2 and vision.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 20, 2023 3:52 PM |
R3 No Line on the Horizon was the last fully decent thing they made.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 20, 2023 3:53 PM |
I always preferred Cher to him..he was just a sidekick
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 20, 2023 3:55 PM |
If U2 didn't sign on for Vegas sphere, the Venetian Corp would just get some other big-name band to do it this fall. To corps, it's all the same. So U2 had to jump on the timing. I wonder what ticket prices range?
Young Bono was quite handsome and resembled Tom Holland, but he has aged like a California raisin.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 20, 2023 3:56 PM |
CUNT!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 20, 2023 3:56 PM |
R8 cheapest are $700+ and into the thousands. many with obstructed views. Was a big ruckus in the fan base over the ticketing and the unfair fanclub ticketing and some big mess-ups that went on with it that were half-assed resolved. U2 joining with Guy O'Seary as their manager and getting in with Universal was a big mistake and beginning of the big fall.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 20, 2023 3:59 PM |
R10 Very funny.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 20, 2023 3:59 PM |
I keep extending the hold from the library on his memoir, has anyone read it, is it worth the time?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 20, 2023 4:00 PM |
I will always have some love for the man, but I'm basically in the same place as R5. I was very much in love with 'Joshua Tree' era Bono. And all eras of Larry.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 20, 2023 4:02 PM |
R11 thanks for the prices, luckily I didn't bother. I thought cheapest were $300+ each. U2 became corporate grubbers when they couldn't be relevant to the general public anymore. Old manager Paul McG was a money-conniving guy too. OSeary did nothing for their relevancy.
U2 diehards are a whiny bunch, glad I stopped visiting their forums.
Listen to the audiobook instead of reading this bio, you get song snippets sung to you like a soothing, personal lullaby.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 20, 2023 4:09 PM |
Good God, I wouldn't pay $700 to see any band, let alone one which is near pension age. I went to their Popmart show back in 1997 and I thought they were already past their prime. I love the early U2 stuff, always will, but I can't stand Bono's pretentiousness and a lot of their later catalogue is just boring.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 20, 2023 4:37 PM |
I dislike his savior of Africa stance and smug mug.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 20, 2023 6:49 PM |
The Edge bought a large parcel of land in LA, hoping to build a compound. After 14 years, he lost his battle w/the government, can't build his compound.

I've posted this story several times on DL.
I used to work at a high-end chain hotel.
U2 members were guests. I heard they were in a private club room and I went up there, just to ogle.
Bono was chatting up a beautiful, young female coworker of mine.
The remaining members were sitting in the club room with maybe 4 female groupies. The atmosphere was boring, frankly.
At some point, I crossed paths in the hallway with Larry Mullen and he nodded in greeting as we passed. Yes, he was good-looking.
On another night, either the Edge or Adam Clayton (I forgot) was sitting in the bar (not a private area). Edge / Clayton was sitting with a group of men. They weren't in my section, so I didn't serve them. They were in my coworker's section. My coworker told me that Edge / Clayton smelled really bad, like BO.

A Vegas residency means they are hard up for cash. I have a feeling they lost a LOT of money on that Spiderman musical abomination.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 20, 2023 7:02 PM |
I loved early U2 as well and was not really enamored of The Joshua Tree when it first came out. Bono always seemed insufferable. And what was up with his relationship with Christy Turlington?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 20, 2023 7:04 PM |
They asked me to go to Vegas, I said Bo! No! No!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 20, 2023 8:23 PM |
Did they call him Boner in middle school?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 20, 2023 8:30 PM |
When he focuses on what he sould be only doing, which is making music, he's ok to me.
But when he starts with his insufferable antics by pretending he's some kind of modern-day Jesus Christ, he's a total pain in the ass.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 20, 2023 8:38 PM |
As soon as the Ukraine "invasion/war" began, he's over there giving a rock CONCERT. What do you think?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 20, 2023 8:45 PM |
Sonny Bono, get off my lanai!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 20, 2023 8:47 PM |
I worked with his cousin, Simon, at an Irish hotel in NYC. The cousin was a real nice guy, never told anybody he was related to Bono, but his surname was Hewson and based on where he was from in Dublin an Irish co-worker figured it out and asked him and he admitted it. His father was Bono's father's brother.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 20, 2023 8:47 PM |
An Irish hotel in NYC...is that a thing?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 20, 2023 9:23 PM |
As a teenager in the 90s, U2 was my older sister's Biggest Band in the World. I had Nirvana and Radiohead - much better options in my opinion.
But I've softened on them over them over the years. They do have a ton of great songs.
Still, Bono seems 100% insufferable.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 20, 2023 9:26 PM |
r27 is that the cousin who turned out to be Bono's half brother, because his father had an affair with one of his sister-in-laws? He discussed this when his book came out, he is now close to said half-brother/cousin.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 20, 2023 9:28 PM |
R 28, it's called the Fitzpatrick Hotel, it's an Irish hotel chain that also has US locations (2 in Manhattan, 1 in Chicago)
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 20, 2023 9:43 PM |
Try to say, 'Bono's got a boner' three three times in a row.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 20, 2023 10:04 PM |
I would like to see Bono throw his support behind the Bonobos. The Gorillas had Fossey, the Chimps have Gooddal and the Orangutans have Gladikas, but the Bonobos, by far the most interesting - especially sexually, have no one to speak for them. He’s involved in Africa shit already, why not become King of the Bonobos?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 20, 2023 10:09 PM |
I saw U2 in the '80s. IIRC, it was in an arena (enclosed, not outdoors). I could tell that the band was really trying to put on a good show. Bono was really playing to the back seats. I had to respect them for putting in the effort and making sure it was a good concert for everybody, even those in the cheaper seats.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 20, 2023 10:13 PM |
Speaking of Bono, my favorite Irish related rhyme of all time....I got a stiffy on the Liffy!!"
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 20, 2023 10:19 PM |
Another vote for Bono being insufferable.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 20, 2023 10:23 PM |
Some other thread had a story about him banging his groupies. I think he has a gorgeous voice, enjoyed some of U2's music, but otherwise I never cared to hear him yammer.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 20, 2023 10:25 PM |
R16 I'd pay 700 bucks to see Led Zeppelin, but John Bonham would have to be there.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 21, 2023 12:31 PM |
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 21, 2023 12:33 PM |
I don't pay much attention to him. What does he do that SP made that episode about him and so many other people hate him with a passion?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 21, 2023 11:34 PM |
Bono proselytizes instead of entertaining. He forgets himself.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 21, 2023 11:38 PM |
My friend's uncle used to drive celebs around. Bono was definitely a cheater, hooking up with random women.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 21, 2023 11:39 PM |
R29, I think Appetite for Destruction was bigger than Joshua Tree.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 21, 2023 11:41 PM |
For me to pay $700 for a concert, dead band members better be returning from the great beyond for the show.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 21, 2023 11:42 PM |
I wouldn't pay that kind of money to see anyone....well, maybe The Beatles. But that's the greatest group of all time. I don't know why someone would pay to see pretentious Bono preaching/singing.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | June 21, 2023 11:43 PM |
Good voice. That's all I've got.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | June 21, 2023 11:45 PM |
Rock God.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 21, 2023 11:46 PM |
Trees hate him.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 22, 2023 1:25 AM |
I can’t believe they are doing a Vegas residency without the whole band. I’ve seen U2 twice and I wouldn’t bother seeing any of them unless it was all of them.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 22, 2023 1:28 AM |
That's funny R43. My sister's second favorite band was GnR. Yeah, I would agree with you and say from 1987-91-ish it was U2 and GnR as the bands up for Biggest Band in the World. GnR sold more, U2 had more acclaim. Both were huge.
I think it was that crazy time in late 1991 when U2 released Achtung Baby and GnR released Lose Your Illusions and everyone thought they would just dominate. And they did to a certain extent. But by the end of the year Nirvana (and to a lesser extent Pearl Jam, Chili Peppers and Soundgarden) took over. Just like that.
I was 11 at the time and had just started my obsession with music. I had no idea how good I had it!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | June 22, 2023 1:45 AM |
How much of the score from Spider-Man: The Musical do they play during the concert?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 22, 2023 2:28 AM |
R50, yes, you are so right about 1991. That year was massive for blockbuster albums in general. Dangerous, Use Your Illusion I and II, The Black Album, Nevermind, Achtung Baby, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Out of Time, Waking Up The Neighbors, Ropin' The Wind. All massive, gigantic albums. I don't know if there was/will ever be a year with that many big albums ever again.

How much does Cher wish it was this one that died on the slopes?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 22, 2023 3:58 AM |
He used to wear sunglasses in every interview, I think one pair had a bluish tint.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 22, 2023 12:58 PM |
To hide the druggy eyes?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 22, 2023 2:41 PM |
Apparently he and his wife are said to have had threesomes with Patsy Kensit.
His wife is said to have had threesomes with Paula Yates and Michael Hutchence.
And was it only his wife sleeping with Helena Christensen, or Bono too?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 22, 2023 7:22 PM |
R56, Patsy must be blind, the poor thing. She is/was stunning. She can do better.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 22, 2023 7:36 PM |
Didn't Christy Turlington say something about finding Ali hot? Bono said all the beautiful women end up falling for Ali.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 23, 2023 5:28 AM |
I read a biography about the band about 30yrs ago, and I was the dullest worst biography about anybody I'd ever read. I have always liked their music and, omg Bono was gorgeous especially in the video for One. As long as I don't hear his proselytizing I like him.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 23, 2023 7:43 AM |
I had a major U2 phase in the mid/late 90's. Bono was a fox....short, on all accounts, but very handsome. Very masculine, viril features.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 23, 2023 7:53 AM |
Why aren’t they getting more work on Broadway?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 23, 2023 12:39 PM |
R59, was God mentioned 10000 times? I can see a bio about pompous Bono doing that.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 23, 2023 1:37 PM |
When I was working in Dupont Circle in the early 2000's he was apparently at some hotel in the area, I remember my coworker telling me he'd landed. We were all agog.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 23, 2023 2:31 PM |
I can't say I ever really cared for him / them, but Achtung, Baby and Zooroopa are both great.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | June 23, 2023 2:49 PM |
R64 happy to find someone that also likes Zooropa, don't know anyone else that does. The last good U2 album afaic.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 23, 2023 5:14 PM |
I used to be such a fan then Bono turned so sleazy looking
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 25, 2023 2:03 AM |
U2 and Madonna's careers had similar ups and downs. And both have suffered massive declines in popularity. The itunes deal for U2 really was the killer.
