'Foundation' season 2
Thank god they clocked that Lee Pace was the best part of the first season and have given him an expanded role going forward, starting with using his face for the trailer thumbnail. Now in a mesh tank top and with a stylish earring to increase his appeal even more.
[quote]More than a century after the Season 1 finale, tension mounts throughout the galaxy. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy Empire from within.
July 14 on Apple TV.

That's all very well, but it still has absolutely nothing to do with Asimov's Foundation series.

r1 The palace intrigue is apparently all original material and it's by far my favourite part of the show. So I guess I'm glad this adaptation has little to do with the books?

Well, aside from the title "Foundation", Hari Seldon and Trantor not one fucking thing.

No, he's one of the Cleons.

Heard from an Asimov fan that the series is way off the books.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 11, 2023 5:12 AM

It is, but there's an argument to be made that it's unfilmable in its original form as it's quite impersonal and takes place over huge time scales. That just doesn't work when you need to dramatise it for TV, you'd constantly have brand-new characters with no real emotional connection to any of them. Not that we have an emotional connection with these ones; apart from the Empire stuff, they all kinda suck.

R10 It could be forgiven for not being true to the books if it were good in its own right (I've no idea, I haven't seen it).
Unlike the steaming pile of shit they call "Rings of Power".

Rings of Power is great, you're just a deplorable.

First episode was quite awesome. Naked, shredded Lee Pace kicking ass all over the place and Demerzel being a boss bitch bodes well for the rest of the season. Even Salvor Hardin and her mom somehow didn't annoy me.
Once again, this show is sci-fi porn; no other show has these kinds of visuals.

Bonus shot of Pace holding his clone homosexually.
Stunning costumes, as always.

Does he have sex with said clone?

No, but there's a weird moment where the clone says they're something more and I thought they were going to kiss.
That actor, Cassian Bilton, a fellow homo, is very pretty.

Cassian is quite a-a-a-attractive, R17.

They're all the same clone of the original emperor from centuries ago, but at different stages in life – Dawn, Day, and Dusk. In this shot neatly lined up with Dawn closest to the source of light and Dusk almost in the shadows.
Once the oldest one dies, a new clone gets "decanted", ad infinitum.

Ben Daniels enters stage as a gay pirate-cum-general. Here with his husband, another homo well known to DL, Dino Fetscher. Great touching scenes together.
Good on Apple for casting gay actors in gay roles.

Lee Pace secretly watching them make out as he's having his hair stroked by his android. This show is wild where Empire scenes are concerned.

I just caught up to this E3 and was interested in learning more about Dino Fetscher. There was some mention of him on DL a couple years ago: a mythical sex video or jo bud, but not much else. When I google his name directly, Russell Tovey comes up as an association, but I did t see anything clearly linking them. What’s up with that?
But I am here for any sex scenes between Bel and Glay… with Day hiding in an adjoining closet, beating off.

I feel like they're missing something with the Empire scenes. A major reason to show the Empire scenes would be to show WHY the galaxy is slipping into a dark age that would take 30,000 years to recover AND how the Foundation would reduce that to 1,000.
Rather than random debauchery, they need to show more clearly the social, political, and economic forces that are slowly breaking apart the Empire and how those forces will result in thousands of years of chaos.
We can get nekkid Lee Pace scenes which also serve that story and theme purpose and get a better show for it.

R14 has managed to sell me on this series. Well, that and La Belle Pace - he's always a strong draw although I'm concerned about his eyebrows. They're taking over his entire face.
Still, that bod is hot AF and I am definitely down for some Sci-fi porn.

It’s a great show but I’m concerned that it’s too esoteric so will drop in ratings and become the next American Gods (ie: a show I love that gets cancelled a few seasons in because of costs).

Rings of power was fine once you get past the jarring, performative casting choices (and unless you’re a racist, you get past it pretty quickly), and a few other things (Galadriel is annoying).

Yeah, the production design is out of this world and must cost a fortune, whereas in something like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, you basically have expensive costumes and nice CG, but then Canadian towns as stand-ins for colonies. That sort of budget is obviously unsustainable if the ratings aren't there, even for Apple.
Anyway, another great episode, although I'm missing the two special ops homos who kick ass then stop to have a lover's quarrel. Is Demerzel running the whole show in the background? Is she actually the Empress Hanlo herself?
Hober Marlow is fucking beautiful and the facial hair does wonders for the actor, Dimitri Leonidas. Perfect hair, perfect skin, perfect nails... I just want to miniaturise him and stick him up my ass!

I find the young actress who plays Salvor Hardin to be absolutely atrocious. I’ve found myself fast forwarding her scenes. She has two settings: mumbling or shouting. That’s it.

More droolworthy sci-fi visuals this week. The Spacers are so intriguing to me, wonder what they're cooking up in that hive of theirs. Hari's flashback segment came out of nowhere but was quite poignant, and those moonshrikes are a fantastic concept. Hober Marlow remains beautiful. But where the hell are the two gay soldiers?
r32 I've seen people elsewhere commenting that she's way less annoying this season and I have to agree. I think someone suggested to her she scowl less and it's made all the difference in the world, she doesn't bother me anymore. And of course the reduced screen time helps a lot as well. It's her mom's awful narration in that damn South African but not really accent that annoys me the most now.

Oh, and the actress playing the new empress Sareth bobbles her head a bit too much. Like, at all times. It's starting to piss me off.

I find the actress playing Gaal to be a zillion times worse than the actress playing her daughter.

Lots of homo-on-homo violence in the season finale, Pace and Daniels damn near touched tips at one point.
What an improvement over the first season this has been, I'm seeing people raving about it everywhere. I've noticed Jane Espenson took on a more active writing role this season and it fucking shows.
RIP Salvor Hardin, they killed you off just as you stopped annoying me and were actually kinda growing on me.
Also RIP Hober Marlow, that galaxy simply couldn't handle your beauty.

Hail the plot armor of the Vault! lol *spoiler warning for the S2 finale, obviously*
Yeah, Hober was sexy as a son of a bitch. I was slightly hoping he and the general would hold each other tenderly at the end. Good on them for casting openly gay actors in the roles of Gen. Riose & Glawen. I loved the tension overall. Demrezel is really convincing and I've loved pretty much every second of her performances in this arc...just like her arc on the spiral, religious planet. I'm gay as hell, but I love the thought of Dawn's hot twink cock erupting into Sareth's fertile garden, but I wish they'd made one of the previous Dawn clones gay for fun. Randomly, I was thinking that the Mule was Brother Constant's father, but I guess that's not the case.

Love Demerzel – arguably the best part of the show – but robots like her make me nervous. Just like with Spacers, I have a bad feeling about them; seems to me they're constantly waiting for an opportunity to eradicate humanity and replace it with their superior kind. The fact that she's 18,000 years old makes my brain melt, as does the fact that she was created on our Earth.
I actually thought Mama Spacer would save Riose and Hober at the last second because her daughter was on that ship. Crazy how many of their own they were willing to sacrifice. Again, that makes me nervous.
Mule's villain monologue in the coda was kinda weird. He was just talking to himself?

In case you haven't been reading them, show co-creator David Goyer's season 2 behind-the-scenes blogs are wonderful.
Apparently Ben Daniels broke a rib filming the finale fight with Lee Pace!

That was a hell of a fight scene. Day started out the season fighting with assassins, and ended with a fight with his general. Loved how Demerzel basically said “byeee” before the fight. She cut her losses and left.
The ending scene with Riose and Hober was near perfect, facing death with terrible wine, toasting Beki’s (sp?) arsehole.
I agree with R35, that actress was shrill and annoying on some episodes.

Would it be crazy to submit some of the cast for Emmys? Harris, Pace, Birn, and Daniels all deserve nominations.
More certain are additional Creative Arts category nominations. Jane Petrie's costumes should win!
