Which celebrity did you go to high school with?

I have the distinction of attending school with both Chris Evans and Succession brooder Jeremy Strong.

by Anonymousreply 192June 28, 2023 8:16 PM

What were they like?

by Anonymousreply 1June 13, 2023 1:41 AM

Zendaya graduated the year before me.

by Anonymousreply 2June 13, 2023 1:42 AM

Sean Patrick Flanery was a friend of a friend and Paul Begala also attended my HS, though I only got to know him later. Only two I can think of right now.

by Anonymousreply 3June 13, 2023 1:44 AM

I graduated Jamestown High with Lucille Ball. God, I miss her.

R12, Years ago, Chris Evans was the kid behind the cash register at the convenience store in Sudbury, MA where I often stopped to buy a newspaper, magazine or drink.

by Anonymousreply 14June 13, 2023 2:24 AM

Jesus Christ, Jeremy Strong is from Sudbury, too? Fuck, these fuckers keep ruining my hometown.

by Anonymousreply 15June 13, 2023 2:25 AM

My spouse went to school with Sherilyn Fenn. Said she always wore headbands and dated much older guys. Didn’t associate with kids at school. But stunningly beautiful.

Lisa Kudrow, Dave Koz, Robbie "Cousin Oliver" Rist (they were seniors, I was a freshman); Dana Plato was the actual "star" at the time, she was a year ahead of me and only attended the school for one semester. I went to middle school and high school with Justine Bateman, who was a year behind me (she started Family Ties her junior year and left the school -- I guess to be schooled on set).

by Anonymousreply 22June 13, 2023 3:19 AM

I guess Robbie Rist was kind of a star at the time, also.

by Anonymousreply 23June 13, 2023 3:20 AM

Narciso Rodriguez. Does it count?

by Anonymousreply 24June 13, 2023 3:26 AM

r22 Do you have any interesting stories about Dana Plato or Justine Bateman?

by Anonymousreply 25June 13, 2023 3:30 AM

R19, why not just name him?

by Anonymousreply 26June 13, 2023 3:46 AM

r25 Unfortunately, no. I in fact only saw Dana once in the school cafeteria, hanging out with a group of African American students (it was a predominantly white school in the San Fernando Valley, and kids from the inner cities were bussed in throughout the 80s).

When I went to middle school with Justine Bateman (1979/80), she wasn't famous at all, she was just "Justine", lol. Kinda popular, friendly. I didn't see her as much in high school; the freshmen, juniors, and seniors all had their own curricula, so we didn't have any classes together like we did in middle school. I didn't watch Family Ties when it first aired, and when it was going around the school that Justine was in it, she was only at the school a couple of days a week, before finally leaving for good at the end of the first semester.

by Anonymousreply 27June 13, 2023 3:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 42June 13, 2023 3:59 PM

I went to college with a famous crypto CEO, Meryl Streep's daughter, Thomas Pynchon's son, and a girl from the musical Spring Awakening.

by Anonymousreply 43June 13, 2023 4:31 PM

The closest I come is my junior high nemesis, whose name I doubt anyone would recognize as he's more a working actor who's had a couple of supporting roles in TV series. I did see his face torn off in a movie once, which was far more disturbing than I'd have expected.

by Anonymousreply 44June 13, 2023 4:35 PM

Not in high school, but I attended college with, and knew in passing, The Undertaker (Mark Calaway). Very nice, cool, guy. When he told everyone he was going to become a pro wrestler, we were all, sure, buddy, have another beer. I met him again after graduation, and he said he was training and participating in matches (this was late 1989 or early 1990). I thought, man, what a waste. Within a couple of years, he was hitting the big time and making millions. (I was still looking for a good job, lol).

by Anonymousreply 47June 13, 2023 5:24 PM

My niece and nephew both attended Bishop DuBourg High School in St. Louis the same time as Jack Dorsey.

by Anonymousreply 48June 13, 2023 5:28 PM

Peter Krause from "Six Feet Under," "Sports Night" and "Parenthood," among other things. We were friends, and I had a hopeless crush on him (he had the most unbelievable butt at that age--he had been a varsity gymnast whose specialty was the pommel horse). He was very funny and sarcastic, and he had a small group of close male friends I wasn't a part of until he got involved in theater his senior year. A nice guy, but we did not stay friends much after high school. He briefly dated my current sister-in-law.

by Anonymousreply 49June 13, 2023 5:28 PM

Other people who went to my high school, but not while I was there: Loni Anderson, Richard Dean Anderson, the lead performer in Har-Mar Superstar (which is named for a horrible early 1960s mall in my hometown). Also many well-known athletes--for an obscure suburban Twin Cities high school it had a surprising number of TV stars and professional athletes who attended.

by Anonymousreply 54June 13, 2023 11:10 PM

r18, I'm not normally into blonds, but I remember he did a photoshoot for a magazine and had the most amazing golden pubes. I think he shaved them off in most of the films he was in or the awful lighting didn't pick them up.

For those who don't know him, Ty was a PE teacher who got outed as being a gay porn actor. Marriage and job gone in an instant!

Pro baseball player Jason Kipnis, the Duke Basketball Coach Jon Scheyer, and the K-Pop star John Park. by Anonymousreply 59June 13, 2023 11:44 PM

2 guys I graduated with from high school both became actors in Hollywood. No names that anyone would recognize, but character actors with hundreds of credits to their names in the past 30-35 years. One has had so much plastic surgery, we never recognize him at our reunions. Both guys were attractive in high school, got much better looking in their 20s and started off as gay male strippers in WeHo when they first arrived their in the late 80s. (Both are straight and married).

My older brother (who was living with our divorced dad) went to Newton South High School in Massachusetts at the same time as John Krasinski and BJ Novak from THE OFFICE. He doesn't remember them, because it's a big school, but after they became famous, we learned that they were part of the same graduating class (1997).

Also, in the 1990s my mom taught at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA, while John Cena was a student there, but of course he was nobody then, so like Krasinski and Novak we only realized this after the fact. Bette Davis was another famous alumni, but that was way before our time.

Brett Michaels went to my high school and I finally went through my Year books thinking maybe I could sell it, but it looks like I was in 9th grade when he was a senior and the high school was 10-12 grade at that time, so it’s the Year book before I got there.

The other two famous people are the guy who wrote the movies Se7en and 8 MM and a minor major league baseball player who abandoned his pet dog at home for months on end letting it starve to death, just as my state expanded its animal abuse laws and he got a very stiff jail sentence.

by Anonymousreply 136June 16, 2023 12:51 AM

I went to high school with Glenda Jackson. I wonder what she's up to these days ?

by Anonymousreply 137June 16, 2023 3:13 AM

R136: The ball player was Shawn Abner, who apparently went off to visit his girlfriend and did not bother to make arrangements for his senior dog, a husky named Eagle.

He says he left food and water for the animal, but he was enjoying his stay with the girlfriend so he didn't bother about the dog, letting it slowly die of thirst and starvation, whichever came first.

It's actually an unthinkably cruel act. He could have boarded the dog or at least let his neighbor, whom he was friendly with, look after Eagle.

As it was, when the neighbor finally was asked to check on the dog, he found it had become mummified and was "melting" into the wooden floor. It died next to the front door, as if it had tried to figure out how to escape. Its urine had caused the floor to buckle.

Why do these cretins get dogs if they don't care about them?

I went to high school with Elizabeth Taylor, who really slew in all the plays she performed in.

Post HS I became good friends with Debbie Reynolds, who was kind of a slut.

Both chicks just have the same name as the celebrities, it’s just odd that the only two people I know with famous names are those two!

My father, born in 1937, went to school with Bing Crosby's hell raising twin sons, they all attended Bellarmine College Preparatory. Evidently Crosby was a mean alcoholic, or so the story went.

by Anonymousreply 145June 16, 2023 9:54 AM

Those boys were ungrateful little pricks. And Bing was a lousy lay!

Noone in high school (well, maybe a Streisand lookalike who went on to be a professional singer) but do I get any points for going to elementary school with Patty Duke?

I didn’t go to school with him but Darryl Hall was from our school. People started stealing his school books when his name was listed in the front. His real last name was Hohl.

R149 what elementary school did you attend that you went to school with Patty Duke?

by Anonymousreply 155June 16, 2023 8:35 PM

Kimmy Cakes. She is unrecognizable now, but she was DYING to be famous.

by Anonymousreply 156June 16, 2023 9:07 PM

Jeffrey Dahmer. Which explains why our graduating class kept shrinking.

Mum went with actor Martin Clunes. They weren't friends and didn't socialise. She said he was quiet, literate, conscientious as a student, nice enough but rather dull. At the time his salient ears were the most memorable thing about him. She's been quietly surprised by his success on-screen and in media, though not by his modest lifestyle.

My sister went with actress & model Wallis Day. Apparently Wallis is quite lovely and down-to-Earth, very normal and secure and unpretentious for a beautiful woman. She and my sister were friendly but not friends, and naturally lost touch. My sister never saw or knew Wallis as anything other than straight, so was a bit confused to hear of Wallis coming out and dating women.

And I didn't attend with anyone currently famous, though there were quite a few success stories out of my class in medicine and academia. The artists in my graduating year are talented but haven't hit the big time. Iirc the older brother of one of my female classmates was a principal violinist for the BBC Orchestras at one point but isn't anymore, that's as close as it gets. A handful of my former Uni classmates are semi-celebrities on the fringe U.K. comedy or politics scene now, and my older cousin (bitchy closet queen) has had a few videos of him singing go viral before.

She was there 40 years before me, but I went to the same high school as the actress who played Marilyn on the Munsters.

by Anonymousreply 164June 17, 2023 5:47 AM

I went to school with Ethan Hawke.

Ed McCaffrey from the Denver Broncos and father of demi stud Christian was in my H.S. homeroom for 4 years. Christine Taylor was 2years behind me.

The most famous person to go to my high school was actually the first black homecoming queen in the history of the university I went to . . . about 12 years before I attended either. We have not had a single graduate become a household word.

by Anonymousreply 170June 17, 2023 1:36 PM

R170 - With practically everyone in the world having their 15 minutes, you would think SOMEONE famous would have gone to my school at the same time I did. But nope. It was a smallish prep school in South Florida, so it just churned out the usual array of doctors and lawyers but no movie stars or even a freaking serial killer.

Donatella Versace’s former husband, American model, Paul Beck. This photo is from about 40+ years ago and is the only pic I can locate that is close to how he looked in high school. He’s 68 now. Total jock. Unsurprisingly, he was a bit of a prick.

Responding to [R155] about what school I attended with Patty Duke: Ascension School in Elmhurst, Queens, New York. She missed a lot of school because she was 'in training' with her awful abusive aunt and uncle who she was living with in preparation for Miracle Worker. (the play). Those people were evil....

A friend's sister attended a Long Island high school with DL fave Alec Baldwin. She said, he was very good looking, but didn't want to be the center of attention, she had no clue he was striving for any sort of fame.

Another friend attended a different Long Island high school with the now very successful and well-known celebrity photographer Kevin Mazur. Kevin mostly shoots musicians, he also travels with some very famous musicians on tour. IIRC, Kevin co-owns WireImage, the celebrity photo agency.

That friend told me, in high school, Kevin showed absolutely zero interest in photography, he never carried around a camera, she was shocked when she found out how successful he became. She was attending a concert, where she had close up seats, think it was for The Police or a Sting solo gig, she noticed Kevin in the photo pit. She was baffled why he was there. I told her Kevin Mazur was a well-known in-demand music photographer.

Not a "celebrity" per se, but I did attend middle/senior high school with the candy striper from Donna Summer's "She Works Hard for the Money" video. We were just about to graduate when that video came out.

Not a celebrity but an actor who was a regular on The Walking Dead when it was still the number one show on TV. She had a sad death on the show.

Amy Carter in grad school when I was an undergrad. Never met her.

And then the weirdest was that I’m the and age and grew up in the same city as Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett. And all the smart kids in New Orleans and throughout the whole state knew all the other smart kids from the other schools through debate, quiz bowl, academic competitions. She was not one of those kids. When she was nominated to be a Supreme Court Justice literally everyone I know went “Who?? How have I never met or heard of this person??”

Apparently she spent all her time at church events and didn’t do academic extracurricular stuff because nobody knew who she was. She didn’t participate or compete in anything. That was odd.
