Anybody else watching. Such good reviews but I’m finding the acting or dialogue a bit cringe this season. Ellis is a hottie, the main smiley character is the stuff of nightmares.
FROM horror TV show, a bit like Lost, with the guy from Lost

I tried last year or whenever it premiered, and it was a too-slow-drip for me.

I'm watching. I started a thread about a week ago but seemed no one else has been watching. So far I'm hooked. Seems to be a lot of new or previously unheard of, to me at least, actors.
Yes, the smiley face guy is beyond fucked up.

Aside from Harold P., Eion Bailey, and a couple others, the acting is horrible. Especially the girl who plays Bailey’s daughter. She overacts in every scene. It’s awful. I hate her.
I think this show is best as a binge. I watched the entire first season in one go and it was great. This season I’m doing it weekly and it’s not as interesting.
But still, worth watching.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 5, 2023 5:29 PM |
R4 yeah the acting is terrible, I’ve actually looked away a few times this season as it’s been so cringe. But I have to stick with it now, it’s worth it for the horror parts. Sorry R3 I did a search before I posted but couldn’t see your thread.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 5, 2023 5:33 PM |
Just finished the latest episode minutes ago. Enjoyed the first season, which I binged in a couple of days, but it has leaned into its worst aspects in the second one. It's basically turned into Apple's Invasion where people are surrounded by the most magical shit, but instead waste most of their time on endless dialogues about the most inane relationship drama that would already be considered stale back in the Lost days.
The showrunners simply failed to understand what made the show so appealing. No one watches this for the relationship and the family crap, we all just want more of the central mystery.

[quote]Sorry, I did a search before I posted but couldn’t see your thread.
The show has a horrible title (a fucking preposition!), it's pretty much impossible to find. I've seen people bitching about that on Reddit as well.

What's everyone's guess? Government experiment? If so, why are they ripping peoples guts out?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 5, 2023 5:53 PM |
OP how does the shows premise set up people not being able to leave. Is there some type of void, cars stop working at certain area. I read the shows description on Wikipedia but don’t want to read more as to avoid spoilers. I usually love shows like this. I like Harold as an actor and Lost was my shit. I often forget he’s the same actor in The Best Man franchise.

Donna is also clearly a dyke. Where are the gay men?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 5, 2023 7:17 PM |
Yeah the lesbian drama is going to end badly with one of them being a junkie. They'll have a fight and junkie will storm off into the night forcing everyone else to search for her and endangering their lives.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 5, 2023 7:20 PM |
I ff through all the drama, lesbian or otherwise. I'm just too old for that shit and I've seen every permutation of it by this point. There are telltale signs whether they're gonna talk about the mystery or not.
I recall Simon Kinberg defending himself when people complained that Invasion was a soap with an alien invasion in the background. He said he wanted to show that there's human drama to be found in every situation and so he decided to center that. And everyone was like "HELL NO, that's not why we tune into your $200 million show, we just want to see the fucking aliens already!"
This show is obviously made for peanuts, but the same point remains.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 5, 2023 7:29 PM |
Me and the husbear have been watching this thanks to hearing about it on DL (Thanks app and R3)
Just watched the most recent ep last night and realize I hate Ellis and “Fah-TEE-ma” (AND the stupid way they have to say her name!). Both of those characters are totally self precious especially Ellis. Has anyone else noticed he does absolutely nothing? Like, nothing. He breezes around the house in his little Jimi Hendrix/Lenny Kravitz shirts in the episodes where people are working around the house, gardening, setting up the radio tower, etc. etc.. Ms. Thing is doing nothing but walking around making dandelion necklaces or whatever the fuck he does. I think it was the last episode before this current one there was a brief scene where he picked up a box on the porch and put it in the back of a pick up truck and we both busted out laughing. That’s the only manual labor we’ve seen the guy do
I could never stand the actor who plays his dad on LOST. He literally runs around screaming all the time, he yells all of his lines and his acting is so over-the-top. I don’t know how he gets work. The Asian kid is cute but he’s become a major pain in the ass and of course, as everyone else has said, then you lesbian romance/drama is going to end up tanking whatever is left of this series. We had to wait an entire week just to see the aftermath of the killing the creepy, smiling guy to find out if he was going to burst into flames in the daylight or whatever. It’s such a slow burn.
I think it’s the family that are the most irritating characters though. I want to see a great white ripped the head off of that irritating child. Every time he starts babbling one of his stupid lines in that insipid, baby voice he does. That tiresome “cute“ up speak They’ve told him to do. It’s not cute or adorable. I wish that family were back in their over turned Winnebago. They bring absolutely nothing to the show. I find Jade somewhat interesting but he too tends to run around hysterically, screaming and yelling. So I guess all of you guys are right, the acting is so over-the-top bad that you can’t look away.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 5, 2023 8:07 PM |
Bad acting aside Jim, Ellis, and Jade are all hotties.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 5, 2023 8:11 PM |
R12 Sounds idiotic, much like "husbear"
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 5, 2023 8:11 PM |
r22 Cosign -- trying to trigger the delicate r24 with this one -- under everything you said.
Ellis is the obligatory hot guy dating the hottest chick around. Now that his mom's backstory has been resolved, he's useless and so the writers are trying to inject some life into him, but without much luck. The bearded guy whose friend got killed on the first day mistakes yelling for drama, as do most other characters. In addition to what you said about the lead, he also has oversized veneers, which give his voice an annoying muffled quality.
The precious upspeak on the overcoached kid actor is the worst, but that's kid actors for you. At least he maintains eye contact with his scene partners, so that's something.

Good episode this week.

Jade is loud and obnoxious. He reminds me of Billy Eichner- always fucking yelling.
He is good looking but annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 5, 2023 8:27 PM |
R8 I’m not sure. I have no guesses or predictions. I hope the writers have a planned storyline and it doesn’t go nowhere like Lost. That would be the most frustrating thing.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 5, 2023 8:28 PM |
Yeah, they spent like 1.5 episodes this season TALKING about Sarah. Everybody has to lose their mind and dive into a panic when they mention her lmao
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 5, 2023 8:29 PM |
My favourite moment was two weeks or so ago when the episode ended with the sheriff going "we should talk" to the Korean lady, and then it just fades to black. Worst episode ending ever.
As for the mystery, I think it's a magical place, but the military/government is observing it from the outside.

by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 5, 2023 9:21 PM |
Exactly R33 and 34 - but no one on this show seems to ask any questions. In this weeks episode the paramedic/Dr. chick went bat shit crazy when she cut open the monster to see what most people would figure they’d see. Dried up organs because that’s probably what monsters look like on the inside when they are assuming the shells of humans, so she has this tantrum that is completely out of character for her character. And she begins making an argument about how much it didn’t make sense. And the whole time I’m just thinking, “are these people really still delusional and not aware that all kinds of supernatural things are happening around them?! “ Of all the shit to have dialogue about, the innards of a monster is what blew her mind?! Why hasn’t ithe sheriff told people about the lighthouse he saw? Why wouldn’t everyone in town come up with an idea to trap one of the monsters? Build some sort of cage or some thing or at least try? That would be an interesting storyline. Why doesn’t someone think about sitting Victor down and insisting he tell them what the deal is with this town or what he knows? Most people who watch shows like this, don’t really want to see lovey-dovey nonsense and couple drama. And we certainly don’t want to see a “family“ story.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 5, 2023 9:31 PM |
One minute, the daughter of the irritating family is wanting to experiment with the lez-lez. But nothing more's been made of it and now I think she's coming onto the chubby black kid who seems to have either a psychological problem or is seeing things and may be the key to something. He's certainly one of the bravest characters, getting the worthless Ellis and Fah-TEEEEE-ma to the infirmary.
No but seriously, can't they please kill Ellis? Like, horribly? Then after that, maybe his dad? That would be great.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 6, 2023 3:24 PM |

When they first arrived and she had her shit fit and went to the hippie house, I thought Fatima was a bit too friendly too soon and was grooming her for some sort of polyamorous thing.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 6, 2023 3:31 PM |
That one random episode when Ellis got drunk and turned into this real bad boy who started fights. Oh wow, really bad writing. And yes I laughed at the total hissy fit when she realised the monster had dried up guts, really over the top.
I think they are in limbo.

Ellis is the worst. And he thinks he’s such hot shit with his little outfits and jewelry. R22 has it right. He wishes he were Lenny Kravitz, but he sucks.
I’d much rather have former deputy Kenny. He’s kind of cute.

The pain in the ass drone guy might be interesting. He’s a dick, but I did like how he wasn’t scared of the monsters after he went to live in the bus and accepted this weird place as reality. I do think he will die soon, but he might help Jim learn some things about this place, and the people/person on the radio.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 6, 2023 3:54 PM |
The dad in that obnoxious family is a hairy beast, yet he hasn't been shirtless once on the show, it's crazy.

by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 6, 2023 4:04 PM |
Damn!! Thanks for the hairy daddy pic r42! Shit. Looks nothing like the From character.
Speaking of From, the name is kind of tragic. They couldn’t think of anything else? It’s just kind of dumb and lackluster and it’s got to have some negative impact on whatever marketing or word of mouth around the show. It doesn’t even really mean anything in relation to the show or the storyline. So far there is nothing suggesting that the people are there based on where they’re from,
Has everyone forgotten about the crazy murderer girl living in the basement of the church? Also, why does the church look like it was built in the 1600s and the rest of the little town looks like late 1950s? Not nitpicking I just notice those little things.
For anybody here who saw Chapelwaite, Adrien Brody, vampire miniseries on MGM+, That series was apparently filmed on the same Canadian island, not far from the From set. That series made such good use of the local environment, showed it to be very Gothic and creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 6, 2023 4:14 PM |
Sarah has apparently gotten all her murderous urges out. I guess those voices are done with her.
She’s fine now! Sends her love!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | June 6, 2023 4:23 PM |
Show's name has been translated as "the ones from the outside / the outsiders" in my language because our "from" equivalent is just two letters long, it would be as if a series was named "In" or "At". Such silly name choice by the creators, needlessly kneecaps the marketing from the get-go.
[quote]Has everyone forgotten about the crazy murderer girl living in the basement of the church?
I have no idea what happened to her, she just disappeared after seemingly endless consternation over whether to put her in that punishment box or not.

Years ago there was a show similar to this. I think it was called Purgatory. It was set in the old west with the same format and on network TV. I don't think it lasted a season. I hope the writers have a good ending planned but sadly it seems like they wing too much writing as they go. I never saw Lost but I'm assuming the ending did not wrap it up?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 6, 2023 4:27 PM |
Lost was wrapped up neatly at the very end, it was a huge show and there would have been riots had the showrunners left it open-ended. Of course, whether the audiences liked that ending or not is another matter. It happened to work for me.
I think From's creator sensed the show was getting some traction and they decided to slow things down so as to stretch it out. Hence so many more talky filler scenes this season.

Has anybody figured out where all the damn food come from? They only just started talking about food supplies the last couple of episodes, but up until then the diner seemed to magically produce anything and everything, even pancakes for that annoying child. When they show was supposed to be the kitchen in the diner, you don’t really see any pots or pans or a grill or anything. It just looks like there’s a very narrow tiny space. And that poor Asian lady seems to be cooking for everybody. She has a load of people living in her house now, and she’s always cooking for them! - i’m sorry, somebody should throw at least a little shade onto that family for destroying their house. They were there like a couple of weeks and they destroyed the house that have been there forever. They also triggered drama with that psycho girl tried to kill the stupid kid then you had the whole radio tower fiasco, which no one seems interested in mentioning or trying to do again. That family of four have been a complete disaster and much worse for the community than the bus load of people that showed up. I want to be deep inside the drone guy. He’s a hot fuck.

They said early on livestock (and poultry) wanders into town from the woods all the time. Super convenient, right.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 6, 2023 8:21 PM |
Only on a tv show could a new family show up in an isolated, paranoid society and immediately be adopted as leaders of the community.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 6, 2023 8:30 PM |
I don’t think they’re leaders. Jim is trying to find a way out and some people who want out are helping. I’d help, too. Better to die trying than to be stuck there forever.
They were fine with food, the trees never lost their leaves, everything was mostly cool until Jim’s family and Jade showed up. The two cars at the same time has changed things. Only Victor knows how bad it’s going to get since he’s seen it before.
I like the show. It’s a little ridiculous and goofy, but it’s an easy watch.

I'm bored with it. Made it to the 4th episode. No more.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 6, 2023 9:43 PM |
I think they’ve kind of addressed the “everyone’s dead” theory. Not conclusively maybe, it it’s already been brought up (by the wife) and Jim sort of made an argument supposedly confirming they aren’t (dead). But who knows?

Does anyone know if there have been plans announced for a third season? The more television I watch, which isn't a lot, the more I prefer seeing one to three season series'. Max. I'm tired of following shows that take a decade for the story to play out.
I've all but completely given-up on YellowJackets because there's no way I'm spending 4-6 years watching a planned five-season show about a bunch of cannibal girls trying to survive in the forest and eating one another. It's already too dark and we all know that 3-4 seasons of a show these days equate to 4-6 years because of the obnoxious hiatuses shows tend to take now. I have no idea how they maintain viewership like that. (Speaking of which, we used to love watching 'THE GREAT' on Hulu. It just disappeared completely and we eventually stopped watching for it to come back. But I just saw somewhere that not only did it come back, but the last season is apparently over.?.? Not even sure who watched it.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 7, 2023 5:01 PM |
I'm slowly making my way through the third season of The Great and while it's still good, it's obviously exhausted its creative potential, so I'm fine with it coming to an end. Even the second season already wasn't quite on the same level as the truly outstanding first one.
Yellowjackets I adore and it has a super dedicated viewership, so that show will be just fine.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 7, 2023 5:09 PM |
It seems like many shows have extremely short seasons and long periods in between and they risk losing viewers with such long breaks. I've gotten so tired of waiting for the Gilded Age and have already forgotten the other seasons. WTF is taking so long?

It's so obvious that Jim and Randall have some real sexual chemistry. Jim was trying to hook up with Randall the whole episode. Jim does the old fly a kite move. Then Jim chooses to have RV night with Randall instead of being with his family. Jim is willing to risk everything for a night of passion. Randal was right. Jim is creepy playground dude but Randall likes it. Jim and Randall fucking in the woods is hot.

Some more yelling this episode. Ellis having a useless scene again. Take a shot every time the sheriff starts a sentence with "Look..." And did he seriously tell them to calm down when they were brainstorming theories regarding those moth thingies? That is literally the last thing you say during a brainstorming session. I did enjoy the cliffhanger.

It's nothing like Lost but it is definitely worth a look R70.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 12, 2023 4:34 AM |
It's like Lost in that they're stuck someplace seemingly magical, are constantly discovering new secrets about the place, have different factions with different views as to how to proceed, and the actors are nothing special. But the flashbacks are super rare, the writing is really basic, and it's made for peanuts. So it's a bit of a wash when it comes to the Lost comparison.
And obviously the lead actor here is the same guy who famously got done dirty on that show.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | June 12, 2023 4:45 AM |
If I understood the last ep, Victor’s mom went to the lighthouse (the same one Boyd found the guy chained up in, was he in a lighthouse?) to try and rescue the children. The children must be the two kids Jim’s wife keeps seeing.
Did they say what happened to Victor’s sister? Was the last time he saw her when she followed her mom out the door?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 12, 2023 2:25 PM |
Can't they just kill off Boyd, "LOOK! LOOK!!! NOW YOU LOOK!! LOOK!!! MY SONNNNN!!!!" AND Ellis?
Harold Parrineau wasn't "done wrong" on LOST. He wasn't allowed to be "THE STAR", and, he's just a bad actor who I suspect is cast primarily due to his looks in adding diversity to the shows he's in. The man clearly thinks he's Sidney Portier. But he seems to irritate audiences in whatever he's in. He and Bobby Cannavale should have their own show where they just SCREAM and foam at the mouth and swing their heads back in forth in rage. Can you imagine the what a camp fest that would be with those two, devouring the scenery and everyone on the set?
Ellis is just generally irritating in his uselessness and I'm sick of the love/romance dialogue between him and Fah-TEEEE-Ma. *eye roll *

Kill Fatima,Ellis, Donna and drug addicted lesbian
Keep Jim, Victor, Jade, and bring Smiley vampire back cause he's kinda cute
by Anonymous | reply 76 | June 13, 2023 12:58 AM |
R76, I kinda like Donna being there. She's the one blunt-talking, no-filter character, the one who doesn't buy all of Boyd's shit. She's also the only strong female character on the show.
Where she gets irritating to me is the hands-in-pocket thing. WHY has the actress got her hands in her pockets all the time? Like, all the time unless she's holding something. Her pants are uncomfortably tight, and the protruding gunt area has become uncomfortable to see and totally distracting. Can't they give the poor woman something slightly more comfortable to wear? I get that she's supposed to be this tough, sexually-ambiguous, tough-as-nails woman who doesn't give a shit. But at least give her some better-fitting pants. I don't think she would've been riding around in a car with her sister wearing such tight pants. And for God's sake, take her hands outta her pockets!! SHEESH!
Jim's wife, (I don't care enough about "the family" members to remember their individual names), .....she's obviously going to become close to Victor (or whatever his name is). She's likely going to become a pseudo-mother figure to him. I don't get why the people of this town wouldn't have already made him sit down and tell them everything. Nobody seems remotely interested in what he's experienced or what was there when he showed up or what he knows. WHY!!? What the hell else do they have to do all day?
Does anyone know what/who the bloody guy was who came running out of the house in the penultimate scene of this week's episode? That flew by so fast and was just random and out of the blue. Did I miss something? They showed some unknown guy running out of a house, bloody & screaming... Cut to the next and final scene where "Jim" just happens to stop by the overturned camper and finds Donna tied awkwardly to a tree, like some cartoon character, with just a rope around her chest..LOL! So silly looking. And the psycho guy poking his knife into a tree saying, "New plan!"..... HUH?!? WTF?!? And Donna would let this little cunt over-power her enough to shove her into the van? And by the way, WHERE the fuck are all these people who are always partying inside the "Colony House" when people are being shoved in vans, etc.? That house must have over a hundred people living there, yet everyone seems to have a charming, private little room in which to have 'emotionally revealing' dialogue.
The acting is so bad and the writing is so all over the place, but the premise is compelling.

Half-baked theory about Victor:
I wonder if Victor meant that this is LITTERALY his town. I thought a few episodes ago about some kind of real life child abductor who might have lived in Victor’s town. The guy in the photograph with Victor, who might’ve lived in the house he’s afraid to go into. He hid kids in cells in caves and maybe he tried to abduct Victor. But Victor had immense psychic powers. So strong that he morphed his home town into his own nightmarish game from his childhood, with a watchtower and boogeymen who come out at night to kill you. He even convinced his mom (who was a ballerina?) that the kids were locked in the tower, cause that was from his game. This is the weakest part of the theory overall IMO.
Anyway, maybe his psychic power also made sure that no one else would leave him, since his monsters killed the townspeople. It put up a one-way barrier and also somehow abducts people from different parts of the country? Lol I dunno.
Also Victor is dying and that’s why the nightmare is dying as well.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | June 14, 2023 2:43 AM |
Also maybe when his mother was “taking him home”, it was from that cellar to their home at colony house? And maybe Victor’s always had that same room? I dunno, that’s also pretty half-baked.
I just feel like he’s important.

I've been watching it as I like that type of mystery show. It's definitely a slow burner, though, and would be better off being binge watched.
With season 2, I feel they knew early on when writing it how they wanted the season to end - which is why they've padded out the intervening episodes with all the filler.
As others have said, the acting is mostly poor, but the storyline keeps bringing me back. The smiley monster was kind of iconic, so I wouldn't be surprised if he'll be reborn now his body's been burnt.
I'm thinking we'll see at least one of the cast turn into a monster at some point, but the show has dropped several big hints that the monsters are far down the pecking order, so I think we'll see some more scarier creatures that outrank the monsters, hence all the talk about things changing. I just can't see that the status quo can continue for a season 3 - they need to do something to upend things.

I agree with r77. Donna tied to the tree was so very "Penelope Pitstop".
by Anonymous | reply 88 | June 14, 2023 8:50 PM |
That last scene with Donna, a little half-assed FX makeup on her forehead looking like she's Bug's Bunny who's just been tied-up by Elmer Fud..... So awkward that is was actually kind of surreal.
It's a fun show but it wears thin after a little while. I'm not investing years into it and would love to see the story play out this season or next, at the most.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | June 14, 2023 9:04 PM |
Victor created the tow. He was traumatized by witnessing the murders of his mom and sister so he created the town as a safe space. People get pulled in because Victor is lonely. That would explain why the houses and monsters appear to be from the 60s/70s. That's when Victor's knowledge of the outside world ended.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | June 15, 2023 7:30 AM |
R90 - Thanks for rehashing EXACTLY what R79 / R80 hypothesized already.. Although, I'll give you credit for adding the bit about why the monsters are all dressed like people from the late 60s/early 70s due to that being when Victor's idea of what the world looked like stalled. That actually makes me want to adopt R79's theory because it seems highly plausible. Good job to you both. And now I feel like we all know how it's gonna play out. ...and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. ; -)

OP- He's the guy in the wheelchair from the HBO show OZ.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | June 15, 2023 2:39 PM |
To add on the theory, I believe the show is ripping off Seven's storyline from Stranger Things and the lighthouse is a research facility where supernaturally gifted children were / are experimented on. Victor was one of them, but escaped (he imagines it was his mother who helped him escape, but it might have been a nice nurse who helped him escape and the sister is just another one of the supernatural children we might see later on and is helping the guys from the lighthouse). Victor "Wandavisioned" the town as his safe space and the monsters are his bodyguards who do their best to protect Victor from any spies and intruders the people from the lighthouse send (but they missed one or two being revealed in later episodes?). The worse things that are coming are Victor's fellow inmates using their supernatural abilities to capture him and take him back to the lighthouse. The kid he sees may be either the real younger version of Victor or the actual real Victor who uses old Victor either as an avatar or as a decoy.

I will keep on watching just to see what new mystery the writers will cook-up. It's like they're throwing them on the wall and see what sticks. And then hope the viewers forget those that didn't. It's quite amusing.

They show also has the ability to regenerate itself using the ability of new people being able to show up at any time, which means the writers and producers can easily kill people off or have more mass murders from monsters while still having a stream of new characters....
(Did you hear that Harold Perrineau? People can be EASILY KILLED OFF and the show can EASILY REPLACE THEM? *wink* )

The official word at HBO is that they have so many shows lined up that Gilded Age has to wait in line for a free spot and time window for the new season to air.

The new black teen, Elgin, might be a sleeper agent who was sent to catch Victor without raising Victors immediate suspicion (but Victor did say that he didn't like the guy early in season two). Victor is at the very center of the town's mystery.

Viewers need to care to tune in. Most shows are more character driven than plot mystery driven. The intention to tell characters' backstory is for the viewers to care about them more. You kill too many characters viewers care about and the viewers stop to care about the show before the new characters have been established (and declared poor replacements of the original characters).

by Anonymous | reply 109 | June 16, 2023 1:02 AM |
Victor said Christopher was nice, he used to make people laugh but he changed. He could be Victor's dad or an abusive boyfriend who killed Victor's mom and sister. Victor saw it happen and was traumatized.

Stephen King has been talking it up on Twitter. That's how I found it.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | June 17, 2023 7:12 AM |
This paragraph isn’t a spoiler for the episode itself., but I started looking at the drawings flashing during the intro and a newspaper with the flaming skeleton in front mentions Abbeville, SC, which has a super weird civil war history per Wikipedia. The next scene bring a tree also makes me think the town may have had some dark history with racism, like a sundown town. Maybe the town became monsters because they were already monsters. If you look deeper into “Abbeville”, you find a unique type of object as well…very interesting.
Spoiler for Ep 9******************* Okay, Ep 9 had a good pace, IMO. Sarah’s nightmare theory meshes nicely with the above Sundown explanation above. It also makes the mother drowning the son in the tub make sense perhaps. Also the bus driver remembering the rhyme makes me think maybe they are all “From” this town, but they don’t realize it yet. I’m not sure if they are the townspeople reincarnated or maybe somehow descendants of those killed here, brought back to avenge their ancestors or something. Maybe Victor brought them here to help him defeat something.
I kinda thought the grandmother at colony house talking to Fatima was gonna transform into a demon, like the old lady from the fun film Legion with sexy Paul Bettany. It had this same nervous, stay inside energy.
Overall, I’m intrigued again 👍

That hysterical homo whose mom got butchered was out of control this episode. Who was that gorgeous black guy with the perfect hair whose shoulders he shook when he had his meltdown?
Ellis is now starting sentences with "Look..." just like his dad, that's just great. Deputy sheriff doing the yelling this episode, although Jade was mighty tempted to go there at times as well.
At the end of the episode, when everyone was standing around that black aspie and he mentioned "FAH-tima", I half expected her to interrupt his urgent message and say "It's Fah-TEEM-a, actually."

I am sorry if it's off topic, but am I the only one who would love to have a type of "From" adventure vacation where you are "stranded" at some place and some terrifying terror is threatening you and the other guests, and you have to work together to "survive"? Like, escape rooms but on a larger scale?

How much terror can you honestly feel when you know the whole thing is a fake paid experience, though? Doesn't that rather defeat the whole purpose? I think the better -- and cheaper -- version of that might be available when VR takes off. Sounds counterintuitive, but the immersion there might actually be superior to reality where the bored resort employees are just counting down the minutes until they clock out.

I didn’t expect Randall to get scared and bolt like he did. He should’ve at least shot one of the monsters. Turned out to be a wuss.
Did we ever learn why the guy had a dream about pregnant Fatima? I know he said he heard the nursery rhyme in his dream, but that came from the boy in white. I missed the part where he said anything about a baby.

Boyd saves Julie, Marielle and Randall from the cicadas by destroying the music box, despite Abby’s ghost trying to convince him to the contrary. Tabitha wanders through the lighthouse attempting to save the children and thus Julia, instead she wakes up in apparently a modern day hospital and is told she was found in the woods by hikers. End of Season 2 there.

Okay I checked out, turned it off during the last couple of minutes. The story has stopped advancing and we get 25 solid minutes each episode of either Ellis and Fatima’s or the lesbian couple doing their love and rehab thing. I didn’t tune in for family and lesbian romance issues. They’ve run out of where they’re going with this show and between the lesbian and family shit and the sheriff screaming at people every 2 minutes, I hit the wall tonight. I’m going over to Black Mirror.

I went back this morning before leaving and watched the last five minutes I turned off last night. I really do think I'm done with it. Some switch flipped and I'm just not interested.
I don't know why so many series' must incorporate a family or love story into the storyline. Maybe there's evidence that attracts more viewers, or female viewers or something? But the whole mystery of the show and the monsters has clearly become a close second to the dynamics of the "family" who's trying to stick together, and the lesbians working through their lesbian shit, including the ham-fisted actress attempting to play a detoxing addict. If it's not that, it's the long, boring monologue of the crazy chick who killed her brother, pouting and self-pitying herself until the guy who's father she murdered comes to her defense and coddles her over it. *vomit* If individual Human stories MUST take over the show, why not focus on the old lady who's quietly dying of cancer and gave-up her medication? The two lesbians having to kiss and cuddle every minute or two is also over the top. Clearly there's a straight guy in the writing room who's getting off on it. And my prediction now for those sticking with it: the new guy, the black kid who keeps going on and on about his dreams, which is already a show-killer in and of itself, is going to get worse.
And again this episode, people at "Colony House" going berzerk, worrying about when they'll be able to sleep, and FAHTEEMA taking charge and calming everyone down, while Ellis, the boyfriend just kind of stands around, being sure not to break a sweat on anything. (Seriously, has ANYBODY seen this guy do anything? Tending vegetables? Sweeping? Helping to board windows? He's the most self precious character I've seen on television).

by Anonymous | reply 147 | June 21, 2023 12:29 AM |

I'm enjoying it though. Not the best thing I've ever seen but it's different and I'm interested to see where it goes.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | June 21, 2023 7:50 AM |
I'm guessing, (and hoping) druggie lesbian will be killed off very, VERY soon.
But if not her, I'll take killing off Ellis as a consolation prize. If not him, killing the twee, baby-talking kid would likely satisfy me, and everybody else no doubt. After that, maybe killing off Jim/the dad, the daughter, the crazy brother-murdering chick and at least 60% of the "Colony House" inhabitants. Yeah, that would be great.

Sarah is every pretty young white girl in high school, and Western society, who's loved and trusted by default based solely on her being a pretty young white girl. The one who, even after murdering her husband/brother, the high school jock, finds herself in trouble, only to come out of it happily ever after by sobbing and crying and saying she's "really sorry you guys but..." that she had a really bad childhood and something not so good happened to her that one time that made her "act out". ......*bang bang* on the gavel... I also liked how when jade saw Tom the bartender he just asked him, “aren’t you dead?” And Tom says “yup” and jades like “okay. I’m not gonna question it.”
One thing I noticed about this show is character A will tell character B something and character B is always like “what?!” like character A is crazy and I don’t know why they don’t just accept it. Yes, it might sound crazy, but the whole place is crazy, why would what they’re telling you be so strange? Boyd is the worst at this. It seems every time someone says something to him his response is an unbelieving ‘what?’. Dude, just go with it.

Jim and Kenny are headed into the woods to scavenge for food. Jade better make his move.

Great season 3 opener, disturbing and gross. I laughed when they immediately decided to get rid of that Korean lady now that she's no longer useful food-wise. Kinda problematic, but she didn't really add much to the drama on account of the language barrier, let's be real.
The writers are obviously reading our bitching here because they replaced Boyd's annoying "Look..." with "Listen..." An improvement, though not by much. They did still sneak in a "Look at me" at one point.
Everyone's about to starve, but I'm supposed to care about that damn baby growing inside Fatima? I don't think so.
How can that guy be Victor's father when Victor is just as old as he is?
Were those Camden scenes really shot in Maine, or was it a Canadian copy? The town looked so gorgeous, I wish I could live there.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | September 23, 2024 5:57 AM |
Ellis and Fatima are useless. I hope they get eaten by the townsfolk first.
The actor Robert Joy is 20 years older than Scott McCord.
The Camden scenes where shot in New Brunswick.
What's Randall's deal? He started out as a douchebag, trying to take a goat for himself. Then he saved Sara and the Matthews kids.
Speaking of which yay for Victor saving Jade's hot ass! I'm sure Jim will be grateful.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | September 23, 2024 6:07 AM |
I forgot to ask, weren't they experimenting on the demons last season? And then actually took one down by injecting it with some substance they extracted from one of its "colleagues"? Isn't it a bit weird that wasn't shown in the recap at all?
[quote]The actor Robert Joy is 20 years older than Scott McCord.
Um, wow. I don't mean to be a bitch, but I'd say exactly the opposite was the case if I had to guess and had a gun to my head. I guess it's the angular facial features that make him a look a lot older than he is.
[quote]The Camden scenes where shot in New Brunswick.
Thanks, should have known by now that nothing is ever shot in Maine. It seemed too bustling and diverse for a town of 5k people as well. And those folk didn't look like tourists either.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | September 23, 2024 6:27 AM |
They killed the Smiley monster by transferring Boyd's blood worms into him.
I think that priest is part of it. He knew that Tabitha's dead child was a son and he got her to look inside the lunchbox and find Victor's address.

Easter Egg- The puzzle that Ethan is putting together shows the harbor at Camden, Maine.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | September 23, 2024 6:52 AM |
They still have animals for milk, butter, eggs, and cheese. They could scavenge in the forest for berries and mushrooms.

Jim gets a lot of hate on Reddit forums. Maybe it's the hair.

I thought there was something off about him as well and I didn't even catch the line about her son. Camden is a small town, I'm sure the priest knows all the various dirty little secrets.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | September 23, 2024 8:16 PM |
A woman and two children disappearing would have been big news in Camden. Maybe the priest recognized Victor's lunchbox.

by Anonymous | reply 202 | September 27, 2024 3:04 AM |
So Victor's mom brought her kids there on purpose.
The townsfolk received food in exchange for Tian Chen.
Kristi has the dykiest haircut of all time.
The monsters are such cunts. Playing "Celebrate" on the jukebox while Kenny mourns.
I don't think that's Thomas on the phone.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | September 29, 2024 7:03 AM |
Another shouting match this episode, the writers' go-to signal for DRAMA. I swear my headphones almost blew out at one point.
The initial part with Victor's dad was so frustrating to watch, I wanted to kick him in the teeth! Glad he came round eventually because I could not have watched that for the entire episode. His basement looked incredibly similar to the one in Star Trek: Discovery, also shot in Vancouver.
Fatima took a whole chunk of her hair into her mouth when she was wolfing down those rotten-looking beets(?). She pulled them out with her hand and did it again just as it cut to another scene. No one would plant a cabbage patch that close to the water, NO ONE. Mark me, there is something magical about those vegetables and Fatima will eventually give birth to something not of this world.
Is it me or is Ellis chunkier this season? Watch the scene again where he's walking away with Boyd after the funeral service and tell me I'm crazy.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | September 29, 2024 6:15 PM |
Theory- The monsters have to kill someone to make the crops grow.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | September 29, 2024 9:01 PM |
So the pregnant chick has a mutant Rosemary's Baby type thing growing in her? Eating only rotten vegetables from the "bad" soil.....
by Anonymous | reply 206 | September 30, 2024 4:12 AM |
When Fatima got back to Colony House it looked as if she couldn't open the door. So she's either becoming a monster or carrying one.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | September 30, 2024 5:04 AM |
Episode 3. It looks like Kristi gets caught in a bear trap. An ambulance arrives in town which some think will bring Tabitha and Henry back. The same ambulance was seen at the hospital in episode 2.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | October 1, 2024 2:01 AM |
Where do they get the seemingly endless bullets for guns, and if they've got it, why don't they use it to hunt for food? They're out in the country (where somehow cows, chicken, sheep, and goats roam free in the woods), but there are no deer, rabbit, or fish?
And where did they get the seeds for crops?
by Anonymous | reply 209 | October 1, 2024 3:09 AM |
Whatever is in charge provides food or not according to it's whims. Boyd found livestock roaming in the forest. For 40 years Victor had an endless supply of canned peaches. I don't think they needed seeds for crops, it just grew. Like the cabbages and potatoes Jim found by the lake.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | October 1, 2024 3:16 AM |
Isn't Jim infected too by that dude chained up?
by Anonymous | reply 211 | October 1, 2024 6:42 PM |
Jim doesn't know anything about the chained up guy. He hasn't had any supernatural experiences other than the voice on the radio and the phone call in episode 2.

Why did the brunette EMT chick get so much more butch looking? She looked a lot better before the junkie dyke gf showed up.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | October 3, 2024 3:12 PM |
R216 I think the dyke cut is cute! The butch look suits her much better. Is she a lesbian in real life?
by Anonymous | reply 217 | October 3, 2024 4:16 PM |
I thought the EMT chick was another character, I didn't even recognise her at first. Ellis obviously isn't the only one who chunked out in between seasons...
by Anonymous | reply 218 | October 3, 2024 4:23 PM |
There are three lesbians and a gay man in Fromville.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | October 3, 2024 5:09 PM |
Who's the gay one? 👀
by Anonymous | reply 220 | October 3, 2024 5:13 PM |
Jade obviously.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | October 3, 2024 5:13 PM |
Oh yeah, right. That's what not giving the character any love interests does, you eventually just forget.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | October 3, 2024 5:16 PM |
It is slim pickings. His only options are Kenny, Jim, and Randall.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | October 3, 2024 5:17 PM |
Maybe Ellis.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | October 3, 2024 5:18 PM |
Maybe also Tabitha's and Jim's weird kid, when he grows up.
by Anonymous | reply 225 | October 3, 2024 5:21 PM |
Jade arrived with his partner Toby. The voices told Sara to kill him.
by Anonymous | reply 226 | October 3, 2024 5:26 PM |
Aren't the free-lovin' Ellis and Fatima bisexual?
Also, that guy who accidentally stabbed Ellis gives off eldergay vibes.
Jade is absolutely gay even though it hasn't been explicitly stated yet. He's shown zero interest in any woman in Fromville and I got the feeling Toby was more than his business partner.
by Anonymous | reply 227 | October 3, 2024 9:51 PM |
I'm quite enjoying season 3. I've got used to it being silly so that doesn't put me off anymore.

by Anonymous | reply 233 | October 3, 2024 11:42 PM |
Ethan should go. Kids rarely add anything to the story. They just walk into a room in their pajamas while the parents are arguing and say “mommy...” and look downcast. So trite.
by Anonymous | reply 234 | October 4, 2024 12:37 AM |
Why is Jim catching shit on Reddit?
by Anonymous | reply 235 | October 4, 2024 12:38 AM |
Because his tower flopped and he left his kids to look for Tabitha. They were with Tian Chen, if they're stupid enough to open the door for a monster they deserve to be eaten.
by Anonymous | reply 236 | October 4, 2024 1:11 AM |
Interesting theory on Reddit-Henry was a pedo….Monsters that look human and only come out at night. They change when attacking. They look like people you trust. Nurse, cop, cowboy, milkman, etc. Victor has never mentioned that he has a father. Maybe the 7 children were victims of Henry.
by Anonymous | reply 237 | October 4, 2024 5:43 AM |
R237 Those kids were dressed in what looked like 19th century clothing though...and the monsters are dressed in 50s-early 60s clothing. Victor's family didn't get to Fromville til 1978.
I seriously doubt this story is going to be about pedophilia. It's all gonna lead back to early North American colonialist atrocities, starting from the early 1500s.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | October 4, 2024 6:02 AM |
Why didn't Henry ask about his wife and daughter?
by Anonymous | reply 239 | October 4, 2024 6:41 AM |
R239 Huh? Did you not watch the same episode I did? With Tabitha and Henry in the house together? They talked at GREAT length about Miranda, Victor, and Eloise.
by Anonymous | reply 240 | October 4, 2024 7:42 AM |
R239 He only talked about Victor more at first because Victor was the only member of his family Tabitha had ever met and had any information on. And Tabitha was carrying his lunchbox when she arrived at his house.
As an aside, my favorite theory is that Tabitha is actually grown-up Eloise and just can't remember it yet. Her memory of Fromland was erased when she escaped through the bottle tree that her mother died in front of in 1978 and she was later adopted, met Jim, had the kids, and then was brought back to Fromland to complete the cycle. It's why Victor has such a special connection to the Matthews family and why he is especially tender with her.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | October 4, 2024 7:49 AM |
Henry never asked if Miranda and Eloise were with Victor.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | October 4, 2024 7:49 AM |
The timeline doesn't match because Tabitha is 20 years younger than Victor.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | October 4, 2024 7:51 AM |
Tabitha told Henry that no one could leave the town. Therefore it would be logical to assume that Miranda and Eloise were also trapped there. Unless Henry already knows what happened to them.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | October 4, 2024 7:56 AM |
R243 Check out the full 'Tabitha = Eloise' theory on reddit. It's wild but brilliant. In fact all of this guy's FROM theories and predictions are. I've fallen into a deep rabbit hole of them in the least few days.
by Anonymous | reply 245 | October 4, 2024 8:02 AM |
I hate Julie and Ethan.
by Anonymous | reply 248 | October 6, 2024 6:33 AM |
A pregnant woman getting into tarot is always a good sign. I've never seen a thicker tarot deck, how do you even shuffle those?! Fatima looked pretty iconic eating those rotten veggies from the garbage heap, let's be real.
I love how they'd been driving for ages when Tabitha suddenly goes "this isn't Camden, Maine." As opposed to Camden, London? It's already been established we're still in the US, there's no need for the state qualifier anymore. And yeah, no shit, it's a town of only 5k, *obviously* you left its limits some time ago if that other tree really is located 40 miles from his house.
"Look" count: 4. We even got the rare "Look" followed immediately by "Look at me". Ano not by Boyd either.
Hot EMT is played by Haligonian actor Calem MacDonald, hopefully he'll be a regular now and maybe even Jade's love interest? Obligatory "would lick his shitter."
by Anonymous | reply 249 | October 6, 2024 2:07 PM |
Tabitha was freaking out because she thought she was still in Fromville. Joni Mitchell's "Blue " was playing on the radio which is Tabitha and Jim's song. It also played on a jukebox in Fromville. Henry said that was Miranda's favorite song. Then she found Jim's bracelet. It was explained in another episode that Tabitha made a bracelet for Jim which he lost the night Julie was born. She found it in the storeroom behind the diner. Henry said Miranda made the bracelet for him. This show keeps getting weirder.
by Anonymous | reply 250 | October 6, 2024 2:29 PM |
Next week on From-
"Look!"
"Look at me!"
"Listen!"
"No, you listen!"
"I gotta go!"
by Anonymous | reply 251 | October 7, 2024 3:43 AM |
100% when Tabitha and Henry get to Fromville, they will be in the past with a different group. This will explain how her bracelet gets to Fromville for her to find in present time.
In the description for episode 5 it says "Tabitha adjusts to her new surroundings". To me that confirms she will not be going to the Fromville she remembers.
by Anonymous | reply 252 | October 7, 2024 4:21 AM |
But previews for episode 4 show Boyd in the ambulance. It can't be the ambulance parked outside the school because they used the wiring to build the radio.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | October 7, 2024 4:25 AM |
Maybe the bracelet is like the watch in Somewhere in Time. It travels on an endless loop. Miranda made the bracelet for Henry, Tabitha made it for Jim, they found it at the diner, then in the glove box. In flashbacks Miranda is wearing it in Fromville. Now it's coming back.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | October 7, 2024 4:30 AM |
Jim=Henry
Tabitha =Miranda
Julie=Eloise
Jade=Christopher
Ethan =Victor
They all have parallels in the 1978 timeline.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | October 7, 2024 4:37 AM |
R255 Yes, that would connect to my second favorite theory, which is that all the current characters are the same souls that were present in Fromville's origin story reincarnated many times over, cursed to recreate the cycle over and over again until the game is won.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | October 7, 2024 5:03 AM |
A lot of people on reddit have been referring to the guy in Jade's most recent visions as a "pilgrim" or early colonialist, but he has a railroad spike through his eye, which tells me it's far more likely he's from the 19th century, which would make sense, since that's where most of the characters from his visions come from.
I think this will also tie in the railroad we were shown over and over during the 1st episode.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | October 7, 2024 5:12 AM |
Jade also saw a man crushed by a boulder. Maybe these are earlier incarnations of Jade.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | October 7, 2024 5:18 AM |
I take back my prediction that Tabitha will time-travel back to a different time period in Fromville.
Just read an AMA with a reviewer who got an early viewing of the first 4 episodes of season 3 (with the exception of any huge spoilers), and he said that Tabitha ends up telling Jim about the Faraway Tree. So that would mean next week's episode will have to involve her and Jim reuniting.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | October 7, 2024 8:02 AM |
Interesting episode. I jumped when the bird smashed through the window and again when the monster grabbed Jade. Even though we're not getting any secrets, the show feels much quicker paced than previously and is grabbing my attention much better than before. I'm glad I stuck with it now.
I can understand why Tabitha freaked out about not truly being back in the 'real world'. It was like she was vocalising the viewers' thoughts when she was basically criticising all the coincidences. I wonder if that guy is really Victor's father. In some ways it'd be better if he wasn't because his quick acceptance of the whole thing doesn't ring true.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | October 7, 2024 9:58 AM |
Yeah, I'm suspicious of Henry. I don't think his reunion with Victor will be happy.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | October 7, 2024 1:30 PM |
Ethan will be disappointed that he doesn't get to see Mommy's rotten corpse. Creepy little bastard.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | October 7, 2024 1:34 PM |
You know the poor slob driving the ambulance is going to get killed.
One thing that bothers me about any horror type show/movie is people just do really stupid shit and never really seem to learn. Let's freak out and run off into the woods near dark. Let's let the kids go out close to dark. Let's answer the door after dark, etc. It's about as clichéd as entering and walking around your house in the dark. That show Grotequerie is so dimly lit it's ridiculous. It seems everyone lives and works in near dark conditions. Even the hospital is dark. Every time I've been in one it's so fucking bright I've never slept.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | October 7, 2024 3:28 PM |
"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Camden, Maine anymore."
r263 Hospital lighting conditions do vary greatly. Hospital rooms are mostly dark at night so patients can sleep. Radiology floors and the like are usually dark as well, with no patients and no employees working there overnight. As for the corridors, it's really up to the night nurse's preferences – the whole oncology ICU I spent some time in after my cancer surgery was in complete darkness at night. Once, the young nurses – and they're usually always super young in the ICUs because you have to move around constantly – were all having an early Christmas party in the nurses' quarters and they were ignoring the yells of the crazy woman next to me all night. I actually thought to myself, "this would be a perfect setting for a Ryan Murphy anthology series", lol.
I did laugh when they put Fatima into that huge luxe hospital room all on her own. That's not a thing in an urgent care center. Not even in Camden, Maine.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | October 7, 2024 4:55 PM |

Henry got aggressive with Tabitha when she tried to get out of his car.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | October 8, 2024 2:41 AM |
R268 Well yeah, because as far as he could tell, she seemed to be having a nervous breakdown and was threatening to run out of the car less than a mile from where she demanded he take her after showing up in his life claiming to know the whereabouts of his son who's been missing for 40 years. Wouldn't you be like, "what the fuck, lady, get your shit together"?
by Anonymous | reply 269 | October 8, 2024 6:38 AM |
R263 Another cliché that surfaced in this week's episode was when Tabitha cut herself on broken glass.
Has any character ever picked up broken glass without cutting themselves (complete with a sharp intake of breath) in any TV/film? Usually done when the character has broken the glass while feeling stressed out and cutting themselves just adds to the distressed state.

by Anonymous | reply 281 | October 13, 2024 8:02 AM |
That was quite an engrossing episode, I barely FF'd through any of the boring dialogue. Tabitha blasting out F-bombs was my favourite part. I guess they *were* in Camden, Maine after all.
Wish they kept the hot EMT twink around for Jade to play with, totally made the wrong call there.
I'm sorry, but the way Nicky got shot was quite comical. At least Fatima will get some nourishment from her, lol.
I find it pretty funny the way extras in Donna's place keep changing from episode to episode, for three seasons now. Literal filler characters. I suppose it was much the same on Lost, though they were further apart on that beach and so you didn't notice them that closely.
RIP Randall's beautiful, sexy face.

by Anonymous | reply 287 | October 14, 2024 10:15 AM |
R287 So he is Victor's dad then. I wondered if he might turn out not to be, given all the twists and turns in this show.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | October 14, 2024 10:58 AM |
Henry said his family was gone when he came home from work. We know they brought suitcases so it looks like they were running away from Henry. Maybe Victor never mentioned his dad because he was abusive.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | October 14, 2024 11:08 AM |
They're all fucked. Even if they escape they can be brought back at any time. Whatever entity controls Fromville has total power over it's citizens. It can read their thoughts, it knows what they're planning, and if it wants it can turn them into monsters like Fatima.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | October 14, 2024 8:12 PM |
[quote] It seems everyone lives and works in near dark conditions.
I think I was watching CSI a few years back with Grissom and it felt every time they walked into a crime scene they never turned on a light. They’d walk around with their flashlights inspecting. Did all their crime scenes have no electricity?
I completely agree with poster above about characters ALWAYS cutting their hands on broken glass. Ridiculous.

We got a decent number of Looks and Listens this episode. Lots of Heys as well.
That MGM logo at the start trips me up every time, I'm not used to seeing that with TV shows.
I love how they swapped the Chinese lady who didn't speak a word of English with a chattier black lady who is also a possible love interest for Boyd. I see you, showrunners.
Still mourning the loss of the cute EMT. Up-and-coming Canadian talent, plucked in his prime, what a shame.

What did the townsfolk expect Tabitha to do? Stroll into a police station and say I came here through a magic tree? There are people trapped in a town where flesh eating monsters come out at night. We have to look for the fallen tree. I'm sure the cops will put out an APB. 🙄 Also Fatima is acting pretty self righteous for someone who dined on a corpse.

Fatima is just feeling ansty, she wants a proper obstetrician to have a look at that demon baby of hers.

R295 I couldn't agree more. Ever since Sarah's brother was so cruelly snatched from us, the show has been lacking a hot guy (and he wasn't even that hot, but that makes my point for me). I mean, Ellis is decent but he's so annoying that eclipses his physical attractiveness.
So when I saw that EMT I was thinking things were finally on the up. Those monsters have a LOT to answer for.
And yeah, that diner scene was so infuriating. I know it was meant to be, but I just wanted to bitch slap them. "Well, they MIGHT have believed you!" Oh shut up, Fatima. Go and eat some rotten vegetables and rotting flesh - that's far more preferable to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | October 21, 2024 10:54 AM |
Jim and Jade are plenty hot!

At the meeting Boyd said they have concrete proof that it's possible to escape. Dale ends up in concrete. Whatever controls Fromville has a twisted sense of humor.

It has many variations. The actress is Iranian, so she has the westernised form of the Iranian "Fatemeh."
Honestly, the most important thing is that everyone sticks to one pronunciation, even if it's the wrong one. Nothing is more annoying to me than actors on the same show saying both Day-ta and Dah-ta.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | October 25, 2024 3:37 PM |
-Fatima isn't pregnant
-Jade needs a man
-Donna and Dale probably had a drunken one night stand🤢
-Tabitha and Jim. Imagine being stuck in a loveless relationship and there is literally no where you can go.
-I still hate Julie.
-Randall wants in on that Kristi and Marielle action.

Donna is a lesbian but apparently they had sex parties in Colony House so anything goes. Clueless fraus are shipping Tabitha and Jade. I'd rather see a Jade/Jim hook up.

More close-quarter yelling this episode.
I giggled when Tillie said "Fatimer". Kinda glad she's gone, she was an awkward character. Cringed like hell when Fatima's IV snapped out as she walked away. Ouch!

r316 Yeah, the acting in this is rough, rough, rough. But I've grown accustomed to it by now, I barely notice it anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 318 | November 5, 2024 3:07 PM |
Yeah the acting is bad. To be honest I'm amazed it got three seasons considering the aforementioned terrible acting, the fact we never really get any answers, and that no one seems to watch it. At least I never hear anyone talking about it, nor do I see promo anywhere.
So my concern is that it'll get cancelled at the end of this season and then we'll never find out the truth!
Despite all that, I do enjoy watching it. Boyd and Donna carry the show. I watch it on a Sunday morning here with a coffee and it's a guilty pleasure that I enjoy. So I hope it lasts at least another season!
by Anonymous | reply 319 | November 5, 2024 3:23 PM |
It has two separate subreddits and they both generate a lot of discussion, I think most people are hate-watching it at this point.
And yeah, it's a total guilty pleasure for me as well. In that respect, I'll be sad when it's over.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | November 5, 2024 3:26 PM |
Yeah I've seen the subreddits, but I mostly avoid Reddit as I find people on there can be too weird and you get downvoted for the weirdest shit.
At least here you need to be really horrible to get an FF, rather than just post a contrary opinion about a silly TV show.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | November 5, 2024 3:30 PM |
Oh yeah, for sure. I could never lust after the cute EMT on Reddit like I do here, I'd be ganghanded immediately for being "problematic".

This reminded me of Lost (no surprise - same creators). One mystery after another without addressing them later. They're hoping viewers will just forget about them. I still watch but mostly ff'ing until something interesting/funny comes up. And yeah, I found some scenes/dialogue are just unintentionally funny more than scary.

We get four Looks in a row this episode, to really drive home the point that shit is getting real now.

by Anonymous | reply 329 | November 11, 2024 3:26 PM |
Donna is seemingly rushing somewhere at all times and is always out of breath, but is still somehow overweight. That's the real mystery of that place.

I'm sure I am forgetting but how do they have electricity, alcohol running water etc?
by Anonymous | reply 333 | November 14, 2024 12:34 AM |
The alcohol is from fermented fruit and vegetables. Whatever controls the town provides water and electricity. It was established that there are no wires so electricity shouldn't work but it does.

by Anonymous | reply 336 | November 14, 2024 5:33 AM |
Those would be my first two questions after arriving there and being told what that place is. "Okay, where do we shit and how do we wipe?"
There's no way that small town (hamlet?) with a handful of houses has a centralised sewage system. I mean, where would that even flow, it's not like there's a treatment facility or a river nearby. I guess the monsters kindly clean their septic tanks and deliver a fresh batch of TP rolls every night after they're done scaring them.
by Anonymous | reply 337 | November 14, 2024 11:39 AM |
It was nice to see Smiley again. Even if he was killing Victor's mom. Who was reincarnated as Tabitha.
I thought Elgin was going to shove Ellis in the lake and drown him. He's gone full psycho.
Donna misses the freak offs at Colony House.
I thought Jim was going to accuse Randall of molesting Julie but he just wanted to know what happened at the ruins.
Jade needs a haircut.
by Anonymous | reply 338 | November 17, 2024 8:03 AM |
Not only is Smiley back, he runs now, which is the first time we saw that happen. Guess he had to get to her before she went through the tree. But I'm confused, I thought it's been established that she in fact succeeded in returning to the real world?
Crazy amount of Heys and Looks and Listens in this episode. I bet it'll come out years from now that none of those were actually in the script – because it's patently hacky writing – but that Harold Perrineau improvised all of those interjections, and that it was an inside joke among the writes and the crew.
The boy in white has a crazy deep voice and a distracting bulge now. They tried giving it an in-universe explanation (emphasis on tried).
Elgin is out of control, he's giving us aspies a bad rep.
by Anonymous | reply 339 | November 18, 2024 1:57 PM |
They never said Miranda escaped. Victor found her body by the tree. The Tabitha is Eloise theory is ridiculous. The actress is Colombian and 20 years younger than Victor.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | November 18, 2024 3:46 PM |
The monsters can run they just enjoy stalking their prey.
by Anonymous | reply 341 | November 18, 2024 3:49 PM |
So when did she paint all those prophetic paintings in the Camden, Maine basement we saw earlier this season? Before she went to Fromville?
by Anonymous | reply 342 | November 18, 2024 3:50 PM |
Miranda had visions of Fromville before she arrived. It started after she and Henry dropped acid. She became obsessed with these visions and one day Henry came home to discover she and the kids were gone. We've seen in that last couple of episodes that Tabitha also had visions of Fromville but didn't realize it. Tabitha and Miranda seem to be living parallel lives.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | November 18, 2024 3:59 PM |

It would have been so much better if this had been established earlier and not only a couple of episodes ago. Makes it seem like they're making it up as they go along.

Eion Bailey who plays Jim didn't attend the season 3 premiere and hasn't mentioned this season on his Instagram. I hope they don't kill off Jim.
by Anonymous | reply 346 | November 19, 2024 2:19 AM |
I always assumed the monsters don't normally bother running because they like stalking and scaring their prey. I think sometimes they don't want to kill them - because they see terrorising the villagers is more 'fun'. I think Smiley only ran to Miranda because he wanted to stop her reaching the tree and transporting - hence there was a need for speed at that time.
The last episode was a bit dull. It's pretty clear they storyboarded this season and knew how they wanted to start and end it, but they could have done so in 5 or 6 episodes, hence padding the midseason with filler episodes. I expect we'll get some big revelation in the season finale like we did last year when Tabitha went back to the 'real world'. It acts as a hook to bring you back next year and also gives them time to decide how they're going to explain the revelation whatever it might be.
The questions about where do they shit and how do they wipe made me laugh. We saw Fatima throwing up in the toilet while some annoying character was bashing the door down because she wanted a piss, so it's clear they use the toilet normally - though maybe they're limited. After all, a building the size of Colony House would surely have many toilets, but it was pretty clear only one worked if the girl who needed a piss kept banging on the door when Fatima overstayed her welcome in there. Maybe they have a bidet in there, too.
by Anonymous | reply 347 | November 19, 2024 10:55 AM |
A toilet alone won't do you much good if it isn't actually connected to anything. Go have a dump in one of those display toilets in the toilet store and see what happens, lol.
So Boyd has a "get me off this show" cancer? Maybe that's why they brought the new cop in, to be his replacement? Or maybe she's just there to make him more tolerable by being an absolute bitch in comparison.
r346 Yeah, one of the OGs will have to bite it soon. Sacrificing background characters who were just introduced a couple of episodes ago – the pool guy, Fatima's victim – or fakeouts like Randall are starting to wear thin. (The Chinese lady in the premiere barely counts, I don't even think she was union). Just kill one of Tabitha's kids, they won't be missed.
by Anonymous | reply 348 | November 20, 2024 6:39 AM |
Dale the pool guy was a regular from the beginning.

by Anonymous | reply 353 | November 20, 2024 7:15 AM |
I'm guessing the finale will have Fatima dying while giving birth to a monster. She served her purpose. So now cutie Ellis would be free to explore his bi side next season.
by Anonymous | reply 354 | November 20, 2024 1:07 PM |
R348 Yeah but I think we're meant to assume the toilets are connected to the water system in the same way everyone's connected to the electric system. After all, we've been shown them running taps often enough, so it's clear the writers want viewers to know access to clean water and plumbing is readily available.
I'm not sure if the infrastructure will ever be explained, or if it's just there to make producing the show 'easier'. After all, if we were to imagine the show without electricity or running water, they'd have to constantly make everyone look dirty and night scenes would be next to impossible if we also assume they didn't have access to things like candles, etc.
R354 With who, though? Unless we get another bus load of new arrrivals in the season finale and there's a gay or bi hottie onboard. I'm surprised there hasn't been at least one gay male couple in the show. I guess Kristi and Marielle were deemed to be enough representation of us homos, though.

Well, that was a shocking finale – I did not see the reincarnation twist coming, at all. We have to wait two years for the next season now, which is crazy to me. This is so low budge, they should be knocking these out every year, like Slow Horses.
Jade just casually playing the villain like it's nothing. Speaking of, I swear I hear "La donna è mobile" every time Donna jogs into the scene, she's so omnipresent. The female cop is on my last fucking nerve, as is Elgin. Tabitha was testing me as well, refusing to tell Jim what just happened with the kids.
Glad Fatima survived. Saw her one amalgam filling when she screamed, very relatable. I hate that they're being phased out in the EU starting next year, I love them so much.
We see Randall working out for his next Hollywood role. He looked amazing in that tight white tee. Shirtless scene next season, maybe?
That poster totally called it regarding Eion Bailey not promoting the show because Jim is out now. I wonder if there's some bad blood there or if he's just ready to move on to other stuff.
r361 Yeah, he's had four roles so far and they've all been of the creepy kind. He knows his looks are niche and is taking the roles that are available to him.
by Anonymous | reply 362 | November 24, 2024 7:48 PM |
Omg, look at Julie's hair in that final scene where Jim gets got – it's a different hairstyle than in the diner scene with Thomas minutes before. It's either a continuity error, she jumped in from another timeline, OR this got filmed in pick-ups because the actor was abruptly written out. 👀
by Anonymous | reply 363 | November 24, 2024 8:20 PM |
DL fave Aaron Tveit is in that new show they forced into the runtime of this finale. Which people are pissed about, by the way.
Anyway, he looks like this now.

by Anonymous | reply 365 | November 24, 2024 8:36 PM |
R363 It definitely wasn't a continuity error, that was a wig. It's pretty clear she's been time hopping for a while by that point and was trying to stop her father being killed. But, as Ethan said in the finale, you can't change a story once it's been written.
I'm assuming the guy in the yellow jacket is the main antagonist of the show. Now they're figuring more out, it seems he's intervening directly rather than using proxies to do it for him.

I meant to write "violin" here, lol. Glad to hear he plays it in real life, r369, I've always found it oddly satisfying when they incorporate actors' real-life talents into shows.
r370 Yeah, it really turned into a thankless role towards the end. Someone big had to bite it and honestly, he was the obvious choice.

Reddit fraus think Jade and Tabitha are going to hook up now. 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 372 | November 25, 2024 3:08 PM |
R372 That honestly wouldn't surprise me. I don't think Jade has ever been confirmed as gay even though many have assumed it (particularly as he was there with a 'partner' who might have been more than a business partner.
And even if the writers originally intended to make Jade gay, they could easily change their minds. I don't think they had the whole show mapped out from the start anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | November 25, 2024 3:15 PM |
I just can't see them doing that, he's their stock sexless gay character, just like Donna is on the lesbian side; they're not gonna fuck around with that checkbox. On the other hand, you never know, what with the pendulum swinging the other way now, politically and culturally...
by Anonymous | reply 374 | November 25, 2024 3:24 PM |
Actually they did. They have a five year plan and Harold Perrineau was told the whole story before he agreed to sign on. He didn't want another Lost debacle.

Harold was told Tabitha and Jade would hook up towards the end?

That poster was referring to R373.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | November 25, 2024 3:41 PM |
My point still stands. Harold was probably told the overall arc of the story – mainly the central conceit and where his character in particular would end up – and not all the intricacies of the story and all the individual storylines. Basically, he just wanted to know that the show wouldn't have a cheesy ending like "the aliens did it" or "they were in purgatory the whole time."
by Anonymous | reply 378 | November 25, 2024 3:48 PM |
R375 Yeah but I took that to mean he was given an overview of it at a relatively high level. The details are ironed out later on.
It's not like they wrote 50 scripts upfront (assuming 5 seasons with 10 episodes in each).

Btw, the finale has almost 7k combined comments on the two separate subreddits, people are watching the shit out of this show. It's crazy to me that the execs allow two years in between seasons.

by Anonymous | reply 388 | November 28, 2024 5:30 PM |
I love trying to guess which commenters on the reddit are DL crossovers. At one point a few fraus there were shipping Donna and Henry and someone commented something like, "Honey, Donna's a nutloaf-baking, Home Depot store-card carrying elderlez if I've ever seen one", and I whispered to myself, "one of us".
by Anonymous | reply 389 | December 13, 2024 5:32 AM |
Regarding Jim's hair, I don't think it looks that bad but -- as with so many long-haired men -- I think his looks would be improved massively if he had a smart short haircut.
As the post in R387 shows, he'll definitely be in it again given Julie can time travel when she goes to the ruins. So she'll almost certainly visit her father again in the past - and not just to try and prevent his death.
But that said, I expect those scenes won't be that long, so they'll likely get him back to film his scenes back to back, which isn't quite the same as being part of the main cast. I think that might be why he didn't attend the premiere with the rest of the cast.
