It makes sense. If you look at mating as purely transactional, someone from a less economically advantages county who wants to come to the US is going to be willing to compromise more on their partner’s other characteristics.

It’s not necessarily about the cultural attributes of mail order brides, although that can certainly be a factor. I may be mistaken about this, but my impression is that women from Eastern Europe are not necessarily skilled in the domestic arts or inclined to be submissive, but they recognize the potential economic advantages of a US spouse.

There was some story a year or two ago about an older gay guy from the UK who did this and then there was some issue after he died when his sugar baby inherited his estate.

In recent years, I have known a few men in their thirties/forties here in Massachusetts who have become conservative/religious in order to land traditional, obedient, supportive wives, because modern liberalism (aka woke culture/fourth-wave feminism) teaches women that men are evil and expendable. A lot of liberal women treat their men like shit. So, some of these men have even moved to the South or Midwest in search of a wife.

I don’t think you can compare to to slavery. Potentially exploitative, yes. But it’s a choice. And once they are in the US, they can divorce after a few years. Life’s not fair, people start out with different advantages. You can be born smart, good-looking, in a country with a high standard of living.

When I was a kid we pretty much only ate family dinners together on Thanksgiving and Christmas and on those occasions my depression-era childhood and WWII infantry vet father would say something along the lines of “thank you, God, for the greatest blessing we have all received - to be born in this country.” It’s not as dramatically true now, but he had a point.

This is very old. You see so many old white army veterans or unattractive, nerdy white guys with Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean or Filipino wives. R45 East Asian cultures are very ethnically homogeneous and heavily push a monoculture. Basically they don't see their countries by nationality but an ethnicity. White American men who would choose to live in those countries would basically lose any social privileges and advantages they have in The US. They would not get the good jobs, would face housing and police discrimination and would not even have ability to become citizens in those countries. Asians actually have little patience for Westerners who don't assimilate, even if they assimilate they will always be a foreigner and plus they will openly mock them assuming they don't speak their language. The US has problems but it's not as xenophobic or racist as Asia and historically is multicultural (despite what MAGATs want and claim). So it's easier for an Asian foreigner to become an American than an American foreigner to become an Asian citizen.

There's many stories of white people in Asian countries talking about how living there made them understand what being a minority felt like. Many people would avoid them on the streets or just talk poorly of them even in their face especially older and rural people. When they spoke pretty fluently in whatever Asian language, they would condescending remarks like "ohh you can speak [our language]?" Police would harass them and follow them around. Trying to find a place to rent would be hard and many landlords would upcharge. Getting a job was regulated to being an English teacher. Sometimes companies would hire a token foreigner and they'd give them a different set of responsibilities and exclude them from socializing afterwork. White women would get sexually harassed and assumed to be promiscuous. Mixed race children also face discrimination especially if that Asian side didn't approve of that union. They'll casually use terms that translate to "half caste" or "half breed." Many mixed kids are forced to straighten and dye their hair black in schools as to not stand out. So that's one reason white male sexpats don't want to stay there. They'd also have to accept that Asian men hold a far higher status and power over them while in The US it would be reverse.

What's even funnier though is the inverse of this--Eastern men sent to the West for education who to the chagrin of their parents fall for bossy, independent, career-oriented alpha white women rather than a local girl from back home. R51/R52 after I graduated College about 10 years ago, I considered moving to Japan to work and live semi-permanently, as I had learned some elementary language via electives, had at the time a strong affinity for classic Japanese literature & theatre (I was a Theatre grad) as well as animistic faith practises, and just wanted to get out of my country and my comfort zone off the back of a long depression.

Following a couple of months of research online, reading blogs/books and watching vlogs from Westerners who'd done the same, and also talking in-person to a few alums who'd done 2+ year exchanges or moved to be with partners? Yeah, I quickly changed my mind. I'm realistically nowhere near skilled & qualified, sociable, fluent or streetwise enough to cope with that kind of culture shock or prejudice levelled my way, on top of depression and physical sickness I had back then. Have been too spoiled as a white Western woman who grew up with a European passport (alas in the wake of Brexit this freedom is constrained, but wcyd).

Still I'd love to go on holiday there, or even on a 6 month exchange or something. I think I'd enjoy it more now I'm in my 30s, with somewhat improved health and more life experience. Would not relocate there, though, I don't want that sort of stress and I'm lucky enough not to have to go down that road (for now, anyway, touch wood).
