I need an eye test!

I have an astigmatism and need glasses and contacts. Where can I get an eye test I can trust? TIA!

Ask your doctor whom he recommends, or get recs from trusted family, friends, or coworkers - do not go to 'VisionWorks', 'WalMart', 'Target' etc. This is nothing to fool around with.

There are great optometrists in Tirana, Albania, OP. I’ve also read some promising reviews of those in Vladivostok, Ouagadougou, Medicine Hat and Tierra del Fuego.

Where you are based would be vaguely useful information.

Though I don’t visit regularly, Nextdoor is often a good starting place to get recommendations for doctors and specialists. Try your local Nextdoor group.

Go to an opthamologist, OP. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors whereas optometrists are not. I wear gas permeable multifocal lenses and I had terrible problems with the two optometrists I saw. The third one told me I was a difficult case and referred me to my current opthamologist, and it's been smooth sailing since.

I have astigmatism, OP -- and I've worn glasses since I was 5. With astigmatism, it's really important to get the exact right prescription and the best lenses. I've had glasses with cheap lenses and I can't see correctly with them - you get what you pay for. The brand I get is Hoya, but I have progressive bifocals. YMMV.

I would look online for ophthalmologists in your area and check their ratings. For your first pair of glasses, I'd go to an ophthalmologist as opposed to an optometrist. You can always switch later after you have the right script.

Good luck!

Just make sure your insurance will cover ophthalmology visits if you don’t wish to pay out of pocket. You may need a referral from your PCP.

OP, you need an opthalmologist not an optometrist. If you have a primary physician, ask him/her for a referral. If not, just google for one in your area. That's what I did.

You can throw a rock and hit some kind of Eye Care center. They're in Target, in Walmart, in strip malls, in traditional malls. How have you missed them?
