Tupperware: SAD LAST DAYS

The iconic plastic kitchen storage container company has been circling the drain for quite some time.

Surprisingly, they still rely mainly on Tupperware Ladies to sell their product.

Problem is, nobody wants to be a Tupperware Lady anymore...let alone host a Tupperware party in their house, with a bunch of neighbor bitches they hate and who never return your Tupperware after they borrow it (and if they eventually do, it's missing the lid).

Is Tupperware going the way of S&H Green Stamps, Woolworth's, "diet pills" and so many other staples of 20th Century American housewifery? Or will people rediscover the old-fashioned charm of the Tupperware party?

If it goes away, will you miss it? Or will you switch to RubberMaid without missing a beat?

What say you, DL?

I shifted to glass food storage containers about 25 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 1June 1, 2023 11:21 PM

I should call Dixie Longate and ask her to present a party for us!

by Anonymousreply 2June 1, 2023 11:23 PM

R1 How often do you break something?

by Anonymousreply 3June 1, 2023 11:23 PM

I’ve been trying to track down a large beige Tupperware dish drainer forever.

by Anonymousreply 4June 1, 2023 11:24 PM

Tupperware is fabulous. Still good as new after decades. It will be sad if the company goes down.

by Anonymousreply 5June 1, 2023 11:25 PM

R1, same here. I love my Pyrex.

by Anonymousreply 6June 1, 2023 11:27 PM

They could still do internet or place in Target and Walmart?

I always wonder how that Scentsy shit is doing. I swear every frau I knew was having parties and trying to recruit for that.

by Anonymousreply 7June 1, 2023 11:34 PM

Every few months I look on eBay for Tupperware but it always seems to be lids only.

I want a few of those old Servalier storage bowls.

Same with Pyrex and/or Fiesta. I try to ignore urges to look because I know if I get one I'll end up having a hundred of them.

by Anonymousreply 8June 1, 2023 11:36 PM

So handy for those upcoming monsoon months.

There was a time that my hole was as airtight as my Tupperware.

by Anonymousreply 10June 1, 2023 11:42 PM

R3 -- only two nested, one-cup size Pyrex bowls when the fell out of my kitchen cabinet, rolled off the countertop, and broke on my tiled kitchen floor.

by Anonymousreply 11June 1, 2023 11:47 PM

Tupperware is pricey and hard to find. Home parties are just creepy.

The Dollar Tree has not as good but passable contaimers.

Tupperware is doomed.

by Anonymousreply 12June 1, 2023 11:48 PM

I'm still using my mother's Tupperware -some is pushing 50 years old! That said, I looked into the warning signs that it is no longer safe -and pretty much all of it is failing the test. I'd buy new -but not only are parties impossible to find, when you do find them the stuff they are making isn't like the old stuff. And they don't even make my number-one missed item (sugar bowl). This is definitely a case of a company not keeping up with customers' needs and wishes.

Thank god for Pyrex!

My feelings:

Tupperware is too expensive for what it is. The page at the link should give you an idea of what I mean.

The idea of Tupperware parties is so sad to me

by Anonymousreply 16June 2, 2023 12:10 AM

I want no mosey judgemental neighborhood cunts in my home.

by Anonymousreply 17June 2, 2023 12:12 AM

Wow it’s expensive!

by Anonymousreply 18June 2, 2023 12:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 20June 2, 2023 12:13 AM

Pre 2010 Tupperware is not BPA safe. It’s better to ditch it than keep it.

by Anonymousreply 21June 2, 2023 12:15 AM

Days, not weeks

by Anonymousreply 22June 2, 2023 12:16 AM

I don't want that plastic trash in my house. We use glass. Tupperware made the news not too many years ago when a drag queen was throwing fun tupperware parties and selling the shit out of it. He was the number one in California or some such accolade. But still I don't want it.

by Anonymousreply 23June 2, 2023 12:17 AM

It's too expensive. There lies the main problem.

by Anonymousreply 24June 2, 2023 12:17 AM

Does Tupperware have that much overhead? Why are their prices so high? They need a deal with Target for a kiosk in store. Expose Gen Z to your product.

by Anonymousreply 25June 2, 2023 12:19 AM

When we had to empty out mom's house several years ago I got all the Tupperware. No one else wanted it, but I always loved it. She had bought it for decades, and had all kinds of odd pieces, sets, measuring cups, and other items. I'm using some of it, the rest in storage. Hopefully some of the grandkids might want it someday, otherwise I'll sell it if I can.

by Anonymousreply 26June 2, 2023 12:21 AM

[quote]otherwise I'll sell it if I can.

Sell it to who? Nobody wants old used Tupperware R26.

I remember Brini too. Another one was this gal:

We’ve had some pieces for years. The stuff lasts, even through the dishwasher. They should be selling on a place like Amazon.

by Anonymousreply 33June 2, 2023 12:51 AM

No!!!!!! They are the best. The only plastic containers that last. I still have my mom's. All the other crap lasts for less than a year.

by Anonymousreply 34June 2, 2023 12:53 AM

The Tupperware frauen knew how to party back in the day.

I eat my beans out of a Tuppercan, thank you very much.

by Anonymousreply 37June 2, 2023 1:08 AM

R32 Yes! I see now. I think I was scrolling too fast and missed your mention of the fabulous Miss Dixie Longate. As much as I am "NO!" to more plastic, I know damn well that if I went to Dixie's show I'd buy as much as I could. I'd get swept up in her energy and wouldn't regret it. I would have a good food storage and a good story.

by Anonymousreply 38June 2, 2023 2:06 AM

My late cousin adored and obsessed constantly about Tupperware, and was even buried in it.

by Anonymousreply 39June 2, 2023 2:16 AM

I buy strictly Rubbermaid.

I had this Phranc album.

It is in Target, and on Amazon (see the Maisel Collection), so that’s not the answer. It’s a happy memory for me, my mom has a lot of it, as do her sisters. Many Cake Takers and Wonderlier bowls made the rounds at family parties. It seems to be very collectible, and probably will be more so if the company goes under. But I’ve also heard, as others here have mentioned, that the older version of the plastics are unsafe to use.

by Anonymousreply 45June 2, 2023 3:12 AM

We had a Tupperware pitcher that held oceans of orange juice from the 70s until about 2016.

(BTW, I'm available for brand deals!)

by Anonymousreply 48June 2, 2023 3:49 AM

R41- Why the OH DEAR?

by Anonymousreply 49June 2, 2023 4:29 AM

Apparently, a lot of us little homosexual boys use Mother's old Tupperware. I still have a few pieces like the little dessert bowls that are the perfect size.

by Anonymousreply 50June 2, 2023 4:39 AM

Who on earth wants to use plastic anymore? It's terrible for the environment and made from OIL!!

Do you bitches really want to store food in an oil based product?? I know boomers don't care, but Xers and younger should.

by Anonymousreply 51June 2, 2023 4:41 AM

R50 - I agree

by Anonymousreply 52June 2, 2023 4:42 AM

If you often microwave your leftovers, glass food storage containers are the best choice.

by Anonymousreply 56June 2, 2023 5:40 AM

Believe it or not Rubbermaid makes terrific storage containers. That's all I buy.

by Anonymousreply 57June 2, 2023 9:21 AM

Do you microwave in them, r57?

by Anonymousreply 58June 2, 2023 9:57 AM

God, I love Tupperware..

by Anonymousreply 59June 2, 2023 10:02 AM

R58 No.

by Anonymousreply 60June 2, 2023 10:16 AM

What's Simply Sara going to do if they go under?!

by Anonymousreply 61June 2, 2023 1:12 PM

Does anyone know if Danny Pintauro is still selling Tupperware?

by Anonymousreply 62June 2, 2023 1:28 PM

R57- You're a smart cookie 🍪

by Anonymousreply 63June 2, 2023 8:46 PM

I ONLY microwave in my Corelle bowls and plates.

Never in plastic or glass.

by Anonymousreply 64June 2, 2023 8:53 PM

I've never liked Tupperware. It always started to smell bad after awhile.

And Rubbermaid has become garbage. The last two sets I bought, the lids started to crack within a year. Never again.

by Anonymousreply 65June 2, 2023 8:57 PM

My mom had a set of the old Corningware, white with the blue cornflower. I could kick her for tossing it back in the 80s. Los of different sizes and shapes of casserole dishes with the glass tops and the old stove top percolator. That thing made the best coffee. Saw some on ebay and it's expensive as shit.

by Anonymousreply 66June 2, 2023 9:10 PM

[quote] My mom had a set of the old Corningware, white with the blue cornflower. I could kick her for tossing it back in the 80s.

Mary. Just for throwing away some Corningware?

by Anonymousreply 67June 2, 2023 9:13 PM

Rubbermaid's crummy plastic food storage containers is what convinced me to buy only glass containers.

by Anonymousreply 68June 2, 2023 9:14 PM

My moocher uncle sold Tupperware or some other knock off plasticware. He eventually quit that gig to sell Bust Must.
