Question For New York Theatre Community

Today on radio, a former theater critic said producers will open shows in July and August because New York Times critic, Jesse Green will be out-of-town. Does this sound legit?

Gosh, OP, it's really too bad we don't have any Theatre-themed threads.

Ask the cast of “New York, New York.”

Producers open shows in July and August every summer to grab the tourists, who generally don't read reviews. They are impressed with the artwork on the marquee and who's getting top billing (preferably a celebrity in the lead). So no, it doesn't matter which critic has left town.
