Abuse victims tend to view the bare minimum of human decency as grand gestures of love and kindness. In other words, they exaggerate basic shit after experiencing trauma. When their new person fucks up, as long as the fuck up doesn't hurt them as badly as their abusive ex, they overlook it. As a result, they become doormats with lowered expectations for relationships.

Biden made other news with his speech. He claimed again that he was appointed to the Naval Academy. Last year, he claimed he was appointed in 1965, even though that was the year he graduated from college, not high school. This time he claimed he was appointed along with a certain classmate, but it appears the classmate did not attend the Academy. When he was VP, Biden's story was that he was "considered" for the Academy, not appointed. It will be interesting to see how the story will change again next year.

I wouldn’t mind at all if she becomes President.
She would know damn good and well that she will not get the benefit of the “Just Wing It” slide Trump got, and she’d put in honest, hard, effective work and be secure enough to surround herself with the best help to do it.
White, Wealthy, Male privilege exists and the proof is that Trump isn’t in jail or, at least, unanimously shunned.

[quote] 50 seems like a good age. 60 works. But 80? Not too sure.
Depends on the person. Aging doesn't work like it used to. My 78-year-old dad is going sailing this weekend on a sailboat he just got done refinishing. Look at all the film directors that age still writing and directing. OTOH I know people in their early 60s who can barely function. So, yes, some people in their 80s can work just fine.

I don't plan on "packing it in" and heading to the nursing home just to sit on my ass and in my own feces at 60 unless fate steps in and takes me out. Olds can and are a vital part of life and society in their elder years; I plan on being one of them! If some want to retire from everything at the dawn of their sixth decade to sit and do nothing but reminisce, that's fine.

There are definitely plenty of people who are very old and who function extremely. Let's not be anecdotal though. The vast majority of people 80 and up have no business running for President. Perhaps Biden is one of the outliers. History will be the judge of that.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | June 3, 2023 7:19 PM |
Old people having to unretire to make ends meet is nothing to brag about.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | June 3, 2023 7:20 PM |
History will be the judge of that.
The voters will judge first, and across the political spectrum seem pretty clear on their opinion
the poll, conducted by ABC News and The Washington Post, found that 68 percent of respondents, just over two-thirds, said that Biden was too old to serve a second term as president.
The former senator and vice president was 78 years old when he was sworn in as president in January 2021, making him the oldest individual to hold the office in American history. By the end of a potential second term, he would be 86.
Concerns about Biden's age, mental fitness for office, and general well-being have dogged him since he was elected. Despite numerous stand-out achievements, including the passage of sizeable bipartisan bills and a historically strong performance for his party in last year's midterm election, his approval ratings have sagged, and the new ABC/Washington Post poll showed just 36 percent of respondents approved of his performance as president.

The sandbag struck before too.
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — The motive behind a sandbag's sudden attack on President Joe Biden became more clear today, as sources within the federal government have produced photos showing the sandbag also participated in the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
"This sandbag has been a dangerous entity for some time," said one source under the condition of anonymity. "After reviewing video footage from the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol, we discovered the sandbag among the other Trump-supporting domestic terrorists. The sandbag has evaded justice since that day, giving it the opportunity to trip President Biden at the Air Force commencement ceremony."
As officials continued to dig into the sandbag's past, further red flags were raised. "We have also found a lengthy manifesto written by the sandbag," the source said. "We will not be releasing the manifesto to the public due to the potential damage it could cause to our democracy, but it's really bad. Just trust us, we're the government."
Though unharmed in the tripping incident, President Biden has privately vowed to bring the full weight of the federal government behind his crusade to hunt down other sandbags. Additional reports seem to have indicated the sand inside the bag was white, raising concerns about ties to white supremacist organizations.
"This attack on our national security will not be tolerated," a White House press release read. "This sandbag, and others like it, are a serious and frightening threat."
At publishing time, the Biden administration had asked the intelligence community to look into possible ties the sandbag may have had to the Russian government.

Repubs know that their base has no facility for critical thinking or reasoning. They long to be part of a hive mind. So anything they say -- no matter how dumb, contradictory or implausible -- will be believed and touted by the Repub base as if it was etched in stone by Moses.
P.S. Most of the republican base believes that Moses was a general in the confederate army.
