Snippy bitch I’m sure is off in P-Town snorting coke
I’m in the Back Bay in Boston now for 24 fucking hours and I haven’t been invited to dinner by Greg yet!

OP he's a waiter at Club Café.

OP, where are you? Come over for some coke—I mean, for a drink.

He’s helping Barbara Lynch dry out in Southie—he had no choice(!)

By the way, OP, I do all my coke snorting on the Vineyard.
P-Town is strictly for crystal meth.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 23, 2023 4:06 PM |
If I were in Back Bay tomorrow (the place is closed Monday and Tuesday), I'd be most inclined to have a meal at Barbara Lynch's B&G Oysters. It's in the South End, which is one neighborhood over from Back Bay. Same zip code as Greg, though.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 23, 2023 4:23 PM |
B&G Oysters is so good!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 23, 2023 4:58 PM |

R21, what happened to us? You used to be so much fun.
You haven’t been yourself ever since Tina Turner died.
Oh, you’re missing an apostrophe. You should have written, “… this asshole’s name.”
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 24, 2023 10:04 PM |
Greg, what drink would you be offering OP? What is your favorite summer cocktail? I know it's not technically summer yet, but it's warm and summery in Philadelphia today, so my curiosity is piqued.
I myself prefer simple cocktails with only a few ingredients to (typically over-sweet) complicated concoctions but am always interested in hearing what others like.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 24, 2023 10:14 PM |
Hello, R23! I would first like to know what OP likes.
In the summer I prefer a gin martini or a Mount Gay and tonic in the summer. However lately I’ve been enjoying vodka and grapefruit juice or sometimes a tequila with fresh lime juice.
My house drink (but I seldom have this myself) is vodka, a splash of Cointreau, some cranberry juice, fresh lemon, and fresh lime.
Thanks for asking!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 24, 2023 10:26 PM |
Mary's parties always suck.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 24, 2023 10:30 PM |
Oh - I also like a Negroni now and then.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 24, 2023 10:31 PM |
Every time I think of Greg I think of high tea. And I mean that affectionately. I imagine every time someone stops by Greg's house he has high tea with all the sandwiches and scones ready and waiting.

[quote] My house drink (but I seldom have this myself) is vodka, a splash of Cointreau, some cranberry juice, fresh lemon, and fresh lime.
I have all the ingredients for this! I think I'll try it tonight.
Thanks for your reply. I like a rum and tonic in summer, too. (Zaya is my usual brand, although some people find it a little too heavy, sweet and strong of vanilla.) It's funny how rum seems to work better as a summer drink, even though it's a dark liquor, while whiskey seems more like a winter drink. To me, anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 24, 2023 10:51 PM |
"My house drink (but I seldom have this myself) is vodka, a splash of Cointreau, some cranberry juice, fresh lemon, and fresh lime."
This sounds like a Cosmopolitan. The cocktail of the 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 24, 2023 10:55 PM |
Thanks, R23/R28!
Let us know how you like that cocktail.
I agree about whiskey seeming like a winter drink. From late October until March I often have a Manhattan.
Hope you enjoy your evening!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 24, 2023 10:56 PM |
Yes, R29, I guess it’s similar to a Cosmopolitan. I’m not certain what’s in a Cosmopolitan because it’s not my type of cocktail, but I think this is similar.
I personally try to keep things simple: a dry martini, a Manhattan, JW Black on the rocks. And the drinks I mentioned above.

by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 25, 2023 11:12 AM |
R81, I appreciate your sincerity, but requiring or not requiring something is not a behavior. It might lead to a behavior.
I don’t require a lot of sleep to function = Not a behavior.
So I decide to sleep four hours a night = Behavior.
I don’t require many blankets at night = Not a behavior.
So I sleep with just a light coverlet = Behavior.

R123, you are no consequence to me. But it’s clear that you think about me a lot. Do you think about me every night? Does it make you happy?
The most offensive part of your otherwise charming post is that you think I have faux Tiffany lamps everywhere. I don’t believe in faux things, so I’m afraid I do not possess any faux Tiffany lamps.
At the Cape, most of my lamps are converted whale oil lamps made of Sandwich glass. I like that they are old; I like that the glass was manufactured in Sandwich; and I like that New Bedford, MA was once the city that lit the world, exporting vast quantities of whale oil for lamps in the early 1800s.
These lamps are also handsome and simple. Hi
If you are looking to bludgeon someone with a lamp, a whale oil lamp would be a good choice. They often have marble bases.
You say that I bore my visitors by prattling on about my things. False. I never talk about things I own — I find it boring. If someone asks, that’s another story, but I don’t volunteer the information.
You have a lot of opinions and ideas for someone with inferior intellect. How did you get this way? Do you act this challenged in other areas of your life?
Peace.

[quote] Hi, Greg, sorry about all these assholes. I'm glad to hear from you, friend, and hope you are well.
Hey, R136. Thank you. You know how feel about these type of people: more to be pitied than censured.
What's up with you?

Greg needs to suck my cock

Not much happening with me, Greg. Another boring evening. I just had an argument with my husband and before that did some grocery shopping. Good to hear from you, though!.

[quote] What are you having for dinner tonight, Greg, and what sorts of plants do you have?
Hi there! I am grilling some chicken thighs and serving them with tiny marble-sized boiled potatoes tossed with butter, parsley, and sea salt. And I'm making a Caesar salad.
What about you?

That dinner you're making sounds delicious, Greg! I'm having cheeseburgers with red wine and strawberries for dessert.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | May 26, 2023 9:58 PM |
Thanks, R137/R145!
Cheeseburgers, red wine, and strawberries sounds really good, too! Enjoy!

You're welcome, R134/R147.

It’s fun to log out, read Greg’s replies/sock puppetry, and then log back in. Half the fun with twice the effort.

I have an endless supply of sock puppets.
Come back often!

Since this seems to be a Greg AMA, I would like to ask what Greg would like to do for a living if he couldn’t do what he is currently doing professionally. Unless he retired at 56, which changes my theory a bit.
I apologize if this has been covered already…I do not keep up with all of the posts but I enjoy a little Greg now and then. I REALLY enjoy how much he triggers some of the posters - why is everyone so upset by cod and prunes?
by Anonymous | reply 151 | May 26, 2023 11:28 PM |
Did Greg go to school in “Boston” or somewhere nearby?i seem him more as a Tufts guy, or maybe Simmons or Stonehill.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | May 26, 2023 11:32 PM |
Hello, Mr. Tits.
Just what is your theory?

You and I have that in common. It is great fun to touch so many little nerves, just by being a nice guy.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | May 26, 2023 11:40 PM |
I've said it before and will say it again but I thoroughly enjoy threads with Greg. I can't understand why some people are so triggered. He has never been anything but a nice guy.

Mostly true. There was that time he made fun of my turquoise Fiestaware.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | May 27, 2023 12:21 AM |
Come on, R159. Turquoise Fiestaware? You can’t bait me like that.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | May 27, 2023 12:27 AM |
First, Greg, know that I have been one of your biggest supporters since you appeared last year (or at least, since I noticed you last year). Also, I spent most of the '80s catering, and I'm familiar with nearly all the food you make. And I love it. I have no idea why people pick on you. It makes no sense to me.
But then, I like Tim O'Tay, and others whom the DL at large appear to wish to destroy. It took me a while, but eventually I figured out that people come here to hate. #1 purpose: to Datalounge is to hate.
You know what I hate? White dishes. I just have never liked them. My first set of adult dishes were clear—something from Italy. I love Italian food more than any other, always have, so the dishes seemed like a no-brainer. But they were kind of boring.
So I bought some from Metlox Colorstax. Fiesta had yet to return to the market (Bloomingdale's brought them back in 1986). And then some Apilco from Williams-Sonoma. Had to have SOME white dishes, right? But they were boring. And then Fiesta came back, and in the '90s, I bought a set in Turquoise.
[bold]It turns out more foods look good on turquoise than on any color but white. Very complimentary with red, orange, green, brown.[/bold] I don't like the other Fiesta colors as much. Maybe dark blue. Corollary to all of this: I've never wanted to be [italic]elegante[/italic], so Fiesta and Colorstax always suited me stylewise, too.
Anyway, that's my dish story. You've shared so much with us. I thought I should share a little with you.
Oh, postscript: if I had it to do over, I would purchase a set of Vecchio Ginori porcelain dinnerware. It really is beautiful. And I love the way it feels in my hand.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | May 27, 2023 12:49 AM |
I like Greg more now that I know he's 56.
Incidentally, while back there to see my pahtnuh on the Noth Shawr in April, I'd wanted to visit "The City" to see Back Bay, the South End, and supposedly crunchy granola, Lezbie Jamaica Plain, but once again, didn't have time, as we were too busy mating like elder weasels and eating at Kowloon in Saugus (a total campfest with grotesquely inauthentic "Oriental" cuisine and extra large, girly cocktails) and Nightshade Noodle Bar ($ublime) in beautiful, exclusive, tony downtown Lynn.
Greg, aside from being invited to dinner by you, what does one do in Back Bay as a tourist? Any highlights to mention? Will be returning in October to permanently extract my man from the Bay State. We won't be dinning at any of alcoholic tyrant Barbara Lynch's overpriced establishments.

R162, Back Bay is great for tourists. I will create an itinerary for you s as I’d the mister. How many days will you be there?
Why do you like me more now that you know I’m 56?
Kowloon on Route One! So funny. I haven’t been there in years.

“what does one do in Back Bay as a tourist?”
There’s a swan boat—if you’re under 10 years old. Does that count?
by Anonymous | reply 168 | May 27, 2023 5:51 PM |
Heh r168, when we moved back to Boston (where I had grown up) in the 90s, I insisted to my now-husband that we HAD to go on the swan boats, which I remembered with great fondness. Oh my goodness, five minutes in I was ready to cut a bitch, any bitch, to escape the tedium.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | May 27, 2023 6:18 PM |
The swan boats are for children.

@Greg02116, Will be in the Salem arear (as my pahtnuh calls it - he adds the intrusive 'R') for two weeks in October liquidating his MASSetts before moving him back to CA for married, domestic bliss. Have seen every square inch of the North Shore/Essex county, VT, NH, PTown, and S. Maine. Plan to spend two days for Acadia NP for leaf peeping, a day trip to see the mansions of Newport, RI, and maybe a tacky bus trip to Foxwoods so I can finally say I've been to Connecticut. Also one or two days in Boston proper. Have seen parts of Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, but not Back Bay, The Fenway, or the South End. Any suggestions for seeing those neighborhoods? Not extremely expensive restaurants?
It will be weird not having to fly back there 3-4 times a year and him flying out here 4-5 times a year. We've been doing this for 4.5 years. Am embarrassed not to have seen much of Boston. I guess it's small, but would like to see all the nooks and crannies.

r180, I'll post whatever I want to post -- and that's not up to you. Have been here since 1998. Don't try to tell me "where it's at on DL". So, fuck off, go die in a grease fire, and get off my lawn.
