Ray Stevenson is DEAD to me

[quote]British actor Ray Stevenson died at Rizzoli hospital on Ischia. He was 58 years old and had been on the island for a few days to shoot the film "Cassino a Ischia", directed by Frank Ciota. Stevenson accused an illness that required hospitalization in the medical facility. Subsequently the actor's conditions, already very serious at the time of hospitalization, worsened until his death.

[quote]accused an illness

Acquired, presumably. Excuse the shitty automatic translation, I was in a rush.

by Anonymousreply 1May 22, 2023 4:12 PM

Sad. I remember him from "Rome." HBO's first attempt at a GoT-style juggernaut.

by Anonymousreply 2May 22, 2023 4:15 PM

Yeah, he was great in Rome.

He was so hot and handsome. Even as a daddy bear.

by Anonymousreply 4May 22, 2023 4:19 PM

Yes, agree, hot and manly.

by Anonymousreply 5May 22, 2023 4:48 PM

No confirmations yet from non-Italian sources.

by Anonymousreply 6May 22, 2023 4:54 PM

It seems it's currently handled as a death hoax. We'll have to wait for respectable outlets to report on it.

by Anonymousreply 7May 22, 2023 4:55 PM

Wikipedia has already been updated, it's offish.

by Anonymousreply 8May 22, 2023 4:55 PM

La Reppublica is literally the Italian The New York Times, but okay.

by Anonymousreply 9May 22, 2023 4:57 PM

*Repubblica, even.

by Anonymousreply 10May 22, 2023 4:58 PM

He was hot in his season of Dexter

And gay. Dexter should’ve tapped that.

by Anonymousreply 11May 22, 2023 5:03 PM

He was even hotter when he was younger opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones in a BBC adaptation of Hardy's THE RETURN OF THE NATIVE. Lady Olivier played his mama.

by Anonymousreply 12May 22, 2023 5:09 PM

Variety confirms the death.

It's hard to believe he was just 58. He will always be remembered for his '70s chart topper "Everything Is Beautiful." We will be talking to his son McLean shortly, who had a big hit of his own with "American Pie." Talented, talented family.

by Anonymousreply 14May 22, 2023 5:33 PM

[quote] Variety confirms the death.

Ah, well... He had a hot ass, but he couldn't live forever!

by Anonymousreply 15May 22, 2023 5:35 PM

[quote] He was even hotter when he was younger opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones in a BBC adaptation of Hardy's THE RETURN OF THE NATIVE. Lady Olivier played his mama.

I've always had great chemistry with men who are MUCH older than me.

by Anonymousreply 16May 22, 2023 5:51 PM

I jacked off to him in Rome.

And he was even hotter now (I love handsome daddy types).

by Anonymousreply 17May 22, 2023 6:32 PM

[quote] La Reppublica is literally the Italian The New York Times, but okay.

No, it literally isn’t.

by Anonymousreply 18May 22, 2023 7:40 PM

Rome was my jam. All the guys were gorgeous, I was partial to James Purefoy. My sister crushed on Pullo and met RS outside a club. Said he was nice. He’s gone too soon.

by Anonymousreply 19May 22, 2023 9:17 PM

He was filming a movie and died? WTF? What illness could be "acquired" that resulted in death - covid?

Now, I'm hoping that his character is killed off by the end of the Ahsoka series this summer because it will be tough if they have to figure out somehow how to work around his death in future shows.

by Anonymousreply 20May 22, 2023 9:26 PM

No wife or survivors listed in that Variety obit. Hmmmmm.......

by Anonymousreply 21May 22, 2023 11:16 PM

Will always remember him in Rome

by Anonymousreply 22May 22, 2023 11:18 PM

Loved him in ROME (so hot!) but it seems like his resume is just filled with Marvel-type crap after that. No wonder I haven't seen him in anything since.

And I guess I sure won't now.

by Anonymousreply 23May 22, 2023 11:18 PM

It’s odd because I read this first in the Daily Mail and they barely mentioned Rome. Yet, in the comment section most were fans of his from Rome. I will always be better how fast they canceled that show.

by Anonymousreply 24May 22, 2023 11:21 PM

I just rewatched Rome from beginning to end, both seasons. He was great and one of my favorites. Sad news.

by Anonymousreply 25May 22, 2023 11:23 PM

Come again, r24?

by Anonymousreply 26May 22, 2023 11:23 PM

R9 "literally"

by Anonymousreply 27May 22, 2023 11:25 PM

That was a rough 58 - must have been sick for a while, or maybe a hard drinker.

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2023 11:26 PM

Really good character actor

by Anonymousreply 29May 22, 2023 11:26 PM

Typo city, R26. I meant to say when I read about his death in the Daily Mail, they barely mentioned his role in Rome. Yet, most of the comments were about his work on that show. I was *bitter* that they canceled Rome when they did.

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2023 11:29 PM

Like I know who the hell he is

by Anonymousreply 31May 22, 2023 11:29 PM

R31 He had a song called The Streak in the 70s

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2023 11:32 PM

He had two (or three) sons with Italian anthropologist Elisabetta Caraccia whom he had met while filming Rome.

by Anonymousreply 33May 23, 2023 12:42 AM

Why were his eyelids so hooded? I barely recognized him.

by Anonymousreply 34May 23, 2023 1:28 AM

He will forever be my Titus . I thought myself too old to have a celebrity crush, but I had it bad for him. He was a hard 58 ,but I still love him.

by Anonymousreply 35May 23, 2023 2:34 AM

Sandwiched in between Thomas Jane and Jon Bernthal, he was a sexy Punisher.

by Anonymousreply 40May 23, 2023 3:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 41May 23, 2023 3:27 AM

R41 You seem literally challenged.

by Anonymousreply 42May 23, 2023 3:30 AM

Why no cause of death? 58 is YOUNG.

by Anonymousreply 43May 23, 2023 7:15 AM

He was so beautiful in Rome.

by Anonymousreply 44May 23, 2023 7:18 AM

A large penis is always welcome.

by Anonymousreply 45May 23, 2023 7:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 46May 23, 2023 8:04 AM

[quote]Sad. I remember him from "Rome." HBO's first attempt at a GoT-style juggernaut.

Ray Stevenson & Kevin McKidd made a good duo in "Rome". The show had some good episodes, although I thought the quality of its writing paled in comparison to "I, Claudius".

by Anonymousreply 47May 23, 2023 8:32 AM

Reminds me of Alec Baldwin

by Anonymousreply 48May 23, 2023 8:34 AM

R37, I think Ray briefly showed his cock in one of the sex scenes on "Rome".

R30, yeah, it's too bad that Season 2 of "Rome" had to be rushed to a conclusion before it was cancelled. I think the reason given at the time was the out of control huge budget, yes?

R49, from what I remember it was jointly produced by HBO, BBC and an Italian broadcaster. It was very expensive to produce and the Italian company, and maybe the BBC as well, dropped out of funding S2. So HBO produced the last season and announced it would end. I remember reading they regretted canceling it because between the seasons it exploded in popularity. It became one of HBO’s classics.

by Anonymousreply 52May 23, 2023 10:50 AM

It never stops running around the world. Like Battlestar Galactica it's made a fortune since.

by Anonymousreply 53May 23, 2023 11:46 AM

He's covered in the blood of his fatally miscarrying wife in those nude scenes.

by Anonymousreply 54May 23, 2023 12:03 PM

I loved "The Streak."

by Anonymousreply 55May 23, 2023 12:20 PM

R30- As far as I’m concerned Rome was the last good show on HBO. I wish they had 10 seasons of Rome. I never got into game of thrones.

by Anonymousreply 56May 23, 2023 12:28 PM

R49- I read once that the whole set for Rome had burned down and it was far too expensive to rebuild and that was the reason that they only had two seasons of the show.

by Anonymousreply 57May 23, 2023 12:29 PM

But Parker is still safe? Parker must be protected at all costs!

by Anonymousreply 58May 23, 2023 12:45 PM

Oh, he was too young.. I adored Pullo but I had never seen him in anything else. He did look a rough 58- looks like a heavy drinker. RIP

by Anonymousreply 59May 23, 2023 12:50 PM

[quote]It's hard to believe he was just 58.

R14 He would have turned 59 on May 25. He died four days before his birthday.

by Anonymousreply 60May 23, 2023 1:03 PM

I guess those photos explain why Ray never did more nude scenes.

by Anonymousreply 61May 23, 2023 1:15 PM

This is an outrage. If a guy is going to show cock on a cable TV show, he should show it long enough and he should be well lit enough that we get a good look.

by Anonymousreply 62May 23, 2023 1:25 PM

Next up after the break we have the great Ray Stevenson, who wrote the theme song to “Ghostbusters.”

by Anonymousreply 63May 23, 2023 1:26 PM

I've just started Rome, so what I really remember Ray for is Dexter, my absolute favorite show at the time. I give him full credit for turning around the show and giving it this great renaissance, if you will, in season 7.

Of course it would be completely squandered in season 8.

by Anonymousreply 64May 23, 2023 2:34 PM

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about the folksinger from 1970 who wrote the cheesy pop hit "Everything Is Beautiful". He is still walking among us at 84.

by Anonymousreply 65May 23, 2023 3:03 PM

It sucks that he died just 4 days before his birthday.

by Anonymousreply 66May 24, 2023 7:18 AM

No word on cause of death which makes me think it’s drugs. They can see a blood clot, a blocked artery, a hemorrhage during autopsy. But toxicology takes months sometimes. Plus I think they withhold the drug death info until a lon*BTK e after the death so people aren’t paying attention anymore

by Anonymousreply 67June 22, 2023 3:05 PM

I loved his 1974 hit 'The Streak."

by Anonymousreply 68June 22, 2023 3:08 PM

R65 scan-reading the title as I scrolled, I thought it was Ray Winstone, and was about to get all laudatory about 'Scum'.
